A lot of the things we perceive as weaknesses within ourselves go all the way back to childhood experiences and how these were framed by our parents. Under the influence of toxic diet culture, it's hard, even impossible to have any measure of self-acceptance. The meaning of life becomes how much we weigh, not about using the powerful voices we have for anything other than derogatory statements towards ourselves. The MerryMaker Sisters experienced the pain that comes with subscribing to a harmful model of fitness, and they created a program to combat it. Why do we have to stop using dieting as a way to demean ourselves? How do we take care of our bodies from a loving place? In this episode, Carla and Emma Papas share how they built their membership on self-acceptance and joy. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode The story of MerryBody How do we apply a test-test-test approach to building our programs and infuse it with real feedback from the people we want to help? How to use exercise to celebrate your body, not punish it Why is diet culture so destructive to our self-acceptance, belief and ability to tap into our magic? The power of mindset and meditation How do we turn our minds into our greatest cheerleader instead of our most unkind critic? Guest Bio Emma and Carla Papas are the Founders of The Merrymaker Sisters and Merrybody Studio. They started The Merrymaker Sisters as a hobby in 2013, and it began as a blog to simply share their favorite healthy recipes, thoughts on mindset, dieting, fitness and life in general. Through their journey with Yoga, Pilates and Meditation Emma and Carla realized the only thing that truly matters is how we feel about ourselves right NOW, not when we lose a specific number of kgs or fit into that dress. Yoga, Pilates and Meditation was the key to realizing that right here, right now…you are absolutely, 100% enough. Their goal is simple: they want you to come on over to their site, read, watch, move with them, cook with them and feel more self-acceptance, self-respect and more joy. Society has a way of conditioning us to ignore our own souls in favor of the ego. As a result, many people walk the conventional path and find themselves in deep inner pain; looking successful on the surface, but with their souls desperately screaming in pain for something higher. This is the experience Michael Brant DeMaria had - burying his true self for his initial career path, then breaking away from that conditioning to build the life he truly wanted. The experience provided a profound healing, a course correction and gave him a vision for his life. Ever since his mission has been to help guide others to what he calls, “The ocean of peace that lies within.” He does this through his work as a musician, artist, poet, filmmaker and teacher. As entrepreneurs, there are two ways we can go about achieving our goals. Sprint non-stop, live in turbulence and arrive at the destination exhausted; or get into the space beneath the noise and achieve from a place of flow. As renowned transformative teacher and author Michael Neill defines it, it's the difference between running on the river bed carrying our canoes on our heads and putting the canoe in the water and sailing effortlessly. Of course, we have to work hard and put in the hours, but how hard and how tiring it will be is a function of how we go about it. How do we tap into stillness so that our best work never feels forced? In this episode, Michael Neill shares how we can have so much flow that our dream lives emerge from us without friction or exhaustion. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Michael's journey and what it taught him What leads to anxiety and depression, and how do we overcome our tendancy towards overthinking? Why staying in sprint mode is unsustainable Most people try to achieve by working from the surface. Can we get to our goals faster by digging deeper? Diminishing returns vs. accelerated returns Instead of seeing work-life balance as a scale, why do we need to shift to seeing it as a series of concentric circles with us as the center? Guest Bio Michael Neill is an internationally renowned transformative teacher, author, broadcaster, and speaker, described as having the unique ability to “blend the sacred with the profane”. The inside-out understanding at the heart of his work challenges the cultural mythology that stress, pressure, and other symptoms of “seriousness” are a necessary part of adaptation and growth in business or indeed any area of life. In his role as CEO of Genius Catalyst Inc. since its inception in the UK in 1990 to its incorporation in the USA in 2007, Michael has spearheaded its growth from consultancy to a multi-media organization delivering services to tens of thousands of loyal customers each year through live training, online courses, and self-study programs. He has also spent more than three decades as a coach, adviser, friend, mentor, and creative spark plug to founders, CEO's, celebrities, royalty, and those who are up to something in the world. His global client base is wide and diverse, having served clients in North America, UK, Europe, and the Middle East in the fields of investment, sales, energy, manufacturing, the entertainment and media industry, and more. Trauma governs how we behave in every aspect of our lives because its residue is stored in our psyches, and clouds the stories we tell ourselves. Our traumas obviously come up in our businesses - but we often overlook the very basic place in which they play out, our understanding of masculinity and femininity. There is a blueprint of a man's behavior that our society perpetuates, and the sad truth is, a lot of it is informed by negative experiences and “immature masculinity”. What are some of the traumas that inform how men act? How do we review the stories we've told ourselves and rewrite them in the vein of enlightenment? In this episode, I'm joined by Aaron J. Fulton, a life coach who helps men rewrite their masculinity. We talk about how society's views on men and women affect relationships, families and businesses. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode How trauma creates false stories It's okay to reflect on past disappointments but when does it become harmful to keep hanging onto painful experiences? The root of immature masculinity Many men derive the blueprint of their behavior on what they grew up in without seeing the emotions behind it. How do they rewrite their masculinity around something healthier? How women can find their power by tapping into their “inner Eve” What steps can women take to address issues without activating their partner's defense mechanisms? Guest Bio Aaron J. Fulton is a life coach and the CEO of Embodied Vision Coaching. He helps men rewrite the false stories that have limited their masculinity, relationships, and identity so they can create stronger connections with their families, friends, and most importantly themselves. A few years ago, webinars were all the rage for entrepreneurs who wanted to promote their products, give people a sample of what they offer and see if they are the right fit. And they worked. Now, you're lucky if the people who register even show up, and when they do attend, they're more likely to be multitasking and half listening instead of actually engaging with our content. Maybe it's because we're all so burned out on Zoom, or people don't want to be sold to - but it's so much harder for webinars to be truly valuable. So what do we do instead if we want to transform more lives? In this episode, I talk about why paid workshops can support you better than webinars. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Why free webinars might not be all they're cracked up to be Webinars are what so many entrepreneurs do to generate leads, but when we really think about them are they actually effective? The better way to promote our offers How do we create a highly immersive introductory experience so distinct that potential clients won't have to guess if it's right for them? How to make transformation happen at every point in your funnel Is it possible to strike a balance between a low financial commitment and enough skin in the game for someone to actually show up to our workshop and invest their time and energy?
