Former Utah State Volleyball star Kaylie Ray calls in to discuss her testimony in the Arizona Senate Education Committee supporting bill HCR 2003. Ray says the bill would create three sports categories, allow optional co-ed teams, and protect women-only private spaces such as locker rooms and bathrooms. She criticizes State Senator Catherine Miranda's comments during the hearing and argues that allowing men into women's sports and spaces eliminates women's sports and raises safety concerns. Ray says she has received strong public support but little coverage from Arizona media, and she describes her connection with Riley Gaines, who advised her in the past when her Utah State team forfeited against San Jose State over a biological male player. In this episode of the Max Out Mindset Podcast, Dr. Larry Widman and Coach Jess sit down once again with the number one beach volleyball team in the world, Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss Cruz, for an honest conversation about growth, pressure, and the mental work behind elite performance. This is the third time Taryn and Kristen have joined the show, and their journey has evolved in powerful ways. After the emotional highs and lows surrounding the Olympic experience, they reflect on what it truly means to grow as athletes and teammates. The conversation dives deep into how elite performers navigate disappointment, rebuild belief, and continue to push forward. Taryn shares the internal work that helped her develop confidence and self-trust, while Kristen talks about the mindset shifts that allowed them to keep improving even while competing at the highest level in the world. You'll hear powerful insights on communication between teammates, handling pressure on the biggest stages, and why vulnerability and honesty are essential for teams that want to sustain success. Taryn also shares how journaling became a critical tool for managing thoughts, building belief, and improving sleep and recovery during tournaments. This episode is packed with practical insight for athletes, coaches, and leaders who want to: • Build real confidence through preparation and self-talk • Communicate honestly with teammates during high-pressure moments • Turn setbacks into growth instead of self-doubt • Train mindset habits like journaling and awareness • Develop trust and resilience within a team Whether you're an athlete chasing your potential, a coach developing a culture, or a leader working through challenges with others, this conversation offers a powerful reminder: Elite performance isn't just about talent. Chris Seilkop is a four-time Paralympian and longtime member of the U.S. men's sitting volleyball team. He reflects on heartbreaking losses, meaningful victories, and the perspective that helped him keep going. My friends, if you've ever faced a setback that made you wonder what comes next, this conversation is for you. You'll leave reminded that life's hardest moments do not get the final word.

David, Ryan, and Tim dive into the never-ending Georgia State basketball coaching drama and ask the question hanging over everything: why is everyone still waiting? Sam joins the crew to talk about some of the top 20 matches during the 10th week of the Men's Collegiate season. Each week, the MIVA seems to have more mayhem as teams jostle for positioning for post-season play. The Waves split with the Bows for an entertaining series, Belmont Abbey and Mt. Olive are vying for the top spot in the Conference Carolinas, while the “Battle for LA” proved that the lone defeated team in the nation can turn it on in crunch time. From there the crew selects their “Ballers of the Week,” and matches they'll be watching in Week 11. We finish the episode with a new favorite segment, “Jay's Quick Hits,” where the coaches answer some interesting topics in Men's Volleyball! Thanks for watching and/or listening! #NCAAMVB
In this episode, I dive into two important trends shaping the game right now. First, I break down the new rules being introduced by FIVB in 2026 and what they could mean for the future of volleyball. I also share some interesting out-of-system trends I've been seeing during the 2026 playoffs. Teams are becoming much more efficient when they're out of system, and we're seeing new setting solutions from both liberos and left sides that are creating more stable and effective offensive options. Key topics discussed: 2026 FIVB rule changes and their potential impact How out-of-system offense continues to evolve New setting strategies from liberos The growing role of left sides in out-of-system setting Tactical trends emerging in the 2026 playoffs How coaches can adapt to these changes in their own programs
After decades of referring politely to what was called the volleyball incident, justice finally set the record straight. It was not an "incident." It was an assault on the volleyball team. For years, euphemisms softened the story. Language blurred responsibility. Memory did the careful tiptoe that institutions often prefer. In this episode, we unpack how the truth was buried in plain sight, and what it means when a long-whispered reality is finally spoken out loud. This is about accountability, about survivors, and about a last minute guilty plea. MJ Carroll is an independent writer and small business owner with nearly four decades of experience in a variety of roles. He began appraising residential real estate at the ripe young age of 22 and worked his way into management roles in the banking world (real estate appraisal departments, of course) before venturing into the big bad world of small business ownership. Along the way, he ended up owning two independent appraisal companies in California and two more in Colorado. Given the nature of the real estate and lending industries, there were times when distractions came into play, and detours were taken. These include forays into the insurance markets (life, health and supplemental), acting (commercial and voice over), fitness (primarily the CrossFIT world) and public speaking (both in the appraisal and fitness arenas). Oh, and let's not forget that he dives in head-first into whatever arena he gets involved in… coaching youth sports? Let's go get national certifications in both coaching AND officiating! … Deciding to get in shape? Hey, let's get Level 1 AND Level 2 CrossFIT trainer certifications as well as multiple specialty certifications! And while we're at it, let's get involved in the behind-the-scenes management of the largest competitions in the world! Sure, I know they don't pay anything, but why not? … High school needs a new stadium announcer? I can talk... Let's do this! And maybe it'll lead somewhere - and it did (MJ was “discovered” for his voice talents and the fun he had on the microphone during a state championship run by the girls soccer team at his daughters' high school, which led to a brief foray into the acting world - but that's a story for another day). These days, MJ stays busy writing, coaching, and leading teams in various endeavors - including teaching and legislative advocacy for the real estate appraisal industry. He and his wife of more than 25 years travel for business AND fun (hopefully more fun than business). Together they have four children and four grandchildren. He still owns one of those appraisal companies and remains active in the day-to-day operation - even running to Breckenridge or Vail to perform residential real estate appraisals… OK, there MIGHT be the occasional day of skiing thrown in there. Tennis has returned to the line-up of activities. Yes, he was a high school tennis phenom back in the day - you wanna check tape? OK, fair enough; he was mediocre at best. Volleyball was more his jam… but that's in the rear-view mirror along with CrossFIT and anything else that could result in a career-ending injury. He'll likely soon stop driving or going out for leisurely walks!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mj_carroll/?hl=enConnect and tag me at:https://www.instagram.com/realangelabradford/You can subscribe to my YouTube Channel herehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDU9L55higX03TQgq1IT_qQFeel free to leave a review on all major platforms to help get the word out and change more lives!

As we kick off the 2026 NCAA Beach season, Sydney Miller of Hawaii jumps on to chat with Rob about the first-ever AVCA Player of the Year Watchlist while breaking down the top-10-ish teams in the AVCA Preseason Poll. Of course we drop a lot of names because that list could have been bigger, but there is such an abundance of talent on teams' rosters-- to a point where some did not get mentioned! CVW BT20 will change format for this season (listen to the episode to find out why), but no matter what we'll have at least Sydney on the show for a chat of the Top 20 Tidbits/Results! Thanks for listening/watching! #NCAABEACH
