The club season might be over in 42 UEFA countries, but co-hosts Lee Wingate and Paul Watson have plenty of stand-out international headlines to work their way through on the latest episode of The Sweeper, which was edited by Tom Middler. The first segment of the pod is dedicated to Lee's trip to see San Marino, who extended their unwanted world-record winless run to 130 games against Kazakhstan in Parma - despite giving a pretty impressive account of themselves in the first half. The next segment covers the other major talking points from the international period, including Moldova's stunning comeback win against Poland, Luxembourg's first back-to-back EURO qualifying victories since 1995 & a series of stunning records set by Andorran legend Ildefons Lima. Next up is our main story for this episode, the treble achieved by OPBG in the Vatican, before we turn our attentions to the man on Interpol's wanted list who submitted takeover bids in Belgium and St. Kitts & Nevis' qualification for the Gold Cup. There's also an honourable mention for Father Ted, Craig Bellamy and the Eurovision Song Contest. RUNNING ORDER PART 1 - Lee's visit to Parma to see San Marino & the Kazakh fan that travelled 5,000km only to be denied entry (00:44) PART 2 - The big headlines from the international period: Moldova's success, Luxembourg's upturn & Ildefons Lima's records (17:46) PART 3 - A Vatican treble for the Children's Hospice, a suspicious takeover attempt or four in Belgium & St. Kitts & Nevis at the Gold Cup (32:37)

On this episode: Norman's 13, rubrics, and 100 FKTs. We're talking with Jason Hardrath, badass hiker, running, and collector of FKTs. Jason was a world-class triathlete until he went through the windshield in a car accident. Doctors said he'd have to leave that part of his life behind, and front that point, he was determined to come back. During his recovery he got to the point where he could hike. From hiking, he started peak-bagging. And soon, he was doing more technical climbs that required acquiring new skills. Since then, he's gone on to accumulate 115 (and counting) historical fastest known time (FKT) records. Jason's story is an incredible inspirational tale of rehabilitation, grit and determination. We talk about the experience of some of his FKTs, the missed FKTs, and inspiring his students (he's an elementary phys-ed teacher when he's not collecting FKTs). PLUS… we learn about the process behind the creation of the film, Journey to 100, documenting his FKT on the Bulger 100. Tonight's Jazz Feature is all about pianist Sonny Clark. Sonny was only 31 when he passed away, a victim of drugs. However he left a wonderful legacy of recordings as a leader and sideman in his short life. Never a virtuoso or a technical wizard but an extremely distinctive pianist who played long beautiful lines and when playing with horns was a master accompanist. This album, recorded when he was 28 displays his talents as a player and composer. All eight pieces are Sonny's and this once in a lifetime trio was augmented by the great George Duvivier on bass and drum pioneer Max Roach. They bring out the best in Sonny. The album was recorded for Time Records on January 5&6,1960. It displays Sonny at his very best and it's tonight's Jazz Feature. Check it out!

Gary Rabine, gubernatorial candidate for Illinois, discusses the hypocrisy of the left in not having to experience the rise in crimes across the country, calling it “far left wing mentality”, which they call for policies that are increasing crime throughout the country but have “five to ten security people around them everywhere they go”. Rabine comments that that the mayor of Chicago is the face of this crime wave, which is political in nature. Saying that, “a real leaders don't sleep well as people are being murdered at all time records” and the Illinois Governor and Chicago Mayor do.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It seems like nearly every major ska record these days has been released by Bad Time Records. What's going on? Today on the 1st episode of the 2nd season of In Defense of Ska, we bring on the owner of Bad Time Records himself, Mike Sosinski. He explains it all! There's a lot to the story of Bad Time Records. It starts with Mike's band, Kill Lincoln, which started in Washington DC a little over a decade ago. Mike tells us how his scrappy ska-punk band started at a time when no one cared about the genre, to him starting his own record label—that quite a few people cared about! And we walk through the Bad Time Records catalog and see how Mike created steady growth and a revived interest in ska-punk. It didn't hurt that Brooklyn Vegan took an interest in the genre in 2020 and gave Bad Time a lot of much-deserved attention. So, listen as we discuss, at length, a whole bunch of great BTR bands: Catbite, We Are The Union, Bad Operation, Best of the World, Kill Lincoln, and others. Hopefully, you'll leave with a better understanding of how the ska-punk scene grew in the last couple of years. If you sign up for the In Defense of Ska Patreon, you have access to behind the scenes commentary for each new episode. You will gain access to the official In Defense of Ska community discord There will also be monthly bonus episodes, featuring topics outside of the usual show format.www.patreon.com/indefenseofska

