AENIMA, the 1996 album from progressive metal shamans TOOL, is a progressive, heavy, and atmospheric album loaded with layers and layers of sonic texture that should be enjoyed with headphones to ensure the ideal experience. In short, if Tool is the metal community's Pink Floyd, then AENIMA is most definitely their Dark Side Of The Moon. And as with any prog album of such incredible quality, you must listen to it “front to back”, in its entirety because it's truly a “start to finish” experience. You may recall that we did an album dive of this many, many moons ago, right around the time of the COVID pandemic, during the “B.R.” period. It was a Metal Nerdery two-some, it was done over a Zoom call, it was definitely weird, and it was the only time we ever “did it” with only “two thirds the nerds” (it's episode 38, released April 2, 2020, btw. You've been warned). Always remember to reach “Finger…knuckle…elbow…and shoulder deep inside the borderline” in order to properly clean out and prepare for your upcoming “analectomy”. Prepare to enjoy “The BALLS of satan” (“Und keine eier”), enjoy some reflections regarding ample “shoulder tits” that were shown “at a bar”, and a bunch of assorted “piss hockey snot” associated with “where rich people live (and eat) in Atlanta”. Be advised that “white people rapping is kinda like girls talking about football” and remember that a hilariously, weird threesome is always better than an unfunny, awkward twosome. Happy Turkels to all, enjoy some “Harry Manbackshadowing” reflections, revel in the infinite comedy genius of Bill Hicks and JOIN US as we strive for redemption with a full power threesome and dive “colon deep inside the borderline” with TOOL's AENIMA. Avec The Cure, Tool, The Beatles et Madness.
For a little more than 4 years, the All Time Top Ten Patreon Club put out monthly bonus episodes to the delight of dozens of people! As we say thanks, we salute the fine upstanding members of the ATTT Patreon Club. To honor those who believed in the show enough to put their money where their mouth was and contributed anywhere from $2 to $10 a month, we're giving the Club an official send-off by giving our astute $10 tier members the last say in a bunch of songs that have been played 4 times previously on the show, and we give those songs the retirement they deserve. Once you've been played 5 times on the show, you're given the gold jacket and golf club membership you richly deserve, never to appear on All Time Top Ten again. There's no other band quite like Tool. Juxtaposing dark sounds and images against positive messages about expanding our hearts, minds and souls and evolving as a species. Equal parts terrifying and uplifting. Adam Jones' signature guitar sound and visceral visuals; Danny Carey's polyrhythms and unparalleled percussion; Justin Chancellor's melodic and hypnotic bass; and Maynard James Keenan's incredible voice, powerful lyrics and enigmatic persona.Hear us talk about Tool's evolution from a punk/metal band to a psychedelic progressive band with a heavy focus on 1996's breakthrough album, Aenima, it's its impact on music and our lives. And the story about how Adam learned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Maynard's feet!Joel Egger joins the show after his first guest appearance about Pearl Jam and 90's Grunge shattered all download records for the show. Beloved (and hated) by many, and considered a comedian's comedian, Bill Hicks changed the face of standup comedy forever… and the lives of Adam and Chad. (For better or worse!) Bill's comedy was smart, irreverent, edgy, enlightening, offensive, and most importantly, hilarious. Many of us heard Bill Hicks before we ever heard his standup from Tool's 1996 Aenima album or Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer. But once you've heard one of “Reverend” Bill's “sermons,” the way you look at the world will change. Always remember: It's Just a Ride.< '00 | an Art House Empire Production | #LessThan2000Support the show

Episode 4 of Season 5 aired on 27 Jan 2022. I think I will always consider this the episode I lost control of. Doing these shows is a bit like doing a gig, you have the songs and the sequence in our head and you play them in a way that seems to fit and sometimes everything flows and one thing leads to a better thing and that to a better thing, and other times everything doesn't seem to fit. The biggest problem is when you get technical shit and lose your rhythm. I lost wifi on one laptop but the show stayed up which is all that matters. We started with Backyard Babies and Chickenfoot and then made our way through some early Halestorm and a track called 'I Get Off'. Faith No More and Tool got a look in for the first time in a while and I give top marks to Tool for the lyrics to 