As entrepreneurs, selling comes with the job. We have to put ourselves out there and offer what we have to transform lives, but what happens when the idea of selling feels gross, pushy and difficult? Sales aversion is a really common problem I see in a lot of clients - no matter how much they know, and how many people they have helped. Stumbling in sales is driven by deeply-rooted beliefs about who we are, and yes, it might just go back to childhood trauma. How do we unearth why sales feels so difficult for us, and how do we create a healthier understanding of what it means to sell? In this episode, we're going to talk about sales aversion, where it comes from and what to do about it. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode My own journey with sales and sales aversion Is it possible to be a fabulous salesperson with a track record of transforming lives and still have a hard time putting ourselves out there? Where our fear of sales come from How do we trace back to the true source of our sales aversion and pinpoint other areas it shows up? How to reframe how you view sales How do we stop seeing selling as being pushy and yucky and start seeing it as a good thing?
Childhood trauma doesn't just show up in our productivity (or lack thereof), it's also evident in our relationships. People with trauma tend to want to save other people, which only results in the draining and challenging relationships that plummet our productivity. In a healthy, balanced, and harmonious relationship, you're both willing to do the work to save yourselves individually, instead of one person doing the heavy lifting to support an irretrievably broken partner. How do we know if our relationship choices are coming from trauma, and how do we heal so we can create more balanced partnerships? In this episode, I'm going to talk about the close link between trauma, productivity and relationships. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode The healthy way to help and support others Entrepreneurship tends to attract people with childhood trauma who want to help people with their challenges. When does this need to help and serve cross into unhealthy territory? Why trying to save other people makes us less productive We all have our own experiences with trauma, but what makes someone irretrievably broken? How to shift from wanting to fix people to doing the necessary work on ourselves How do we do the work so we don't need to overextend ourselves or save other people to feel valued?
With inflation and interest rates on the rise, we can also expect the cost of living to increase along with them, and that's exactly what's happening right now. This means the dream of homeownership is quickly slipping from the fingers of many people who just can't meet the financial requirements of buying a home - even if they have jobs. This is why entrepreneurship is more important now than ever before. It's the only way we can determine our own income and the lives we want to live. How can we create more freedom for ourselves so we're not faced with the reality of traditional jobs not being able to cover rising costs? In this episode, I'm going to talk about some worrying stats I saw recently, and how we can break free from financial uncertainty. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode The power of owning your own business What are some of the awesome freedoms entrepreneurship gives us access to? How the financial situation is affecting even the most gainfully employed people Why is buying a home becoming a more difficult dream to accomplish? Why everyone should have multiple streams of income How do we increase our income stability in the face of rising financial pressures? As entrepreneurs serving our clients, we're fiercely passionate about what we do, but that doesn't mean we have to spend 80-hour weeks on our businesses to the detriment of everything else in our lives. Even in the most labor-intensive, client-centric industry, we have the ability to create a lifestyle that works for us, and that includes how and when we work. Once we do away with the belief that we have to be busy all the time, we can actually create the schedule we want. In my case, I'm able to work 45 hours a month and have a thriving business, but I had to make some changes. How do we start getting more intentional with our schedules? In this episode, I'm going to share how I created a schedule that fits in well with the life that I want. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode The limiting belief that keeps us working more than we need to Do we have to work all the time in order to stop feeling like we're lazy for having free time? Why systems give us security and much needed calm How do we create an organized system for every area of our lives, even if we're really not the most organized people in the world? The power of a more aligned schedule Why does leaving ample breathing room in our schedules allow us to do what we do at the highest level?
