Pick up your copy now at your local bookstore or visit noiser.com/books to learn more. The Private Eye has long been a fixture of popular culture - from Sherlock Holmes, to Philip Marlowe, to Jessica Fletcher. But behind the fictional detectives lies a real figure whose influence shaped the very idea of the private investigator: Allan Pinkerton. After fleeing Scotland for the US under murky circumstances in the mid-1800s, he reinvented himself as a crime fighter and founded America's first detective agency. Soon, his name was everywhere. His agents guarded trains, infiltrated gangs, and uncovered a plot to kill a president. But how did a poor Scottish immigrant build a private army more powerful than the police? How did his methodologies shape surveillance, and influence the foundations of the FBI? And what happened when his agents went head-to-head with legendary outlaws like Jesse James or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? This is a Short History Of The Pinkerton Detective Agency. A Noiser podcast production. Hosted by John Hopkins. With thanks to Rhodri Jeffreys-Jones, a historian, and author of Allan Pinkerton, America's Legendary Detective and the Birth of Private Security. Episode Description Your autoimmune condition, chronic fatigue, and inability to manifest aren't health problems—they're symptoms of suppressed emotional energy. While the wellness industry pushes billions in supplements, clean eating protocols, and biohacking tools, we're missing what's really blocking true healing: unprocessed rage, grief, and trauma trapped in your body. Dr. G sits down with Mia Magic, an author and embodiment practitioner, to reveal the truth: every autoimmune flare, every anxiety spiral, and every block in your life is your body's way of communicating about unexpressed emotions and nervous system dysregulation. But the most shocking revelation? "Constant emotional suppression is an act of abuse that we're inflicting upon our inner children every single day." Discover the profound mind-body-spirit connection behind chronic illness and why emotional boundaries and feminine power are directly linked to something called "cellular memory"—allowing you to access ancestral strength and restore your God-given state of receiving. If you've tried every supplement stack and elimination diet without results, this episode reveals the missing piece. In This Episode: ⚫ How chronic emotional suppression creates autoimmune conditions and nervous system breakdown ⚫ Why women's health crisis is fundamentally an emotional crisis, not a physical one ⚫ The connection between unexpressed rage and autoimmune conditions in women ⚫ How trauma stored in the body blocks manifestation and feminine power ⚫ Why giving yourself permission to feel is the foundation of true healing ⚫ The link between destruction of Earth and destruction of the womb space ⚫ How to access cellular memory and reclaim ancestral strength Find Mia Magik here: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/miamagik Website: https://miamagik.com/ Timestamps: 0:00 - Why Women Are Spiritually Awakening Now 2:37 - What Real Feminine Power Actually Looks Like 6:46 - If Women Reclaimed Their Power, Everything Would Change 8:06 - From Childhood Magic to Healing Work 13:05 - Cellular Memory: Knowledge From Past Lives 24:01 - Why 80% of Autoimmune Conditions Affect Women 27:17 - Rage Rituals: Releasing What You've Never Been Allowed to Feel 32:23 - What Happens After Women Release Their Rage 40:05 - The Courage to Face Your Shadow Self 46:23 - Why Women Are Sexually Repressed and How to Heal 50:51 - Sacred Sexuality: Making Sex Medicine, Not a Transaction 59:02 - How Women Can Hold Space for Masculine Vulnerability 1:07:15 - Why Your Voice Is Your Most Powerful Tool 1:13:44 - The Womb as Portal: What You're Really Birthing Each Month
Praise is not just a worship song or a Sunday morning routine—praise is a lifestyle. As our daily prayer and devotional remind us, Scripture tells us to “pray without ceasing,” and in the same way, we can cultivate a posture of continual praise. God gives abundantly, consistently, and generously. Even in difficult seasons, even in uncertainty, He remains the One who provides every good and perfect gift. Keneesha Saunders-Liddie reminds us that the greatest gift God ever gave was His Son. Christ came to earth, bore our sin, and secured our salvation—a gift precious beyond measure. But God’s generosity did not stop at the cross. He continues to sustain us daily with strength, breath, provision, relationships, and opportunities. James 1:17 emphasizes that God does not change. Unlike people who can be fickle or inconsistent, the Lord is steady and faithful. He does not give gifts only to take them back. He does not shift like shadows. His character is constant, and because of that, our praise should be constant too. Every blessing—big or small—flows from His good hand. Every moment of comfort, peace, joy, and strength is evidence of His loving provision. And even when we walk through trials, His presence and sustaining grace are gifts worth praising Him for. He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and the ultimate source of all goodness. Bible Reading:“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17 Takeaway Truths: God is the source of every good and perfect gift. His character is unchanging, providing stability in an unstable world. Praise is a lifestyle that grows from recognizing God’s constant provision. Let’s Pray Oh Heavenly Father, You are the giver of all good and perfect gifts. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. What a comfort that is to my weary soul. There is evil all around. There are trials and temptations that I have to go through, but You don’t tempt believers with evil. You are the One who gives perfect gifts to Your children. You lead us through temptation, and Jesus has walked the path that we now must walk. There is no temptation that Jesus hasn’t experienced and overcome while He was here on earth. Thank You for being the giver of good gifts. My soul praises and extols Your matchless name because You are Jehovah Jireh, my Provider. You give gifts to me that are wonderful, and even when I have to walk through trials, Your constant presence is there with me. You are unchanging, O God, so that I can depend on You. I will continue to praise and magnify You, O Lord. Let my praises always be on the tip of my tongue. I praise You with my body, with my finances, with my lifestyle, and with everything that You have blessed me with. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. People with mental illness, including bipolar disorder, have long been denied the right to make their own reproductive choices. This episode looks at how psychiatry's history and stigma continue to shape who gets to decide. Dr. Nicole Washington sits down with mental health advocate Dr. Keris Myrick to unpack the intersection of reproductive justice and mental illness — and how stigma, outdated systems, and silence continue to rob people of autonomy over their bodies and futures. Together, they explore the three pillars of reproductive justice — the right to have a child, to not have a child, and to raise a child in a safe environment — through the lens of psychiatric care. Listener takeaways: Learn what a Psychiatric Advance Directive is—and how to create one. Discover how to start meaningful conversations with your providers about family planning. Gain insight into how choice, autonomy, and care can coexist in mental health treatment. Whether you're living with bipolar disorder, a provider, or an advocate, this conversation will challenge your assumptions, break stigma, and offer new ways to protect choice, dignity, and autonomy for all. Our guest, Keris Jän Myrick, PhD (ABD), MBA, MS is a nationally recognized advocate, executive, and storyteller whose work has redefined how we understand and reform mental health and substance use systems. Known for her fierce leadership, creativity, and humanity, Keris brings both lived and learned expertise to every space challenging the status quo and building new paths rooted in dignity and rights. She serves as Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Innovation at Inseparable, where she helps shape mental health policy and practice. Keris also hosts the acclaimed podcast Unapologetically Black Unicorns, co-edits the Lived Experience Inclusion and Leadership column in Psychiatric Services, and serves on the boards of Disability Rights California and the Center for Health Care Strategies. She is an inaugural member of the Global Leadership Exchange (GLE) Lived Experience Council and lives in Los Angeles with her dog, Obi. Our host, Dr. Nicole Washington, is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she attended Southern University and A&M College. After receiving her BS degree, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to enroll in the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. Since completing her residency training, Dr. Nicole has spent most of her career caring for and being an advocate for those who are not typically consumers of mental health services, namely underserved communities, those with severe mental health conditions, and high performing professionals. Through her private practice, podcast, speaking, and writing, she seeks to provide education to decrease the stigma associated with psychiatric conditions. Find out more at DrNicolePsych.com. Our typical cohost, Gabe Howard, is an award-winning podcast host, author, and sought-after suicide prevention and mental health speaker, but he wouldn't be any of those things today if he hadn't been committed to a psychiatric hospital in 2003. Gabe wrote the popular book, "Mental Illness is an Asshole and other Observations," available from Amazon; signed copies are available directly from the author with free swag included! Kirsty Heap is an executive coach, keynote speaker, and neurodiversity advocate who helps individuals and organisations create environments where people can truly thrive. Drawing on her lived experience of dyslexia, she empowers business owners and leaders to understand their strengths, build confidence, and grow sustainably. Kirsty is also the author of Silent Snow, a picture book without words, designed to help you create your own stories with your children. Each page is filled with beautiful illustrations to spark your imagination, making storytime fun and personal. Whether reading has always felt tricky, or you just want to try something different, Silent Snow gives you the freedom to tell stories your own way.The idea for Silent Snow came from Kirsty's own experiences as a dyslexic parent. She used to find reading to her children difficult, and when she stumbled over words, she felt like she was letting them down. But instead of giving up, she started making up her own stories based on their lives and the little adventures they had. Bedtime soon became one of their favourite times of the day.Takeaways: The podcast emphasizes the importance of recognizing and nurturing the strengths associated with dyslexia, rather than merely focusing on the challenges. Kirsty Heap shares her personal journey as a dyslexic parent, highlighting her creative storytelling as a means of connecting with her children. There is a significant need for educational systems to adapt and provide personalized learning experiences for neurodivergent students. The discussion reveals how the implementation of technology, such as dictation software, can greatly enhance learning outcomes for individuals with dyslexia. Kirsty reflects on the profound effect of positive reinforcement and constructive feedback in fostering self-esteem among students with learning differences. The episode advocates for greater transparency and openness among educators regarding their own neurodivergent experiences to better support their students. Gratitude is rarely our first instinct when we’re hurting. In today's prayer and devotional, seasons of loss, grief, or overwhelming uncertainty often make thankfulness feel impossible. Keri Eichberger shares the story of her miscarriage nearly 20 years ago—a season filled with deep pain, grief, and a desperate attempt to regain control. Looking back, she realizes how little gratitude she expressed during that time and how much peace she forfeited by striving instead of surrendering. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us that the pathway to peace is not simply prayer, but prayer with thanksgiving. Gratitude in trials isn’t pretending things aren’t painful; it’s acknowledging God’s presence, goodness, and care—right in the middle of our suffering. Thanksgiving guards our hearts and minds, creating space for the supernatural peace we long for but cannot manufacture on our own. When we thank God—even through tears—we declare by faith that He is working, that He has purpose in our pain, and that His goodness will follow us all the days of our lives. Gratitude doesn’t erase grief, but it anchors us in the truth that God is with us, carrying us, strengthening us, and offering peace the world cannot give. Today's Bible Reading:“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 Takeaway Truths Gratitude is a spiritual discipline that guards our hearts with God’s peace. Peace does not come from control—it comes from surrender. God offers blessings, presence, and purpose even in seasons of deep pain. Let’s Pray Father God, You are my ever-present peace. And though I can become consumed with control, worry, or whatever it is I wish were different, still I know You are there. You are there with perfect peace and boundless blessings, and I am so grateful. Lord, help me acknowledge Your presence. Help me see Your goodness. And help me never forget to express my gratitude to You. You are the giver of all good things; You never stop pouring them out over my life, and I praise You for Your presence and peace that transcend all understanding. In Your Almighty Name, Amen.
