Broken for Blessing

Scripture: John 6:1-15, 35; Mark 8:5-7Sermon Title Suggestion: Broken for Blessing: The Dynamics of MultiplicationIntro: Deep gratitude for Radiant church – our "you're not crazy cousin"! You embody shared family values: unwavering commitment to Scripture's authority and the Gospel's centrality, a deep hunger for the Holy Spirit, and a wild hope for revival. You believe God isn't done with California, value elder-led teams, local roots with a global heart, and dream of multiplying churches. This message, drawing from "Broken for Blessing," is to fortify you for your next 20 years of fruitfulness. May this be a fresh, specific word from the Lord for Radiant.Key Points: 5 Dynamics of Christ's Multiplication (John 6)Life is in the Message, Not the Model (John 6:35): The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the true Bread of Life, is the multiplying power. Church planting models ("baskets") are secondary and will change; the message of Jesus' brokenness for our wholeness is eternal and what truly nourishes. Don't merely become experts in models; remain passionately in love with Jesus and His message. Remember: "My bad... You're good" – this is the Gospel! No Multiplication Without Subtraction (John 6:11): Just as the boy offered his entire lunch, true multiplication demands sacrifice. Jesus will ask us to put our best resources—our time, finances, and even our best leaders—into His hands, sometimes leaving us feeling hungry or stretched for a season so others might be filled. This is vital for a faith legacy that inspires future generations, fighting conservatism and embracing holy risk.Anointed Administration is a Jesus Thing (John 6:10; Mark 6:40): Jesus didn't just perform a miracle; He organized it, having people sit in groups. Effective administration is a spiritual gift, partnering with the prophetic, not opposing it. Radiant, as you grow, don't resist God-given systems and structures that facilitate further healthy multiplication.God's Abundant Provision AND Disruption (John 6:12-13): God always gives back more than we offer (12 baskets full!), but it often returns as "fragments"—raw potential, not always the finished product. This means a life of continual formation, raising new leaders, and embracing the disruption this brings. This keeps the church healthy and reliant on God, not just a few gifted individuals.Disciples Catch a Culture of Multiplication (Mark 8:5-7): After witnessing the feeding of the 5,000, the disciples offered their own loaves for the 4,000. A culture of multiplication is caught. When we see God move and willingly offer our unique "loaves and fish," we participate in His incredible multiplying mission. Conclusion: Ultimately, multiplying disciples and churches isn't just about growth; it's about Jesus receiving the reward of His suffering. He, the Lamb that was slain, is worthy because He was wounded for our healing and wholeness.Call to Action: Today, consider: what are your "loaves and fish"? Is it your time, talent, home, business, or finances? Jesus invites you to freshly place them in His hands. Respond with, "Count me in, Lord. You can count on me." Let's desire that the Lamb receives the full reward of His suffering through us. Support the show*Summaries and transcripts are generated using AI. Please notify us if you find any errors.

