In Episode #033 of CrisisCast 2020 | Jos Willard Jos Willard - An Alaskan American describes Alberta, Canada (where he lives) as the Texas of Canada! Before he was a coach, he used to blow up tanks and jump out of airplanes for the US Army. In this episode, we discuss how wargaming can help us, staying focused on the journey and gives a good reminder of why we all need to get out from behind our computer screens. About Jos: Are you a coach or service professional who's tired of having to make decisions based on what's in the bank account? Do you want a profitable practice, full of your ideal clients, that supports your family - WITHOUT taking advantage of your clients, feeling slimy, or stressed out? I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON YOUR VALUES- NOT YOUR BANK BALANCE. I also believe that the best way to do that is to have a full bank account. Do you want the freedom to work with only your ideal clients, and to make your decisions based on your values, rather than “what you can afford?” Would you like to have control over your schedule, so you can have the time to recharge and bring your best work to your clients every day, without shortchanging your family? My mission is to help good coaches build profitable practices so that they are rewarded for making a positive impact in the world, living from their values, and helping exactly the people they’re meant to serve. Not to brag, but I have more than two decades of international experience mentoring, coaching, training, and making millions of dollars for my clients’ businesses. I’ve been lucky enough to befriend (and smart enough to hire!) some amazing coaches and mentors in my life and reaped the benefits. Now, I “pay it forward” by coaching and mentoring a select number of clients “behind the scenes.” My clients have run the gamut from single coaches and service professionals to multi-location regional businesses, to international organizations. If anything I’ve said here resonates with you, and you’d like to explore working with me as a client, then we should schedule a conversation. In Episode #030 of CrisisCast 2020 | Abigail Rose Clarke I connected with health behavior expert Abigail Rose Clarke through Lena West (episode 17) and I immediately knew she would give a unique perspective from her home in Mexico. It’s normal that I’d ask guests to close windows for sound quality reasons… but in this case, I wasn’t able to because Abigail has no windows where she lives! So all the pleasant animal sounds in this show are real and of course, none were harmed in the making of this podcast. Our conversation covers COVID-19, global protests, history, pleasure, and her work as helping people have better relationships with their bodies through her ‘Embodied Life Method’. “A revolution must be an evolution” - Grace Lee Boggs My Guest: Abigail Rose Clarke is a somatic educator focusing on strategic, tangible, embodied methods to create lasting change in our personal and communal lives, rippling out from individual to systemic change. By helping people truly inhabit their own skin and blood and guts and bones she offers a way to re-enter into a true relationship with the world. Abigail holds a degree in Health Behavior from Smith College and focused her undergraduate work on the use of mind-body modalities in the treatment of anxiety disorders as classified by the DSM-V. Her work focuses on the class and race access barriers to wellness, and the ways wellness and the wellness industry are inherently political, even as the body transcends politics. In 2014 Abigail began developing The Embodied Life Method™. In courses and workshops throughout the United States and online, Abigail teaches embodiment as a practice and a responsibility. As the world shakes and burns and floods we are tasked with remaining present to the world as it is, which requires we remain present to ourselves as we are. Only when we are willing to be present with the world and ourselves and one another does the way forward become possible. There isn’t a single binary in your body. Nature knows no hierarchy. When we remember that we have more in common with the stones and trees and mossy woods than we do with steel buildings and supremacies of any kind, we live into the future. From her home in Chicago - Shelley Paxton. After 26 years in the corporate world where her last position was Chief Marketing Officer at Harley Davidson… To the shock of her family friends and coworkers She left and went on her Soulbbatical (have no fear this term is fully explained). Shelley has gone on to become a coach, an author, and has truly started her life all over again. Along with the health crisis, Black Lives Matter is now at the forefront of our lives and the conversation. I was so grateful to Shelley for speaking with me about the deep work she is doing, how she plans to be part of the solution, and books we need to read. We’re so proud to be publishing her new podcast Rebel Souls - coming in August. Here’s just a sample of the treat your ears have in store. My Guest Authenticity is the truest form of rebellion. What are you rebelling for? At the height of my 26-year career as an accomplished marketing executive and global brand leader – having become CMO of Harley-freaking-Davidson – I discovered that the view from the top of the corporate ladder lacked the fulfillment I expected. In fact, it was taking the joy out of my life—and the life out of me. I had been playing by someone else’s rules for