Christian Friedel ist ein Schauspieler und Musiker, wohnhaft in Dresden. Dieses Jahr hat er in Hollywood miterlebt, wie der Film mit 2 Oscars ausgezeichnet wurde, in dem er die Hauptrolle gespielt hat - in “The Zone Of Interest”. Über diese Erfahrung spricht er im aktuellen Podcast: “Ja das kann man kaum beschreiben. Es war für uns alle, die an dem Film mitgearbeitet haben, eigentlich ein großes Finale und das ist dann auch noch mit zwei Oscars gekrönt wurde. Das ist natürlich der absolute Oberhammer und ja also es war ein rauschendes Fest. Es war auch toll, auch Musiker und Musikerinnen dort zu treffen. Dieser Rausch, der stattfindet, dass man eben ganz viele Menschen trifft und sieht, ob man nun mit denen spricht oder nicht, die man eigentlich, ja ich möchte sagen, vergöttert, die Inspirationen sind. Ich hab mich zum Beispiel mit dem Bruder von Billie Eilish unterhalten können, was ich total spannend fand, weil zum Beispiel ihr zweites Album mir unglaublich viel Kraft gegeben hat als wir den Film gedreht haben. Das kam nämlich gerade raus, als wir in Auschwitz gedreht haben. Um auf andere Gedanken zu kommen, hab ich immer das Album von Billie Eilish gehört. Musik hilft extrem und ja und diese Menschen dann da zu sehen, mit denen zusammen zu feiern und dann dass der Film derartig wahrgenommen wird, das hat uns alle extrem gefreut. Ich muss auch sagen, ich brauche diesen Sommer, glaube ich, erst mal, um auch mal runterzukommen, um mal auch zu realisieren, was eigentlich alles passiert ist, weil es war ganz schön viel in den letzten Monaten.” Ausserdem spricht Christian Friedel bei “Axel Trifft” über seine Band “Woods Of Birnam” und das Musikfestival, dass sie jeden Sommer in Dresden veranstalten: “Come Into The Woods”, und welche Rolle der Schauspielkollege Lars Eidinger dort musikalisch spielt.

Ich bin gerade in der Produktion, habe jetzt das nächste Album abgeschlossen. Das war schon schwieriger, weil plötzlich viel mehr Optionen waren. Man konnte mit viel mehr Leuten zusammenarbeiten. Man wurde nach Los Angeles eingeladen. Man hat plötzlich bei Max Martin im Studio gesessen und hat da Songs geschrieben und einfach viel mehr Optionen gehabt. Und da war's schon schwer, dann wieder sich auf sich selber zu besinnen. Auf sein Bauchgefühl zu: okay, was hat mich überhaupt hierher gebracht. Das sollte man dann auch nicht aus dem Fokus verlieren.”