People call my behavior extreme, though I'm just acting in service of others. To be more precise, I'm acting in love for others. When people suggest what I'm doing is too hard, I sometimes remark how during America's Civil Rights era, some people went to jail for different people's freedom.Nobody looks forward to going to jail, yet people did. Their actions make mine look easy and fun. Still, I suggest, I bet they consider those actions of going to jail or even being attacked by dogs or beaten some of the best events of their lives. I doubt they regret it. I wanted to confirm my beliefs.I didn't go out of my way, but I looked out for people who had marched, protested, and gone to jail then. Then, a few months ago, I saw Robert Fullilove speak on a panel on leadership for Columbia's alumni community. He stole the show. That is, he was entertaining, engaging, fascinating, and informative. He spoke about many things: education, public health, prisons, and, catching my ear most, his involvement in the Civil Rights era.I brought him to the podcast as soon as I could, meeting him in his office. We talk about all the topics he did and more: education, public health, prisons, his involvement in the Civil Rights era, and more. In particular, not only does he not regret going to jail for other people's freedom, he considers that experience essential for him teaching public health today. Hosted on Acast. The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 29, 2024 6:17

My warriors, today we gather to explore the profound simplicity found in the heart of faith. When fear seeks to unsettle us, the truth of God's Word offers a sanctuary of peace. Psalm 56:3 provides us with a clear directive for such times: to place our trust in God. Let us delve into how this trust not only shields us from fear but also strengthens our relationship with the Lord. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Psalm 56:3 - "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."This verse speaks directly to our hearts, reminding us of the natural human response to fear and the supernatural response we can choose through faith. Trust in God is not passive; it is an active choice, a deliberate action to shift our focus from our fears to God's sovereignty. This act of trust transforms our perspective, enabling us to view our circumstances through the lens of God's promises.Focus Points for Conquering Fear Through Trusting God:* Acknowledge Your Fear: Recognize and admit your fear. Being honest about your fears is the first step towards overcoming them. It is in acknowledging our weakness that we can fully appreciate the strength of placing our trust in God.* Actively Choose to Trust: Decide to trust God each time fear arises. This decision is an act of will, a commitment to reject fear's hold and lean on God's character and promises.* Recall God's Faithfulness: Remind yourself of the times God has been faithful in the past. Reflecting on His previous deliverances and answered prayers can bolster your trust and diminish your fears.* Immerse in Scripture: Spend time in God's Word. Scriptures are full of God's assurances and promises. Let these truths fill your mind, replacing fear with faith.* Pray for Peace: Seek God's peace through prayer. As you express your fears to God and ask for His peace, you open the door for His calming presence to enter your heart and mind. Conclusion: In every moment of fear, we have a choice. We can allow fear to paralyze us, or we can choose to trust in God's unfailing love and power. By placing our trust in God, as Psalm 56:3 encourages us, we activate our faith, which not only shields us from fear but also aligns us more closely with God's peace and purpose for our lives.Call to Action: Today, whenever you feel fear creeping into your thoughts, pause, acknowledge the fear, and then consciously choose to trust in God. Speak Psalm 56:3 aloud as a declaration of your faith.Question of the Day: What fears do you need to surrender to God today, and how can actively trusting Him change your experience?Let's Pray: Heavenly Father, in moments of fear, help us to remember to turn to You. Teach us to trust You more deeply. When fears arise, let us put our trust in You, recalling Your faithfulness and drawing peace from Your promises. May our faith in You grow stronger each day as we learn to rely on You completely. Amen.Remember, my dear friends, each day offers new challenges, but also new opportunities to trust in God. Let the truth of Psalm 56:3 guide you: when you are afraid, put your trust in God. It is through this trust that you will find strength and peace. My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. These gifts from God are not only essential but are also our tools to overcome any fear that confronts us.Our springboard for today's discussion is: 2 Timothy 1:7 - "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."This powerful verse from 2 Timothy reminds us that fear does not originate from God. Instead, God provides us with strength, compassion, and discipline. These divine attributes empower us to face challenges with courage and maintain our composure, guided by His love. As we delve into this scripture, let us explore how we can apply these truths to conquer fear through faith.Focus Points for Conquering Fear with God's Truths:* Embrace God's Power: Recognize the divine power within you. This power is not for domination, but for overcoming life's adversities and fears. Lean on this strength in times of weakness, and remember that God's might is made perfect in our imperfection.