Kultur in Studen. In gemütlicher Atmosphäre geniessen wir zu Live-Musik ein «Chäs, Brot, Wy»-Buffet und im Talk mit Stef Gerber erhalten wir Einblick in das Leben von Melanie.Infos.Anmeldung online auf gms-studen.ch oder 032 372 10 22. Key Points, Top Takeaways, and Memorable Quotes“So I'm really thankful that they just kept pushing me through the little things and teaching me all the details and the styles that could come with the game.” 4:00“It was hard, it was hard, to leave a team that you gave everything to, but I knew that there was something more for me out there, and this opportunity came across, and I wanted to take it.” 9:04“Now I just know for the future that I can't let anything pass by without seeing it as an opportunity.” 10:20“We were all very good talkers, but when it came to listening, that was eye-opening kinda to see that even if everyone was very vocal, it's about kind of who can listen too.” 12:21“I feel like if it was supposed to happen, it would've. And for some reason, we have to take a different message from this now, and I hope that even though it wasn't me to be there for the win, I hope it's for the team, later on, they get it for next year, the next two years, next three years, I just hope those girls learned what that feeling felt like, and they just take it and generate more of it for next year.” 15:48“I want to be a coach one day too like I want to coach college, so for some reason, I feel like this happened to be a better mentor to girls to like that this happens to or if they feel like in this situation, I know better things to say or better ways how to act.” 18:59“Making small goals on a daily basis leads to those big goals.” 20:38“Our path is just completely already made, and we're just walking it. So if you walk it the best you can and you're doing that, then you are completing your life, and it's just going to come out in the end, I think.” 21:20“We always do this thing where you say three things to yourself in the morning, and then you say those six things in the afternoon, and repeat nine times at night to try to manifest those moments and put it in the earth and receive it back, so I guess every morning I try to pick what I want to be that day.” 26:20“I think that day for the UCLA matches I said, “I will be humble.” 27:03“If I need to communicate what I need, someone will help me. I just have to be like, have the courage to say it and be confident in what I'm saying and believe what I'm saying for someone to see me as me and help what I wanted and what I needed.” 34:18“The more you get rejected, I guess, the less it hurts.” 36:09“The piece of advice I think would be just really know who you are as a person and whatever you're doing, just make sure that you wholeheartedly love everything that you are doing. If it's volleyball, if it's school, if it's your job, just make sure you love it because if you rely on anybody else to love it for you, or have expectations to do things for anyone else, then I think you will fall short every time. If it's not for you if you're losing the love, it's ok to reconnect with yourself through other things and to find a new love somewhere else or to keep working through it, but just don't force anything.” 52:02 Guest Bio - From Fort Lauderdale, FL! Key Points, Top Takeaways, and Memorable Quotes“I think Russell really taught me how important heart is on the team and really being a family.” 2:51“We want LSU to win. I think understanding and trusting that the coaches are going to put who they think is going to win on the court and respecting that, and I think having relationships with all of the girls outside of the court I think makes that a lot easier. 4:53“Being vulnerable I feel like is honoring your story.” 9:43“I love the saying that every team is meant to function at 100 percent, and 100 percent is each person stepping into their most authentic selves.” 9:50“The biggest thing is we were never allowed to quit anything, except cheerleading..” 13:46“We fell in love with the culture of volleyball before we fell in love with the sport of volleyball.” 21:58“So much of our recovery comes from what we do off to the side. I think really valuing breathwork, valuing how you sleep, evaluating how you eat, those are all recovery methods. ”35:34“How I view rest is that I'm filling up my cup again.” 38:04 37:32-:38:10“You fill up your cup and you don't have to pour out, eventually it will overflow.” 38:11“I think really starting from a base of rest, let me take care of myself, so then I can work hard and then I can work hard from a place of joy, not from a place of having to do that.” 38:35“People are going to be drawn to you who are meant to be led by you.”49:41“You can create a beautiful life and things are still going to be hard.” 50:22“You are so much more than the sport.” 