No cabe duda que la seguridad ha sido una de las grandes preocupaciones para vecinos y vecinas, tanto dentro de nuestra comuna como a lo largo del país. Y es que se trata de una problemática que también tiene una causalidad muy ligada a lo social. Así, el Programa LAZOS, iniciativa impulsada por el Ministerio del Interior y Seguridad Pública junto a la Subsecretaría de Prevención del Delito, enfoca su trabajo en la prevención temprana en niños, niñas y adolescentes (NNA) para reducir factores de riesgo que causen comportamiento delictivo. Este nuevo componente se suma al Equipo de Detección Temprana (EDT), que ya se encuentra operando en la comuna, y que tiene por objetivo realizar una evaluación y derivación de casos. El componente de Parentalidad Positiva, por su parte, busca realizar intervenciones tempranas para desarrollar o fortalecer habilidades parentales en cuidadores de NNA con niveles de intervención bajos y medios. Daniela Cafena, coordinadora del componente de Parentalidad Positiva, indica que existen “tres formas de atención. Una, es a través de charlas informativas sobre crianza. Dos, es a través de una intervención individual de cuatro sesiones para problemas de baja complejidad. Y la tercera forma de intervención es a través de sesiones grupales. Ahí son ocho sesiones en las cuales se trabajan casos de mucha más complejidad y de forma grupal”. En la actividad también estuvo presente Patricia Berger, coordinadora nacional de Parentalidad Positiva del Programa LAZOS de la Subsecretaría de Prevención del Delito, quien destacó la importancia que tiene el programa, indicando que “estamos más focalizados en poder apoyar a las familias de manera preventiva antes de que los chiquillos y chiquillas ya tengan factores de riesgo o conductas más graves”. Cabe destacar, que esta iniciativa se enmarca dentro del Plan Comunal de Seguridad Pública como una alternativa para disminuir los factores de riesgo sociodelictual en niños, niñas y adolescentes entre 10 a 17 años. Los buenos resultados de este programa durante el 2023 han permitido que hoy se inaugure el componente de Parentalidad Positiva. El programa tiene presencia en 61 comunas del país, trabajando colaborativamente con los municipios, siendo un servicio que tiene acceso gratuito para la comunidad. We often hear of the plight of the polar bear or how monarch butterflies are dwindling. These changes are important, but just a small part of what's happening with nature in America. Imagine if we had a full picture of nature in our nation—and what nature provides to our lives. And imagine if that picture was at the center of governmental decision-making. Sound utopian? Well, perhaps not. The first ever National Nature Assessment (NNA) is currently underway to better understand how nature is faring in the United States and what it means to all our lives. That's the focus of our discussion in Season 5, Episode 3, of the Engineering With Nature® Podcast. Host Sarah Thorne and Todd Bridges, National Lead of the EWN Program, are pleased to welcome back Heather Tallis, the Assistant Director for Biodiversity and Conservation Sciences in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Heather joined us in Season 5, Episode 2 to talk about her role in the development of Opportunities to Accelerate Nature Based Solutions. Heather is also the Acting Director for the National Nature Assessment with the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), the subject of this episode. President Biden's Executive Order 14072, Strengthening the Nation's Forests, Communities and Local Economies, establishes a number of objectives related to nature-based solutions and EWN. One of the many elements of that Executive Order is a commitment to conduct a National Nature Assessment. Heather's role as the Acting Director of the NNA is to work with the representatives of the 13 agencies that comprise the USGCRP to produce an assessment that gives a full picture of the state of nature in the United States and how nature matters to people's lives. The assessment of the lands, waters, and wildlife across the nation will explore questions such as: What does nature mean to our economy? How is nature interacting with our physical and mental health? And, what do changes in nature mean for our national security and for environmental justice? Todd and his colleague Kyle McKay are representing the Department of Defense on the Federal Steering Committee. As Todd notes, “The Department of Defense has about 5,000 installations or so across the country and around the world that occupy 25 million acres of land and water—that's a lot of nature. DoD has many programs and makes many investments in natural resource conservation and is now focused on how nature-based solutions can be deployed to enable comprehensive resilience at their facilities and in the surrounding communities.” Developing the NNA is a big task that will take place over several years and starts with listening. Heather stresses the importance of the process being open, inclusive, and actionable. An open public comment period