Speaking at a Wednesday news conference, Johnson condemned President Donald Trump's decision to deploy federal troops to help control the riots in Los Angeles, which were triggered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the city. The mayor referred to the federal crackdown as a “war on our culture” and urged city residents to take action, the Tribune reported. This week Amanda sits down for three separate interviews with Jon Hansen, Karla Lems, and Mark Lapka while in Washington DC as they put their boots to the pavement to meet with as many people as they can to discuss the importance of private property rights as it pertains to The Big Beautiful Bill.In this episode of 'The Heart of Rural America' podcast, host Amanda Radke speaks from Washington D.C. alongside key South Dakota legislators, discussing significant agricultural and private property issues. The episode is highlighted by interviews with Jon Hansen, Speaker of the House, and Mark Lapka, a first-term senator, focusing on the fight against the Green New Deal and defending landowners' rights. They delve into efforts to remove the 45Q tax credit, which funds carbon sequestration projects seen as detrimental to private property rights. Additionally, the episode touches on broader topics such as fiscal responsibility, wind and solar energy projects, and potential threats from mandatory EIDs in cattle. Prominent themes include upholding constitutional rights, maintaining fiscal sanity, and pushing back against overreaching government policies. The show wraps up with anticipation for a Landowner Victory Party celebrating these collective efforts.Presented by Bid on Beef | CK6 Consulting | CK6 Source | Real Tuff Livestock Equipment | Redmond RealSalt | By-O-Reg+ | Dirt Road RadioSave on Redmond Real Salt with code RADKE at https://shop.redmondagriculture.com/Check out Amanda's agricultural children's books here: https://amandaradke.com/collections/amandas-books
Environmental communication scholar Dr. Hanna Morris shared her insights from "Apocalyptic Authoritarianism: Climate Crisis, Media, and Power," her 2025 book with Oxford Univ Press. This book meets the political moment in analyzing the way most mainstream news media actually lean moderate to right in climate coverage that "others" and villianizes the New Left activists and progressive politicians as too 'radical' or 'woke' (like A.O.C. and often other women of color or those proposing the Green New Deal) in favor of older American narratives of "order" and quick solutions via white male authorities and American exceptionalism, rather than exploring democratic coalitions of many Americans who are proposing deeper climate justice and equity initiatives and new sustainable ways of living (going beyond simplified technological global warming fixes preferred by authorities). But Morris has ideas for how more robust climate journalism --that challenges privileged authority figures, respects the wisdom of the public, and acknowledges the violences of the climate crisis -- could foster the kinds of democratic and holistic/deep responses the climate crisis warrants. We discuss current issues that the journalism profession is facing in this digital era and trump regime. Dr. Morris and I begin this 50-minute In Tune to Nature podcast by chatting about our upcoming trips to Tasmania for the Conference on Communication and the Environment #COCE2025 as members of the International Environmental Communication Association that we volunteer for. I end the podcast with audio of an Australian (Tasmanian) animal species (nonhuman) and ask you to identify the species and email me your guess. Roman Buhler never thought he'd see the day where the 'Left' would so actively try to undermine this nation through the packing of the Supreme Court. A constitutional amendment, presented with a Democrat helping the coalition, to say the the Supreme Court will consist with 9 justices. Roman looks behind the left wing members of Congress; involving the pro-abortion crowd, the teachers unions, folks who want to take away 2nd Amendment rights, the quota civil rights crowd wanting racial quotas, and Wall Street to empower regulators to enrich Green New Deal policies, and the most dangerous of all the Democrat election lawyers that want to get rid of the Electoral College. Young voters are key. Roman packs his coalition with the Gen Z folks that are strongly engaged to join Roman's coalition to initiate this new constitutional amendment. "We need another revolution", Roman said. In Trump's 2017 inauguration, Donald Trump said "it's time to transfer power out of Washington and back to the states and the people." "Laws must be made by elected officials" he said, "not by administrative decree. That would be the NEXT amendment."Check out MadisonCoalition.org or 202-255-5000“Keep 9” Is the Solution ~ Let's Stop Dem Court Packing!!!on the GrassRoots TruthCast with Gene ValentinoORIGINAL MEDIA SOURCE(S):‣ Originally Recorded on May 13, 2025‣ GrassRoots TruthCast: Season 2, Episode 284‣ Image courtesy of: GeneValentino.com➡️ Join the Conversation: https://GeneValentino.com➡️ WMXI Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/NewsRadio981➡️ More WMXI Interviews: https://genevalentino.com/wmxi-interviews/➡️ More GrassRoots TruthCast Episodes: https://genevalentino.com/grassroots-truthcast-with-gene-valentino/➡️ More Broadcasts with Gene as the Guest: https://genevalentino.com/america-beyond-the-noise/ ➡️ More About Gene Valentino: https://genevalentino.com/about-gene-valentino/