* Cultivate God's Love: Allow God's love to permeate your heart. Love casts out fear and brings comfort and peace to troubled hearts. By nurturing love, not only for God but also for others, we diminish the power of fear in our lives.* Exercise Self-Control: Use the gift of self-control to manage your fears. Do not let fear dictate your actions. Instead, control your responses to fearful situations with thoughtful deliberation and prayerful reflection.* Rely on Prayer: When fear arises, turn to prayer. Communicate your anxieties to God and ask for His guidance and peace. Prayer connects us with God, fortifies our spirit, and focuses our mind on His promises.* Study and Apply Scripture: Engage deeply with God's Word. Scripture is full of promises and truths that reassure and guide us. By understanding and applying these teachings, we fortify ourselves against the encroachment of fear. Conclusion: God has not designed us to live in fear, but to thrive through His gifts of power, love, and self-control. Each day presents opportunities to practice these gifts, strengthening our faith and diminishing our fears. Let us walk confidently in the assurance of what God has instilled within us, using these divine attributes to confront and conquer our fears.Call to Action: Today, choose one of the focus points and actively integrate it into your daily life. Whether it is embracing God's power, cultivating love, exercising self-control, relying on prayer, or studying scripture, commit to this practice. Observe how it changes your response to fear.Question of the Day: Which of God's gifts—power, love, or self-control—do you need to invoke today to help conquer a specific fear?Let's Pray: Dear Father, thank You for the gifts of power, love, and self-control. Help us to remember that we are not meant to harbor fear. Empower us to use these gifts to overcome the fears that challenge us. May we grow in faith and confidence in Your protective presence. Guide us in love and discipline, that we might face each day with courage and peace. Amen.As you go forward, carry these truths in your heart: you are endowed with power, wrapped in love, and guided by self-control. Let these divine gifts illuminate your path and dispel all fears. My dear friends, in our journey through life, we often encounter moments that stir fear within us. Yet, as believers, we are not left to face these moments alone. God speaks to us through His Word, offering promises that not only comfort but empower us to overcome our fears. Today, let us explore how the truth of God's Word, specifically in Isaiah 41:10, provides the strength and assurance we need to conquer fear through faith. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Isaiah 41:10 - "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."This verse from Isaiah is a profound declaration of God's promise to be with us. It reminds us that when we face challenges that provoke fear, we can lean on the reality that God is ever-present and actively involved in our lives. He is not just a distant observer but a dynamic helper who strengthens, supports, and sustains us.Focus Points for Conquering Fear Through God's Word:* Recognize God's Presence: The first step in conquering fear is acknowledging that you are not alone. God is with you. Embrace this truth daily, and let it be the foundation on which you stand when fears arise.* Trust in God's Sovereignty: Understand that God is not only with you but is in complete control. He is your God. This knowledge should bring comfort and diminish dismay, knowing that the Almighty is managing the details of your life.* Receive God's Strength: Actively seek and accept the strength God offers. Fear drains our energy, but God promises to provide the strength we need. Pray for this strength and expect to receive it, for He is faithful.* Look for God's Assistance: In moments of fear, look for how God is helping you. Sometimes His help comes through comforting words in Scripture, other times through people, and often through internal peace amidst external chaos.