is currently underway to gather input from individuals and organizations about what nature means to them. As Heather says, “We truly want to hear from everyone as much as possible. We know there are many different ways to experience nature. Everyone comes from a different way of thinking about nature, different perspectives, and we'd like to hear them all.” Heather encourages people to sign up for USGCRP's newsletter for updates and to provide input to the NNA. Pred dvema letoma se me je močno dotaknilo pričevanje Izeta Veladžića, objavljeno v reviji Ognjišče. Izet je potomec muslimanskih priseljencev iz Bosne. Kot bolan otrok se je z družino preselil na slovensko obalo. Doma niso bili verni, se je pa kot najstnik srečal s krščanstvom in postal binkoštnik. Komaj petnajstletnega ga je oče zato vrgel iz hiše. Postal je binkoštni pastor, a iskal je še naprej. Kristus mu ni dal miru in tako je pristal v Katoliški cerkvi. Za ceno velikih žrtev seveda. A iskrenega iskanja ni brez žrtve. To velja za Izeta in to velja za modre z Vzhoda, ki se jih danes spominjamo. Tvegali so dolgo in naporno pot, neudobje, stroške, a vse to njihovega iskanja ni ustavilo. Človek je iskalec smisla. Njegovo srce je nemirno, dokler se ne spočije v Bogu. Kako pa naj mi iščemo Boga?nZgodba govori, da so sveti trije kralji prišli počastit Jezusa iz različnih krajev sveta. Eden je bil bel, drugi rumen, tretji pa črn. Kralji so sledili zvezdi, ki jih je vodila. Toda neke noči se je izgubila. Zastonj so skrbno zrli v nebo: čudovita zvezda, ki jih je vodila, je izginila.nKralja bele in rumene polti, ki sta bila učena in izvedena v matematiki in zvezdoslovju, sta takoj začela s palicami risati črte in kroge v puščavski pesek. Potem sta začela računati in sestavljati enačbe, ki so postajale čedalje bolj zapletene. Držala sta se stran od črnega kralja. Bil je učen, toda onadva sta menila, da ni imel pojma o pravi znanosti.nČrni kralj pa je izkoristil nepričakovani postanek. Kamele so bile utrujene in žejne. »Moramo misliti tudi na uboge živali,« si je dejal.nVzel je vedro in šel po vodo k vodnjaku v bližnjo vas. Vrnil se je in položil posodo prvi kameli. Medtem ko je bilo vedro pod kameljim gobcem, je zagledal zvezdo. Zrcalila se je v vodi vedra. Tako so sveti trije kralji spet našli pot v Betlehem.nČrnega kralja je ljubezen do vseh stvari, tudi do živali, ki so bile potrebne pomoči, pripeljala do zvezde, ki je kazala pot do novorojenega Kristusa. Tudi nas pomoč potrebnim vodi h Kristusu. Kakor svete tri kralje.nNa neki samostanski cerkvi so v božičnem času namestili napis: Modri ga še vedno iščejo. Ko je prišel mimo neki mož, se je jezil na napis, češ da ni resničen, saj so modri z Vzhoda že našli Novorojenega. Župnik pa mu je razložil, da napis lahko razume tudi tako: Modri možje in modre žene tudi danes iščejo Kristusa. Bodimo modri in iščimo Kristusa tako, da bomo priskočili na pomoč potrebnim.nn

On this 110th episode of "E&P Reports," Publisher and Host Mike Blinder sat down with the National Newspapers Association's (NNA) chair, Brett Wesner, and E&P contributing editor Gretchen Peck to talk about the urgency for advocacy for the Local Journalism Sustainability Act (LJSA). On Friday afternoon, November 5th, word had come that at least part of the LJSA — payroll tax credits for newsrooms — remained in the Build Back Better Reconciliation bill being bandied about in Congress. It's legislation that the NAA, America's Newspapers, Report for America and other industry associations have tenaciously lobbied for in Washington, DC, and perhaps to everyone's surprise, got traction and even a little bipartisan for it. Community newspapers serve an obvious role that most people inherently understand. Their local newspaper — whether they read it in print or online — is the very best source of local information about what's happening in the community around them and why it should matter to them. A local newspaper fulfills other roles that may be less overt but are nonetheless integral to the health and prosperity of the community. “If we don't exist, no one's there, because you're not going to get major metros covering small towns anymore,” Brett Wesner warned. Wesner is both the chair of the NNA and the CEO of Wesner Publications, a community newspaper publisher based in Cordell, Oklahoma. “When you don't have a newspaper, the bond rates increase,” Wesner continued. “If there is nobody guarding the chicken house, the fox has free rein. We do play an important role in the business of communities and also in terms of creating community. I mean, in these small towns, if you don't have a binding element of some kind, you really lose that sense that we're all in this together.” The LJSA's future remained uncertain as E&P Reports wrapped on Friday afternoon. Nothing's a done deal until it reaches the President's signing desk. While the associations and their lobbyists continue to implore Congress to adopt the LJSA, local newspapers around the country might use the coming week to rally their newsrooms and their readers, reminding them, we're all in this together.