Live from the no panic zone—I'm Steve Gruber—I am America's Voice— I am Fierce and Fearless— I am here to tell the truth—I mean lets be honest—somebody has to—And—I'm the guy— Here are three big Things you need to know right now— ONE— The New Energy Crisis is here—and even though most Americans cannot afford an electric car—the Biden Administration laughs—and says sure you can— TWO— Millions of Americans are saying see you later when companies demand they get the vaccine— in fact it is setting all time records— THREE— and with the emergence of Omicron—the latest variant sending the new world order into a panic—that demands compliance—it is also threatening to derail an economy that is seemingly fragile worldwide— It seems like there are several components of the great re-set that are being pursued all at the same time—Covid fear is used to whip up Climate Change fear that is used to promote tax hikes and government crackdowns on freedom that are all happening simultaneously— And while that is going on—we are seeing crime surge—in all sorts of ways—from smash and grabs from high end retailers to 100,000 people dead from illegal drugs flowing over the southern border— It seems there are a lot of problems that are backing up—and getting piled on us at the same time—
Welcome to Ska Boom Interviews, which is the audio companion to my book Ska Boom: An American Ska & Reggae Oral History now available from DiWulf Publishing and Amazon. In this episode, I'm speaking with Mike Sosinski -- who is the guitarist and lead singer of ska punk band Kill Lincoln and also the head honcho of Bad Time Records, a ska punk label based in Alameda, California. Bands on the Bad Time label include many of the bands now making waves in the American ska and ska punk scene and beyond including Kill Lincoln, We Are The Union, Catbite, Bad Operation, Skatune Network, Omnigone and more. We had a far ranging conversation that touched on Mike's ska "lightning bolt" moment, what is was like to grow up in the New Jersey ska scene of the early 2000's, the origin of the Kill Lincoln name and why ska punk is polarizing to parts of the ska community and why the success of the diverse range of bands on the Bad Time label is good for everyone in ska. He also shares what its like to run a DIY record label and market new ska punk music. Please note: The music clips included in this podcast fall under the “Fair Use Doctrine” as defined by Section 107 of the Copyright Act. The law allows for use of music clips for purposes of criticism, comment, and news reporting.

The result is the soon to be released Jail Time Records Vol.1. Get in touch: outlook@bbc.com Picture: Music producer Vidou H Credit: Dione Roach

Happy Thanksgiving Closing Time fans! We are thankful for each and every one of you (lame). In all seriousness, everyone has something to be thankful for. Sully is thankful for a BOGO deal from a local pizza chain that supplied him with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a long weekend alone. Milan is thankful to be back under Sully’s wing, who always laughs at all his jokes and never ever finds him annoying in any way whatsoever (yeah right). This episode we are back on our horse shit. We rant about how white people’s music has no rhythm but also describe the many situations where some emo-centric jams might actually come in handy. We also talk about the phrase “I need to decompress,” lemony scented bubble baths, group chats that suck and Lebron’s constant need for attention. Thanks for listening Closing Time Nation! Dan Schneier and Nick Falato provide key takeaways and tackle all of the story-lines from the Giants' Week 15 win over the Redskins as Daniel Jones makes both Giants franchise and NFL history with his statistically dominant performance.
Ok, so Bad Time Records is a newer label, but I didn't want to discount them. They are the ska/punk label to be watching! Now, yes, the catalog isn't that big yet, but it's getting there and with quality! I'm doing something I don't normally do, and that's including compilation tracks from the same compilation. I've tried to avoid this, but damn if "the Shape of Ska Punk to Come: Volume 1" isn't a killer comp, and the three songs included here are only scratching the surface of that awesomeness! They've done a few rereleases/first time on vinyl, so that's why you see some records that are older than 2019 on here. It looks like they have some big plans for 2020 and I couldn't be more onboard. If you have somehow missed these bands or Bad Time Records before, now you can safely be in the know with this episode an await their every release along with me! 00:00 - J. The Dirty Ducks project was born in 2011, a collaboration featuring two friends from Modena, Italy. Alex Ratti and Federico Gualdi, always united by their passion for DJing and music production, started working together on new tracks that drew the attention of many important DJs and producers. One of their first singles, “Titan”, was released on well-known Italian label Time Records and played live for the first time by Michael Calfan in his first appearance on the Tomorrowland main stage. In the meantime, they remained hard at work, improving their production and DJ skills by playing in some of the most famous clubs in Italy. Their DJ sets are dynamic