In today's very exciting episode, we sit down with Shane & Shane, a Christian contemporary music duo, to hear their testimonies of how they came to faith, despite not being raised in Christian homes or growing up as Christians. They also tell us about how they started making worship music together, starting with simply singing the Psalms. We also talk about the power of worship music and its ability to bring us from despair into the joy of the Lord. And Shane & Shane treat us to a brief worship session and devotional, so be sure to stick around until the very end! Text DEVO to 682-318-3835 to receive the Worship Initiative devotional every day!

Christian Alliance For Orphans (CAFO) and The Worship Initiative (TWI) have partnered to write and produce three new worship songs reflecting God's heart for the orphaned and vulnerable. The new songs will debut at the CAFO2024 Summit in Nashville, TN on September 20, 2024. Friday on Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, our guest, Robbie Seay, Executive VP of Leader Development and Content at the Worship Initiative tells us, "For any believer, understanding God as Father can be such a beautiful thing, but also a hard concept for those who don't have an earthly father. For us to look to the Word of God, sing that, and proclaim that, is a powerful thing." CAFO2024 Summit - Resourcing for Worship LeadersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week we turn to one of the first praise hymns in the book of Psalms. The psalmist contemplates humanity both as a child and as a ruler over all the earth, worshipping God's power as creator over all the earth and the one who orchestrates the last born as first below the gods. In this episode, hosts Oren Martin and Caitlin Van Wagoner are joined by two of Watermark's worship leaders, Jon Abel and Davy Flowers, to discuss the importance of corporate worship, what it is, why we do it, and answering some of the most commonly asked questions. Part I: 00:00-02:27 Introduction Part II: 02:28-04:00 What is worship in the context of the church and where do we see it in scripture? Ed. D.A. Carson, Worship by the Book Bob Kauflin, Worship Matters: Leading Others to Encounter the Greatness of God Mike Cosper, Rhythms of Grace: How the Church's Worship Tells the Story of the Gospel Scripture Mentioned: Exodus 15, Revelation 15 Part III: 04:00-06:02 Has congregational singing always been present in the church? David Peterson, Engaging with God: A Biblical Theology of Worship Scripture Mentioned: Ephesians 5, Colossians 3, Revelation 19 Part IV: 06:02-07:36 What makes corporate worship in the local church different from singing Christian music in your home or car? Matt Merker, Corporate Worship: How the Church Gathers as God's People Part V: 07:36-11:32 What are some misconceptions about corporate worship? “Our hearts are like idol factories, seeking things to worship” - John Calvin. “True Christian worship addresses God not just merely as creator and preserver, or as the great Lord of the universe, but as one who is very near kin to us, our Father, beloved of our souls. It is the worship of a child towards a Father, feeling within himself a kinship with the Divine. It is a worship wrought in us by God the Holy Ghost because the Father has sought us out and taught us how to worship Him. It is a worship which is not outward but of the inner man, and occupies not hand, eye, and foot, but heart and soul and spirit. And it is a worship which is not professional and formal, but real, hearty, earnest, and so acceptable before God ” – Charles Spurgeon. Scripture Mentioned: Romans 12:1, Ecclesiastes 3:11, Mark 12:30, Romans 1:21-23. Part VI: 11:32-13:05 When we sing in church, why and to whom are we singing? Part VII: 13:05-20:02 How do you think about the role of a worship leader? Scripture Mentioned: 1 Peter 4:10. Part VIII: 20:02-25:10 How do you choose the songs we sing on a Sunday? Why would you choose to not sing a song? Part IX: 25:10-26:58 Why has Watermark started to produce its own music? Scripture Mentioned: 1 Peter 4:10 Part X: 26:58-30:40 How have your own perspectives on leading worship changed over the years? Part XI: 30:40-36:39 Quick Hits Watermark Music, “As Loud as He Is Worthy (Psalm 47).” The Worship Initiative, “All Sufficient Merit.” Herman Bavinck, Reformed Dogmatics, 4 Volume Set. ALC Recommends: “Christmas with The Worship Initiative” by the Worship Initiative “And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law. Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” - Nehemiah 8:9-10 ESV

