So, in this mini-episode, I'm looking at places to make these shifts, paying close attention to physical health, time blocking, and money. These things are all connected. Physical health impacts mental health, which not only affects our productivity, but also how we show up in our lives. I hope this helps you look at your own alignment as we head into this new season. In this episode you'll hear about:Reimplementing daily morning walks outside, which raises my energy and acts as a transition out of “kid mode” and into “work mode”Analyzing my supplements (including peptide supplements, which I'll talk more about in a future episode), sleep hygiene, and daily movementTime-blocking and being intentional about how I schedule meetings so that I can run my days in a more focused way with less context switchingSaving one day a week where I don't have meetings or calls so I have the option to not work OR make it a creative/dream dayMy weekly “money date” to look at bookkeeping so that I can stay on top of expenses, projections, budgeting, etc.The mindset of trust/abundance vs. the mindset of avoidance – and making sure there's true separation between these two thingsResources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? What I've Learned About the Motherload in 50 Episodes

Today I am celebrating the MotherLoad Podcast's 50th episode! To produce a consistent, high-quality podcast is HARD.I've come to learn that it's rare people get this far and are as consistent as I've been with a podcast. I want to celebrate this milestone by reviewing what I've learned – about podcasting, the motherload, and myself – since launching seven months ago.Do you love your life right now? Ultimately that's the core question I'm trying to get at with MotherLoad: to help mothers love their lives. The way I'm doing it is by being real and honest, which, I've learned, is what people want. I love this podcast, this medium, speaking into this microphone, and the feedback I get from listeners. I feel so called to do this work, and more excited about this mission than I've ever been. Thank you for being here. In this episode you'll hear about:The system I use to manage the podcast and how I've made it as easy and automated as possible so that I continue to love doing itThings I've learned about podcasting (the benefits of a good editor, that not EVERYONE has a great podcast interview, the power of boldness)How metrics matter – but ultimately, only to the extent that you're passionate about what you're doingThe myth that the motherload is mostly task-based – there are also more potent feelings at work regarding grief, safety, and freedomHow common it is that mothers suffer in communicating with their partners, and how so many women hold on to their motherloads on purposeMy thoughts on excellence (trying your hardest, being bold, taking risks) vs. perfection (safe, boring, doing things the way other people are doing it)Resources & LinksIf you've been a longtime listener, I have a favor to ask very openly and humbly: please leave a review for MotherLoad on your favorite podcast listening platform. Reviews help grow the podcast and bring it to new audiences. Thank you for listening to all of these episodes. Did this episode resonate with you? Mini Episode: Why Don't We Burn the Nice Candles?

I have a collection of fancy bath bombs and salts I've been given as gifts. But when I went to take a bath the other day, I hesitated to use them in case the kids got in the tub with me; I didn't want to waste them if it was going to be a kid bath.Because I'm so in tune with my relationship around money during my “$100K in 100 days” challenge, it struck me as a scarcity belief – which is what today's mini-episode is about. Where do scarcity beliefs come from? And how do they hold us back? Why didn't I feel I could use the fancy bath bombs and salts? And similarly, why don't I burn my nice candles? Part of it involves wanting to save these things for a “special occasion” – but honestly, we're not guaranteed tomorrow. Why not enjoy them TODAY?I did take a bath with the fancy bath bombs, and my kids did join me. And you know what? They thought it was amazing, seeing flower petals floating around. It became a beautiful, special moment, and a core memory for us.In this episode you'll hear about:How technically, the bath bombs and candles were sunk costs; the money had already been spent, so where was this mentality coming from?Part of this scarcity belief is me feeling I don't deserve these things and that I shouldn't have spent the money to begin withAnother scarcity belief: that I had to “earn it” and do something big that day to be able to do something nice for myselfThe idea of “saving this for the future” or for a special occasion – which is an indication I'm living more in the future than in the present Self-reflection: what nice things around your house are you not using? What clothes/make-up/soap/salts/ingredients do you only wear or use sparingly?Resources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? Fast-forward to twenty years from now. Imagine you have the chance to go back in time to RIGHT NOW.What would you come back to do over? Would you focus your time on rushing your kids to school so you can build your business? Or would you take a moment and appreciate them at this age right now? It's one of the questions our guest Allie Bjerk proposes in today's episode.Allie is an expert on passive income and has built a multiple 7-figure business – all while being a mother of three and maintaining “white space” for time with family. So many people think you need a huge sum of money before passive income investments kick back, but Allie is proof it can start with one small thing at a time.Allie and I talk in-depth about balancing the motherload with a successful business, which at times, means being BRUTAL about how we spend our time in terms of return on investment – and remembering what's ACTUALLY most precious at this moment. In this episode you'll hear about:How Allie's business started with social media/ads/website design, and how launching a $27 product changed everything, eventually generating $1 millionHow we spend our time in terms of R.O.I. and M.V.P. (minimal viable product) – what's the least amount of work that needs to be done for something to sell?Making the decision to NOT do things that take up too much time and don't generate a lot of revenueThe importance of a morning ritual for Allie, which involves journaling and exerciseBeing intentional about the time she spends with