POPULARITY
Is the pendulum swinging back against gender equality, with aggression and misogyny encouraged by influencers and populist leaders championing traditional roles and behaviour? Is the rise in attacks on women a symptom of this? Is there a risk of young men being drawn to a masculinity that glorifies violence, and gives them a role and purpose they lack? Phil and Roger explore all this with Dr Elizabeth Pearson of Royal Holloway University of London, author of “Extreme Britain: Gender, Masculinity and Radicalisation in Britain.” Hosted on Acast. Is misogyny implicated in radicalisation, across the political spectrum? Laurie Taylor talks to Elizabeth Pearson, Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London about her primary research among two of Britain's key extremist movements: the banned Islamist group al-Muhajiroun, and those networked to it; and the anti-Islam radical right, including the English Defence League, For Britain and Britain First. Also, Katherine Williams, a former post-doctoral student in Politics and International Relations at Cardiff University, explores women's engagement with the far right and queries the notion that women do not support such politics, given the contemporary resurgence and global electoral successes of the far right, in its many guises. When I heard my friend Elizabeth was coming out with a new book, I moved my calendar around to make sure she could come on the podcast to talk about it with me. She is one of those coaches who I always want to hear from, and after listening to this episode, I think you will too. Elizabeth Pearson is a Professional Coach, Spiritual Seeker, Writer, Wife, and Mom who specializes in getting women "unstuck" so they can achieve their highest goals. In her 15-yr sales career, she generated and managed over $20 million of business for both large corporations and scrappy startups. She was successful because of the sky-high expectations she set for herself coupled with a never-give-up attitude -- both attributes she now instills in her clients so they can crush whatever goals they have for themselves. So why did she ditch her lucrative (and cushy) career in sales to start her own coaching business? Because being of service to other women is her true passion; not making rich people richer. Over the last 7 years, she became an insatiable student of personal and professional development. In the meantime, she gave birth to 2 children, moved cross-country, and battled chronic pain and past traumas. Her mission is to leave this earth knowing that she made a positive impact on other women's lives and inspired them to follow their passions and achieve greatness. In this episode Elizabeth shares wisdom from her new book, Career Confinement, about the truth underneath why you don't like your job or larger career. She gives helpful tips about how to move through paid, build on joy, and create sustainable success. Here's what you will learn: How seeing her husband in pain taught Elizabeth life lessons (6:30) Why allowing yourself to cry can help to cope (14:28) The importance of building joy over pain (23:21) Realizing that excitement and hope are a part of success (30:46) Why preparation is essential to speaking up (37:29) How tapping can help in centering yourself (44:15) What did you learn from this episode? How do we really live our best life, at peace with ourselves? And how can we apply a spiritual awareness to our busy lives, which are so full of work and distraction? How can we live in the moment, in alignment, in the zone? How create space for spiritual experience in our lives without our minds getting in the way? How do we allow glace to come into our lives? If we find our cup drained, the energy we have to give, run out, what does it tell us about how we our living our lives and how can we resolve that? Does meditation have to be traditional meditation? We might as well try changing things, and see if it improves our lived experience for the better. Elizabeth has some helpful tips to offer in that regard. https://www.elizabethpearson.com

Episode 66. Are you living the life you think you wanted, but wake up every day waiting for it to end, to begin again? Did the role models in your life, when you were growing up, influence what you thought you wanted, or make you strive for something that just is not what you want? If so, today is your day, and this episode may help move you forward if you really want a change. Listen as we talk with Elizabeth Pearson, who is a nationally recognized executive career coach, speaker, and forthcoming author. She is a money mindset expert specializing in helping women entrepreneurs and executives increase their income by at least an additional six figures within a year. Passionate about helping women get unstuck, uncovering limiting beliefs and energetic blocks, Elizabeth routinely helps her clients get promotions, large salary raises and tap into their true passions. During this process, she helps them identify their calling so that they can do what they love and make a great living in the process. With a BA in journalism, Elizabeth climbed the career ladder in the traditional corporate world where she managed multi-million dollar accounts. After launching her coaching business in 2016 Elizabeth walked away from her corporate career, so she could devote herself to serving her coaching clients, writing, and speaking. Having achieved multiple six figures in her first year running the business, Elizabeth continues to grow and support her clients, who typically see significant improvement within just weeks of working with her. A contributor to Forbes magazine, she regularly appears in the media both in business and spiritual publications. We discuss so many key topics, such as these and so much more: How women can uncover who they really are, what they want and where they want to go. What are our limiting beliefs and how can we get over them? What is the main block to women reaching their full potential? What are the strategies to overcome fear that stops us from making change in our lives? Is it talent or grit that makes the difference? “If you're feeling resistance, it probably means that you're starting to take risks and get out of your comfort zone.” Elizabeth Pearson (24:05-24:11) We all face resistance and self-doubt in life. Whether it’s in our work, at home, or in other areas of life, resistance can keep us from achieving our true potential. How do we overcome resistance and the limiting beliefs that come with it? Like