'Aenima'. They were just what the doctor ordered. I suggest pulling them up while you listen to the track. We said cheers to Meatloaf who sadly passed away last Friday. Meat had a huge impact on everyone growing up in the '70s, Bat Out of Hell was one of those freakish, outsize albums, selling north of 35 million copies that just took the world by storm. We took a listen to 'Rock 'n' Roll Dreams Come True' of Bat Out of Hell II. SA music got 4 in a row with 12th Avenue, Sugar Drive, The Burning, and Fokofpolisiekar. We had nothing from Aussie, zero, nada, zip, that has to be a first, and was quite a shock when I realised it. Apologies to my Australian friends, amends will be made next week. The Punk section was also unusual with nothing from the UK, we checked out Ramones and then a track called 'Bad Habit' off Smash, The Offspring's breakthrough album. Are Offspring considered Punk? No idea, these labels can be a bit tedious at times. A highlight for me was Don Babylon with 'Ow, My Tiny Heart'. I think it's one of the greatest choruses ever written. It must be impossible to finish that song live, it will just loop on forever. Artists featured: Backyard Babies, Chickenfoot, Halestorm, Ozzy Osbourne, Dokken, Def Leppard, U.D.O., Faith No More, Tool, Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders, Therapy?, Ramones, The Offspring, Walking Papers, Meatloaf, Arch Enemy, Judas Priest, 12th Avenue, Sugar Drive, The Burning, Fokofpolisiekar, Savage, The Pretty Reckless, Sheryl Crow, Ryan Adams, The Rolling Stones, Audience, Billy Gibbons & Vivien Campbell, Don Babylon, Eluveitjie, Scorpions, Metallica, Slaughter, Mötley Crüe, Sepultura

On paper, Tool would seem like the perfect band for The New Dad Rock. And perhaps they are. It's just that Steve and Keith never really got into them beyond Sober or after 1993. To remedy this, Keith invited his friend Eric in for a discussion on all things Tool. Included are steps on how to get into Tool and a first-hand testimonial on their brilliance. Also, one of their most popular songs is called Stink Fist.If you are interested in delving deeper, here are some entry-level songs that may just set you down this parabolic path to Tool super fandom.InvincibleThe PotForty Six & 2LateralusPneumaFear Innoculum7empestPrison SexSupport the show (https://teespring.com/stores/the-new-dad-rock)
S3E15 aired at 7 pm on 26 Nov 2020. It was pretty painless, to be honest, we started with Halford and ended with Sixx AM, as usual time flew and many songs ended getting left out. According to the Rebel Rock Radio app data Asking Alexandria got 4 times more likes than anything else which I was surprised but happy to see. Other noticeable mentions were John Cougar, Nirvana, Wonderboom, Rose Tattoo, Scorpions, and ACDC with Code Red off the new Power Up album. It's the first time I have looked at those stats so that was quite interesting. On the local front, we had The Burning, Koos Kombuis, Wonderboom, and The Black Cat Bones with an amazing track called The Hunter, this was off an album in my collection called SA Blues Breakers. There was a nice bit in the middle with Tool's Aenima and Faith No More with Ashes to Ashes. They went down very well. The new Armored saint album Punching the Sky is also very good and we took a listen to Standing On The Shoulders of Giants. Artists featured: Halford, Armored Saint, Led Zeppelin, Scorpions, Rose Tattoo, ACDC, Warrant, Ted Nugent, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Jam, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, The Black Cat Bones, Wonderboom, Nirvana, Koos Kombuis, Accept, Megadeth, Tool, Faith No More, Jimmy Barnes, Powderfinger, WASP, Metallica, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Emigrate, Extreme, Dokken, Rainbow, Green Day, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss, Def Leppard, Guns ‘n' Roses, and Sixx AM

I first heard about the third eye from Tool's album Aenima. That album was where I first heard of the comedian Bill Hicks who spoke at length about the third eye. I thought it was a metaphor for perceiving the world as it is rather than glossed over facade that commercials and tv shows lead us to believe Turns out it's actually a physical thing and it's also known as the pineal gland. It is a connecting link between the physical 3D word and the psychic dimension beyond it. Unfortunately most of us have calcified pineal glands because of pesticides, the standard American diet of processed fatty foods and fluoride. Mike and Sam record this episode pre-gig at The Barn in Dublin, where they overcome louder-than-normal bar music to record an episode on what are, arguably, Tool's two most transformative albums: Aenima and Lateralus. Sam asks mike how he has evolved as a musician throughout his career.