her kids; Allie was never at a point where she wasn't seeing her kids at all and working 80-hour weeksHow Allie constantly reevaluates the structure of her days and her business to have the flexibility and “white space” to live the life she wantsResources & LinksBe sure to check out Allie's podcast, The Decision Maker Show. Do mothers feel safe to express their mental load? The reason I ask is that I'd venture that most of us DON'T feel safe expressing our mental loads to the people closest to us.When I say “feel safe,” what I mean is that mothers feel like they can be HONEST with their partners, family members or on social media without being gaslighted, questioned, disagreed with, or made to feel stupid for speaking their truth. Many of us are afraid to say this is hard due to getting pushback or comments like well, you chose this. You chose to have kids. You chose this partner. But just because we chose something, doesn't mean it's not hard.So that's today's episode – do you feel safe expressing your truth? If not, why? What is at the root of your hesitation? In this episode you'll hear about:How expressing our truths is NOT an invalidation of someone else's truth – it's about being SEEN in the context of the villageThat fear for speaking our truths could also be a cultural phenomenon; we're afraid of being different or expressing our need for more supportThe shared experience that results when we create more opportunities for mothers to express truths without feeling judged/shamed/wrong/ungratefulQuestions to ask yourself if you DON'T feel safe expressing your motherload: what would make you feel safe? What are you scared of? How it went when I told my partner I wanted him to turn his phone off when he came home to be more present for the kids (hint: it went well)The value in looking at these questions regularly, which can illuminate areas of our inner worlds we might not be aware ofResources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? In my opinion, there are some things you're only going to solve by going within. In those moments of panic or defeat, it takes resilience to go within and trust that this setback doesn't have to mean anything about us. This is a circumstance we're in, but there IS a way forward. This is one of the big subjects in today's episode with Emily Potter, a functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner, entrepreneur, and mother of two. There are two words known as the “death codes.” I know this sounds dramatic and a little woo-woo. But hear me out.The words? Resentment. Regret.I learned about the potency of these words during a plant medicine ceremony I did in September. The shaman told us these two words are the ones that will kill us the fastest, our energetic imprints on humanity erased most quickly by living in energies of resentment and regret.I want to talk about these words in a practical sense because I see their presence a great deal in my clients' motherloads and in my own. I encourage you to do some intentional inquiry about them, maybe while journaling, walking, thinking, meditating – wherever this inquiry has space to come through for you. So: RESENTMENT. REGRET. How do these words show up in your life? How do they affect how you go out and live in the world? In this episode you'll hear about:Resentment: bitterness and insidious anger made more potent by adding an an assignment of blameBuilding an awareness: where does resentment live in your body? Is it directed at a person? An entity? Life in general? What is it limiting?Asking further: how powerful is this resentment? Why are you holding onto it? And what is it feeding off?Regret: a sadness about how something happened; about a decision we did or didn't make; about a version of us that did or didn't happen due to somethingHow so much of our identities can be hampered/handicapped by harboring resentment/regret, and how past traumas can feel different in motherhoodThe core emotions underneath these words – anger and sadness – and how the more time spent here, the more the world reflects that back to usResources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? She's a survivor of child abuse and sexual and physical abuse and has been featured in many publications for her work helping women heal trauma and grow soul-aligned businesses. In this episode, Jaymie and I discuss finding identity after abuse – for her it involved consciously approaching life and motherhood with a sense of building safety instead of hypervigilance – and approaching controversial topics within our families. This conversation is so important because when we're rooted in our identities as mothers, it's easier to hold space for uncomfortable conversations and be confident in our beliefs – which consequently makes us better versions of ourselves, too.In this episode you'll hear about:Jaymie's background: her traumatic childhood; losing her father and brother due to drugs and gang violence, respectively; and becoming a mom at age 20How Tony Robbins and personal development changed her life – and how that ultimately affected how she parented, tooJaymie's advice: make a list of where you want to be and where you are now; then, figure out how to fill the gaps to get to that version of your future selfBeing the victor instead of the victim and CHOOSING what to take forward, what to leave behind; what matters is how we move forwardTaking audits of our days and relying on intuition in our choices as parents vs. researching different points of view against what we innately feelPracticing being uncomfortable and holding safe places to have hard conversations with other mothers, whether they agree with you or notResources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? This January, I took time to think about the podcast – to record solo episodes, quality interviews, and to pour my energy into the programming component of MotherLoad. My main love is the podcast. I love the interviews we get to do here. I love the conversations we've been having. My goal, every episode, is to put words to a feeling other moms might have had, and to be real about the things I never heard people talk about when I first became a mom. But I've been thinking: what kinds of programs might compliment it? I'm not a parenting expert – by nature, I'm a growth and performance coach. I like helping people feel better and improve their lives. I've been this way ever since I was a teenager, browsing the self-help books at Barnes & Noble. Today, I'm breaking down the new facets of the MotherLoad Company, but