Where do you envision the NNA in the next two to five years? To a large size where we can start to advocate for our patients at a policy level. So that we can say, we have 200-300 physicians. You're talking about developing clout and influence. That's an accurate way to assess that. In creating NNA, part of what we're saying is that we can join together and have a much, much louder voice by acting as one.

【NNAアジア経済ニュース】シンガポール人材開発省は、新型コロナウイルスの感染防止ルールに違反し、南部沖ラザラス島を観光していた12人のうち、英国人４人の就労ビザを剝奪しました。シンガポールでの就労を恒久的に禁止する処分も下したそうです。 12人のグループは2020年８月、当時は６人以上が不要不急の目的で自宅外で集まることが禁止されていたにもかかわらず、ラザラス島を訪れていました。 シンガポールの裁判所は２月24日、英国人４人に対し、それぞれ3,000Ｓドル（約24万円）の罰金刑を科しました。人材開発省は、専門職向け就労ビザ（エンプロイメント・パス＝ＥＰ）の剝奪と就労禁止を言い渡しました。 ＮＮＡが人材開発省に確認したところ、当時は12人のうち９人がＥＰ保有者、１人が家族ビザ（ＤＰ）の保有者でした。残る２人はシンガポール人と永住権（ＰＲ）保持者です。 ＥＰ保有者の残る５人とＤＰ保有者１人については、昨年のうちに恒久的な就労禁止処分を下していました。いずれも当時の雇用主から解雇され、就労ビザ、家族ビザを失ったという事です。 この配信はあれこれとアジアのニュースを仕入れて雑学ネタになる配信しています。是非フォローして日々の小ネタにお使い下さい。

Todos los niños y niñas tienen los mismos derechos, independientemente de su sexo, nacionalidad, raza, religión, educación, nivel económico u orientación sexual. Así se reconoce en la Declaración Universal de los Derechos del Niño aprobada el 20 de Noviembre de 1959 por la Asamblea General de las Naciones unidas. El concepto de “vulneración de derechos” corresponde a cualquier trasgresión a los derechos de niños, niñas y adolescentes establecidos en esa Convención. Según fuentes del Hogar de Cristo, en Chile, casi un tercio de la población de 0 a 17 años (32%) habita en hogares con ingresos insuficientes para satisfacer sus necesidades básicas y/o donde existen carencias en dimensiones relevantes para el bienestar, como salud, educación, trabajo y seguridad social, vivienda y entorno, redes y cohesión social. Hay 10.815 niños, niñas y adolescentes (NNA) que han sido atendidos en residencias de protección y que durante 2017 fueron separados de sus padres o tutores debido a la grave vulneración a sus derechos. Existe para con ellos una deuda histórica ya que la gran mayoría de las residencias tiene un nivel de intervención básico. Un tema que no puede dejar a nadie indiferente. In 2011 is ze als ondernemer begonnen, inmiddels bestaat haar bedrijf uit 4 personen. Met Rosanne heb ik het over de keuzes die ze maakte om van werknemer volledig te gaan ondernemen. Om later te gaan samenwerken met een partner die elkaar aanvullen en werknemers aannemen. We hebben het over de keuze waar ze nu voorstaat, weer een nieuwe werknemer aantrekken en hoe ze die beslissing uitvoert. Het overleg en de afstemming met haar partner in het bedrijf over de keuzes die ze maken. Een mooie samenwerking en telkens een stap zetten in de groei van het bedrijf. In Rotterdam was de studie geschiedenis met richting media en de master media en journalistiek. Ze leerde hier over het ontstaan van de media, tv en kranten en de opkomst van de nieuwe media. Tegenwoordig werkt ze in de toekomst van de media.In het jaar van de master moesten ze een zelf een krant samenstellen, echt de journalistieke in was de meerwaarde van de master. Toen ze klaar was met de studie is ze nooit de journalistiek in gegaan. Ze wilde meer de marketing kant op. Niet zo handig om daarna nog naar de HBO te gaan, na een jaar gestopt. Wel propedeuse gehaald en aansluitend NIMA-communicatie A gedaan. Uiteindelijk doet ze er helemaal niets meer mee.Baan zoeken maar de crisis was begonnen. Ze kon aan de slag als commercieel medewerker binnendienst. Belofte was niet nagekomen om meer richting de marketing en communicatie te gaan. Na anderhalf jaar verdeelde ze zich enorm. Van het commerciële stuk heeft ze niet echt iets geleerd waar ze nu nog iets aan heeft.Bij het impresariaat vooral geleerd hoe ze haar eigen bedrijf niet wilde doen.In het bedrijf mensen boven zich en voelde zich nooit serieus genomen. Toen wilde ze wel iets voor zichzelf doen, maar wat? Begon te bladeren in NNa gids die in de bus lag. Ze zocht naar iets wat ze leuk vindt, waar zit toekomst in en wat kan ik vanuit huis doen. In de gids zag ze de opleiding tot webdesigner. “Hoe gaaf is dat als je zelf je website kunt maken.” Achteraf een hele slechte opleiding met verouderde technieken.Veel websites gebouwd met content management systeem en ze is zich daarin gaan verdiepen. Het eerste jaar heeft ze gewerkt met Joomla, niet handig en klanten werden er naar van. Toen kwam ze bij WordPress uit en dat was liefde op het eerste gezicht. Sinds 2012 werkt ze met WordPress.WordCamp NL 2020 komt eraan. In 2018 en 2019 in de organisatie van WordCamp EU. Als je