In this heavy-hitting episode, FIRST Podcasters interview team Ukraine. The CERT-UA group share insights and revelations as they compare 2021 cyber incidents to 2022 and discuss attacker tactics. A large time frame of exploits came in early January, just as Ukrainians were receiving warnings of potential war. Sowing disorder, the disinformation campaign had a cyber component, as assailants attempted to convince the public that their government could not protect them or their data.
The Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) took place for the time in Ireland. FIRST's 34th Annual Conference, entitled ‘Neart Le Chéile: Strength Together' took place in the Convention Centre, Dublin, from June 26 to July 1, 2022. One of the speakers was a team from Ukraine, Victor Zhora (The State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, UA), Yevheniia Volivnyk, Yevhen Bryksin (CERT-UA (SCPC SSSCIP), UA). Ronan talks to the team about their FIRST talk and more. They talk about their experience of cyberwar in the Ukraine, the new challenges Ukraine faces in cyberspace, their talk at FIRST, and the worst cyber attacks Ukraine has faced. They also talk about If the cyber attacks have stayed the same, what we can learn from the cybersecurity attacks on Ukraine, how social media has helped, and why communication is so important. More about FIRST: The Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) is an international not-for-profit organisation bringing together a variety of security and incident response teams. Today, FIRST is comprised of over 600 member teams from over 90 countries representing government agencies, academia, commercial enterprises, and financial corporations. Today, we hear from Honens Quarterfinalist Zhora Sargsyan with a performance of Rachmaninov's Étude-tableau Op. 39 No. 5. Zhora poetically describes this piece as very dramatic and a little bit Wagnerian: symphonic and polyphonic. He suggests listening for the single melodic line pitted against the mass of chords. The melody has to overcome the heaviness and insist on its existence. In the end, Zhora says the drama resolves and through the storm the spot of light can be seen, symbolizing hope for survival.Let's listen.-Watch the video edition of this excerpt here.

I was delighted to welcome Darragh of Horrenda, Shannon of Aborted Earth, Tony of Restive Nation and Tom of Zhora to talk about the All Ireland Metal Project, an unique collaboration of over one hundred musicians, artists and film makers on this island of ours. The lads give us an exclusive track by track preview of one of the most anticipated releases this year, it's titled Aiséirí and it will precede another two releases further down the line. It's an incredible achievement and there's every style of music in there for all fans of the Metal genre. What's even better is that every single cent raised from Merch and sales of the album will go to Bernado's charity. The release date is Friday the 17th of September and please support it. We’re right on top of that, Rose! It’s true. We are here with Joanna Cassidy. You Might Know Her From Six Feet Under, Blade Runner, Call Me Fitz, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Buffalo Bill, Club Paradise, and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. Joanna talked to us about playing Brenda’s narcissistic mother Margaret Chenowith on Six Feet Under and the series perfect ending, reimagining the snake dance that Zhora never got to do in Blade Runner, learning how to do Ava Gardner’s makeup for her role in Roger Rabbit, and plans for the Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead sequel or reboot. All that plus Ava Gardner and Mickey Rooney’s relationship, Bob Hoskins being hot as hell, and Joanna playing gay with trailblazer Meredith Baxter. Follow us on social media: @damianbellino || @rodemanne Alice Ghostley in “Greased Lightning” Grease 2 penis reveal Moonstruck was great, Nic Cage has a wooden hand though? Cher won the Oscar for Moonstruck over Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction Glenn has 8 Oscar nominations (most nominated with no wins!) and got a Razzie nom this year too. Two lead women in Moonstruck are not Italian (Dukakis:Greek / Cher: Armenian) Joanna’s laugh is iconic Played Brenda’s mom on Six Feet Under, which maybe has the best finale of all time Starred Zhora in Blade Runner but never got to do Zhora’s sexy snake dance because the movie went over budget. Ridley Scott re-shot her famous through-the-plate-glass scene since it was clear that her stunt-double Lee Pulford had a really bad wig (that was totally visible in the original final cut) Joanna filmed the sexy snake dance herself and uploaded it on her YouTube since she has snake handling experience (the snake in the movie was hers!) Played Rose Lindsey in the iconic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and the M&M bit was hers Once had a child yell “I’m right on top of that Rose” to her in Turks and Caicos Played gay opposite Meredith Baxter in Other Mothers. Meredith is of course famous for playing an extremely heterosexual mom on Family Ties. She and Meredith reunited on Switched at Birth Meredith Baxter came out publicly in 2009 Her hair was dyed brown for Who Framed Roger Rabbit and she put on a little Ava Gardner to get into character. How did Mickey Rooney get Ava Gardner? Charles Fleischer was the voice of Roger Rabbit and he came in every day in a rabbit suit Bob Hoskins was sexy and maybe in the mafia!? Three different people. Three different films. Well, sort of... Jacob, Andrew, and Edward tackle the sci-fi epic Blade Runner as they each watch a different version of the film that has gone through multiple changes since its original release in 1982. They discuss how the film differs from the original idea of the book as