* Feel God's Upholding Hand: Take comfort in the promise that God will uphold you with His righteous right hand. This is a metaphor of God's power and purity in action, defending and supporting you. Conclusion: Fear does not have the final say in our lives—faith does. By anchoring ourselves in the truths of God's Word, like those found in Isaiah 41:10, we find the resources to overcome fear. God's presence, sovereignty, strength, help, and upholding hand are not just abstract ideas but tangible realities that we can depend on every day.Call to Action: Today, choose to focus on one of these five focus points. Whether it's acknowledging God's presence or trusting in His sovereignty, let this truth from Scripture guide your actions and reactions throughout the day.Question of the Day: Which of these five focus points do you need to embrace more fully to conquer fear in your life?Let's Pray: Lord, thank You for Your reassuring words in Isaiah 41:10. Help us to remember that we need not fear because You are with us. Strengthen us, help us, and uphold us today. Teach us to rely on Your promises and to live out our faith boldly, conquering fear through our trust in You. In Your holy name, we pray, Amen.As you go about your day, remember that God is with you, strengthening and upholding you. Let His Word be the sword with which you conquer fear and the shield that protects you from despair. My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. Welcome warriors to The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast…In the grind of daily life, amidst the turmoil that swirls around us like a relentless storm, there's a resilience that defines the spirit of those who walk closely with God. It's the kind of grit that's spoken about in 2 Timothy 3:12-14, where the Apostle Paul doesn't just hint at the challenges that lie ahead for believers; he lays it out plain and stark. But within this warning lies a profound strategy for spiritual warriors: the power of perseverance.Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:12-14 - "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it."The text from 2 Timothy isn't just a heads-up about the bumpy road of spiritual integrity; it's a rallying cry for those who dare to stand firm in their faith. The early followers of Christ knew too well the cost of their faith, and yet, Paul's words remind us that the battles we face aren't just personal trials; they're a part of a larger war. A war not against flesh and blood, but against a much darker force seeking to undermine the very fabric of our spiritual existence.Focus Training:* Recognize the Battle: Understanding that the struggle is not against the tangible but the spiritual is foundational. It's easy to be misled by the visible troubles, but our fight is against the forces that operate in the shadows. Recognizing this changes our strategy, turning our focus towards spiritual readiness and defense.* Equip with Knowledge: What you've learned and been convinced of acts as your armor. Dive deep into the Word of God, for it is not merely a collection of historical accounts, but the living, breathing strategy manual for overcoming spiritual deceit and adversity. Equip yourself and your family with its truths, making it a cornerstone of daily life.* Persevere in Faith: Perseverance is not a passive waiting but an active, steadfast continuation in our faith journey, despite the opposition. It means praying without ceasing, serving without tiring, and loving without faltering. It's about making the conscious decision to press on, even when the path gets steep. Conclusion:The call to protect ourselves and our family is a call to spiritual vigilance. It's a commitment to stand grounded in faith, rooted in the knowledge of Christ, and shielded by the power of perseverance. In the face of deception and persecution, our response is not fear but a deeper commitment to walk in the truth we have been taught.Call to Action:Today, make the choice to reinforce your spiritual defenses. Begin with prayer, seeking God's guidance and strength. Then, commit to a daily study of the Word, not just as an individual but as a family unit. Let the truths within shape your conversations, your decisions, and your actions.Question of the Day:How can you and your family become more rooted in the teachings of Christ to withstand the challenges of our times?Let's Pray:Heavenly Father, in a world that often seems against us, help us to stand firm in our faith. Equip us with Your wisdom and strength to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the deceit that surrounds us. Let Your Word be our guide, and Your Spirit our strength, as we continue in the path You've set before us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.Remember, warriors, the journey is tough, but our God is tougher. Lean into His strength, hold fast to His promises, and walk boldly in the faith you've been taught. The victory is already ours.My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. Greetings, fellow spiritual warriors! Welcome to The Power Of God's Whisper. I'm your host, and today, we're tackling a crucial topic in our journey of faith – finding peace in the midst of a world that often feels like it's spinning out of control. Our guiding scripture, John 14:27, isn't just a comforting phrase; it's a powerful tool for cultivating inner tranquility in external turmoil.Scripture: John 14:27"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."In this scripture, Jesus isn't just offering a temporary reprieve from stress; He's bequeathing a profound, lasting peace that's vastly different from anything the world can offer. This peace is not dependent on circumstances; it's a deep-rooted assurance in the midst of life's storms. My Reasons To Believe is a publication fueled by its readers' support. We're committed to serving you. Think about stepping up to Faith Partner. For a mere $5 a month, you can play a crucial role in keeping this ministry's lights on. Stay blessed.Focus Training (2 minutes):* Recognizing the Gift: First, understand that Jesus' peace is a gift, not something we earn or create. Take a moment to consciously acknowledge this gift. Say to yourself, "Jesus has given me His peace." It's a peace that isn't swayed by external pressures or internal conflicts.