53:43Guest BioKahlee has a quiet strength, self-assurance, and kindness about her that drew me to her story. Guest BioAfter competing both indoor and on the beach for UCLA, Savvy made a huge impression in her first year as a professional in 2021. Even though her athleticism is incredible to watch, her blend of tenacity as an athlete and sensitivity as a human has made her a joy to get to know. Her willingness to be transparent and share her story, which includes an understanding of what it means to live with anxiety, makes her an even more compelling and relatable athlete to watch in the years to come.Key Points, Top Takeaways and Memorable Quotes“I think that their parenting styles are based off how they were raised.” 3:03“I want to be the most flexible partner, not only physically in playing left or right, as a teammate as a partner, emotionally and mentally I want to be able to communicate with them.” 3:53“I play my best when I play with someone that I have good chemistry with, someone that I get along with.” 4:33“If I have good chemistry with someone or the same qualities, and we can have fun off the court, I think that's really huge.” 5:36“You graduate high school and you're like the best on your team or the top whatever on your team. Then you go somewhere like UCLA and you're like I'm gonna go play all the time and I'm gonna dominate, and that's not always the case.” 6:06“I'm a big believer that everything happens for a reason. I made a stupid mistake that I learned from, but if I didn't have those 5 weeks to just go be a freshman and go party and go be dumb and do my thing, I don't know if I would be where I am today.” 7:58“When I'm on the B side my goal was to fire them up and take down the A side.” 9:36“A lot of what I learned at UCLA was it's not always how you imagine it to be, but I wouldn't trade my experience one bit.” 9:54“I learned so much more through those seasons that the team wasn't that great or I had a slump in my game. It was really challenging for me trying to lead a team feeling alone or not feeling like I could be the true full leader that I wanted to be.” 13:00“I think that when people imagine a leader, they imagine the captain of the team and the person who plays all the time, but you can lead by example in the weight room even if you're not playing, you can lead when you're on the bench, you can cheer super loud, you can be supportive.” 14:28“You can still be a leader whether you're a freshman or a fifth year. You can be a leader whether you play or you don't. As long as you're working hard, as long as you can get respect by working hard, showing up on time everyday, and you are being a good person, people will respect you and listen to you no matter what age you are, no matter how talented you are, and I think that people forget that.” 14:50“Don't push your body past it's limits because then you'll be out longer!” 19:16“If I'm watching tv, why am I not on the floor stretching? And that's what I'm continuing to learn.” 22:45“My athleticism will only take me so far. I have to get smarter on and off the court, take care of my body, make sure, do I really need that glass of wine tonight with dinner? No, probably not.” 23:37“When I have a couple beers, I sleep terrible!” 24:03“As long as I surround myself with people who are doing the same thing, which a lot of us are, it's really helpful.” 29:33“If I go to a competition and I'm like this is my job and I need to make money, and I play like that, then I'm not gonna perform. I need to play because I love it.” 30:13“There is more to life than sports and if you're not feeling it, you have to take time to heal. Just as you would take time to heal an injury, you have to take time to heal your mind.” 33:09“Everyone's process is so different. Where I am at 23, hopefully I'm still playing in 10 years or more. I might not be the same person when I'm 33, but at least where I'm at right now, I love the game and I'm doing it because I love it.” 34:47“My favorite thing to hear is ‘I just love how much fun you're having. I loved seeing you smile.'” 36:19“What other sports are there where the pros are on vacation with these random guests?” 39:38“I feel people are going to follow me and support me and like what I'm doing if it's authentic.” 