This week we have Molly Purcell on to share her adventure of adopting a rescue puppy named Juniper, who has become an all-around sport dog. Molly and Juniper came to Heather for puppy training and Heather quickly saw the potential for Juniper to be a sport dog. Additionally, Heather was able to see that a confident, high energy, intelligent dog like Juniper was going to need a constructive outlet. So, although the Purcells never anticipated doing much more than the average pet owner in terms of going for walks/runs, Juniper has now trained in toss and fetch disc, fast cat, barn hunt, dock diving, and scent work. Molly shares that even though Juniper has big feelings and can be reactive, dog sports has been a safe outlet for her. Molly really sees dog sports as an important enrichment tool that can provide the needed environment and stimulation for a well rounded dog. Sports also allows Juniper to be the best family member she can be by allowing her to exercise her mind and her body. However, it's not only about the dog, Molly is also having a great time participating in dog sports and making a new community of friends. It's equally important that both dog and owner are having a great time and to find a sport or sports that provides enrichment for both ends of the leash. Don't forget to review, subscribe, and share! We're still processing the Super Bowl, but in the meantime, we wanted to share an awesome conversation from Radio Row last week in Las Vegas. Ashley had the chance to sit down with her longtime friend Christina Mack for a conversation that touched on everything from the health benefits of team sports to letting go of “mom guilt” to the power of female friendships. Christina is the Chief Science Officer at global healthcare company IQVIA, and a lead sports science researcher for the NFL and NBA, or as Ashley often explains it, “she has a badass job.” A highly respected voice in the professional sports industry, she frequently presents to owners on injuries, concussions, and the safety of the game. She's also an advocate for women in STEM, a mom of three awesome kids, and a superlative scavenger-hunt-maker. If she made a mistake, it would cause her mind to spiral into thoughts such as, “I can't do anything right” or, “I'm never going to be good at this.”Kourtney shares that from her perspective, she could tell Danika was struggling to get past mistakes. She saw Danika pouring her heart and soul into her sport, but she would get stuck. Kourtney shares that it was hard to watch her daughter go through this. She didn't want to see Danika fall out of love with the sport. What Kourtney + Danika Have LearnedAfter starting the program, Danika shares that she started to notice a difference in her mindset. She became more positive, and she told herself things like, “I'm a good player, I can do this.” Danika's favorite part about the program was learning helpful breathing methods and how to slow down when she starts to feel stuck in a spiral.Kourtney shares that once they started the program, she noticed that Danika's level of self confidence significantly grew. She even saw a difference in her stature and the way she played. She was more positive, she cheered on her teammates, and she kept her head up throughout the game.Kourtney mentioned that even though they've completely gone through the program once already, they continue to talk about what they've learned and they go back to their ECP work frequently. Just like physical skills, mental training skills need practice and repetition too. If you don't use it, you lose it!TakeawaysDanika explains that going through the program with her mom has brought them much closer. She shares that when she would get frustrated while playing her sport, her mom would get upset, too. But after going through the program together, their approach to athletics is more calm and they encourage each other to remember and practice their mental training skills. If Danika was talking to an athlete who was considering jumping into the program, she would tell them that they can trust the process. In the beginning, Danika didn't understand how the program would help, but afterwards she was much more confident and her overall mentality was more positive. And if Kourtney was talking to a parent who was on the fence about the program, she would encourage them to jump in sooner rather than later. She shares that she has previously spent so much time, money, and energy on her daughter's physical training, but the investment in the mental side of the game isn't always prioritized.Kourtney + Danika, we're so grateful to have you both in the community! We're so proud of you both for all the hard work you've put in, thank you for opening up and sharing your experience with us.**********Helpful Links:Visit our podcast website for more on this episode.Join our FREE Training for Sports Moms - How to Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game so She Believes in Herself as Much as Yo

Story of failure: Knocking a backup hard rive off my desk and breaking it.Juliet Hahn grew up in Moorestown, New Jersey, a quaint town just outside of Philadelphia. She had a fulfilling childhood and her parents, Marc and Barbara, showered their five children with love, support, and humor. Juliet enjoyed being active which led to her year-round involvement in sports. She brought her love of athletics to Rowan University where she starred as a two-sport athlete. After graduation, she moved to New York City and began a career in advertising. Juliet embraced New York City's culture, diversity, and energy and made it her home for fourteen years. It also happens to be where she met her future husband, Dan. Currently, they reside in Remsenburg, New York with their three children: Montgomery (16), Truman (14), and Penelope (12) and two Boxers.Juliet started her coaching career as a virtual health and fitness coach. After gaining 65 lbs with each pregnancy and her body changing after 40, she made a conscious effort to exercise and eat a more balanced diet. The results truly changed her life, and it was her mission to share her formula with others. In 2015, she began a new adventure as a virtual health and fitness coach supporting women to lose weight, become stronger, and regain their confidence. In 2021, Juliet decided to pivot away from health and fitness coaching and into helping people connect to their passions. She offers a workshop called “Your Next Stop” (YNS) that empowers people to find their creative passion and