Tim Powers was born in Buffalo, New York, on Leap Year Day in 1952, but has lived in southern California since 1959. He graduated from California State University at Fullerton with a BA in English in 1976; the same year saw the publication of his first two novels, The Skies Discrowned and Epitaph in Rust. Tim's subsequent novels are The Drawing of the Dark, The Anubis Gates (winner of the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award and the Prix Apollo), Dinner at Deviant's Palace (winner of the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award), On Stranger Tides (the novel the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, was based on) The Stress of Her Regard, Last Call (winner of the World Fantasy Award), Expiration Date, Earthquake Weather, Declare (winner of the World Fantasy Award) and Three Days to Never. His most recent book is Hide Me Among the Graves. The Manchester Guardian called Powers “the best fantasy writer to appear in decades.” Tim has taught at the Clarion Science Fiction Writers' Workshop at Michigan State University six times and currently teaches the annual Writers of the Future workshop. He has been involved with the Contest since its early years, serving as one of the instructors (along with Algis Budrys and Orson Scott Card) at the very first official WotF workshop in Sag Harbor. He was formally inducted as a judge in 1993. Powers lives with his wife, Serena, in San Bernardino, California. “I think I've been a judge for most of the quarters in the past two decades. This means that several times a year I get a stack of manuscript photocopies via next-day mail, and take a day off from my own writing to read them all and evaluate them; this is no chore, since Dave Wolverton or K.D. Wentworth has already culled them from the total volume of submissions, and invariably there is at least one story that I'm grateful to have a chance to read. I send my verdicts in, and usually I hang on to a couple of the photocopies, just because I want to have the chance to read them again before the actual anthology is published. The stories at this point have no provenance beyond their titles—I don't know the genders or ages or addresses of the writers; and not all of them turn out to live in North America, by any means. The only thing I can be fairly sure of is that I have not read anything by any of these writers before. (Over the years, I have read a lot of subsequent books from many of them, with their names right there on the spines and their photos on the dust jacket flap—though since I'm not a very up-to-date reader, I generally don't get around to reading them until they've been nominated for Hugos or Nebulas or World Fantasy Awards.)” — Tim Powers Considered one of the most prolific writers working in modern fiction, New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer, Dean Wesley Smith published over two hundred novels and over seven hundred books in fifty years, and hundreds and hundreds of short stories. He has over thirty million copies of his books in printAt the moment he produces novels in four major series, including the time travel Thunder Mountain novels set in the old west, the galaxy-spanning Seeders Universe series, the cold case mystery series, Cold Poker Gang series, and the superhero series starring Poker Boy. During his career, Dean also wrote a couple dozen Star Trek novels, the only two original Men in Black novels, Spider-Man and X-Men novels, plus novels set in gaming and television worlds. Writing with his wife Kristine Kathryn Rusch under the name Kathryn Wesley, they wrote the novel for the NBC miniseries The Tenth Kingdom and other books for “I think this Contest has done more to help new writers achieve their dreams than anything that has come before. I know it gave me a huge push. It's wonderful to return to be a part of it again as a judge.” —Dean Wesley Smith Find out more at: deanwesleysmith.com

WOTF Church activities will focus on the worship of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software.” EQAs technology advances, many believe AI will surpass human intelligence. But God's Prophetic Word of Truth makes certain that it is the Lord God Almighty Who alone is Lord over all, and He has everything in control. He alone is All Knowing and Perfect in all His ways. He alone is God!He is, however, allowing the enemy to have his day for a short period of time, as all things fall right into place according to God's Prophetic Calendar which was verified and sealed by the Holy Spirit before the earth was formed. In this Podcast, we focus on AI which will most likely be one of the primary tools of the enemy that will give his Antichrist the global control God's Word reveals he will wield over all people of earth for the seven-year Tribulation Period, with Love's invitation for those who have “ears to hear” to run into Salvation's Safety Net while there is yet time! Support the showVisit our website: https://agapelightministries.com/