in de organisatie zit mag je niet spreken. Nu niet meer in de organisatie dus gaat ze een workshop doen, in juni in Porto. In november WordCampNL.Lorelle VanFossen en Liz Strauss spraken beide op de eerste WordCamp NL. Sliepen een week bij mij thuis. Geweldige ervaring de community rondom WordPress.Deze community heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ze bij WordPress gebleven is. Haar bijdrage aan WordCamp is een soort van terugbetalen van wat zij heeft gekregen met haar bedrijf door WordPress. Ze kan ook eenvoudig vragen stellen aan andere ondernemers in de community.Bijna 40% van de website wereldwijd worden met WordPress gebouwd nu. Welcome to CLIFF BATES and PRODUCER GEOFF GATES KIA SOUL EV 2020 REVIEWS CNET says: ”As for the all-important driving range, the Soul EV is extremely competitive. The EPA officially rates the Soul EV at 243 miles of range, which bests the Chevrolet Bolt (238 miles), Kia Niro EV (239 miles) and Nissan Leaf Plus (226 miles). Only the Hyundai Kona Electric can go farther than the Soul, with its EPA-rated 258-mile range. Paddles on the steering wheel activate different levels of brake regeneration, with the maximum Level 3 offering for the sort of one-pedal EV driving characteristics that many people (myself included) love. That said, the Soul won't regeneratively brake to a complete stop like some other EVs, though if you press the Auto Hold button on the center console, you can let go of the brake when you're stationary." Autocar were impressed by the tech: "Adaptive cruise control and lane following afford a useful amount of autonomy in heavy traffic, there’s an extensive suite of electronic safety systems, a head-up display and various features designed to maximise the battery pack. These include cooling and heating the 64kWh battery with liquid rather than air, while a button enables you to control heat or chill only the driver’s portion of the cabin if you’re one-up and need to eke. An in-built heat pump recovers waste heat from the coolant, while driving modes that include Eco and Eco Plus help. If you want one, your chief issue will be the wait – orders for the e-Niro stretch to 2020, and the Soul EV does not go on sale until late this year. But by that time, Kia’s plans to increase production of its EV powertrain may well have been realised." Steve Fowler at AutoExpress: "We’re big fans of the Soul EV’s bigger brother, the eNiro, so it stands to reason that we’d love the similarly–powered new Soul, too. However, the Soul seems have a more youthful spirit and more character, in keeping with the car’s slightly smaller size and funkier design. And Kia hopes it will be cheaper than the eNiro. A lot can happen between now and when the first cars arrive at the end of the year, but Kia would like it if the first cars could come in at just under £30,000 including the current government EV incentive." LIGHTNING INTRODUCES THE ALL-NEW $13K STRIKE "After two months of teasing, Lightning Motorcycles has finally lifted the veil off the all-new Strike, its long-range, low-price model." Says Sabrina at RideApart.com: "Lightning announced that the model will be available with three battery options. The entry-level “Strike Standard” receives a 10kWh battery with an estimated range of 70 miles on the highway and 100 miles in the city—this is the model the manufacturer has been announcing at the highly appealing price point of $12,998. The “Strike Mid-Range” is powered by a 15 kWh battery able to power the vehicle on 105 highway miles and 150 city miles. This version of the Strike has been priced at $16,998. Last but not least is the long-range “Strike Carbon Edition” which 20 kWh battery allows the bike to travel up to the much-advertised 200 miles in the city—this version is offered at $19,998. It isn’t the under-$13k price Lightning has been teasing for two months, but it is still a lot more affordable than a number of electric motorcycles currently on the market.Lightning is expected to start rolling the first Strikes out of production in July 2019 in the United States, starting with the top of the line Strike Carbon Edition. The company will announce its plan for international expansion later this year." https://www.rideapart.com/articles/315837/lightning-strike-electric-motorcycle-launch/ 10,000 ELECTRIC CARS REGISTERED IN NORWAY THIS MONTH: HALF ARE TESLA "According to the latest registration data (as of the end of March 28, 2019), new all-electric car registrations in Norway already reached 10,000 for the month (probably