and energetic, ranging between different musical genres while maintaining coherence. In 2014, they were chosen to remix the iconic track "Space" by Micha Moor, and their track was released on Scream and Shout to lots of support and positive feedback. In 2015, they released an "unofficial" remix of Major Lazer's hit "Lean On”, teaming up with Italian producers Merk & Kremont. It quickly became one of the most lauded remixes in the genre, played and supported by Diplo himself. The turning point for Dirty Ducks came in 2017, when Dutch superstar Afrojack asked them to officially remix his platinum single "Used To Have It All". They also signed their collaboration with the Dutch DJ Charlie Ray "Karma" to his label Wall Recordings, reaching the Beatport Electro House Top 10 in less than a week. Their constant will to prove themselves, as well as their commitment and determination to make quality music, makes Dirty Ducks one of the most promising projects in the EDM world. ------------------ Tracklist: 1. Definitely a name for the future, VINAI is only making bigger waves these days. Born in Brescia the two brothers Alessandro (1990) and Andrea (1994) initially work on their own music. In 2011 they join forces and make their way into the studio, two years later resulting in their signing with Time Records to release the bomb track ‘Hands Up' which receives support from top international artists like Tiësto, Showtek, DVBBS, MAKJ, Nari & Milani, Deorro, Quintino, Deniz Koyu and Danny Avila. What follows is their remix for Don Diablo, the Axtone release called ‘Starlight' which is played by DJs like Sander Van Doorn, Pete Tong, MAKJ & La Fuente. After a series of releases and collabs, VINAI joins world renowned Dutch label Spinnin' Records in 2014 and quickly comes up with its greatest hit up till then, the collab with Canadian duo DVBBS titled ‘RAVEOLOGY'. Originally surfacing as a ‘track ID' the song generates a huge amount of hype before being revealed a DVBBS and VINAI production. From then, ‘RAVEOLOGY' grows into a solid anthem for the worldwide dance generation, getting huge feedback from the world's biggest DJs including Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Hardwell, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Diplo, Showtek, W&W, Sander Van Doorn, R3hab, NERVO, Ummet Ozcan and many more. The full version of ‘RAVEOLOGY' is premiered on Billboard, the world's biggest music website and in less than one week reaches #1 of the main Beatport chart. After this massive club hit, VINAI releases ‘Bounce Generation' together with TJR. It's the most played track during WMC and Ultra Music festival and reaches the number 1 position on Beatport after five days from release, keeping that spot for 14 days in a row! Due to a lot of radio support and promotion, ‘Bounce Generation' exposes VINAI all over the world. So, 2014 is the year VINAI turns into a global festival favourite. During the summer the brothers release ‘How We Party' together with Dutch DJ R3hab, premiered live during Tomorrowland when VINAI joins R3hab on the mainstage performing a back2back DJ set. Six days after release ‘How We Party' reaches the number 1 position on Beatport, completing an incredible record: three number 1 spots on Beatport in less than eight months. Be sure, VINAI is on its way. Protagonists of an Italian wave of big room house, gaining more strength by day, the brothers make their DJ Mag Top 100 debut by the end of 2014. After that it's their remix of the R3hab & Trevor Guthrie hit ‘Soundwave' that gathers attention. As if they want to finish the year in style, the future only promising more to come. A.Paul (POR) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 73 pt.5 3RD ANNIVERSARY! Bio: A.Paul was born in Lisbon, Portugal in November 1971, and his career started in 1986, although his first contact with music was made at a very early stage, mainly through the hands of his older sister that would regularly listen to disco, funk, and electro sounds in the 70′s. From a music passionate mind, to a national celebrity, A.Paul is today one of the key players of the electronic music scene on a worldwide scale, both as a DJ and as a Producer. His taste, technique and originality made him earn the respect from his peers and most of all the love and devotion from his fans. After the first years of musical discovery, his talent start to blossom when he was 13, despite living in a country where only a small percentage of people would listen to dance music, he always knew that these infectious rhythms would be on his path. After buying his first decks and mixer, including a couple of years of bedroom practice, he organized a few parties himself and later acquired his first residencies in clubs, through the hand of J.Daniel, who was one of the most respected Portuguese DJs in the 90′s. He was the owner of Question of Time Records, a vanguard record shop and record label, where A.Paul would later release his first record “Juice” a remarkable masterpiece that was played by many top DJs worldwide and licensed to various labels and compilations. He was also invited to be part of the Climacz project, the first after-hours club in Portugal, which was one of the first milestones of his career. The amazing spirit this venue brought to the Portuguese scene is still remembered