so long that I didn’t even realize what I'd lost: a connection to my own soul. It would take a couple years, several international flights, and innumerable moments of self-reflection to regain my deepest, truest sense of self. It took a full blown Soulbbatical to get reacquainted with my purpose: to teach people how to rebel for who they are, what they want, and the impact they want to have in the world. I’ve reached a point in my life where I’ve realized that to rebel against something—the establishment, the rules, the red tape—isn’t nearly as productive, meaningful or fulfilling as rebelling for something. I started Soulbbatical, the company, with the mission to liberate the souls of leaders and organizations by inspiring them to realize (and rebel for) their greatest purpose, possibility, and impact. As an ICF-certified professional coach, I work with executives at Fortune 100 companies as well as fellow rebel soul individuals and entrepreneurs. I’ve trained with some of the top teachers in the world, including Brené Brown, researcher and five-time New York Times bestselling author, and Rich Litvin, master coach and author of The Prosperous Coach. I wrote Soulbbatical: A Corporate Rebel’s Guide to Finding Your Best Life (published by Simon & Schuster in January 2020) as a manifesto on breaking free from the traditional shoulds and should-nots of life and leadership. It’s about rewriting the script of success—personally and professionally. It’s not the six-figure salary and corner office. It’s not external validation. Success is radical self-commitment – giving yourself permission to be YOU. It’s saying yes to what serves you and no to what doesn’t. It’s carving your own path. It’s becoming success-FULL instead of success-EMPTY. If you’d like to hire me for coaching or book me to speak, email me at shelley@soulbbatical.com or InMail me. Graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in Marketing, from the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program (with Omnicom University), and from the iPEC Coaching Program. Mark shares his thoughts on mindset, being a good buyer, the importance of respecting legacy, and why the IQ of the wealthy isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. My Guest: Mark McRae There are thousands of emerging businesses, some with life-changing ideas that we will never hear about. The unfortunate fact is that they just do not have the skills and knowledge to get them to the next level. My mission is to work closely with small business owners to help them achieve dramatic growth in both profits and lifestyle. I provide one on one consultation with individuals and companies to present them strategic solutions both financially and personally. The real-world experience and knowledge I have gained are from the challenges every business owner may face. Today on Crisiscast2020 - I take you to Amsterdam for a chat with Sander Den Boer where lockdown seems to be fairly relaxed compared to the UK and much of the rest of the world. We talk, mental health, dog ownership, and SaaS - In case you were unaware - SaaS stands for Software as a Service. S think ‘apps’. Sander uses his skills to help the nerds behind these SaaS products sell their stuff to those who need it. So here’s my chat with my European neighbor Sander Den Boer. My Guest: I help SaaS companies finding new clients by writing website content, sales funnels, and emails that generate and convert leads and improves their brand recognition. I always strike a balance between being conversational whilst always using a professional tone. I know what it takes to convince decision-makers that you can successfully help their company and its employees. The principle is simple: show that your tools provide value, help people, and ultimately increase the company’s bottom line. Getting the right tools is incredibly important in advancing any business. This is something I take to heart as I constantly learn new things about marketing, copywriting, and – in my spare time – making music. In Episode #023 of CrisisCast 2020 | Laura Prisc Coach and strategic thinker Laura Prisc. A woman who loves a meaningful conversation… I spoke with Laura back on the 24th of April, fairly early on in the lockdown. Laura gave me her view of life in West Virginia, USA, and shared her feelings on leadership, community, reflection and why short bursts of creativity will help keeps us all sane. My Guest: Laura Prisc is The Most Trusted Authority on Conscious Leadership for High-Performance Organizations. For more than 20 years, she's worked side-by-side with leaders at all levels in organizations of every size imaginable, from one-location operations through the full continuum of multi-site global organizations. As a keen observer of human nature, Laura has always been fascinated by people and has sought to understand how they think and why they do what they do. This has served her—and many others—very well in the area of navigating the people-related challenges within business organizations. Laura finds that there are people in many organizations who seem to be functioning on autopilot rather than actually thinking about what they are doing and the impact of their actions on the business. In our chat today, Erin reflects on past personal crisis and how she is drawing strength from those experiences. While fully acknowledging the seriousness of the state of the world today, Erin also brings so much infectious energy and (if it’s not too much