Welcome to a special bonus episode. In November 2021 we spent a week learning to sing before entering the world of group singing when we joined a choir. If you listened to the show, you may remember us telling the story of Mandy, a member of the R Voices choir and talking about how being a part of the choir community supported her through her cancer journey. Her voice features as a solo in "When We Were Young" during and at the end of the show. Since recording the episode, Mandy's cancer returned and we are deeply saddened to share with you that she passed away last week. We wanted to re release this episode as a tribute to her, to the choir who are grieving her loss and so the world gets to hear her beautiful voice again. In 2019, the inaugural Visionary Honours, founded by Thriller Live creator Adrian Grant, celebrated work that inspired social change in or debate about equality, diversity, inclusion, mental health, anti-social behaviour or environmental change. For its second year, there will be a Visionary Awards ceremony in March and ten bursaries of up to £5,000 each for young creative artists. This year’s panel includes the writer of hit West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Tom MacRae, who spoke to us about the awards and his involvement, as well as about how Jamie, soon to go on a world tour and be released as a film starring Richard E Grant, initially came about. The Visionary Honours 2020 recipients will be announced on 18 March, with the shortlist to be announced on 4 February.

Like most musicians who are at the top of their game, Mike Lindup’s path to music began when he was very young. His mother and father were both creative souls and musicians, which provided an important influence for Mike. It wasn’t long after attending the Guildhall School of Music that Mike found his way into a band that would prove to be his greatest gig, keyboardist with Level 42. For nearly 40 years, Level 42 has released 11 studio albums, an EP and several live and greatest hits compilations and have continued to tour heavily throughout Europe. Mike has also released three solo projects and stays busy with sessions for other musicians, as well as performing in a periodic live gig called ‘Thriller Live’ which has had a ten year run in London’s west end. Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome Mike Lindup.
‘I’m starting with the man in the mirror.I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If you want to make the world a better place.Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.’ I’ve heard those words sung many times by the legend that was … Michael Jackson. But on Sunday night, whilst escaping from the bitter cold air in London, by randomly getting last minute theatre tickets to see Thriller Live … those words truly made an impact! It echoed a lot of what just a few hours ago, I’d been chatting about with YOU, whilst recording this week’s podcast episode. (I always picture that I’m actually speaking to you when I hit ‘record’ … incase you’re sitting here scratching your head & thinking … ‘did we speak?’) Here’s where you can tune into this week’s podcast chat … (you just need to picture in your head that we’re sitting in your favourite coffee shop together .. having a deep & meaningful chat over a skinny white Americano … cause do you know how many calories are in a caramel macchiato?!?) Here’s a little sneaky peek of how some of that interesting conversation flowed … Why is it so easy for us to think that we need the latest tactic or strategy, to help us grow our business? Because in fact, most of the times … what we really need to do is look much closer to home (i.e. in the mirror). And on that … why do we something automatically think that NEW is better than OLD … (& when are those times that ‘new’ really is better?). Is it that we’re suffering from FOMO (fear of missing out), instead of embracing JOMO (joy of missing out)? Seriously, can you honestly say that your goals are really YOUR goals? Or have they all meshed together from all the influences around you … to make you think that they’re your goals but really deep down, they’re not really? * Told you we went deep! * Plus, we dove into why you need to keep an eye on the actions you’re taking. Because if you’re not careful, each of those little decisions you’re making, can end up compounding together & taking further away from what you actually want … rather than closer to it. All this sparked from what’s been a fortnight of interesting events, reflections & conversations that I’ve been having. Then ‘random’ things popping up everywhere, making me think … this needs to be talked more about ... with you & for you too! So enjoy listening in & I’d love to hear what it sparks for you.