turn it into a business which she believes everyone has the ability to do; they just need the correct tools. In addition to her workshop, she uses her YNS Podcast and YNS Live to highlight people who have turned passions into careers. This platform shares inspiring stories from people all over the world.Through these conversations, Juliet guides people to explore their past in order to connect the dots to their own story. Everyone has a story and it is through sharing, active listening (and sometimes laughing) that people connect and learn from one another.Combining these two paths has led to a partnership with NFL Thread to create a series that explores the lives and stories of NFL spouses and partners. This series chips away at the perception of NFL women and showcases their talents, initiatives and missions. In today's episode Juliet talks about:meeting at Podfeststories at what make people go ‘roundthird grade story and being one of fivespeaking vs. writing with teachersdealing with dyslexia in schoolworking with Dr. P and being away from the other kidsBlue Dolphin bookkids playing while she had to read Blue Dolphintelling herself she wasn't creativenever being with her group of friends in schoolexcelling in sports and hating reading out loudteacher asking her, ‘what are you retarded?'remembering how her mom responded and said how proud she was for standing up for herselfcalling a teacher a bad wordlooking around the room and not understanding what the teacher was talking aboutlearning how to fake ithaving a dyslexic dad in the militarydream of playing sports in collegeguidance counselor telling her she couldn't go to collegeplaying sports at elite level but doing school at a lower levelbeing a terrible test takerhaving the SAT's read to herconstantly being short of her goal on the SAT'sgoing Division III instead of going to Marylandstruggling in math and sciencedysgraphiaher dad making relationship despite being called dumbadhd processinghaving a son that learns in spite of dyslexiateachers not realizing the power of their wordsjust sit and try harderacknowledging and teachingthe more you ask questions, the more you don't get it–clearly I'm dumbthe public system is brokenYour Next Stop Podcaststorytelling is an arttaking other people out of their crazy lifeunderstanding what she was meant to dostreaming on Fireside appNFL series with the LinkedIn of NFL Spousesinterviewing NFL player spousesPivot Podcast - Leaving the NFLinterviewing Ricky Waters and his wifesociety needs to think about the good thingshow players are effecting by fans in good and bad waysher mom being her biggest cheerleaderhaving two really close friends encouraging herhigh school coach that was really hard on her, but it was what she neededher husband being a big mentor and cheerleaderhaving to run with an idea in her headNFL Fashion show and interviewing in Arizonathe NFL Hall of Fame show“Just keep creating and see what happens.”“I don't harp on failures.”story of failing when putting together a websitewanting to focus on her family tripstarting the website without the meatgetting the fire goingfailures as seminarsgrowing up and doing stupid things“If you can't change it, don't stress on it.”pray that it's all going to work outnot dwelling on failureworking with HR on the interview processloving her kids sporting eventsthe problem of not hiring the right peoplerolling out something newmost nervous about figuring out how she is able to carry out her visiongoal of retiring her husband and giving him a choicewanting to be there for her kids and not missing big thingssetting up for the Super Bowl shownot seeing the 't'www.iamjuliethahn.com Your Next Stop PodcastYNS Live PodcastTwitter - @iamjuliethahnInstagram - @iamjuliethahnYouTube----Learn more at www.professional-failure.com!
Many female athletes struggle with a lack of confidence which can prevent them from being competitive and reaching their full potential. When athletes feel confident, they're focused on the task, feel comfortable, and commit fully to decisions – all of which can help them perform well. On the other hand, when they don't feel confident, they often doubt themselves, feel nervous, focus on the wrong things, and make poor decisions, which can result in poorer performances. As a mom, you can have a huge influence on your daughter's confidence with sports. But, how do you do it?Today, we'll talk about how to build confidence in young female athletes with our special guest, Holli. Holli is a dedicated sports mom to Sienna, a middle school basketball player. Just like every young athlete, Sienna has had her fair share of ups and downs; she gets frustrated when she doesn't perform well and her confidence takes a hit. But, Holli is able to help her daughter overcome these challenges, helping her achieve success in her chosen sport. 1. Invest in your child's mental training. Just as you invest in your child's skills training, equipment, coaching, and other things necessary to improve their game, make sure to invest in your child's mental training, too. 2. Remind your child that they are not alone. Remind your child that they're not alone; that other athletes struggle from time to time, too. 3. Foster healthy communication. Good communication is important to building confidence. Most sports hinge on good communication. As a mom, you need to foster healthy communication between you and your child. 4. Focus on team building. Give your child the opportunity to strengthen their relationships with their teammates off court. When players have a strong relationship off court, they are more likely to work well together on the court.5. Teach them that mistakes happen – and that they shouldn't dwell on them. No one's perfect, and nothing that anyone does in life is 100% successful. Athletes are no different – even the pros make mistakes from time to time. 6. Create a supportive environment. When female athletes are in an environment that encourages and supports them without question, they will find it much easier to be competitive and have confidence in their game.7. Remind them to have fun. If you notice that your child is no longer having fun, or that they're starting to crack under the pressure, it may be time to step back and reevaluate the situation. Of course, it's important to take sports seriously. But, remind your child to have fun! When athletes are having fun, they're more likely to let go of their self-doubt and they can fully immerse themselves in the experience.Remember: Your child's mental game is their biggest competitive advantage! As a mom, you play a key role in building your child's confidence, and there are many things you can do off court to help build it.