with great joy and nostalgia by A.Paul himself. At some point he felt the need to move on and search for new challenges. In 1996, he became part of the Illegal Records project as a techno import manager, was invited to be resident of the best club at that time Kremlin, and later founded his first labels, Squeeze Records and Onh.Cet, which were two relevant projects that helped define and polish his sound. By then he was also already playing quite a lot as freelancer, in a growing market. Portugal was at its peak, in terms of electronic music popularity and A.Paul was playing at one point every weekend on different parts of the country. It was inevitable that he would decide to stick to this option for his career, as opposed to be resident in a club, where he would be more limited in terms of music taste. In 1997 he joins the X-Club, the most important DJ Agency and party organizer in Portugal. All the top cats were signed to X-Club, and so was A.Paul, first as a supporting artist, and later part of the agency’s top artists too. This period was very important for A.Paul, and his growth was remarkable, because he had the chance to meet and play with all the major techno and house artists in the world. Other projects developed by A.Paul at that time include sound engineering, journalism and also graphic and web design, activities that would become also important on his next projects. A.Paul was voted best Portuguese techno DJ in 2000, 2001, and 2002 by the readers of Dance Club, the main electronic music media vehicle in Portugal. A.Paul has never stopped investing and supporting the electronic music community particularly in techno. This is when A.Paul decides to start exploring the international market, due to the changes in the Portuguese scene.1994 to 2000 was monumental time after suffering from the huge decline in quality and quantity of events and musical culture. From the “Paradise Called Portugal” coined years before by international media, Portugal was now a place with a stagnated scene, and techno was probably the first genre to suffer. It was time for change, this crisis lead him to invest his time in a music production career, that was quiet for a few years due to the higher demand for DJ previously. In 2001 he opened Genesis record shop. Later in 2007 A.Paul was co-owner of MPC Vinyl Distribution, with his long-time friends Cisco Ferreira (The Advent) and Michaelangelo, where he also released on his other sub -labels The Light, Parallel 125, Dirty Ego, LK and Xtractz. In In 2012 A.Paul’s most renowned & most successful project to date is Naked Lunch Records which was created back in 2005 really began to really take mold into one of the driving forces in the techno scene. Naked Lunch Podcast, a weekly podcast, which is a careful balance of top quality underground DJs and the game changers in the techno scene. Fast forward to 2013, this marked a new monumental moment in A.Paul’s career as a promoter, by the end of the year he had 5 success events under his belt! With the success of the highly acclaimed Naked Lunch Nights in Portugal, its natural step would be to take his events international for 2014, alongside the grand opening of the much anticipated Naked Lunch Agency, the missing puzzle piece to complete his techno vision & one day his legacy. A.Paul has released over 100 vinyl records, several mixed CD compilations released in amazing labels like; Kombination Research, Synewave, Planet Rhyhtm, Italo Business, Pure Sonik, Theory, Mastertraxx, Beat Disaster, Yin Yang, Impact Mechanics, and has remixed artists such as The Advent, Ben Sims, Eric Sneo, Angel Alanis, Damon Wild, DJ T-1000, Virgil Enzinger, Robert Armani, Dave The Drummer, Dj Preach, Mike Humphries, Spiros Kaloumenos, Torsten Kanzler, Bas Mooy, Housemaster Boyz and many more. Besides his sound of hard, funky, deep bass lines he is renowned for, he has also been known productions in tech- house, minimal and experimental sounds, under several aliases like Loudon Kleer, Luther Miek, Beat Therapy and LK. and last but not least, he is also known for his co-productions with artists like The Advent, Industrialyzer, Michaelangelo, DJ Slot among others. His unique sound, taste, and technique, granted him a position on some of the best mega events like; Awakenings, Chateau Techno, TGV (The Netherlands), Evolve (Canada), Nature One, Syndicate, Ruhr in Love (Germany), Rock in Rio (Portugal), Technolandia (Portugal), Aquasella, (Spain), Liberty White (Belgium), Decibel (Holland), Global Vision Festival (France) & Apokalypsa (Czech Republic). A.Paul (POR) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 34 Pt. 2 Bio: A.Paul was born in Lisbon, Portugal in November 1971, and his career started in 1986, although his first contact with music was made at a very early stage, mainly through the hands of his older sister that would regularly listen to disco, funk, and electro sounds in the 70's. After buying his first decks and mixer, including a couple of years of bedroom practice, he organized a few parties himself and later acquired his first residencies in clubs, through the hand of J.Daniel, who was one of the most respected Portuguese DJs in the 90's. He was the owner of Question of Time Records, a vanguard record shop and record label, where A.Paul would later release his first record "Juice" a remarkable masterpiece that was played by many top DJs worldwide and licensed to various labels and compilations. By then he was also already playing quite a lot as free lancer, in a growing market. Portugal was at its peak, in terms of electronic music popularity and A.Paul was playing at one point every weekend on different parts of the country. It was inevitable that he would decide to stick to this option for his career, as opposed to be resident in a club, where he would be more limited in terms of music taste.E-mailArtist NameBeatport URLWebsiteArtist Bio In 1997 he joins the X-Club, the most important DJ Agency and party organizer in Portugal. All the top cats were signed to X-Club, and so was A.Paul, first as a supporting artist, and later part of the agency's top artists too. This period was very important for A.Paul, and his growth was remarkable, because he had the chance to meet and play with all the major techno and house artists in the world. Other projects developed by A.Paul at that time include sound engineering, journalism and also graphic and web design, activities that would become also important on his next projects.A.Paul was voted best Portuguese techno DJ in 2000, 2001, and 2002 by the readers of Dance Club, the main electronic music media vehicle in Portugal. From the "Paradise Called Portugal" coined years before by international media, Portugal was now a place with a stagnated scene, and techno was probably the first genre to suffer. It was time for change, this crisis lead him to invest his time in a music production career, that was quiet for a few years due to the higher demand for DJ previously. In 2001 he opened Genesis record shop, but it would be a few years later that he created his most successful project to date, Naked Lunch Records which is one of the quality techno labels in the world at the moment. He is also co-owner of MPC Vinyl Distribution, with his long time friends Cisco Ferreira (The Advent) and Michaelangelo, where he also released on his other sister labels The Light, Parallel 125, Dirty Ego, LK and Xtractz. The last 5 years were indeed the most prolific and successful for career including constant studio and DJ activity. A.Paul has released over 100 vinyl records, several mixed CD compilations released in amazing labels like; Kombination Research, Synewave, Planet Rhyhtm, Italo Business, Pure Sonik, Theory, Mastertraxx, Beat Disaster, Yin Yang, Impact Mechanics, and has remixed artists such as The Advent, Ben Sims, Eric Sneo, Angel Alanis, Damon Wild, DJ T-1000, Virgil Enzinger, Robert Armani, Dave The Drummer, Dj Preach, Mike Humphries, Spiros Kaloumenos, Torsten Kanzler, Bas Mooy, Housemaster Boyz and many more.Besides his sound of hard, funky, deep bass lines being the gin and juice of techno he is renowned for, he has also been known productions in techouse, minimal and experimental sounds, under several aliases like Loudon Kleer, Luther Miek, Beat Therapy and LK. and last but not least, he is also known for his co-productions with artists like The Advent, Industrialyzer, Michaelangelo, DJ Slot among others.A.Paul is today one of the most remarkable techno artists in the planet, and his live performance, tracks and sets are acclaimed by a growing number of fans. He has played in events such as Awakenings (Holland), Rock in Rio (Lisbon), Nature One (Germany), Evolve (Canada), Liberty White (Belgium), Decibel (Holand), PACT (Holland), Boomerang (Slovakia), Aquasella (Spain), La Nuit Rouge (France) and in the best european clubs like Tresor (Germany), Fabrik (Spain), Row 14 (Spain), Moog (Spain), U60311 (Germany), Ostgut (Germany), Palazzo (Germany), Poema (Holland), Panama (Holland), Macumba (Spain), Locomia (Portugal), Kadoc (Portugal) and Rocks (Portugal)... A double Feature tonight. We are celebrating what would be tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine's 76th birthday, He died in September of 2000 of a stroke. He was born in Pittsburg on April 5,1934. The first part of the Feature will be the title selection from Max Roach's album done in Paris in 1960 called "Parisian Sketches". It was in Roach's band that Stanley and his older brother Tommy, a fine trumpet player, were introduced to the Jazz world so it's fitting that we play this piece. Stanley and Tommy along with Roach, trombonist Julian Priester and bassist Bobby Boswell are the band. We follow with what was Stanley's debut album under his own name done in January of 1960 for the small independent label, Time Records. Max Roach set this date up for Stanley and he, of course plays drums on this along with the great bassist George Duvivier and two wonderful pianists; Tommy Flanagan on four tunes and the legendary Sonny Clark on three. Stanley displays his big sound and unique phrasing here. One can hear the great history of the tenor saxophone in his playing but it is decidedly modern. Stanley uses blues inflections in everything he plays which adds to his appeal. This is his debut album and right from the start you know that he was going to have a great career in Jazz and he did! Seven tunes are heard here and five are by Stanley. The ballad is the beautiful Cahn/Styne tune "Time After Time" and one appealing tune by 'Wild Bill' Strethan Davis called "Stolen Sweets". Enjoy Stanley's first and auspicious debut.
