The Oilers return home from a four-game road trip tonight and begin a two-game set against the Toronto Maple Leafs. These two teams split their first two games against each other and since that point, the Oilers are 1-1-0 while the Leafs are 2-0-0 after sweeping their set against the Calgary Flames. At some point, the Oilers need to start winning consecutive games and if they can find a way to do it this week against the Leafs, it would give both the team and the fan base a much-needed boost. Despite losing their second game against the Leafs last week, I actually thought the Oilers played better in the game they lost. Granted, Toronto didn't have Auston Matthews in the lineup for the second game and he'll be back tonight, but the Oilers should be confident in their ability to get two points tonight.

David Ayres, the Toronto zamboni driver who was called up to play goalie in an NHL game against the Leafs this past weekend, made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Clinton's Tavern staff are speaking out after the sudden closure, and are holding out hope for a miracle investor. Locations were announced for ten new legal weed stores that will open across the GTA. Plus, Scarlet Ibis is a Toronto staple for Guyanese cuisine.

We sat down to share our initial thoughts on the Leafs coaching change. No beer. Just hard hitting analysis. 

On EP74 we were super fortunate to catch up with Talon Jenkins who gave us outstanding insight on new Leafs back up Kasimir Kaskisou. We briefly touched on some of the Leafs current challenges and shared an Amber Ale with Ginger and Lime from Foamer Folly courtesy Liquor Planet. 