In this episode, we welcome Shane Bernard and Shane Everett to the show. They are a Texas-based contemporary worship music duo better known as Shane & Shane. In their 20+ years as a duo, they have been one of the most prolific creators, writers, and recorders of music in the Contemporary Christian Music genre. In this interview, we discuss how they met and decided to make music, how their writing process differs when they are writing original songs versus covering existing songs, why they strive for their songs to be “biblically based, lyrically rich, and sonically engaging”, each of their favorite albums and songs that they have created, their thoughts on why many men hate Christian worship music, their thoughts on the emotionally manipulative nature of many bands and artists in the worship scene, why they started the Worship Initiative to equip musicians with the tools necessary to perform worship songs at a high level, and much more. Also, if you stick with us until the end, the Shanes drop some BIG news about an upcoming project. You won't want to miss it. Let's get into it… Episode notes and links HERE. As children of God, we have been given a new home and a new hope. This week we're going to take time every day to look at what it means to live for heaven. May your heart be set aflame by the joy and purpose of living out God's command to live for heaven. Our Scripture for today comes from Hebrews 12:1-2, and today's worship is Jesus We Love You by The Worship Initiative feat. Trenton Bell. -- Thanks for listening to today's First15 Podcast. My name is Ryn, and I'm a part of the First15 Team. If you haven't downloaded our brand new First15 app, make sure to click the link in today's show notes to check it out! One of the new features that you can enjoy when you download the app is our Guided Prayers. We are adding new prayers to our library every month, so if you need a moment of peace with God, let these prayers be your guide! In today's First15 Podcast we wanted to give you a preview of a new Guided Prayer that I wrote titled, “Brokenness Restored.” There are several places in scripture where God gives His prophets vision to see all that He has in store for his people, and they declare that ancient ruins of His holy city would be rebuilt and the ancient ruins would be restored. It wasn't until I read Isaiah 61 that I was able to see that these declarations weren't merely about a future construction project, but about the restoration of the hearts of the children of God. Isaiah 61:7 says, “Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.” It's easy to look at all that we may have lost in our lives and feel sorry for ourselves, but that isn't the inheritance that God has for us. He understands our pain for all that we've lost, and yet He is the God who stands in the midst of what looks like a desolate wasteland and not only sees its potential, but declares that it will come to pass. I pray this prayer give you the eyes to see what God sees, and the willingness to ask Him for the faith to see it come to pass for His glory and your good.

Today we will take some time for ourselves, something we're often not very good at doing. The reality is God cares deeply for you before you can do anything for him, and he wants that truth to settle deeply into our hearts today. We will be exploring what it means to have vision for ourselves holistically. How do we set ourselves up for success emotionally, physically and spiritually? The truth is you matter, and it's my prayer you are strengthened and encouraged today. Our Scripture for today comes from John 10:10, and today's worship is Famous For by The Worship Initiative. In today’s devotional we’re going to look at the role of encouragement in putting our love into action. In a world that constantly seems to beat us down, we’re in need of some real encouragement. God has an encouraging word to speak to everyone around you. And if we’ll make space to listen, he longs to share that word with us that we might see his kingdom advancing in the heart of another. May God encourage us today, and empower us to encourage another as we make space for his loving presence. Our Scripture for today comes from Hebrews 10:23-25, and today's worship is Catch Me Singing by The Worship Initiative feat. John Marc Kohl. Check out our Worship for the Weekday playlist on Spotify! ________ First15 Worship is here! As believers, we want a real connection with God every day, not just on Sunday. We want the peace and passion that comes from living with God, not for God. But when Monday morning rolls around we’re left thinking: “Now what?” “How do I find and keep a daily connection with my Creator on my own?” At First15, we know that meaningful worship isn’t just for Sunday. Every believer should be able to find a daily connection to God with fresh worship created specifically for their weekday. _____ First15 is a daily devotional written and recorded by Craig Denison.