Today's podcast begins with our sublime host, Mike Slater, going over the latest with the "One Big, Beautiful Bill". It's passed through the House of Representatives, but there's now real concern that there's too much kowtowing to the crazy left and their "Green New Deal" nonsense. Is this the case? Can things be changed in the U.S. Senate? Slater explores all of this and more!Following that first segment, Mike gabs with Nick Touran, a nuclear engineer who runs the fabulous website called "WhatisNuclear.com" about the recent moves that President Donald J. Trump has made in regards to nuclear power in this nation and how he's setting things up for renewed American energy domination in the future!
Well, in usual fashion, the, folks in the state legislature, well, they found some money, little over a billion and a half dollars, and, looks like they spent it. Joining us right now, representative Sarita Edgerton. Sarita, welcome to the program. How are you? I'm fine, Charlie. Thank you. How are you? I'm good. The house passed the budget today. What was, some of the sticking points there? The house and the senate And the senate. Yeah. Passed it today. Mhmm. The senate voted I think all but five voted, voted for it. So for me, I had said if there's any money going to planned parenthood in it, I would not vote for the budget. That was my main sticking point. Right. Not 1¢. And since it's still part of our public employees benefits, the PEBA, that is still in there until Trump and, maybe eradicates it from Medicaid through the this big beautiful bill thing that they've been they were talking about up there in Washington. So that was my main sticking point, and that's what I had said when I campaigned that I would not vote for it as long as that was in there. But there were other things like, $13,200,000 for a Green New Deal battery center building for the University of South Carolina to study batteries for Wow. Electric vehicles. Okay. $18,000,000 for MUSC to build a walkway over a highway, which comes out to, like, $350 a foot. Good night. Yes. $4,000,000 more in our tax dollars going to Hollywood subsidy Hollywood film, people to subsidize the film, companies of of Woke Hollywood. That's on top of what we already give them. Right. So there were some other things. The, human the human affairs, agency is getting two more full time employees at the tune of $87,000 a year and eight Oh. $80,000 a year. Those are two full time employees. So those are some sticking points. But the the main sticking point from most of my constituents is the, of course, perceived pay raise, which, everybody knows, which was in there. And so it passed today, both the house and the senate. It's pretty unbelievable. Just take a look at the, the vote board here. Was that, 88 yes, 25 no's? Correct. Which is the most that's ever voted against the budget. Wow. Well, making headway there. Still got a long way to go. But but what gets me is I I will promise you that just about everybody that voted for this also campaigned on, defunding planned parenthood. Right? Oh, a lot of people. Yeah. You know, there are people on that green in the green that that did not vote for that. But a a lot of conservatives, for sure, want to defund Planned Parenthood, but that's in this budget. It's it is pretty amazing. But and and the big question is, how do we keep spending like this and cut taxes? Well, that's a very good question because the, the budget advisory committee, the BEA is what we I can't remember what what it actually stands for. But, the they found this 1 and a half billion dollar not found. They estimated Yeah. That there will be an actual 1 and a half billion dollar surplus next year. But to me, that's not the state's money. As far as I can tell, the state does not manufacture or produce any goods that they can sell to make money. The state only has tax dollars that come from tax paying citizens. And so that money that they found, quote, unquote, to spend is not state's money. It's the taxpayers' money. And now while one of the committee members said, well, we didn't spend all of it. Yeah. They still spent $600,000,000 of it. Right. And, we're we're estimating they said no pork, but there's gonna be pork in this from different agencies. Sure. It's just all hidden in there. It's just it's just it's insane what goes on down here in Columbia. When you were basically dressed down, was it Mike Kaski that that dressed you down about nobody really reads these bills in Columbia? Yes, sir. Have your has that really opened your eyes about how that organization is run? Yes, sir. There have been several times when people have come running down the aisle ...