including a three-digit number of imported used BEVs). The official results will be announced inthe first days of April, but it’s already certain that we are watching a groundbreaking record of records." Reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "The biggest splash in March was done by Tesla, which reportedly noted 5,000 registrations, including over 4,500 Tesla Model 3. It was just 4,000 recently! With many new compelling plug-in models on the horizon, Norway could be just a year or two from almost entirely switching to electric cars." https://insideevs.com/10000-bev-registered-norway-half-tesla/ PROGRESSIVE BRAKES ADDED TO MODEL 3 New release notes for Model 3 in Europe: "If you are driving over 50 km/h and brake forcefully, the brake lights will now flash quickly to warn other drivers that your car is rapidly slowing down,” reads the description for Tesla’s Dynamic Brake Lights feature. In addition to flashing the tail lights in situations that call for unexpected heavy braking, the vehicle will also flash its hazard lights. If your car stops completely, the hazard warning lights will flash until you press the accelerator or manually press the hazard warning lights button to turn them off." PORSCHE TAYCAN ENTERS FINAL TESTING PHASE AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER REVEAL Simon at Teslarati has the lowdown on the final testing stages of the Porsche Taycan: "Porsche engineers are currently taking advantage of the summer in the Southern Hemisphere to test the Taycan’s driving dynamics in warm temperatures. At the same time, teams from the company are also testing the vehicle in Scandinavia, just a few miles away from the Arctic Circle, to evaluate the electric car’s performance in frigid temperatures. Porsche notes that the Taycan’s testing spans 30 countries, in temperatures that range from -35 to 50 degree Celcius (-31F to 122F). Porsche initially plans to start the Taycan’s production at 20,000 units per year, though positive reception from reservation holders have encouraged the company to raise its estimates for the all-electric car’s manufacturing. The Taycan will be capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and have a range of over 300 miles on one charge. The all-electric car is designed to support 350 kW charging, making it possible to replenish over 60 miles of range in just 4 minutes." "Cannis confirmed that Ford’s crossover EV will have at least 300 miles of range in E.P.A. testing, but he declined to commit to target numbers for horsepower or acceleration. Cannis said that “most interest from consumers [for EVs] is in performance vehicles.” When asked how Ford is striking the balance between power and driving range, he conveniently replied, “We will not sacrifice either. The company will continue to include hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure EV in its electrification portfolio. For regions and specific customers not wanting to go “cold turkey” (as he put it) on combustion, hybrids with and without a plug will serve their needs. Talks with Volkswagen about sharing EV platforms and tech are focused on filling in gaps in overseas markets. “We’re looking at efficiencies around the world so we can get more scale,” he said. Cannis mentioned the impact of local incentives on EV adoption.” https://insideevs.com/interview-ford-chief-electrification/ NISSAN COMPLETES SALE OF BATTERY BUSINESS TO ENVISION GROUP Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has completed the previously announced sale of its electric battery operations and production facilities to Envision Group, a world-leading digital energy company. Under the deal, Envision has completed the acquisition of Nissan subsidiary Automotive Energy Supply Corporation and battery manufacturing operations in Smyrna, Tennessee, owned by Nissan North America Inc. (NNA), and in Sunderland, England, owned by Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. (NMUK). Envision has also acquired Nissan’s Japanese battery development and production engineering operations located in Oppama, Atsugi and Zama. The workforce at all facilities covered by the deal will continue to be employed. The headquarters and development centers of the business will remain in Japan. La respuesta, casi inmediata, desde el Mineduc fue la de abrir un período de inscripción extraordinario hasta el 09 de octubre; una solución que no acaba con el problema de fondo: la exclusión de los y las NNA migrantes en Chile con Rut provisorio en el sistema educativo chileno.

