Success often boils down to one simple question: Are you willing to take the stairs while others look for the escalator? Building a thriving real estate career, growing your personal brand, and achieving true success demands effort most people aren't willing to put in. The average person chooses the easier path, hoping for shortcuts. But successful agents and investors understand that taking the stairs—doing the hard things others avoid—is what sets them apart. In today's crowded real estate market, being "just another agent" or investor won't cut it. Clients don't choose services; they choose you. A strong personal brand makes you their first choice, builds trust, and creates opportunities others never see. Without it, you're leaving deals, relationships, and income on the table. New York Times bestselling author of Take The Stairs, Hall of Fame speaker, and Co-Founder of Brand Builders Group, Rory Vaden joins me to talk about the importance of building a personal brand, why it's crucial to lock in on the one problem you can solve and the one audience you can speak to. Successful people do things that most people aren't willing to do. -Rory Vaden Things You'll Learn In This Episode Stairs vs. escalators Success often requires taking the harder path, like choosing the stairs over the escalator, to build discipline and resilience. We've been inundated with journalistic malpractice as much of the corporate media has led the charge to destroy President Biden's candidacy. I've certainly criticized the NY Times, Wall St Journal, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC and more than a few *pundits* who are attempting to lead the masses down a disastrous road. Today, I'm going to salute some who are being responsible, like the Philadephia Inquirer who published an editorial calling on D'ump to leave the race, and Inquirer National Columnist WILL BUNCH - today's guest - who writes in his latest column, "I will support whatever approach appears to be the best way forward for keeping Trump out of the White House again, full stop. In fact, as a newspaper columnist, I promise I mostly am not going to write about the Democrats' drama going forward, because the Republican threats to our democracy are so much more important. To be sure, I'm headed to Chicago in August for the Dems' convention, and I'll opine if there's a major change at the top. But I'll regret it if I waste one word on any other subject that's not stopping dictatorship."
Odd fact: I was the sports editor on my high school newspaper for a time. One assignment I had was to interview and write an article about a classmate who was emerging as a top boxer, headed for the Junior Golden Gloves competition. Fast forward 45 years later, the subject of said article, , tells me he almost skipped the interview because he felt unsure about doing it. I'll admit that I felt intimidated because Chris seemed like a pretty tough guy and we hung out in very different crowds. The article won an honorable mention at the Columbia Scholastic Journalism Conference and it gave Chris a confidence boost in ways neither of us could ever have imagined. Gathering at our 45th high school reunion this past October, I learned that Chris was going to be installed in our hometown of Bay Shore, NY's Hall of Fame for his achievements as a highly innovative and accomplished plaintiff attorney. After high school, Chris worked as a carpenter and continued to pursue boxing, but stopped competing in his early 20s. Working in New York City, he walked by Hunter College regularly. Chris decided to take a class, did well and decided to enroll as a degree granting student, discovering capabilities he never realized he had. Law school followed immediately afterward. Chris started his law career as a corporate defense attorney representing the interests of big business. Struck by the imbalance of power between corporations and the individuals harmed by them, he left to become a plaintiff attorney. A founding partner of , Chris is known for multidistrict mass torts and class actions involving drug injury, toxic injury and personal injury. His practice also handles product liability, property damage, antitrust, third-party payer litigation, and consumer, insurance, and securities fraud. Chris has led complex litigations in the U.S. representing plaintiffs and achieving landmark settlements in cases including the 3M Combat Arms Earplug Litigation, National Prescription Opiate Litigation, NFL Players' Concussion Litigation, Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Litigation, Vioxx Litigation, and Syngenta AG MIR 162 Corn Litigation. In this week's learn more about Chris's journey: Chris is regularly quoted in the New York Times, Wall St Journal, Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, AP, Bloomberg, Reuters, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, CNN, and ESPN. Whether working on a class action involving thousands of people against a multinational conglomerate or an individual case protecting one client's rights, Chris fights with the same passion and conviction. Chloé Valdary shares the ancient Stoic principle that can defeat modern despair. It can be difficult to process sadness. People often try to numb it, avoid it, or deny that they're even experiencing it, instead of better understanding and working through the emotion. The Stoics offer a more head-on approach. This school of philosophy is often falsely associated with the suppression of emotions. But it's more accurate to say that the Stoics were interested in how people can respond virtuously to life's trials and tragedies. The answer, according to general Stoic thought, is that we shouldn't deny emotions or the things that make us feel pain or sadness, but rather strive to accept that which we cannot control and do our best to process our emotions in a way that puts us on a productive path forward. As Chloé Valdary, @cvaldary — an American writer and founder of the conflict-resolution program Theory of Enchantment — explains in this Big Think interview, Stoicism not only can help us work through sadness as individuals, but it can also teach us to recognize the many forms that suffering can take in others. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 24.8 points this morning from yesterday's close, at 15,849, on turnover of NT$2.66 billion N-T. The Tai-Ex gained had gained ground on Thursday following a rally on Wall Street overnight as investor concerns over the health of America's banking sector subsided. However, turnover for the session fell below the 190-billion N-T mark and that decline is being attributed to (歸因於) a large number of investors opting to stay on the sidelines ahead of the five-day long weekend. Cabinet Approves Plan to Lower Preschool Teacher-Student Ratio The Cabinet has approved a proposal to gradually lower the teacher-student ratio in preschools and provide funding incentives. The proposal was put forward by the Ministry of Education calls for all public preschools that cater to (迎合) children between the ages of three and six will be required to aim for a 1-12 teacher-student ratio beginning in August of this year. The ratio of 15 to 1 has remained unchanged since 1981 when it was implemented under the now defunct (不復存在) Kindergarten Education Act. The new policy will not be mandatory in private preschools. AIT Head Lauds Taiwan as Global Partner American Institute in Taiwan Chair Laura Rosenberger is lauding Taiwan as being a "global partner" and says the U-S is working with all of its partners, including Taiwan, to uphold (捍衛) key principles of democracy. Rosenberger made the comments as she hosted President Tsai Ing-wen at a banquet in New York. During the event, Rosenberger hailed Taiwanese businesses and civic leaders in the United States - describing them as being critical to the "diversity and richness of American society and the stability of unofficial Taiwan-US relations." The A-I-T chair also stressed that Washington will work to ensure Taiwan's meaningful participation in international forums. UK to Join CPTPP The U.K. has agreed to join an Asia-Pacific trade pact that includes Japan, Mexico and Australia. Britain says it's the biggest new trade deal it has struck since leaving the European Union three years ago. The agreement comes after almost two years of negotiations to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP. The government says membership will reduce tariffs on British dairy products and other goods and remove red tape for U.K. services. It's estimated it will boost the U.K. economy by 1.8 billion pounds ($2.2 billion) “in the long run.” Critics say the deal is insignificant (微不足道) compared to Britain's trade with its neighbors in the EU. Wall St Journal reporter detained in Russian on espionage charges A US reporter working for the Wall St Journal has been detained by Russian authorities on espionage (間諜活動) charges. The Federal Security Service arrested Evan Gershkovich in the eastern city of Yekaterinburg. Jackie Quinn reports. Blog post A culture of learning makes the difference, not "low inventory" Last year, I wrote a post that criticized those, including the Wall St Journal, who claimed that Toyota was "abandoning" the Toyota Production System or that strategically adding some inventory meant they were moving away from "Just in Time" approaches: Toyota leaders, including my friend Jamie Bonini, were quoted in this new article by HBS professor Willy Shih in HBR: What Really Makes Toyota's Production System Resilient Did TPS hurt Toyota during the pandemic? Checkout: Raising Capital Without Rejection Full-Day Workshop (Online): https://investorattractionworkshop.com/ What you'll learn in just 18 minutes from today's episode: Find out that one valuable tip on dialing into the emotional attributes that make you unique and help differentiate you from the rest Discover helpful resources that make an excellent place to start thinking about branding yourself Learn how personal branding works for a real estate investor for people to choose to work with you over many others who offer the same thing Resources/Links: Website: https://reibranded.com/ Topics Covered: 00:46 - Defining branding 01:32 - Branding from a real estate investor's point of view 04:47 - Why it's hard to distinguish one's strength 05:31 - Finding that one attribute that sets you apart from the crowd 10:12 - How branding works for real estate investors who do the same things as the others 13:06 - Successful branding case study 16:05 - Getting yourself started on the whole branding idea as a real estate investor Key Takeaways: "What the listener needs to get clear on is, what are the emotional attributes underneath that differentiate you from somebody else? - Paul Copcutt "You don't need to be funny or quirky to be a good flipper. But it differentiates you. If the listener thinks about any brand they know or love, chances are, it's not about the product or service they're buying. It's the emotional connection they've made to that brand." - Paul Copcutt "Your emotional attributes will be why somebody wants to hire you, work with you, or loan new investment money versus somebody else because they've made that emotional connection. And equally, sometimes, that emotional connection is not there, and it's not a good fit. And it's equally good to know that and go away from the project because it will be a nightmare." - Paul Copcutt "If you can get very clear about what it is you do, who you do it for, and why you're different, hopefully in 10 to 12 words, that's easy for somebody to remember." - Paul Copcutt Connect with Paul Copcutt: Website: https://reibranded.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulcopcutt/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/paulcopcutt/ Connect with Dave Dubeau: Podcast: http://www.propertyprofitspodcast.com/ Website: https://davedubeau.com/home Investor Attraction Workshop: http://www.investorattractionworkshop.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedavedubeau LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/davedubeau
Discrimination has been a constant challenge that has obstructed growth all over the world and yet, the basis of discrimination, the prejudice that drives it in and of itself is never reason enough to dismiss or denigrate someone. This episode is my attempt to understand what drives discrimination and how women can respond to gender discrimination at work in a way that's compassionate, intelligent, and doesn't jeopardise their growth. Chloe Valdary, the creator of The Theory of Enchantment, shares ideas and techniques that have the power to transform how we see ourselves and then how we in turn interpret the world around us, including how we respond to moments of injustice and discriminatory actions. After spending a year as a Bartley fellow at the Wall Street Journal, Chloé Valdary developed The Theory of Enchantment, an innovative framework for compassionate antiracism that combines social emotional learning (SEL), character development, and interpersonal growth as tools for leadership development in the boardroom and beyond. Chloé has trained around the world. Her clients have included high school and college students, government agencies, business teams, + many more. She has also lectured in universities across America, and her work has been covered in Psychology Today Magazine and her writings have appeared in the New York Times and the Wall St Journal.
