In episode 2, of Season 6, after the Living Leadership segment, I provide a brief lecture on Kouzes and Posner's "The Leadership Challenge," during which I describe the fundamentals of leadership, the characteristics of admired leaders, and highlight the Five Practices (or behaviors) of Exemplary Leaders. In the Living Leadership Interview segment, I discuss leadership philosophy with Libby Kruse, the Vice President of Partnership Sales at Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx and Trinity University alumna ('14). Libby describes her personal leadership journey, coming from Minnesota to play college basketball at Trinity, a transformational coaching change, an exercising outsight in as many ways possible. She details the importance of mentors and why being curious is a key personal trait for emerging leaders to develop and refine. She emphasizes that leadership is earned, not given - and can be accomplished by building relationships, developing trust, and being curious. Libby cares deeply about being a role model, inspiring others, challenging (with a purpose), allowing others to be their best, and why she relishes being "the hype woman." Libby also describes how her experience as an athlete and self-awareness, developed partially through using the DISC profile, allowed her to see two or three steps into the future. It was so much fun to catch up with my former student -- I hope you love the Spring Break story as much as I do!!! Send me your thoughts and let's keep the conversation going on Twitter (@TingleJK) or on LinkedIn.

Ford as they dive into what truly sets Northeast Mississippi Community College apart from other colleges and universities -- including four-year institutions. Ford shares how Northeast creates a close-knit, “family” atmosphere where everyone knows a person's name, values their story, and supports their success. From the low faculty-to-student ratio and engaging student events that make college life memorable, to the value of paying less than one-third the cost of a four-year institution while receiving the same -- or even better -- education, students and parents discover every day why Northeast is one of the nation's premier community colleges. For the first time ever, we all hit Disneyland together. Listen in as Britt, Luke, and Kami relive the chaos, the churros, and the questionable life choices that went down in the Happiest Place on Earth. From queue debates that nearly ended friendships, to weird Disneyland traditions old ("Spring Break!") and new ("Now all of China knows you're here!"), to discovering which of us has some deeply unhinged snack priorities (like, who rope drops a corn dog?!) —this episode is basically one long fever dream powered by Dole Whips. You're welcome. As always, we're PG-13 Disney nonsense for grown-up ears only.

Spring Break in Maui: A Trip of Compassion and CallingWhen wildfires swept through Lahaina, Maui, in 2023, they left more than ashes behind — they left a community in mourning. Homes were destroyed, lives were uprooted, and hope felt fragile. However, during a recent spring break, hope arrived in the form of a team of students and faculty from Cedarville University led by Col. (Ret.) Greg Thompson and Dr. Patrick Oliver. The idea began in a moment of connection. Greg, who had recently moved to Ohio from Hawaii, met Mark and Dawn Brown — Hawaiian parents of a Cedarville student — during Getting Started Weekend. What started as a conversation about community turned into something much bigger: an opportunity to serve.“I reached out to the Made In Hope ministry the Browns mentioned and learned they had enough room for our group,” Greg shared. “We slept on cots — five-star location, one-star accommodations — but it was perfect.”That setting became the base for a week of powerful ministry. The team didn't just come to rebuild homes or pass out supplies — the needs had shifted. Instead, they got to rebuild hearts. Through prayer, presence, and listening, the students poured into a hurting community.“It wasn't just physical work,” Greg said. “It was about being there — about showing the love of Christ in a place that desperately needed comfort.”What the team gave may seem simple, but it left a deep impact: game nights with families, worship with locals, and heartfelt conversations with those still grieving. It was a reminder that healing isn't always measured in walls rebuilt but in souls encouraged. And the work isn't finished. As Mark Brown shared, “There will be many stages of recovery — prayer, rebuilding, financial support. But God has been faithful.”Cedarville's team was a living testimony to that faithfulness. Through simple acts of service, they brought the message that Lahaina is not forgotten — by them or by the God who walks with them.Learn more about this labor of love on this week's episode of the Cedarville Stories podcast.https://share.transistor.fm/s/bc2e13a7https://youtu.be/p_17V2TPdGg