Josh Sigurdson reports on the incoming artificial intelligence takeover as Trump has signed a 500 billion dollar investment in AI, met with Saudi leaders to form an AI weapons and manufacturing agreement and now is signing an executive order to create skynet itself, not just with the so-called "iron dome" but with nuclear technology. The new executive order has highlighted the need for AI controlled nuclear technology including for warfare. So robots will decide who lives and who dies. Congress has also seized AI regulatory power from individual states to the federal government. Elon Musk said this week that all jobs will be taken over by AI and you won't need to work. He's also pushing UBI. Ironically, he claims AI will destroy humanity while he's the main person developing it. With the agreements made between the Pentagon, Elon Musk's starlink and Palantir's AI system, there's no doubt that the end goal of the left with the climate agenda is the same as the right under the guise of "national security." This so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" is supposed to put a nail in the coffin of the Green New Deal, yet the end goal of the green new deal is to bring in technocracy and digital control. The same bill has a hidden part in section 43201 detailing the federal government's total monopoly on AI and the digital system to come. Meanwhile, from the climate perspective as expected, California is using imminent domain to seize all remaining Malibu property to establish 15 Minute Cities following the Pacific Pallisades fire. Grant Cardone exposed the fact that his home (the last remaining on the Malibu coast) is being taken by Newsom. All of these things correlate. As the UK brings in their federal digital ID by July and the EU brings theirs in as well as their CBDC by October at the latest, the US government signed the STABLE Act and the GENIUS Act to utilize centralized stable coins as a CBDC system complete with KYC. Censorship is exploding in Europe and Canada but despite Trump saying he is pro free speech, it is also exploding in the US under the guise of stopping "antisemitism." Criticism of Israel could be considered "hate speech." This makes the path to the ultimate censorship of the nature of humanity itself via digital control all the more easier. In this fiery and emotionally charged monologue, the speaker connects a surge in antisemitic violence to radical ideologies incubated on American college campuses. Citing a recent shooting by a suspect tied to pro-Palestinian groups, the commentary condemns what it views as the mainstreaming of terrorist rhetoric in academia and politics—specifically from the far-left and members of the Democratic “Squad.” The discussion then shifts to national security, immigration, and student visas, with warnings of future violence inspired by campus-based extremism. In the second half, the focus turns to economic policy, where conservative voices are praised for resisting bipartisan spending and pushing back against Green New Deal subsidies. The speaker applauds members of the Freedom Caucus for challenging both GOP leadership and Trump himself to protect future generations from economic collapse. The message: America's cultural and fiscal foundations are being tested—and only bold resistance can turn the tide.
In this explosive segment, the hosts dissect two major stories shaking the political and cultural landscape. First, they cover the Supreme Court's critical 7-2 decision to uphold free speech after Maine legislator Laura Libby was censured and stripped of her voting rights for naming a transgender athlete—information already publicized by the media. The case raises alarming concerns over silencing dissent, especially when it involves defending women's rights in sports. Then, the discussion pivots to Washington's out-of-control spending, revealing $852 billion still allocated to the Green New Deal through 2035 despite Republican promises to cut it. As U.S. credit ratings hit historic downgrades and national debt balloons toward $47 trillion, the hosts argue that true conservatism is vanishing—replaced by bipartisan budget bloat and economic denial. A must-listen for anyone concerned about free speech, fiscal sanity, and the future of the republic.