Some extra fun this month as we explore the rest of what we haven't seen amongst the 2024 BEST PICTURE OSCAR NOMINATIONS. Well, we're skipping the fun for this particular week because we finally get to the disturbing and unsettling Jonathan Glazer film about the Holocaust that centers specifically on its perpetrators. Perpetrators with wives and children and pets. Husbands who seek to rise within the mundane bureaucracy of an ethnostate that administers horror just on the other side of a wall. You can't see it but you can hear it. Thank god only the characters in the film could smell it but too many seemed rather used to it. Glazer said his new film, “THE ZONE OF INTEREST” starring Christian Friedel & Sandra Hüller, is about the present. Where we find ourselves in the present, drifting along the wake of the holocaust's legacy, leaves us with plenty to ponder and a surprising amount to observe. The past isn't so far gone. “The Zone Of Interest” stand bei uns ganz oben auf der Wunschliste des Jahres 2024. Schon im Vorfeld hat Jonathan Glazer mit seinem Holocaust-Film rund um Rudolf Höß, den Lagerkommandanten des KZ Auschwitz, jede Menge Lob einheimsen können und kürzlich wurde der Film auch noch mit zwei Oscars in den Kategorien “Bester internationaler Film” und “Bester Ton” ausgezeichnet. Wir wussten vorher eigentlich nur, dass die Idee von “The Zone Of Interest” im Grunde Big Brother bei Familie Höß ist. Aber hält #thezoneofinterest am Ende auch, was er verspricht? Schließlich triggert der Film mit Sandra Hüller und Christian Friedel in den Hauptrollen mit Schlagworten und Themen wie Holocaust, KZ und Auschwitz. Da ist Pietät angebracht, wenn man sich nicht komplett in die Nesseln setzen will. Am Sonntag wurde der Film "The Zone Of Interest" mit zwei Oscars ausgezeichnet. Mit vor Ort bei der Verleihung in Hollywood: Hauptdarsteller Christian Friedel. Kaum zurück aus Los Angeles berichtet er von einem der verrücktesten Tage in seiner bisherigen Karriere. Wie er auf der Party nach den Oscars Harrison Ford traf und ihm Emma Stone, selbst mit dem Oscar an dem Tag ausgezeichnet, Komplimente gemacht hat. Dass das "Nazi-Drama" "The Zone Of Interest" ein bedrückendes Meisterwerk ist sagen Kritiker schon seit der Premiere bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes 2023. Doch ein halbes Jahr später, und sehr viele Auszeichnungen später, ist der Film nun endlich auch in den deutschen Kinos angekommen und sorgt für ordentlich Diskussionen. Wie es für Hauptdarsteller Christian Friedel war die Rolle des KZ Auschwitz-Kommandanten Rudolf Höß zu spielen und wie besonders die Dreharbeiten am Original-Schauplatz waren berichtet er uns genauso, wie die Dreharbeiten zur dritten "The White Lotus" Staffel für ihn in Thailand laufen. Christian hat sich, ohne viel Schlaf, für euch und uns Zeit genommen und an der Stelle: Dankeschön

Was mir am stärksten aufgefallen ist in Jonathan Glazers THE ZONE OF INTEREST: Die Illusion, dass wir gar kein inzeniertes Bild sehen, die Illusion, das das Gezeigte „real“, bzw. „original“ ist. Besonders im ersten Drittel des Films vermitteln die Farben und Perspektiven den Eindruck, als würden wir Material sehen, dass 1943 vor Ort gedreht wurde. Diese Form der visuellen Inszenierung verstärkt enorm die Aussage des Films: Dass die Integration massenvernichtender Menschenverachtung in den eigenen Alltag diese Verbrechen erst ermöglicht. Die sonnige Gartenidylle, die Rudolf Höß‘ Ehefrau Hedwig auf der Außenseite des Vernichtungslagers Auschwitz, ist ein ebenso paradiesischer wie perverser Selbstbetrug – immer wieder hörbar durch das ständige, dunkle Brummen der Ringöfen und sichtbar durch Feuer und Rauch aus den Schornsteinen.Es ist eine gute Entscheidung von Jonathan Glazer, dass wir als Zuschauer:innen die eigentlichen Verbrechen nicht sehen, denn so bleibt der Fokus ganz auf den Menschen, die die Verbrechen der Täter mittragen, befürworten und unterstützen. Im Podcast spreche ich mit Heidi und mit Gisela, deren Perspektive als Kriegskind (Jahrgang 1937) besonders interessant ist. Wir diskutieren die pathosfreie Darstellung der Nazis, den „Wannseekonferenz-Moment“, Sandra Hüllers großartige und furchterregende Darstellung der Hedwig Höß, über dunkelgraue Leinwände, den ungewöhnlichen Score und über unsere eigene Erinnerungen an den Besuch der Gedenkstätte in Auschwitz.