It's that time of the year where we start thinking a little more about improving ourselves, and very often, it's by way of coaching programs. But before we jump into anything, sign any contracts, and spend thousands of dollars, some critical questions need to be asked. Where is this desire coming from? Are there other ways to approach the course, and if so, should we even join the course at all? How do we make sure we sign up for the right program for the right reasons? In this episode, I'm going to share the first thing we need to do before committing to a course or certification. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode How to identify your intention behind starting a new program Could self-doubt be the real reason you want to sign up for a new course, and how do we combat it? Different ways we can make use of a coaching program Is this course something you should be doing as the business owner, or is it better suited to someone on your team? How to identify the right program for us A program and its creator can be really great but still not right for us. How has this lesson showed up in my own life?
Every single January, we're bombarded with all sorts of marketing messages about New Year's Resolutions and the idea that we're just going to wipe the slate clean, but there's a reason why this approach fails in a matter of weeks. We don't become different people overnight, and the healthier way to make a change is to set a theme or intention for the year. That way, there's no stress, no pressure and no immediate feelings of failure. How do we actually set an intention that really resonates with us? Why is it important to be open to however the intention shows up in our lives? In this episode, I'm going to talk about why we need to kick New Year's Resolutions to the curb and what to adopt instead. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Why our resolutions never work out the way we want How do New Year's resolutions set us up for stress, guilt and other not so great feelings? How to create a better ride to the end of the year Why do New Year's intentions leave the door open for possibilities and pleasant surprises while resolutions limit us? Why we need to be kind to ourselves as we implement our intentions As we move toward our goals, can we expect our past counterproductive behaviors to magically disappear?
“Feeling the need to be busy all the time is a trauma response and fear-based distraction from what you'd be forced to acknowledge and feel if you slowed down.” I came across this impactful quote on Pinterest, and it really rings true when it comes to the connection between our childhood trauma and our productivity. When we have this insatiable need to be busy all the time, it's because we're hiding from our own trauma, and it keeps us stuck and treading water instead of getting to the shore of our dreams. What's the difference between being productive and just being busy? How do we overcome the need to always be on the go? In this episode, I'm going to share why finding our productive flow starts with healing our trauma. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Defining childhood trauma Childhood trauma isn't necessarily abuse or extreme negative experiences. What are some of the factors that can haunt our inner monologue well into adulthood? Why avoiding our trauma doesn't make it go away Hiding from our trauma and refusing to face it isn't healing, it's treading water. How do we stop swimming in place and actually start moving towards the shore? How I went from keeping busy to avoid trauma to slowing down and loving life Is it possible to achieve all our goals, while working less because we're productive for the right reasons?
Every new version of ourselves, and new iteration of who we are is like a human software update. But as the new version starts to install, we often try to hold on for dear life to who we were before - with not-so-great results. Transitions are definitely scary, but the more we resist them - the harder it is for us to level up. What feelings can we expect when we start changing and growing? How do we mourn and let go of who we used to be? In this episode, I talk about the process of growth, and why the best part of it is also the most terrifying. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode The feelings triggered by change Letting go of the old version of ourselves comes with a grieving process. Yes, it's terrifying, but is it worth it? How to bid adieu to the last iteration of ourselves The person you were before brought you this far. How do we celebrate and honor them, but still make sure they don't overstay their welcome? Why we hold on too long to the old versions of ourselves What's the one reason we experience so much anxiety when we're going through a transition period?
Every business owner has two types of tasks - “I have to” tasks and “I'm excited to” tasks - and there is usually a pretty clear indication of what lights us up. It reminds me of this really powerful quote by Abraham Hicks… “Motivation is forcing yourself to do something you don't want to do, and inspiration is having a clear picture of what you want to achieve and letting universal forces come into play to get to the outcome.” Why do we really drag our feet on certain tasks? What do we do about the activities that just aren't clicking with us? In this episode, I'm going to talk about the difference between motivation and inspiration and how to create a natural momentum to get things done. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Why we procrastinate When we find ourselves saying, “I know what I'm supposed to do, but I don't know why I'm not doing it”, what does that tell us? The emotional impact of letting go If you realize that you need to let go of something that doesn't light you up, how do you combat the inevitable fear that comes with it? How to change how you approach your tasks What's the difference between people who are fueled by motivation and people who are fueled by inspiration?
Traditionally when we set our business goals, we do so around a certain dollar amount or hitting a specific number. The challenge with this approach is that it doesn't truly spark our motivation, because believe it or not, most of us aren't actually money-focused people. What's the most productive way to set our goals, and how do we start identifying what actually drives us? In this episode, I share how to start setting goals that inspire and fuel you to take action. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode How to set goals that keep you motivated and focused When it comes to setting goals, money is just a means to an end. How do we identify what we're really after? The path to productive goal setting What do we need to ask ourselves in order to set our goals more effectively? How to set goals around what inspires you If you love helping and serving people, how do you make that part of the goals you set?