many women, Elizabeth Pearson found herself wanting more out of life. She felt something was missing, despite having a successful career, a wonderful husband, two beautiful daughters, and a house in the suburbs. “What if everything you’ve ever believed about your life was a lie? You can feel and believe differently about anything and everything you want. It’s all about perception.” - Diane Forster (15:03-15:18) Elizabeth worked with multi-million dollar brands like Wal-Mart, Amazon, Target, Whole Foods, and Vitamin Water. But a corporate sales career wasn’t the fulfilling life she’d set out to achieve. Elizabeth soon followed her passion for coaching others and launched her business in 2016. She’s now a public speaker and executive career coach who specializes in helping women executives and entrepreneurs increase their income by at least six figures within a year. 3 Ways to Stop Resistance and Self-Doubt If you want to find fulfillment in life, you must first identify the resistance and self-doubt, take control, and stop them from holding you back from all you were meant to achieve. There are major ways to do this. Get the Support You Need Most people measure their value by their level of activity. The busier they are, the more self-worth they think they have. Asking for support isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s actually just the opposite. The right support system helps you move past resistance. Elite-level athletes, executives, and entrepreneurs have all tapped into the power of coaching. It’s a great way to leverage the experience and expertise of others who’ve paved the same path you’re on. Take Some Action Every Single Day It’s easy to get overwhelmed by everything you need to do. But when you break down goals into smaller tasks, it’s easier to manage and take actions that move you forward. When you set goals, create an action plan with small steps you can take each day. Commit to taking some action every single day to build momentum over time. “When you stop taking action, you're dead in the water. Keep moving every single day towards your goal… even if it feels like a baby step.” - Elizabeth Pearson (22:31-22:41) Do Something That Would Make Your Future Self Proud One day you’ll look back on your journey and see the obstacles you overcame to reach your goals. So imagine what would make your future self proud and do those things today. This could be scheduling a call with a coach or enrolling in an online course you’ve been wanting to do. Thinking about what would make your future self proud is an easy way to identify the steps you can start to take on your journey towards creating the life you want. Everyone has some level of greatness within them. Getting the support you need, taking action every day, and making your future self proud are three simple ways to move through resistance and claim the success you deserve. “If you believe you deserve money and find gratitude in what you already have, you're on the fast track to manifesting more money into your life.” Elizabeth Pearson (53:58-54:08) Whether you're changing careers or going off on your own, taking a pay cut can be one of the biggest fear-inducing obstacles you face. In order to live the life you want, you can't let your fears around money dictate the decisions you make. Instead, cultivate the belief that you are worthy of money instead of seeing abundance as something only others deserve. “Mediocrity is relative to each person. There's no level of success that can be labeled as ‘good enough' or not. It's about what feels true to you.” - Elizabeth Pearson (7:08-7:20) Elizabeth Pearson is a public speaker and executive career coach. She helps women, entrepreneurs, and executives increase their income by an additional six figures within a year's time. Her work is rooted in helping others understand how they think about money and the fears that impact their everyday lives. Elizabeth climbed the career ladder working with multimillion dollar brands like Coca-Cola and Vitamin Water. But she soon found that something was missing in her life. The career she set out to achieve wasn't giving her the fulfillment she once had. She eventually left her corporate career and launched her coaching business. The lessons she learned along the way have helped her clients transition into the careers and lives that truly make them happy. The Money Mindset Obstacles of Today's Working Women The feeling that there's something more for you is your inner voice telling you that you might be moving in the wrong direction. It's up to you to listen to that voice and take action. As women, we aren't taught to think about what we want and bring it into reality. Most of us learn that we have to just be kind to others and take care of everyone else before we take care of ourselves. “Having an abundant mindset and understanding your beliefs about money, and what they're costing you in life, allows you to move forward in a much more impactful and much more aligned way.” - Blake Schofield (1:00:03-1:00:20) Overcoming Money Fears and Creating the Life You Want It can be difficult to spend the time, energy, money, and other resources to invest in ourselves. Many of us stopped investing in personal development once we received our college degree. When we're stuck in a place of unfulfillment, personal development can be exactly what we need to get back on track. Investing in a coach or mentor is one of the best ways to identify limiting beliefs and develop new believe that will propel you towards whatever you want out of life. Learn to spend money with an open heart instead of a scarcity mindset. Only then can it be a positive transfer of energy. When moving into a new season of life, it can be easy to hate on others who seem to have unlimited financial resources. However, when you stay in this mindset you hold yourself back from attaining the same financial abundance that others have created for themselves. A scarcity mindset forces you to cut back on the things that bring you joy. The fear that there is never enough limits the ability you have to live in abundance. Sometimes our fears about money are tied to our self-worth. When you believe you deserve the good things in life while having gratitude for the things you already have, you manifest more abundance in your work and move forward in a more impactful and meaningful way. It's time to stop letting the fear of money hold you back from all that you are meant to achieve. Don't let fear cost you the fulfillment you deserve.