* Rejecting Worldly Peace: Next, recognize the difference between Christ's peace and the world's. The world offers fleeting comfort, often based on avoidance or temporary solutions. In contrast, Jesus' peace is enduring and rooted in His presence and promises. Reflect on this contrast in your prayer time, asking for the wisdom to discern and embrace the peace Jesus offers.* Embracing and Applying Peace: Finally, actively apply this peace to areas of your life where fear and anxiety reign. Visualize handing over your worries to Jesus and receiving His peace in return. Whenever anxiety creeps in, remind yourself, "Christ's peace is with me."Conclusion:Christ's peace is transformative. It's not just a feeling; it's a state of being that changes how we view and interact with the world. It's a peace that empowers us to face challenges without being overwhelmed by them.Call to Action:Today, identify one area of your life where you feel troubled or afraid. Apply John 14:27 to this situation. Speak it out loud and embrace the peace that Jesus promises.Question of the Day:What situation or thought do you need to surrender to Jesus to experience His peace fully?Let's Pray:Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Help us to embrace this peace, letting it anchor our hearts in every challenge we face. Teach us to rely on Your promises and not our understanding. In moments of fear and turmoil, remind us that Your peace is always with us. In Jesus' name, Amen.Thank you for tuning in to The Power Of God's Whisper. Remember, in the midst of chaos, Christ's peace is a fortress for our souls. Hold onto this truth, let it guide you through the turbulence of life, and watch as fear and anxiety lose their grip on your heart. Welcome to The Power Of God's Whisper podcast. I'm Matthew Adams, and today we're diving into a promise that has stood the test of time, a promise that speaks to the heart of every spiritual warrior who has ever felt lost or disconnected from their divine source. We're exploring Jeremiah 29:14, a verse that serves as a beacon of hope for anyone who has ever felt like they are in a spiritual exile.Scripture: Jeremiah 29:14"I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”This verse is an anchor in turbulent times. It was originally a promise to the Israelites during their Babylonian captivity, a promise that their time of exile and separation was not the end. For us, as modern-day spiritual warriors, it's a reminder that no matter how far we stray or how lost we feel, God's promise of restoration stands firm.My Reasons To Believe is a publication fueled by its readers' support. We're committed to serving you. Think about stepping up to Faith Partner. For a mere $5 a month, you can play a crucial role in keeping this ministry's lights on. Stay blessed.Focus Training (2 minutes):* Understanding God's Promise: The first step is to comprehend the depth of this promise. God is not just saying He'll be there; He's saying He will actively seek and gather us. It's an invitation to trust in His relentless pursuit of us, even when we are in the depths of our own spiritual exile.* Recognizing Our Exile: Often, we don't realize we're in a state of spiritual exile. We might feel a sense of disconnection, a lack of purpose, or a deep longing for something more. Acknowledging our own 'exile' is key to understanding the depth of God's promise to bring us back.* Responding to God's Call: This is about action. It's one thing to hear God's promise; it's another to actively seek Him in response. We must open our hearts, engage in prayer, and seek Him in His Word. God promises to be found, but we have to start looking. Conclusion:Jeremiah 29:14 isn't just a verse for the ancient Israelites; it's a living, breathing promise for each of us today. In our spiritual journey, there will be times of exile, but these moments are not our end. They are, in fact, the starting points of a deeper relationship with God, a journey back to our spiritual home.Call to Action:Today, take a moment to reflect on your own spiritual journey. Are there areas in your life where you feel exiled or distant from God? Begin to seek Him earnestly, knowing that His promise to find you and bring you back stands firm.Question of the Day:What does 'spiritual exile' look like in your life, and how can you start moving towards God's promise of restoration?Let's Pray:Heavenly Father, in the midst of our wanderings and periods of exile, we cling to Your promise that we will find You when we seek You with all our hearts. Guide us back from the captivity of our doubts, fears, and the distractions of this world. Draw us nearer to You, and let us feel the warmth of Your presence as You bring us back to where we belong – in Your loving embrace. Amen.Thank you for joining me on The Power Of God's Whisper podcast. Remember, no matter where you are in your spiritual journey, God's promise of restoration is just a heartfelt prayer away. Until next time, keep listening for His voice in every moment of your life. Get full access to My Reasons To Believe at myr2b.substack.com/subscribe

