Vivi y Merce

Robert E Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia press onwards … Marching confidently into Southern Pennsylvania after a string of Confederate victories. Talk of independence circulates among the southern troops … a shared belief solidifies - this march north will solidify Southern independence. Meanwhile, Northern hopes to preserve the union remain dangerously low and leadership of the army of the Potomac changes just THREE days before one of the largest and most consequential battle in American history. The Battle of Gettysburg is here … What then, will be the experiences and ultimate fate of Confederate Colonel William Oats and Union Lieutenant Frank Haskell? No single account of the Civil War can adequately tell the entire story; its causes, challenges, and societal impact are - to put it mildly - complicated. However, firsthand narratives of the war's great battles, daily struggles and accompanying frustrations provide a snapshot - a partial lens from which we can attempt to better understand the entire picture. In this three part series, we explore the life and writings of Northern Lieutenant Frank Haskell and Confederate Colonel William Oats. We'll use their lives to better understand the causes of the civil war, the experience had by common soldiers during it and explore personal accounts at the battle of Gettysburg. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by first-time guest Claire Bankole, a coach who leads a Christian charity called Shift Youth and Community, to talk about identity – both how we see ourselves and how others see us and how we interact externally and internally. KEY TAKEAWAYS For me, being a Christian is an all-encompassing thing. I live my life as a faith worker, I don't draw a salary and haven't done it for 20 years. I live my life based on what I sense my purpose is and my call before God and as I do that I trust that everything that I need will come. Faith for me is tuning into what God is doing, in my and in you, what am I experiencing now? How do I see my past and make sense of it? How do I make sense of these circumstances? How do I make sense of who I am and my own life? It's about perspective, but you look at everything. The anchor point is Jesus and God and He is good, and so all things work together for good. But, it's not in a random way, it's in a trustworthy way. Aa we follow and are obedient to that way of love, we are expressing His nature and we become more like him, and the world will become a better place. Love is the opposite of self-centeredness, when we love the other as Christ loves us, we lay down our lives, it's a sacrificial, unconditional love. My understanding of my sense of self is that we're complex, living beings, we are physical, mental, spiritual. But we're pulled in two directions, towards God and towards the self. One is towards trust and relationship, and one is mistrust and self-preservation and there's a constant pull between them. BEST MOMENTS ‘My perspective of faith is seeing things the way God sees them and living accordingly.'‘God is intelligently and lovingly interacting and waiting and bringing about His purposes and His goodness. That requires us to harmonise with him.'"God is love and, as a Christian, the greatest commandment is to love God, the next greatest is to love your neighbour, then Jesus added a third one: Love one another as He has loved us.'‘Often in religious conversations, people can get very idealistic. Christians are called to love and He sorts out everything else, we're not called to judge, separate, say I'm in and you're not.' The NFL has begun and it's time to stake your claims on which storylines should be overreacted to and which ones should leave you "cool and calm". The boys make their Hot and Bothered or Cool and Calm picks and then head into the Game of the Week, Suicide Pool Picks, and Kieran's depressing SYC.
A great thinker, strategist and business leader, Paul talks to us about his journey and learning experiences as CEO and how he led SYC to become one of the largest and most innovative purpose Organizations in Australia. As a not-for-profit veteran, with over 18 years of experience as a CEO of some of our most game-changing organisations including Vinomofo, Paul Edgington knows one thing: There's no such thing as a Proper CEO.So don't bother trying. Starting off as a sixteen-year-old who walked into his local pizza joint and thought, hey, I could run this place, Paul has learned some serious lessons in leadership. In this episode, we explore:
This was a fun conversation. I always find it so cool to hear stories about how people get into this industry. Today you will meet Richard Fyk, Co-Founder of SYC Brewing in Edmonton, Alberta. Richard did not start out in Hospitality, and I think that's what makes this such a cool story because he loves it, he gets it, and SYC is doing some really amazing things and creating some awesome beers. A part of this conversation that I loved so much was when we spoke about a regular guest of SYC whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer, for him, and the Stollery, they created a beer called Mana Ohana (meaning family strength in Hawaiian), it's such a heartwarming story. I hope you enjoy this conversation and if you haven't had the chance to try SYC Brewing yet maybe this is your call to do just that and support an amazing local brewery.