It is, of course, nothing more and nothing less than the many decades of good planning and vision that have gone into building it up from the muddy old town of York to the fourth largest metropolis on the continent, and a business and cultural centre that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The Toronto Star has been inviting citizens to share with others their vision for the future of Toronto, what we must do to continue to be the envy of so many around the world and continue to attract major investment and great people. Whether this vision is based on new architecture, access to the lakefront and river systems, improved mass transit or more technology, readers have responded enthusiastically to Toronto Star journalist Christopher Hume's call for vision papers, and there has been a wealth of original and often inspirational submissions that give us all food for thought. Christopher Hume and three outstanding visionaries on Toronto's future reflect on what our City could and should look like as we get further into this new century, and the impact of these visions on the quality of everyday life. Christopher Hume is the architecture critic and urban issues columnist of the Toronto Star. Since the 1980s, when he began working for the Star, he has received five NNA nominations. In 2009, the RAI of Canada gave Hume its President's Award for Architectural Journalism. Hume was named Toronto's best newspaper columnist by NOW magazine in 2005 and Eye magazine in 2006. In 2009, Hume hosted and wrote a one hour special about Canadian cities for CBC TV's flagship series, The Nature of Things. Born in England in 1951, he came to Canada as a child. He was educated at the University of Toronto and Glendon College. Ken Greenberg is an architect, urban designer, teacher, writer, former Director of Urban Design and Architecture for the City of Toronto and Principal of Greenberg Consultants. Diverse cities have benefited from his advocacy and passion for restoring the vitality, relevance and sustainability of the public realm in urban life. In each city, with each project, his strategic, consensus building approach has led to coordinated planning and a renewed focus on urban design. He is the recipient of the 2010 American Institute of Architects Thomas Jefferson Award for public design excellence and the author of Walking Home: the Life and Lessons of a City Builder published by Random House. Patrick Luciani is currently Senior Fellow at the Global Cities Program at the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto He has authored two best selling books on economic policy and served as Executive Director at the Donner Canadian Foundation. He is also Co-Founder of the popular Salon Speakers Series at Grano and is Co-Director of the Munk Debates. The Empire Club of Canada Presents: David Mirvish In Conversation With Christopher Hume On Legacy and the Public Realm: Dreaming with Frank Gehry David Mirvish is a Canadian theatre producer, entrepreneur and art collector. A passionate supporter of the theatre and Canada's artistic community, Mr. Mirvish is the owner and operator of Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre, Princess of Wales Theatre, Ed Mirvish Theatre and Panasonic Theatre. Mr. Mirvish and his father, Ed Mirvish, also purchased and restored the renowned Old Vic Theatre in London, England which they operated from 1983 to 1998. The Toronto facilities were renovated, refurbished and, in the case of the Princess of Wales built by the Mirvish family, providing the city with premiere theatre space where they have mounted outstanding productions such as Les Miserables, The Lion King Horse, The Wizard of Oz and many others. Mirvish Productions, a company founded by Mr. Mirvish in 1986, has produced plays and musicals for these and other venues throughout Canada, on Broadway and in London's West End. In addition Mirvish Productions has presented over 500 touring productions in the city of Toronto. The Mirvish family is widely credited with making Toronto a major centre of theatre. David Mirvish is also the owner and operator of Honest Ed's, the beloved discount emporium and Toronto landmark, which was opened by his father in 1948. Christopher Hume is the architecture critic and urban issues columnist of the Toronto Star. In 2009, he won a National Newspaper Award, Canada's highest award in print journalism, for his columns.