The announcement of Tool's first album in 12 years has us reflecting on our former obsession and current distaste for the alternative metal juggernauts, so we revisit their crowning achievement, 2001's Lateralus, in order to reassess the band's legacy.
Whenever we have a guest on to discuss an album either they made, had a hand in producing or releasing, our are suggesting for a review, we always come away with unique personal insights not always available from just a surface listen or new release review. For the sophomore 1996 album Aenima by Tool, our guest Patrick had a close personal connection to the music and the lyrics of the band that he shared with us that gave a deeper appreciation for one of the most original and trailblazing bands and albums of the decade. In this week's episode, Sam and Mike discuss Sam's experience (or lack thereof) at this year's Rock on the Range, the merits (or lack thereof) of the idea that all good music was made while the creators were on drugs and, last but not least, Tool's 1996 release: Aenima. Lots of great, LONG, music clips--just as Tool intended!
Isiphilon, Aenima, Ava Inferi e mais recentemente Earth Electric, a Carmen já anda por cá há muito. Se a isto somarmos as suas colaborações em Moonspell, então temos conversa até amanhã. Maynard James Keenan (Maynard spoke very softly, I assume, to save his voice for the the 3 shows he was doing) Subscribe and Listen Listen to the podcast on your favorite podcast player. iTunes Feed Non iTunes Feed Maynard is a friend, a singer, a wine maker and a Martial Artist. His voice is a perfect tone for those who yearn to get lost with music versus just listening to it. His constant attention to detail has earned him many accolades in life. In short, he rocks! I met Maynard almost 20 years ago when he was touring with Tool during the Aenima release. He brings mats with him so he can always take advantage of training on the road. Staying busy is a way of life for the 51 year old singer. His focus today is Wine and his band Puscifer, but his “side Projects” Tool and A Perfect Circle are always lingering in the distance. I was fortunate enough to sit in on a sound check for Puscifer then enjoy a few hours of the band at a show in Oakland. Who opens for Puscifer? Nobody. How the hell do two guys talk about an album for almost twice its running length? By going on tangents and making references to Blur, Jungian theory, Scientology, and El Santo of course! Desmond and Damien also tell a cool story about a Monty Python record that neither of them can quite recall. Math is involved. No one told us there would be math... or Kathy Griffin for that matter. Join in on Schizophrenic Six Degrees of Separation! Oh yeah! They also refer to Tool's third release: Aenima. Felipe y Diego nos hablan de Aenima, de Tool: segundo disco de la banda que les confirmaba con solidez gracias a temas como H o Stinkfist.
These are songs that inspire the best in us. They make us want to join the bands on stage, take up an instrument, and add our own little something to the mayhem. Any instrument is fair game. We've divided things up a bit between instruments, or at least inserted our own commentary for most of the songs, so give a listen... then respond in the comments with your thoughts, and certainly any songs we left out!Due to the nature of the genre, there is a preponderance of guitar songs. Oh, and both DJ's Yuletide and Jack actually DID begin playing guitar because of THESE SONGS! Jack made us proud, having had the honor to shred Episode 666 (see playlist) in front of a live audience at none other than the WORCESTER PALLADIUM, perhaps the MOST METAL venue ever (insert citation here...)?Disclosure of DANGER:This show may inspire reckless amounts of air drumming, with feet thundering mercilessly on dual air-bass-drums; air-shredding leading to fingers air-bleeding; and of course fingers fluttering at supersonic speeds along air-keyboards until complete air-dislocation.