Leaving a Legacy of Love and Humility with Paul Edginton : EP 6A builder of legacies through love and humility is what excites Paul Edginton. Right from his childhood, Paul realised that a life of service to somebody else is the true meaning of purpose which he brings to his roles in the not-for-profit and business world.Paul has enriched the lives of youth on the streets for many, many years and changed the thinking of how not-for-profit businesses operate. As CEO, he's taken SYC from a $400K members profit to a $30M+ balance sheet. Taking this knowledge to the role he has now as CEO of Vinomofo, he uses the core value of love to permeate every aspect. Paul's quiet but commanding personality shines in this conversation as he delves into some enticing questions around:· Leadership in the business world today· The advantage you can teach your kids for the future of business· His personal life and how that's entwined with how he operates in the business world· How love is central to the business landscape· What's made him a better CEO· What in his childhood led to the type of businessman he is todayMy key takeaways from this conversation with Paul are:· Refuse & Decide – I refuse to accept that and I decide to do something differently· Failure is to be looked at as school fees – some are expensive · “Love” makes corporates uncomfortable A quote from the conversation that stuck with me: “If you can do it, then do it! For today's episode of the Let's Meet for a Beer Podcast I'm teaming up with our good friends from Brightside. Brightside by ATB is a free banking app that helps you do more you - so you can save for and spend on the craft beer you enjoy. Just like our team at Alberta Beer Festivals, Brightside calls Alberta home and is proud to support great local breweries and businesses with their Friends with Benefits program. Today we'll be chatting with SYC Brewing Company, one of Brightside's Friends with Benefits where Brightsiders can earn extra savings. Today I sat down with Richard Fyk, Co-Founder of SYC Brewing Company in Edmonton, Alberta. The first thing we discuss is what exactly SYC stands for? Is it Show Your Colors? Is it Share Your Craft? Do you pronounce every letter S-Y-C, or is it pronounced “SICK” like the kids say? These are the hard-hitting questions I like to ask on my podcast!SYC has been around for a relatively short amount of time and they have faced many challenges since the doors opened. It's one thing to deal with the learning curve of opening a new business in an unfamiliar industry - but let's add a global pandemic to the mix and see how you handle it! Well I've been following SYC closely since their doors opened and I'm proud to see how they have responded to the challenges and the products that they have introduced to the market. It was great to meet up with Richard at the brewery to get a look at the operations. I had a blast (as always) and I hope you enjoy our conversation!More About Brightside:Join Brightside and experience the banking app that helps you do more you. Download the app to sign up in minutes from your phone to get spending and saving - all for free. You can learn more about Brightside by ATB at hibrightside.ca. Brightside's giving all you lucky listeners $30 when you sign up using the code BEER. Today's session is a hot topic: Christian Romance.
It's OK to change your mind! Just because it's "always been done that way", or it felt right when it started, doesn't mean it has to stay that way. Stasis in business, is a death sentence. So, too was the decision to name my podcast TYC when it debuted. Back in the early days of Ad Zombies we got these big yellow chairs from IKEA. The three yellow chairs were where all the important conversations happened, so... the podcast took on the name TYC for the Three Yellow Chairs. Brilliant, right? I know, I was in the room where it happened. A few weeks ago, I started having a mid-podcast crisis. (That's like a midlife crisis without the fast car and new wife.) What did "TYC" even mean to people who listened to the podcast? We no longer had three yellow chairs. Like rabbits, they multiplied and we had seven yellow chairs. Should we rename it SYC for seven yellow chairs? I was spiraling into full-on existential crisis mode. So we had a meeting. OK, I called a meeting and proclaimed a rebrand of the podcast. My team smiled, sort of. I think it was more of a smirk, a placating "oh shit, really?" look. (Or was it more of an "oh shit...finally?!") The podcast had a mission, a purpose, an audience, but the name... it needed an update. It needed to connect the content to the consumer and make sense. Thus, EntreGrow was born. Or, reborn. Or just renamed. Either way, I hope you enjoy it! _________ Follow me @spankymoskowitz on Facebook - Instagram - Twitter - LinkedIn Grab a copy of my Best Selling book on Amazon - Jab Till It Hurts how following Gary Vaynerchuk's advice helped me build a seven figure brand. — Need great Ad Copy, Emails, or other words that sell anything for your business? Scott talks to Deepika Mehta, a friend and fellow long term practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga yoga. Deepika has been practicing yoga for over 20 years, where she used the tools of yoga to heal from a devastating climbing accident. Since then she has thrived, studying the Sivananda and Ashtanga yoga traditions and becoming an Authorised Level 2 teacher, from her teacher Sharath Jois, in the latter. She currently runs highly regarded retreats and intensives around the world with her co-teacher and husband, Mark Robberds. You can find out more about Deepika here _____________ Movement into Stillness - Deepika Mehta Scott and Deepika have known each other since March 2019, where they met at the Ashtanga Yoga Bali Conference. They bonded over a love of music, both touched by how music has affected and driven their lives. They recorded this interview while both teaching in Goa in November 2019. In a beautifully honest and open interview Deepika shares: how movement has been an intrinsic part of the way she understands her life and how yoga is a deeply spiritual part of her life. how she found yoga after a life threatening accident and how her recovery was the jumping off point to yoga becoming a central part of her life. beautifully honest comparisons between who she is now and growing up in India as a young girl. how prayer has been a deep part of her life since she was a young girl how her grandfather was a yogi. how she discovered Sivananda yoga. That was her way into yoga practice. how intimidated, challenging and out of place she first found the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore (now SYC). how Ashtanga yoga became an expression of spirituality for her. how she has a deep love for her teacher Sharath Jois and what he brings as a yoga teacher. how she has developed herself as a teacher over the years the way practice can become effortless. A stillness. how body skills and training the body is pointing back to our personal sadhana. how physical practice and movement is a meditation for her. how movement and dance have been deeply spiritual for her. how she teaches new students who have just started yoga. how she steps out of her own way when she is practicing and teaching. how she stays inspired every day. what she has learnt over the years of practice. what it means to live a contemplative life. 'Deepika is a highly inspiring woman. She has had to overcome a deeply personal trauma in her younger years that has now transformed the way she lives her life, and practices and teaches yoga. Deepikas story shows how you can find an inner resolve through movement and by finding the courage to turn inwards. Scott Johnson - April 2020 If you enjoy this podcast then also listen to Scott’s conversation with Caroline Taylor who has a beautiful story about how yoga transformed her life.

We retrace the birth of yacht racing at SYC and discover how a few passionate volunteers founded, what has grown into a successful club that hosts more than 500 races a year today.
