Despite its legend and history, like all roads, Route 66 is transitory and in a constant state of evolution. The small businesses that form its backbone face continuously steep odds and iconic sites aren't immune from decay or closure. This was deeply felt in 2015 when Shea's, a beloved gas station turned museum on the north end of Springfield, was forced to close following the death of its famed owner. Yet, legacies don't disappear overnight and thanks to the efforts of many, Shea's isn't just a memory but might be on the cusp of a rebirth. In this episode, we'll pay a visit to Springfield where we'll learn of Bill Shea from his Grandchildren, and a few passionate souls who are working to ensure his name remains far more than a memory. Officially opened in 1949, Springfield's Cozy Dog Drive-In claims to be the home of the first batter-fried hot dog on a stick, and having born witness to over seventy years of transitions, ranks amongst Route 66's most beloved institutions. Now in its third-generation of family ownership, we'll learn of its history from past and present proprietors Buz and Josh Waldmire. Artist William Crook Jr. also joins us to pay tribute to his friend and contemporary Bob Waldmire, for whom The Cozy Dog stands as an informal living memorial. LEADERSHIP NEVER MORE NEEDED: 3/4: Battle Tested! Gettysburg Leadership Lessons for 21st Century Leaders, by Jeffrey D. McCausland (Author) Colonel Jeff McCausland , USA (retired) @mccauslj @CBSNews @dickinsoncol https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Tested-Gettysburg-Leadership-Lessons/dp/1642934534 In order to be a truly effective leader, it is necessary to learn as much as possible from the examples of history—the disasters as well as the triumphs. At Gettysburg, Union and Confederate commanders faced a series of critical leadership challenges under the enormous stress of combat. The fate of the nation hung in the balance. Each of these leaders responded in different ways, but the concepts and principles they applied during those traumatic three days contain critical lessons for today's leaders that are both useful and applicable—whether those leaders manage operations at a large corporation, supervise a public institution, lead an athletic team, or govern a state or municipality. In the twenty-first century, leadership is the indispensable quality that separates successful organizations from failures. Successful leaders communicate vision, motivate team members, and inspire trust. One must move both people and the collective organization into the future while, at the same time, dealing with the past. A leader must learn to master the dynamic requirements of decision-making and change 1900 Springfield Illinois

On April 14th, 1864 several families left Springfield IL for the fertile farmlands of Central California. Known as the Donner Party for their leader George Donner, the group decided to take a shortcut known as The Hastings Cutoff instead of the well established Oregon Trail. A decision many wouldn't live to regret. Today, we'll discuss the troubles they faced along the way, how the survivors were finally rescued, and what drove the group to cannibalism. Mario is from Springfield IL. He grew up with his mother and his cousins as his brothers. Mario always wanted to be a rapper/entertainer and recorded his own songs/tapes in the 3rd and 4th grade using radio shack karaoke machines and a lot of miscellaneous wires. Loving basketball at a young age but then ruining his basketball dreams and military opportunity to join the Air Force after getting into some serious trouble with the law as a teenager. He was crushed and turned to the streets. No one would hire him and no one would give me a chance. Mario lost all his siblings all around him to violence and this was an eye opener for him to change. Despite the deaths and the legal trouble, Mario managed to land himself on a few big stages going on tour with Twista and landing a huge TV role on fox on the show Empire. Mario was sleeping in his car just to be a background extra for two years just to save money because that was the entrepreneurial spirit he had. Now, Mario currently owns commercial real estate and few other businesses including an Anytime Fitness in Lincoln IL. Follow him @ThisisCanon for more content. In this episode, Brad and Mario discuss his story and how he found solace and fame through the lessons he has learned. 00:00 Intro 02:55 Mario's story 08:05 Bomb: Building the body helps building the mind 09:17 The feeling of “I am going to die.” 12:00 Getting on Empire 17:38 Bomb: Believing in what's possible 21:10 Staying positive 22:42 Bomb: People can change…be aware of you hang out with 25:00 Bomb: It's gotta be in you, not on you 28:24 Advice for you 35:36 A normal day 41:42 Mario's song 46:00 Having nothing
Today's show rundown: Mark starts us out with The Left going out of their minds. The big problem is over the past weekend there were 2 shooting events, where legally armed citizens brought the encounter to a halt. These were mass shootings that were stopped before anything escalated. Coverage of these shootings have been spun in a negative light, and twisted. This killed the narrative of the Left for legal carry in this country. Why can't people on the left figure out that their policies are failing. Illinois lost the equivalent of the entire population of Springfield Illinois. San Fran has lost hundreds of thousands of people. There is an exodus out of Blue Cities, and they are moving to Red Cities. People with their feet, they vote with their money. They are leaving these loony cities by the car loads. Mark introduces us to Ali Nasser, a friend of his through Strategic Coach. Ali has a new book called "The Business Owner's Dilemma". Ali tells us a little about his background and the guys get into Entrepreneurship. Listen in for all the chats. https://www.amazon.com/Business-Owners-Dilemma-Control-Chatter/dp/1544501463/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ali+nasser+book&qid=1658255826&sr=8-1