they try to decipher the many renditions of this genre-flexing behemoth. Cuts of the film researched based on this article Outline: - Based on a Philip K Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - The Theatrical release (The one with the voice-overs) - 30MM Budget - 26MM summer box office - Directors cut - Final cut (Where can I see the two Zhora death scenes side by side) - What is Film noir - Is Film noir a format defining genre - Famous Film noir (Chinatown, The Maltese falcon, The Dark Night, Winter Soldier) - The world-building in 2019 LA - How the soundtrack lead to a very specific aesthetic - Breakdown of the final scene and the final monologue - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Is Deckard a replicant? - Why do we care? Is this a good movie? Bailey Junior of Scapegoat TV made a short film on mental health and suicide called Suffer. He is heavily involved in the Metal Community in Scotland and asked for assistance in making the short from friends of his who soon contributed to the soundtrack of the movie. I asked Tom of Zhora, Evan of Worn Out and Shane Horan, Photographer and Psychotherapist to come on the show to discuss Baileys film and Zhora's Demotivator. What followed was an interesting and insightful talk on mental health in our metal community. Any comments or views on this subject or if you feel there needs to be another show on this contact me. It was great to welcome one of the best drummers of the Irish Metal Scene to the studio last Saturday. Tom and Zhora have released a vicious single called Coke Vulture which knocked us all on our arses and should herald another massive step forward for one of the biggest drawing Metal bands in Ireland. Tom talks about the recording of the new album "Mortals" and the emotions that are forged into those songs. The discussion talked about the frustration of something that's controlling you or someone you care about, inner demons and trying not to be consumed by the surrounding darkness. Tom is brutally honest and it's an absolute relief to hear he accepted the turmoil and Zhora created something that channelled those feelings into songs that brought Tom health and happiness. It's what makes him human. It's what makes him Mortal. Enjoy the episode and if you like it leave a rating please! Song featured: Coke Vulture (c) Zhora. All rights reserved and used by permission.
The Metal Cell was delighted to start off 2020 with the first of a series of new acts to look out for in the Irish Metal Scene. Spirit Merchant's Colin Bolger (Vox/Guitars), Leon (Bass/Effects) and Ollie (Drums) all have a wealth of experience between them in their respective bands Zhora, Coroza and Medicant. It was great to sit down with the lads and explore the fundamental building blocks of Spirit Merchant. Having seen their debut last year, I was intrigued to hear how they've progressed as a three piece and they were quick to tell me that they had no shortage of new songs. It didn't surprise me to hear they were experimenting with various tones to bring a earthier soundscape to enrich the listeners experience and the conversation flowed around such topics as their band name, lyrics and festivals. The next few months will be important for Spirit Merchant with an upcoming appearance in Metal 2 The Masses and the release of a debut E.P. Colin, Ollie and Leon are seriously talented musicans and it was great to chat about the Metal Scene from their perspective. I have no doubt that they are ready to take a giant step into making 2020 a year to remember for those who witness them live and hope that whatever they release will live long in the memory of Irish Metal music.
Los Angeles, November 2019. Blade Runner's future is now ours. Ridley Scott's 1982 classic future film of replicants escaping to a retrofitted Earth and meeting their end at the hands of the washed out, titular Blade Runner, Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, is adapted from Philip K. Dick's equally classic 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Both film and book are meditations on what it is to be human but we have been looking through the eyes of the film ever since it plunged us into its acid rain, neon coated, West Coast nightmare of flaming night skies, commercial ziggurats, flying cars and fake animals. Now its future is our present. We live in a world of mass species die off, environmental crisis, rapidly developing A.I., all powerful corporations and extreme divides between rich and poor. Film and book have bled into our culture in many different ways and in this series of the Essay, we mark the year of Blade Runner, in the month of Blade Runner. Dr Beth Singler, Junior Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at Homerton College, Cambridge asks what is real and fake in A.I. sex and love. "Simulation forces us to think about how we can the ‘real' that we seem so often to be confident about. Confident enough perhaps to reassure ourselves that the use of ‘fake' humans as slave labour and sexbots is alright to be skimmed over in the dialogue of the human characters in Blade Runner. What does it say about the society in the world of Blade Runner that it is okay with slave replicants who fight our off-world wars and fulfil sexual needs for colonists? It gets worse. What does it say about a society that is okay with slave replicants who are only two years old?" Producer: Mark Burman
Diagnosed with an incurable condition and given only weeks to live Roy Batty realizes there is a lot of living still left to do. With nothing to lose he travels to Los Angeles with his friends Zhora, Pris and Leon in search of answers to life's great mysteries. Edited by Andrew Ivimey and produced for the From Superheroes network. Visit www.FromSuperheroes.com for more podcasts, YouTube series, web comics, and more.