Why is it that there are only a handful of conservatives pushing to fulfil the immigration mandate, fight inflation, or even repeal the Green New Deal? Why is it that we have only one good governor? Because we have an industry of people who want to be someone rather than a movement of those who want to do something. Next, we're joined by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who explains why he plans to vote against the reconciliation bill as written. He artfully exposes all the gimmicks in the bill to show how there is not a single transformational policy change or meaningful cut. At the same time, there are so many new entitlements created with a strategic expiration date that will continue to perpetuate the cycle of lobbying and governance by fiscal cliff. Also, not only did lawmakers fail to repeal the Green New Deal, they actually make the solar panel industry an even greater monopoly. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's Donald Trump. We're having a lot of fun doing a good show with Charlie. Thank you very much, sir. We really appreciate that. Let's go to the PhD weight loss talk line. We'll talk to Janet in Gastonia about that big, old, beautiful bill. What's on your mind, Janet? Hey, Charlie. Hello? Wanted to know if it's true. I've been hearing a lot of, different stories claiming that the big, beautiful bill does not contain no tax on Social Security. Have you heard anything about that? I'll be honest with you. The only thing that we've heard about this bill is what the different committees have been saying. So I don't know if it's in there or not. I'm not sure. I hope they get it in there because I hate for the folks on Social Security to have to pay taxes again on something that they've earned way past when. Ain't that the truth? You're exactly right about that. But we'll see what happens with that bill, Janet. Appreciate your call. Well, one of the things that the Trump administration has really been working hard on is eliminating all of these ridiculous regulations from the Biden administration. When you look at the cost of all the things you have, there are regulations tied to that. I mean, just look look what they wanted to do. They wanted to do away with your gas stove. They wanted to do away with that. They wanted to do away with your gas dryer. I've never even known anybody that had a gas dryer, but the people that have talked about them have said they're wonderful. They wanted to do away with your gas water heater. They wanted to do away with natural gas altogether. Now it was pretty hypocritical, especially since there were pictures of, Nancy Pelosi and, and and and Elizabeth Warren and, Kamala Harris all standing in front of their beautiful gas ranges. But they wanted to do away away with all of that. Look at how many regulations look how many regulations the government has imposed on Americans. How may how much water your toilet can use. Right? Your ridiculous gas cans that they make you use now, I don't even bother with them. I just go buy me an aftermarket funnel attachment for my gas can. I put the little vent valve on there, and I'm good to go. I take that piece anytime they put a valve on a gas cap on a gas can that you have to go to the website to find out how to use, it's a bad idea. It's literally pouring liquid into a container. Now they wanted to come along and talk about it with safety issues. No. It's not. It was all about the the environment, blah blah blah. But that's where they've been primarily focused. All of these things in the Biden administration, it's all been about. That's that's all the so called inflation reduction act was about. And even Joe Biden admitted that that wasn't even the real name of the bill. It was the Green New Deal. Was another regulation that they've had, maybe you've had to deal with it. It was a few weeks ago. My wife and I went up to Rhode Island to visit my mother-in-law, and we rented a car rented a car. So we're driving out of the was it Hertz, driving out of the Hertz lot, and we come to a stop sign. And I stopped the car, and the car shuts off. And my wife says, oh, no. What happened? And I said, it's a new thing. It's a new thing, honey. So then I stepped on the gas, but a boom, car starts back up. It's that auto stop auto start thing, the start stop technology that they put into these cars. And a lot of people, not surprisingly, hate it. They can't stand it. Now you can disable it, but you can only disable it for that trip. So let's just I don't know. Let's just say you're going to Golden Corral, get you some breakfast. You can disable it in your driveway, drive to Golden Corral. But once you get back in and you're all full as a tick and you're going back home, you gotta disable it again. People loathe it. Well, the US Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin said and and by the way, isn't it funny that we just completely forgot about the ...