of an oxymoron) tangible hope for the future. My Guest: My clients are visionary leaders, entrepreneurs, and coaches who are ready to launch their next act - a startup, business, innovative product or service, or career - and make a difference in the world. They have a track record of success, nail every challenge that they take on, and on paper are a paragon of success. But they often find themselves... • Bored or burned out. They feel disconnected and out of touch with what really matters. • Feeling like something is missing. They wonder “is there something more than this?” • Noticing that the rush of achievement wears off quickly, and immediately asking “what’s next?” • Wanting to do something different, but despite their track record of success, are terrified that *this* time they will fail. • Wanting to make a more meaningful impact on the world, but unsure of where to start. Or they have an idea, but ask themselves “who am I to do that?” • With very few, if any, people they can talk with about this. If any of this rings true for you, you are not alone. Through my work, I have discovered that some of the most successful people in the world are bored, burned out, or disillusioned with the impact they are having on the world. I also consult with training companies and associates on how to generate more revenue and deliver better outcomes. Every project starts with an in-depth consultation with the client to establish how training can deliver on their goals, in order to design a program that not only leads to measurable results but also means their people will permanently change their behavior, leading to a solid return on the training investment. I have extensive experience in training and coaching trainers to deliver better results, hiring trainers, designing and delivering train-the-trainer programs and coaching and mentoring trainers to ever-higher levels of performance. My motivation comes from seeing people achieve results that they thought were beyond them. I love to see people do things that they thought were beyond their capabilities, and grow and develop beyond what they thought was possible. I like to show people a different way of looking at a situation so that they see new opportunities and find novel approaches to problems that spur them on to greater success. I believe in building on people's natural talents, strengths, and abilities, showing them how to integrate new skills and behaviors into their existing styles. I only knew Jeff Munn by name before this chat but something told me he would be a good guest.. and it took me about half a second to realize I was in the company of a man who has done some serious self-work. I felt lighter after our chat and I hope you do to after listening. Jeff shared wisdom and insights and was even open enough to look back on his experience of how 911 changed him. So enjoy this interview with a man who helps his clients create extraordinary futures… I give you Jeff Munn. Jeff’s Bio: After over 25 years in the corporate world, I finally had to come to terms with the bigger mission that had been whispering in my ear for many years. But I didn’t do it voluntarily. I didn’t do it knowing how everything would work out. A door opened, and I decided to step through it. On August 2, 2016, everything changed for me. Because of a corporate restructuring, I suddenly went from a successful role at a leading financial services firm to not having a job. I only knew two things. I knew I didn’t want to be an employee again. And I knew I wanted to change people’s lives. I didn’t know exactly how I was going to do that. But I took the next step. And the next. And the next. And today, just a few years later, I live in the mountains of Colorado and help amazing people step into lives of greater presence, purpose, and possibility. In Episode #006 of CrisisCast 2020 | Escaping NYC and Flying the Flag For Women with Helen Appleby from The Unwritten Rules Of Women’s Leadership Today On CrisisCast 2020 - A Brit escapes Manhattan at the peak of the pandemic, drives 13 hours and self isolates with their kids in an Air B’n’B. Despite all of this, Helen Appleby continues to lead and is starting to think seriously about how she will continue to fly the flag for the female workforce, as data shows… This crisis will disproportionately and negatively affect women. Sitting on a box in an unfurnished house in South Carolina. I give you the wisdom from an always lovely, very wise and grateful Helen Appleby. Discover… How the pandemic has affected Helen’s life in the heart of New York City • Helen’s thoughts on how the pandemic will affect businesses and women in business • Why what great leaders do now matters for the future Helen’s Bio: I work with CEO's and senior leaders to grow their leadership style, build high performing teams, take their career to the next level or design their legacy. Being senior means that it is so much harder to get the feedback you need, to grow. I get honest feedback for my clients and I tell them the truth, even if it’s tough so that they can be grounded in the reality that they need to grow. Being successful can also be lonely. I understand the "loneliness of leadership" because I have been there. I know firsthand how it feels to be surrounded by people and still feel alone because there is no-one objective that you can ask. I am that confidential, judgment-free sounding board for the big vision, the critical decisions, and the highs and the lows on the journey too.