And the winner is… Joanna Cassidy. Golden Globe award-winning actress Joanna Cassidy joins Bob as she lights up the studio with her infectious energy. They chat about all things life, love, money, and business. Joanna wears many hats; as an entertainer, an artist, a businesswoman, and a mom. Joanna talks about her journey to Hollywood as a single mother. Her determined mindset helped her forge a successful career in film and television. Joanna's credits include Blade Runner, Six Feet Under, Buffalo Bill and so many more. @joannavcassidy, @joannacassidyofficial
So Ollie the drummer of Coroza, Colin singer/riffmaster of Zhora have formed a new band along with Leon bassist with Mendicant and called it Spirit Merchant. This was only their third gig and what a great performance they dished out to a large crowd. The Metal Cell was delighted to catch them, to hear them talk about the benefits of side projects, enjoying life as a three piece and future plans.
The Metal Cell Studio was delighted to spend an entertaining few hours in the company of Howard, the hugely talented and accomplished vocalist & guitarist from Partholón. Howard has been involved in playing music in Cork with various bands for over 22 years, which allows him to share his perspective with me on the current status of the metal scene. He explains the responsibility he places upon himself as an musician and an artist, his hopes, frustrations and ambitions which drive him to complete the Partholón album for a future release late this year. It was a great interview and plenty of laughter ensued as well. Shout outs to: Magnus and Cult of Luna, Ten Ton Slug, Zealot Cult, Zhora, God Alone, Archaós, Pavol from Soothsayer, Last Light Recording Studio's, Seanie from Unyielding Love, Red Sun Alert, One Hundred Year Old Man, Na Cruithne, Coroza, Damage Grows, Mark from Paranoid Beast, Pyre Promotions, The Magnapinna and Stu. Songs featured: All We Are & The Hunt (c) Partholón, 2019 all rights reserved.
Archaós released their brilliant sophomore e.p Liberation to the Irish Metal Community on March 22nd 2019. Aaron on bass and Luke frontman/guitarist visited The Metal Cell studios to talk about how they wrote, recorded and mixed the e.p themselves along with fellow band members Alessio on guitar/death vocals and Chris on drums. Cans of beer were cracked open to a discussion on Dantes "The Divine Comedy", attacking metal objects with axes for the opening track Dugga and what it means for a band like Archaós to find their sound in a thriving Irish Metal Scene. So sit back and enjoy this great episode with the 2 lads of Archaós who certainly can make a huge difference to Irish Metal given their chance. Shout outs to Partholón, God Alone, Bailer, Zhora, Worn Out, From The Bogs of Aughiska, Words That Burn, Interference, Yurt and of course Dead Label and Ten Ton Slug. #supportirishmetal Songs featured: Dugga & Liberation © Archaós, 2019, all rights reserved

The Metal Cell was delighted to have Colin of Zhora at the studio to talk about his passion for music and art. It was a terrific chat that covered his journey from a shy teenager picking up a guitar in Clonmel to a prowling frontman on the stages of Wacken and Bloodstock. Hope you enjoy it and thanks to Erica for coming along for the support. Richie Le Faux

We continue to celebrate the release of BLADE RUNNER, 36 years ago this week, by talking about the cult classic. We are joined by filmmaker Charles de Lauzirika to talk about how we originially saw the film and what the it means to us. Movie Heaven Movie Hell is a show where filmmakers Simon Aitken (BLOOD + ROSES, POST-ITS, MODERN LOVE) and Keith Eyles (FEAR VIEW, DRIVEN INSANE, CROSSED LINES) go through the A-Z of directors. Simon and Keith talk about their favourite and least favourite film from that director's body of work. Originally from Ireland, Zhora takes us on a unique perspective of the city having grown up in the emirate, studied at AUS and now working at Al Qasba. Anna started their conversation at the children's bookshop and cafe, Maktaba with Zhora describing the strong essence of family and community she felt in those early days of moving to the Emirate.
Great conversation with Taylor Rea who performs as Zhora, and her thoughts on dealing with stress before performing, her happiest places and, at the end, does an exercise on how to properly breathe. Glad to hear her share her ideas on those she admires in music and what are their best practices for preparing for performing. On and One, Led Zep, Beck, Bowie and Fleetwood Mac are her vinyl favorites in my house, she's not only my dog's favorite friend, she's our new favorite Dallas artist.