**********Helpful Links:Visit our podcast website for more on this episodeJoin our FREE training for Sports Moms - How To Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game So She Believes In Herself As Much As You DoThe BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. It's no surprise on this show that Dave has shared his story about infertility and the time it took for him to become a father. The unending numbness and despair he would never get to be a father. The one thing he always wanted. That's why when Carol Silver asked to be on the show and share her experiences, it was a no-brainer. Carol is a successful professional, but her personal life has no shortage of remarkable moments. From experiencing 9/11 firsthand to beating cancer to her journey through infertility, she is the true embodiment of the word “survivor.” She shares these challenges in hopes of giving others encouragement and inspiration along their own journeys. Carol's most recent passion has been creating and hosting Hollywood Sports Mom, a weekly podcast with special guests covering celebrities, athletes, parenthood, infertility, cancer, karma, and other curveballs in life. This isn't the mindset from a father but gives some amazing insight for husbands to understand their emotions and their spouses' emotions when the unthinkable happens. Carol has gone through multiple trails trying to raise her own little family, and each time she was beaten down she got up stronger and unwilling to quit. We dig into that mindset Carol had on becoming a mom, and although not directly talked about, give us dads some insights and tips to this extreme challenge. Buckle up and get ready cause this ride is a good one. Be sure to follow the Hollywood Sports Mom podcast wherever you get your podcasts (like where you're listening to this one) and over at hollywoodsportsmom.com.
There is no manual on how to be a sports mom. Your female athlete may receive extensive coaching, but how many coaches do we as mothers receive to assist our daughters?Female athletes go through a lot of phases. The most common situation that they're going to face is having a hard time coming back from mistakes. A lot of athletes beat themselves for those mistakes. They focus on the one mistake and it goes downhill from there. Navigating the obstacles that your daughter faces as an athlete is difficult. What kind of mom can navigate through these challenges? Today, I'm going to share with you these two types of sports moms and help you figure out where you fit in between the two.I'm going to talk about what these two moms do and how they approach these very common issues that their athlete daughters face.Which Mom Do You Identify Yourself With? What do you do when your daughter is struggling out there with things that every athlete struggles with: pressure, nervousness, making mistakes, feeling like she let the team down, and not knowing how to recover from mistakes? If your daughter is going through these things, there is nothing wrong with her. However, it is your responsibility as her mother to equip her with the necessary skills to navigate this.If you're "Winging it, Wendy," you're just winging it. You'll go to Google. You're simply telling her to be self-assured. You're telling her to unwind. You're telling her that everyone makes mistakes. Here's the thing: “Telling is not teaching.”Your daughter needs to practice these skills to manage her emotions and achieve her goals. And, fortunately, your daughter has an opportunity right in front of her. If you haven't already, go to trainhergame.com and look at the training where I go more in-depth with this."Winging It Wendy" literally means "winging it." Because she takes a different approach, "Game Changer Gabby" changes the game for her daughter. She is not like other mothers who are winging it. She is very deliberate in her approach to her daughter. She is very deliberate about the opportunities she gives her daughter to improve her own mental game. She is very deliberate in what she says to her daughter. She is deliberate in what she says to herself aloud. And she's very intentional in all of these areas, which changes the game for her daughter as well as their relationship.Ask yourself today…“Am I winging it and being Wendy?” If yes then, “How can I become more like Gabby?”Strengthen her mental game and what you can do to support her, making sure you're saying and doing things that will help her rather than just telling her to be confident.**********Helpful Links:Join our FREE training for Sports Moms - How To Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game Without Being Pushy Or Saying The Wrong Thing. The BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. We have such an amazing guest on the pod this week… Senator Cory Booker! Ever since Trump “warned” suburban women that Cory Booker would be coming to our neighborhoods if Biden got elected, we've been excitedly waiting for him to visit. And this week, he dropped by The Suburban Women Problem! But before we get to Senator Booker, hosts Jasmine Clark, Amanda Weinstein, and guest host Katie Paris talk about the inspiring women of Ukraine, schools, and an article Amanda co-wrote where she discovered that job growth is actually more tied to great schools and parks than it is to tax cuts for businesses. (Yet again, policymakers should be listening to moms!)Then the hosts are joined by Red Wine & Blue's organizing director Julie Womack. Julie drops by to tell everyone about the brand-new Parent Playbook, a fun guide full of helpful advice for moms who want to organize in their communities. Julie also talks about some of the amazing women she's met through her work with Red Wine & Blue and how she considers an “activist” to be anyone who cares about their community. And then it's the moment we've all been waiting for… our interview with Cory Booker! Amanda and Katie sit down with the Senator to discuss Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, hope, book bans, comfort TV, and his grandma. And of course he destroys a few right-wing talking points while he's at it. Finally, the hosts raise a glass to best friends, proud Sports Mom moments, and to inspiring women in the military in this week's “Toast to Joy.”For a transcript of this episode, please email theswppod@redwine.blue.