Hey folks, Matthew Adams here, stepping into the joyous light of Advent Day 25. On this day, we're embracing a promise from Isaiah, a verse that sounds like the finale of a great symphony. For those of us on the path of spiritual warfare, it's not just a verse; it's a banner flying high, leading us home.Scripture: Isaiah 35:10"And those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away." This passage from Isaiah 35:10 is a promise of ultimate redemption and joy for those who have been on a long, hard journey. My Reasons To Believe is a publication fueled by its readers' support. We're committed to serving you. Think about stepping up to Faith Partner. For a mere $5 a month, you can play a crucial role in keeping this ministry's lights on. Stay blessed. In this scripture, we find a depiction of the ultimate homecoming – a return to Zion, symbolizing a spiritual return to a place of peace, security, and joy. It's a prophetic vision of what awaits those who have endured, fought the good fight, and remained faithful. For spiritual warriors, this is the ultimate victory – a life where joy replaces sorrow, and gladness outshines the trials of the journey.Three Driving Points* Rescue Leads to Return: The promise starts with rescue, a reminder that our journey often begins with God pulling us out of a place of despair or danger. For spiritual warriors, this rescue is both a starting point and a continual process. It's about recognizing the moments of divine intervention in our lives and allowing those experiences to turn us back, or keep us on the right path.* Joyful Anticipation: The vision of entering Zion with singing and crowned with everlasting joy paints a picture of what awaits us – an eternal state of happiness and peace. In the midst of spiritual battles, this joy might seem distant, but it's a promised reality. It's the hope that keeps us going, the light at the end of a sometimes dark tunnel.* Transformation of Sorrow: Finally, the transformation from sorrow to joy is a key element of this prophecy. It's a reminder that the struggles, the sighing, and the sadness are not the end of our story. For every spiritual warrior, there's an assurance that our current struggles will give way to a permanent state of joy and peace. Conclusion:Isaiah 35:10 offers us a powerful reminder of God's promise of salvation and joy. As spiritual warriors, it's this vision of a triumphant return – with joy as our crown and gladness as our song – that fuels our journey, giving us strength to persevere and hope to hold onto.Call to Action:Today, take a moment to reflect on this promise. Find a way to incorporate this vision of joy into your daily life – maybe through a song, a prayer, or a word of encouragement to someone. Let this promise of everlasting joy be a source of strength and hope for you.Prayer:Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of rescue and the vision of everlasting joy. Help us to walk in this hope, to sing with anticipation, and to look forward to the day when sorrow and sighing will flee away. Strengthen us as we march towards that glorious day. Amen.As we move forward, let the promise of Isaiah 35:10 be the melody that guides us – a song of joy, redemption, and hope. May your steps be lightened by the anticipation of this eternal joy, and may your heart be buoyed by the assurance of God's faithful promise. Keep marching, warriors, with the tune of joy in your hearts and the promise of a glorious homecoming in your sights. Get full access to My Reasons To Believe at myr2b.substack.com/subscribe

Ep #238 - New Year's resolution are a pitfall. So much pressure for one mere sunrise to handle. You know you want changes in your life. You wouldn't be here if you didn't. "I can't" is conceding today and giving up on tomorrow. In this episode I will discuss in-depth my "Baton" metaphor so you can end 2023 with strength and start 2024 with momentum. I will also focus on the Spheres: Career, Self, and Relationships and the Pillars: Physical, Emotional, Mental, Spiritual. Through these spheres and their pillars you will seamlessly organize your mind to shift you toward the growth you seek. I have been using it for years and teaching it for about as long. The four quotes I discuss in the episode: 1. The Good Place: Principles aren't principles when you pick and choose to follow them. 2. Travelers: Most belief systems are just a shared vocabulary for people searching for meaning. 3. Me: You won't remember today in a week or a month so sacrifice today for the satisfaction of the success then. 4. Augustus: The main goal of the leader should be to simplify goals and to make expectations clear, consistently cutting into the core mission and repeatedly returning to the core mission in order to make sure the whole team is consistently on the same page. ******************************************** Hit play and dive in with an open mind and heart.