Send us a textIt's amazing what getting a job will do to you.I was still taking classes at IU, but the Bloomington Police Department had already given me a call and confirmed that I was going to be hired in a few months. My first full time job.At the time I was working as a part time officer for IUPD while going to school and I was making about 7 bucks an hour. That was great, because at the time minimum wage was 4.25 an hour. Even then paying rent, putting gas in a car, and eating was about all I could afford. That call changed everything. In just a couple of months I was going to be making 41,000 dollars a year as a first-year officer. That might not sound like much, but in today's money that would be over 86K a year and I don't think anyone would sneeze at that salary for a rookie. That's when my buddy hit me up.Want to go to Florida for Spring Break?Silly question, but in the past, I didn't have any money, and while I still didn't have any money, I had a big-time job coming and I had this little plastic thing in my pocket I had just picked up, a credit card.I wouldn't recommend putting a week's spring break vacation on a credit card. That was just the beginning of my troubles.Right after swearing in, I bought my first brand new car. No more barely running rust buckets, but a nice shiny brand-new Geo Storm sports car…don't judge me.It was a budget sports car coming in at 12,000 dollars, see I was being frugal. And, just to put it in perspective that would be just under 30,000 bucks in today's money. My spending habits didn't get any better. As a matter of fact, I look back on about my first decade of policing and wonder.“Where did all my money go?”Financial Stability isn't something that comes natural to cops. As a matter of fact, my story isn't unusual. Actually, I did a pretty good job compared to some of the things we see new officers do with their money.Since I decided to focus this season on retirement I new that I had to talk to a financial planner, someone who understood not only money, but the special issues that money brings to cops, and ultimately how to retire. So, I reached out to Nick Daugherty at Financial CopNick is the President/owner at FinancialCop LLC and Serve & Protect Financial Texas, a full service, fiduciary only financial service firm owned and operated by first responders for first responders. They are also the largest financial wellness training group for first responders nationally, having taught over 30,000 first responders from over 3,000 agencies, police academies, and conferences nationwide. Currently Nick is a reserve officer for the Grand Prairie Police Department after 14 1/2 years as a full-time officer / sergeant.https://financialcop.com/

Chaya Leah is back from Israel, and boy does she have a story to tell! It has everything: bombs, planes, boats, sandwiches, and horny birthright kids. We're so happy she's home safe, and hope that her grandchildren will retell her story to the next generations. You can also read her testimony in this Times of Israel piece. As promised, here is a link to the Chabad in Cyprus and the Chabad in Germany, if you want to pay them back for all the food, and in general just thank them for their kindness. Hey, Neighbor! Hand things to babies when you want them to fling them to the floor. Next, congratulations to the protesters for braving the flood and keeping all the kings away from America. Later, Michael Tate of the Newsboys issued a public apologiy for grievous sin. Why do we keep getting surprised by celebrity culture producing these sorts of scandals? In a similar vein, what would cause a teenager to tag along with his irresponsible buddies on spring break to Panama City? Maybe it's the same lack-of-thought when a boy makes a pass at a girl who's engaged? Make sure you stay at least long enough to hear John sing about Captain Crunch... Few people have as much knowledge of the MAGAsphere as Jordan Klepper, co-host and correspondent for The Daily Show. Klepper has been covering President Trump and his supporters since the 2016 presidential campaign, from rallies across the country to the steps of the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. One difference that he — and others — have noted between Trump 1.0 and 2.0 is the growing number of young people, especially young men, who are now in the Republican fold. Kara talks to Klepper about his upcoming special, The Daily Show Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse: MAGA: The Next Generation, and what he learned about young conservatives on his tour of college campuses, UFC events, and Spring Break beaches. They discuss "manosphere" influencers such as Charlie Kirk, Andrew Tate, and Joe Rogan, which progressive voices (like Hasan Piker) might break through, and whether Hollywood and comedy are veering to the right. The infamous annual ritual of spring break—where thousands of college students head to the same warm location and go crazy—can seem like it's always been here. But it hasn't. The spring break phenomenon is a holdover from midcentury teen culture that has endured by changing, just enough, to be passed from one generation to the next. In this episode we're going from the beaches of Fort Lauderdale to Daytona, from the movie screen to the TV set, from MTV to Instagram reels, from its start to its surprisingly recognizable present, as we follow the evolving, self-reinforcing rite that is spring break. You'll hear from former MTV staffers Doug Herzog, Salli Frattini, Alan Hunter, and Joe Davola, along with John Laurie, Kaylee Morris, and Slate writer Scaachi Koul. This episode was written by Willa Paskin and Katie Shepherd and produced by Katie. It was edited by Evan Chung, Decoder Ring's supervising producer. Our show is also produced by Max Freedman. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. Thank you to Bob Friedman and Allan Cohen, producers of Spring Broke; David Cohn, Derreck Johnson, and Ivylise Simones. On the night of August 14, 1985, twenty-year-old Kristin O'Connell left a party in Ovid, NY to go for a walk. Two days later, her nude body was discovered near a cornfield along a rural county road; she had been stabbed in the chest and her throat was cut. The unsolved murder of Kristin O'Connell has baffled local New York investigators for decades. At the time of her murder, Kristin had traveled from Minnesota to New York to visit a young man she'd met a few months earlier while on Spring Break in Florida. According to witnesses, Kristin wasn't wearing shoes when she left the party and she wasn't carrying a purse. Several witnesses reported having seen Kristin walking that night between 11:30 pm and 12:15 am, when she was seen talking to one or possible two men in a car. Roughly ten minutes later, several people reported hearing a loud scream coming from the area where her body was discovered. In the decades since Kristin's murder, police have interviewed dozens of witnesses and followed up on thousands of leads, yet the case remains no closer to being solved than it was in the days following the discovery of the body. Please sign the Petition to override the decision to not permit 'touch DNA' to potentially solve this cold case! visit https://www.change.org/p/family-demands-dna-testing-by-othram-labs-in-the-kristin-o-connell-cold-caseThank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAllen, Matha. 1985.