The answer she found didn't surprise her, as it was what she'd always valued about her favorite writers: genres like fantasy or science-fiction perform the same function of all good literature by finding new and inventive ways to help the reader see their world (and self) more clearly.   Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning artist and illustrator; Clarence Bateman! Clarence Bateman's passion for art was inspired by comic books from an early age. He fantasized about one day being a comic book artist for Marvel as Spiderman was his favorite superhero at the time. In his early teenage years he would hustle family members by doing Christmas cards and lightly twisting their arms to buy them. He would do art for his friends in school and they would pay him with comic books. He dropped out of high school to enroll in the The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica attending for three years before emigrating to the US.   After a series of dead end jobs he decided to go back to school for art enrolling in the New York City Technical College part time while holding down a full time job in the garment district as a pattern maker. He did a three year advertising program with the intention of becoming an Art Director and instead ended up working in the advertising field for the next thirty plus years as a freelance pre-production sketch artist. Sketch art at the time was done primarily with magic markers, color pencils and inks. When work started transitioning to the computer he taught himself how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.   Clarence's primary focus is Science Fiction and Fantasy art encompassing such a wide range of subject matter he considers it practically impossible to have artist block. He spends his late nights honing his skills, constantly learning, and working to become a better artist. Clarence Bateman artist and Illustrators of the Future winner from L. Chatting With Sherri welcomes author and Writers of the Future Grand Prize Winner, David K. Henrickson! David Henrickson has been in love with science fiction since he was nine years old. He still remembers turning a corner in his local library and seeing rack upon rack (okay, three racks) of juvenile science fiction, which fired his imagination and transported him to strange new worlds. Unlike other boys his age, he never developed an obsession with cars or other such pedestrian forms of travel. If it couldn't take him to other worlds, out of the solar system, back in time, or to another dimension, he just wasn't interested. During college, he won several writing awards and later received a scholarship to the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's Workshop. Dave has a background in oceanography, engineering, and computer science, but always wanted to be an artist. Or maybe a dancer. These days he lives in Virginia and spends his free time reading, writing, and killing monsters with his wife, Abbie. Dave has also written a number of novels he hopes might even get published one of these days. This was recorded in May but due to some tech difficulties which we overcame we are broadcasting tonight!

In 2018, one of his novellas, Deathsworn, won a Watty, Wattpad's highest honour, reminding him that he is good enough, he can do this writing thing. “Lilt of a Lark,” his first professional sale, tells the story of a hapless musician who has the power to sway the minds of others through song. Azure began writing at a young age, and while her inspiration began with Grimm fairytale stories and the Sleepover Friends, much of her current style has been heavily influenced by Octavia Butler and Henry James. She is obsessed with literature and has found that her passions are evenly distributed between writing, teaching, parenting, and reading books with her son. Azure's stories and poems have appeared or are forthcoming in more than a dozen publications, but Writers of the Future is her first professional sale. About “Agatha's Monster,” Azure says, “Agatha began with some random questions. One day, I found myself wondering: what if monsters were born out of trauma? What would the world look like? How would humanity stay safe? Thus, Agatha came to life as a Hunter, a mage, a regular person with basic needs and worries. The ride Agatha and her monsters go on surprised me at times, and every rewrite shifted the narrative just enough to keep me, and hopefully future readers, guessing about what would happen next. The ending actually surprised me, too, and I feel it is one of my best-written endings thus far.” . About “The Greater Good,” Em says, “I've always been interested in the concept of justice and knowing that the world may change, but humans and their base desires remain the same. I often wondered if there had been one adult in Lord of the Flies, how would that have affected the outcome? And how could we implement hands-on guidance in a speculative future?”

In his other life, Astaire is a senior enlisted leader for a military public relations unit, supervising the training, development, and operations of multimedia content creators. Astaire's lifelong obsession with science fiction and fantasy was forged as a child in the halls of local public libraries. The addiction was enabled by reading programs like Accelerated Reader and BOOK IT!, and the revelation to write professionally was born after his discovery of Dean Wesley Smith's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthology. For these formative experiences, he is forever grateful. Astaire can be found Saturday mornings in Peoria metro-area coffee shops conducting weekly writing sessions and trying to apply Denzel Washington's adage that “Dreams without goals are just dreams, and they ultimately fuel disappointment.” Writers of the Future was Astaire's goal since 2017. He has a long history of volunteering as a programming language instructor and a less fulfilling history in software development. While not writing, he spends his free time reading, running, and eating sushi. Andy came to writing fiction by way of academia. While an undergraduate, he completed four majors—computer science, religious studies, philosophy, and Asian studies—and published a paper on two of India's great epics, the Mahābhārata and the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. In pursuit of a career as a professor of South Asian religion, he completed a master's of theological studies at Harvard Divinity School. Along the way, he realized writing about abstruse Sanskrit texts for a living wasn't for him. Unfortunately, giving up on academia also meant giving up on many opportunities to publish. Fortunately, writing speculative fiction brings new publishing opportunities. Andy's winning story, "A Word That Means Everything," is published in the anthology, L.