Mit "The Zone Of Interest" nähert sich Ausnahmeregisseur Jonathan Glazer ("Under The Skin") der KZ-Thematik auf ganz eigene Weise, in dem er die Schrecken des Holocaust in den vermeintlich banalen Familienalltag eines der größten Menschenvernichters der Geschichte einbettet. Christian Friedel, geboren in Magdeburg, ist ein vielseitiger deutscher Schauspieler, Musiker und Regisseur, der sowohl auf der Bühne als auch auf der Leinwand Erfolge feiert. Ab dem 29. Februar wird er im Film "the Zone of Interest" in den deutschen Kinos zu sehen sein. Friedel spielt hier einen Auschwitz-Kommandanten namens Rudolf Höß. Er und seine Ehefrau Hedwig realisieren ihre Vorstellung eines Traumlebens mit einer kinderreichen Familie, Haus und großem Garten, während die Schreie und Gewehrschüsse des benachbarten Konzentrationslagers dem Alltag untermalen. Dieser künstlerische und gleichzeitig düstere Blick auf die Verbrechen des zweiten Weltkriegs hat auf verschiedenen Film-Festivals beeindrucken und Preise abräumen können. Auch für die diesjährigen Oscars ist der Film in verschiedenen Kategorien nominiert, unter anderem in der Rubrik "bester Film". Christian Friedel, ausgebildet an der Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in München, machte sich als Schauspieler am Bayerischen Staatsschauspiel und den Münchner Kammerspielen einen Namen, bevor er von 2006 bis 2009 am Schauspiel Hannover tätig war. Seit 2009 ist er vor allem mit dem Staatsschauspiel Dresden verbunden, wo er in Hauptrollen wie in "Don Carlos" glänzte und für seine Leistungen mit dem Deutschen Theaterpreis DER FAUST ausgezeichnet wurde. Sein filmischer Durchbruch gelang ihm 2009 mit "Das weiße Band". Weitere markante Rollen hatte er in "Elser" und "The Zone of Interest". Neben der Schauspielerei ist Friedel auch als Musiker mit seiner Band Woods of Birnam und als Regisseur aktiv, wobei er unter anderem "Macbeth" inszenierte. 2024 wird er für seine künstlerischen Leistungen mit dem Kunstpreis der Landeshauptstadt Dresden geehrt. Christian Friedel hat sich als ein Künstler etabliert, der in verschiedenen Disziplinen zu Hause ist und sowohl national als auch international Anerkennung findet.

Some extra fun this month as we explore the rest of what we haven't seen amongst the 2024 BEST PICTURE OSCAR NOMINATIONS. Well, we're skipping the fun for this particular week because we finally get to the disturbing and unsettling Jonathan Glazer film about the Holocaust that centers specifically on its perpetrators. Perpetrators with wives and children and pets. Husbands who seek to rise within the mundane bureaucracy of an ethnostate that administers horror just on the other side of a wall. You can't see it but you can hear it. Thank god only the characters in the film could smell it but too many seemed rather used to it. Glazer said his new film, “THE ZONE OF INTEREST” starring Christian Friedel & Sandra Hüller, is about the present. It was a co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom and Poland. It stars Christian Friedel as the German Nazi commandant Rudolf Höss, who strives to build a dream life with his wife, Hedwig (Sandra Hüller), in a new home next to the German Auschwitz concentration camp. Pred gledalca kot na posebno moralno tehtnico postavi Rudolfa in Hedwig ter neizgovorjeno vprašanje, kdo je hujši – on, ki vsak dan razmišlja, kako povečati število umorjenih taboriščnikov, ali ona, ki nikakor ne želi zapustiti svojega idiličnega doma na na novo osvojenih nemških teritorijih, v Oświęcimu. Interesno območje temelji na romanu Martina Amisa, vendar je šel Jonathan Glazer s svojo ustvarjalno ekipo korak naprej in v neverjetne detajle raziskal življenje svojega protagonista ter zgodovinsko dobo. Hkrati se delo zaveda svojih predhodnikov v smislu, da na ravni teorije vključuje vse znamenite teze o holokavstu, kot so jih zapisali Hannah Arendt, Theodor Adorno in drugi, in vendar mu uspe odpreti neverjetne nove prostore za sociološke, psihološke in tudi estetske analize. Aktualnost tega celovečerca za današnji čas se kaže na različnih ravneh. Seveda gre v prvi vrsti za nevarnost ideološke zaslepljenosti in sledenja dogmam, ki lahko pripeljejo do barbarskega zla. Družina Höss je sicer zanimiva in posebna, v resnici pa grozljiva prav zato, ker je povsem neizstopajoč del širšega sistema. Film Interesno območje nenazadnje s srhljivo natančnostjo analizira tudi menedžerski um – Rudolf Höss vodi Auschwitz oziroma po poklicnem napredovanju tudi širši sistem nemških koncentracijskih taborišč kot uspešno korporacijo. Wladimir Kaminer im BB RADIO Mitternachtstalk Wladimir Kaminer, der russisch-deutsche Schriftsteller, Kolumnist und Diskjockey, hat mit seiner unverkennbaren Erzählweise schon so viele von uns verzaubert.