I also want to thank you for being a listener and being part of this amazing community. In this episode you'll hear about:The core MotherLoad programs – MotherLoad Collective (for any ambitious woman) and MotherLoad Mastermind (for moms growing their businesses), which you can learn more about on my websiteThe make-up of these programs, which will be deeply rooted in inner work, performance, growth, self-actualization, mindfulness, alignment, etc.Trainings and what's included with each program (monthly phone calls, group coaching calls, one-on-ones, time management/organizational resources, etc.)Two retreats I'm hosting in my mountain house here in Colorado, “Replenish,” which will take place Summer Solstice weekend and Fall Equinox weekendThe special guests who will be part of these programs and speak on ambition, identity, inner work, business, entrepreneurship, and motherhoodWhat we have planned for the podcast in the year ahead, which will start rolling out Mondays and ThursdaysResources & LinksDid this episode resonate with you? Mini Episode: Exploring Scarcity During the Holidays

Today's mini episode is about a huge topic: scarcity. RT and I have talked a lot about our philosophy regarding gift-giving during the holidays. Gifts on Christmas morning, writing a long letter to Santa – how do we want to intentionally bring those things into our family? Or not?Last year, we went on a trip, and this year, we're doing it again. We told our kids this is our family Christmas present. When we return home on Christmas day, each will have one thing from Santa under the tree. But recently I've been second-guessing myself because of some core memories that popped up from my childhood. Am I going to create scarcity in my children if they don't wake up on Christmas morning to a bunch of presents under the tree?My gut says no. But all this is to say, gift-giving during the holidays is a big part of the mental load. How much is too much? Will an experience mean more than getting something tangible? Is there any way to know which of these decisions is best?Resources & LinksDo you need a template to assess your core values? Reach out to me via DM on my Instagram page. Has becoming a mother ever made your role at work feel irrelevant? Have you ever sat at your desk, and asked yourself, WHY? What is the point of this?In the millennial generation, I think there's this huge existential question about motherhood. As kids, ambition was baked into us – with nothing about how our ambitions are aligned with our identities and values. This episode features Part 2 of my conversation with Amber Lilyestrom – a business mentor, branding expert, author, speaker, and mom to two miracle babies. She is also my personal mentor and full of wisdom and honesty about her big and bittersweet moments in motherhood and business. (Check out Part 1 of our conversation, too!)The buzzword in today's episode: HONESTY. As Amber points out, it takes so much courage to be honest about what you desire and what you want to create for your life. In this episode you'll hear about:The ups, downs and bittersweet moments Amber had in the process of adopting her son AlexHow to stop associating our self-worth with the output of our work – and where we still have to go regarding this issueThe bigger existential questions and evolutions about motherhood in our culture – and how to stand up for ourselves in the ambition cultureThe reasons that martyrdom exists in motherhood and in work – and how we can do things differently for ourselves and our kidsWhy “straight-line strategizing” doesn't work for moms (it's a curvy-lined world for us!), and why it's so hard (we never saw it exceptionally modeled!)How there is no “correct” ratio of work and time at home that will promise fulfillment; what's important is to navigate what feels right NOWResources & LinksFollow Amber on Instagram and check out her website and her podcast for more of her wisdom. Can we really do it all?I've thought a lot about this motherload question. It's a big, existential question – but it can also feel like a loaded question. Sometimes it seems to imply that, to do it all, you have to do it ALL, with no help from anyone else. And if that's the question – can you do it all with no help – I think the answer is no.But what if we took a step back and looked at that question as a broader life design question. Is it possible to love your life fully? Is it possible for you to have everything you want: the career; the partnership; the relationship with your children? If that's what that means, then I think the answer is yes. I do think it's possible.Resources & LinksIf you want to go more in-depth in organizational leadership, be sure to check out Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman and Mark C. We had a rough go with the flu in my household over the Thanksgiving holiday.I tend to pride myself on being well and putting myself first in terms of my own well-being, so not only was I surprised to go down so hard with this bug, it also made me mad at myself. As I say a lot in this show, when I hit rock bottom in my life, it was because I'd been putting myself at the end of my priority list. I was not listening to what I mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually needed. If I am not well, then nothing else in my life works, and my foundation was so bad that everything else fell apart. So today I want to talk about prioritization – specifically, prioritizing your physical well-being – so that when the flu or COVID, or whatever it is, comes around to your home, you can be resilient. All at once, we have to help our kids heal, get everything done, while also taking care of OURSELVES.Which, inevitably, can make us feel guilty. Should we rest? Or just power through? In our conversation, we tackle the impact of ALLOWING ourselves to question these feelings of guilt instead of avoiding them; the importance of talking about the hard parts of motherhood; and the power of validating each others' experiences.Resources & LinksCheck out the Project: Mom Podcast and follow Emily on Instagram.Did this episode resonate with you? When I hit rock bottom in 2020, it felt like the basement of my soul was full. Then I'd close it quickly, not wanting to deal with that right now. My basement was a dark, scary place to be.But as I hit rock bottom, and RT and I separated for a period, I couldn't NOT ignore that door any longer. My basement was bursting at the seams, and I was confronted with this opportunity to begin my inner work in earnest.