Episode 46 - You People is one for the record books. The boys finally get to give their takes on the dismissal of Don Cherry, after several days to think on it. We open up with some great throwback audio clips of Don just being Don, and then we get to discuss the whole thing, including some interesting backlash on social media. After that shitshow, we are doing Don a real solid by honouring some former players that had an impact in serving their country. Some really interesting facts about Conn Smythe and Hober Baker, so don’t miss out on that. With the rapid increase of technology, cyber-bullying has grown into a national wide issue. Social network sites are where cyber-bullying is produced but just like these sites can be used for harm, they can also be used for good. This is where #tweetsweet comes in. By adding this hashtag to a positive tweet, picture, comment etc. said to someone else or about someone else on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook it will send out positive content out into the online community. This hashtag will help follow this movement and at random one lucky user will be rewarded with a pair of Toronto Maple Leaf tickets to a home game at the Air Canada Centre. Craig Patrick (born May 20, 1946) is an American former hockey player, coach and general manager, the son of Lynn Patrick and the grandson of Lester Patrick. During the 1980 Winter Olympics, Patrick was the Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach under Herb Brooks for the United States men’s national ice hockey team, which won the gold medal and defeated the Soviet Union in the “Miracle on Ice“. From 1989 to 2006, Patrick was the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins where he oversaw back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992, as well as the drafting and signing of some players that would later win a Stanley Cup title for the Penguins in 2009. He was the man that drafted Jaromir Jagr, Marc-André Fleury, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, otherwise known as “Sid the Kid”!!! And Craig joins Chuck Bastie and Todd Miller for a discussion of all things hockey, including his stint as Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach under Herb Brooks for the United States men’s national ice hockey team that won Gold at the 1980 Olympics and became known as the “Miracle On Ice”. And Todd suggests the Toronto Maple Leafs might need a head coach ;-) Craig was also the general manager for the 2002 US Olympic team, also coached by Brooks, which won the silver medal – the first US hockey medal since the 1980 team. This tournament was further notable as it was largely the same roster that underperformed in the 1998 Olympics, yet aging players like Mike Richter and Phil Housley performed well beyond expectations and were named to the 2002 tournament all-star team. Michael Eruzione was born on October 25, 1954, to an Italian-American family in Winthrop, Massachusetts. He learned to play hockey for Youth Hockey of Winthrop as part of the GBYHL (Greater Boston Youth Hockey League). He graduated from Winthrop Senior High School in 1972, where he was captain of the varsity hockey team during his senior year. He then spent a year at Berwick Academy to fine-tune his hockey skills in a New England Prep environment. After leaving Berwick, Eruzione attended Boston University. He had initially opted for another school, but he switched to Boston after his coach forgot his name.[1] While at Boston, he averaged over twenty goals a season for four years. BU coach Jack Parker called Eruzione "Pete Rose on skates".[3] Eruzione also played for Team USA at the 1975 and 1976 Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments. He then spent two seasons with the Toledo Goaldiggers of the International Hockey League,[4] being named the Rookie of the Year in 1978 and leading the team to the Turner Cup championship in that year. After his second year in Toledo, Eruzione, who played Forward, was named the Captain of the 1980 Olympic hockey team, scoring the winning goal against the Soviets and helping the Americans win the gold medal against Finland.[1] Eruzione's winning goal against the Soviet Union has become one of the most played highlights in American sports, and was voted the greatest highlight of all time by ESPN viewers in March 2008. Paul Garnet Henderson CM OOnt (born January 28, 1943) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. A left winger, Henderson played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Flames and five in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Toronto Toros and Birmingham Bulls. He played over 1,000 games between the two major leagues, scoring 376 goals and 758 points. Henderson played in two NHL All-Star Games and was a member of the Memorial Cup-winning Hamilton Red Wings team as a junior. And tonight he joins "Chuck's World" to chat about his book, The Goal Of My Life. Henderson is best known for leading Team Canada to victory at the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union. Played during the Cold War, the series was viewed as a battle for both hockey and cultural supremacy. Henderson scored the game-winning goal in the sixth, seventh and eighth games, the last of which has become legendary in Canada and made him a national hero: it was voted the “sports moment of the century” by The Canadian Press and earned him numerous accolades. Henderson has twice been inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame: in 1995 individually and in 2005 along with all players of the Summit Series team. He was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 2013. A born-again Christian, Henderson became a minister, motivational speaker and author following his playing career. He has co-written three books related to hockey or his life. Henderson was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2012 and of the Order of Ontario in 2014. Henderson is also a published author. His autobiography, Shooting for Glory, was released in 1992.[95] With Jim Prime, he co-authored the 2011 book How Hockey Explains Canada, an exploration of the relationship between the sport and Canadian culture.[96] He released a memoir in 2012 called The Goal of My Life with Roger Lajoie.[97] The death of his father due to heart problems at the age of 49 had a lasting effect on Henderson. The fantastic President of the Canadian Centre For Abuse Awareness, Sanderson Layng, joins Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller tonight at 8p EST to discuss all aspects of #bullying, both ‘real’ and cyberbullying. The real costs are astronomical, and the impacts very real, as Sanderson relays one story of a particular family that needed to move from the US to Canada to escape bullying. From the CCAA website: “Over 20 years ago, Ellen Campbell approached Sanderson Layng at a police conference and introduced the concept of a national organization addressing the needs of sexual abuse survivors. At the time, Sanderson was serving as president of the Alliance for a Drug-Free Canada , a national corporately supported charity that focused on issues related to drugs and alcohol in the workplace. Ellen helped Sanderson to understand the relationship between drug abuse and the trauma that comes as a result of childhood sexual abuse. Ellen asked Sanderson to help her create a new organization including incorporation and a Board of Directors. The new organization would be survivor friendly with a mandate to always put survivors first in all planning and programs. Sanderson agreed and became the first Chairman of the Board, a position he was elected to for 12 consecutive years by his fellow Directors. In recognition of his service as Chair of CCAA, Sanderson was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for service to Canadians and Canada. In 1999, when Ken Dryden, president of the Toronto Maple Leafs, needed expert assistance with the sex abuse scandal brought to public attention by Martin Kruze, it was Sanderson who was hired by the Maple Leafs to set up a counselling program to respond to the needs of those survivors. The innovative model adopted for this approach is now a template for other programs working with abuse survivors including CCAA’s work with First Nations survivors of residential school abuse. Sanderson resigned as Chair in 2005 but continued to serve as Past Chair and Executive Vice-Chair on the Board. In May of 2009, the Directors asked Sanderson to work more directly with the organization to look after administration and compliance as well as operations which led to him to serving as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. During this time, Sanderson maintained his own career undertakings as an award winning television producer and he still serves today as the Executive Producer of “Living Clean Living Well”, CCAA’s weekly live television show on the CTS television network. This show is the only one of its kind in Canada dealing with abuse, addictions and mental health issues. In 2012, “Living Clean Living Well” was awarded the Peter Armstrong Award of Excellence for Community Service.