42:45“As long as I have a good attitude and I don't let that get to me and I continue to play because I love it, not because of the certain partner that I want, then it's all going to work out the way it is supposed to.” 44:40“There are days where I get asked to go play with people who are better than me and I'm like I have to go prove myself. But if I wanna actually improve and get better, working on vision stuff, holding on defense, and all these things that I need to do to get better. If I'm working on that stuff, I'm not going to be at my best because I'm going to get worse before I can actually improve at that.” 50:08“It's all finding the balance.” 53:53“You never know who you're going to meet that might help you.” 55:13“If you don't love soccer the way I love volleyball, you shouldn't play in college.” 57:55“Enjoy the process.” 1:06:09“Continuing to remember, you're playing a sport and it's meant to be fun and just keep enjoying the process, keep having fun, and keep being grateful for the opportunities you have. You're healthy. You're able to play beach volleyball, and not many people can say that.” 1:06:25“I am physically and mentally able to go play a sport that I love. I have a healthy family and healthy friends, and I'm living in an amazing place.” 1:06:55“Have fun, enjoy life, it goes by quick.” 1:08:00 Show Notes1:11 - Where do you come from? 3:03 - Parenting Styles3:52 - Being a Positive Partner6:02 - College Career and Highlights6:48 - Freshman Year Suspension Obstacle9:03 - Sophomore Year and My Role9:54 - What I Learned at UCLA10:26 - Senior Year and COVID13:45 - Learning to Lead 15:36 - Pac-12 Pair of the Week Clips17:38 - Back Injury Rehab22:05 - Discipline to be a Good Patient/Next Level Athlete24:00 - Oura Ring and Sleep26:09 - Diet27:04 - Article on Why You Shouldn't Look at Your Phone Before Bed28:30 - How diet is affected by sleep28:55 - How there is a time and a place for things - moderation30:10 - Finding the balance of being 23 and having super high hard goals30:57 - Netflix Tennis Documentary by Marty Fish31:58 - Savvy's struggle with anxiety33:33 - Lifelong Love for the Game37:43 - SOB Volleyball Vacations 39:54 - Volleyball Community in Hermosa Beach, CA41:11 - The Struggle with Social Media43:40 - Points and Partnerships46:35 - AVP Manhattan Open with Zana Muno 48:40 - Expect to Learn50:08 - Invitation to Play Up51:16 - First Generation from NCAA52:58 - Financial Priorities and Balance54:37 - Finding Sponsors and Support57:40 - Siblings 1:01:14 - Rally Highlight in Atlanta1:03:55 - Karaoke nights - Jeff Samuels and Good Directions by Billy Currington1:05:04 - Wrap Up and Thanks1:05:50 - Takeaway for the Younger Generations Links & Where to Find SavvyIG - @savvysimoSouth of the Border Vacations - sobvolleyballvacations.comFeatured Athlete - https://bebetterwithwendyjones.com/featured-athletes/

This is Great British Bosses from Anything but Footy - the series where we profile the men and women responsible for running sport in this country - from grassroots participation to those medal moments at Olympic, Paralympic and elite level. In this episode, recorded remotely from three separate locations, Sue Storey - the CEO of Volleyball England joins us via Zoom from home to discuss how the volleyball community has been coping with lockdown and not being able to play their sport. Volleyball England has run a number of online initiatives during the past few months but is now eagerly awaiting Government advice on how indoor sports can resume playing.Sue only took over at Volleyball England in late 2019 and oversees the disciplines of Indoor Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Sitting Volleyball in the country. Whilst she admits the chances of sending a GB team to take part in the Olympics is a long way off, she highlights the achievements of the Sitting Volleyball team and highlights the involvement of Martine Wright, who lost both her legs in the Aldgate underground explosion, on the 15th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings in London. She also notes that with Beach Volleyball on the programme for the next Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, there is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the sport. Although, she gives us few clues as to where Birmingham will stage the events, other than saying it will be another iconic location! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Nick Buegel and Erich have a conversation about training the mind. In this episode, we go deep on how to train mindfulness. Mindfulness can be interchanged with meditation, but we specifically use the word mindfulness to make it a skill-based practice. We try our best to get very practical from our own lives on how we have used mindfulness. We want to make mindfulness as accessible to as broad an audience as possible. Over the weekend, Erich attended a live training event with Compete to Create. He previously completed the online version of the course called Finding Your Best. What we have spoken of here is directly related to the information he has been exposed to over the last six months. If you want to meet the coaches, he has been able to interact by listening to our episode with Nicole Davis - 2X Olympian for Indoor Volleyball. Meet Selina:Selina is an Olympian, a dual QAS and USA college athlete, an Entrepreneur, Speaker, Youth Leader, and her greatest and latest achievement, a mum. Selina grew up playing a lot of different sports, but found her passion in basketball and volleyball, quickly climbing the ranks, representing Brisbane and Queensland throughout high school for both sports. She ended up with a dual QAS (Queensland Academy of Sport) scholarship for both basketball and volleyball. After high school, Selina was offered a very rare, Dual USA Division 1, five-year Scholarship at Oregon State University, for both basketball and volleyball, which she grabbed with both hands. In 2000, Selina represented Australia at the Olympic Games in Sydney in Indoor Volleyball. And in 2002 she graduated with a Bachelor of Business, as an honours student. But it wasn’t all roses. Her Olympic dream was destroyed the day before the opening ceremony when she sprained her ankle in their very last training session, and was told by doctors she wouldn’t play. But she did, with the help of the late guru, Peter Brock. Selina battled post Olympic depression. And during the 2011 Brisbane floods, she lost her home and everything in it. For the past 10 years Selina has created and founded 9 businesses, some on her own, some with partners. It has been a massive playground of exploration, learnings and new skill sets. Fast forward, and Selina’s passions and projects today lie in helping our youth build the skills to be more resilient, in which she runs her own Youth Leadership Program. Along with helping people leverage their knowledge online via websites and video courses. She is currently a co-director of a movement called BirthTime, educating women about birth and what is really going on in our maternity systems not only in Australia, but around the world. Selina enjoys the freedom her businesses give her to work from home with her 20 month old daughter, Sienna and soon to be baby #2.Contact Selina:Website: selinascoble.comLinkedIn: selinascobleFacebook: selinascobleGo to http://www.bit.ly/thenatandsarahshow to catch this week’s livestream!

Robbie Page is the Co-Founder of Tenzo Tea. While on the hunt for a coffee alternative that had health benefits, he and his best friend Steve O'Dell came across a clean, green, caffeine packed plant called Matcha. Realizing how much it helped them stay focused in their daily lives along with the other 20 or so health benefits, they launched Tenzo Tea with Matcha being the key ingredient. What started as solely an E-Commerce product in July of 2016 has evolved into over 160+ physical locations that continues to grow today. Born and raised in the small town of Victor, New York, Robbie was surrounded by parents who both happen to be doctors along with a brother and sister. Realizing his passion for volleyball at a young age he committed his childhood to becoming the best athlete he could be despite the kids around him stereotyping him for being unathletic and goofy because of his height. By his junior year he was fully committed to UCLA as their #1 Volleyball recruit for the 2010 season standing 7 feet tall. After finishing up school and playing professional Indoor Volleyball in the European circuit for an Italian team, he returned back to the U.S. and the lifestyle he was comfortable with in Southern California. Back in the professional beach leagues he would find himself playing volleyball during the day and working on Tenzo Tea by night to get it off the ground and running. What started as two of them in their apartment has evolved into a team of people based in Santa Monica, CA. In this episode Robbie discusses how volleyball taught him if you work hard consistently at anything you’re bound to get better, you have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, the through of sorrow is about continuing to move forward regardless of how things are going, having an amazing team is key to growth, not reaching his full potential is what scares him the most and why feedback is the breakfast of champions. - You can follow Robbie here: Instagram: @Robbie_Page You can follow Tenzo Tea here: Instagram: @TenzoTea Website: TenzoTea.co Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: @Bobbbaaaay Twitter: @Bobbbaaaay Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) Follow us on Spotify Follow us on Soundcloud Subscribe to iTunes Follow us on Instagram: @PurposeintheYouth