The economy was in bad shape under Biden and will continue to slide into stagflation until we get spending back to pre-COVID levels. I go through an assortment of statements from various Republicans demonstrating how they don't have plans to meaningfully cut a single program. Next, we're joined by South Dakota House Speaker Jon Hansen (R) and his speaker pro tem, Karla Lems, who have announced their run for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively. They discuss their record of fighting for landowners and how they plan to take it to the next level in the executive branch. Hansen is promising to make South Dakota the graveyard for the Green New Deal, stand up to the special interests, block left-wing initiative petitions, and cut property taxes. How is he different from other candidates? He actually single-handedly fought for these ideals when it was hard and when it actually mattered. Learn more about your ad choices. Andria Chatmon, a community organizer from Empower DC, and East Peterson-Trujillo, campaign director at the Green New Deal for DC, discuss strategies to address DC's affordable housing crisis. We discuss the severe underfunding of DC's affordable housing programs and the need for a new approach. Despite the creation of new housing units, the specific goal for affordable housing has not been met. Social housing may be the alternative solution that includes mixed-income government-owned properties with a focus on environmental sustainability and tenant empowerment. Also discussed was successful models like the The Laureate in Montgomery County, MD. The challenges and benefits of public-private partnerships in housing, the necessity of tenant involvement in management, and the legal obstructions faced in DC are also examined. The conversation ends on a personal note, discussing the speakers' backgrounds, motivations, and the impact of the new federal administration on their work.Andria Chatmon is a Community Organizer at Empower DC, a grassroots organization committed to building the organized political power of black, brown, and low-income District residents to fight displacement and expand affordable housing in the District.East Peterson-Trujillo is a climate justice advocate and campaign strategist dedicated to advancing environmental equity and sustainable transportation. “Abundance,” the book I co-wrote with Derek Thompson, hit bookstore shelves a little over a month ago, and the response has been beyond anything I could have imagined. And it's generated a lot of interesting critiques, too, especially from the left. So I wanted to dedicate an episode to talking through some of them.My guests today are both on the left but have very different perspectives. Zephyr Teachout is a law professor at Fordham University and one of the most prominent voices in the antimonopoly movement. Saikat Chakrabarti is the president and co-founder of New Consensus, a think tank that has been trying to think through what it would take to build at Green New Deal scale and pace. And he is currently running to unseat Nancy Pelosi in Congress.I found this conversation wonderfully clarifying — both in the places it revealed agreement, and perhaps even more in the places it revealed difference.Mentioned:“How the Gentry Won: Property Law's Embrace of Stasis” by David Schleicher and Roderick M. This interview was produced by INET. Robert Pollin presents a compelling case for a global Green New Deal that fights climate change without sacrificing jobs. He explains why the shift to renewable energy is not just technologically possible, but economically beneficial—creating far more jobs than fossil fuels. But without strong labor protections and guaranteed wages, pensions, and reemployment for fossil fuel workers, the transition risks political backlash. Drawing from work in West Virginia and beyond, Pollin outlines the real costs, benefits, and global financing strategies needed to meet the 2050 net-zero target—while ensuring no community is left behind.

GLOSSARYGreen New Deal (p. 6 in the transcript, 27:24)The Green New Deal is a proposed framework of policies designed to combat climate change while simultaneously addressing economic inequality through large-scale public investment in clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and job creation. The term draws inspiration from President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, which aimed to revive the U.S. economy during the Great Depression through government-led economic programs. The Green New Deal, however, focuses specifically on transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy while ensuring economic opportunities for all, particularly marginalized communities. The most well-known iteration of the Green New Deal in the U.S. was introduced as a non-binding congressional resolution in 2019 by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Edward J. Markey. It outlined broad goals such as achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by investing in renewable energy, modernizing transportation and infrastructure, and ensuring a just transition for workers in fossil fuel industries. It also emphasized social policies, including universal healthcare, affordable housing, and access to clean water and air. Supporters argue that the Green New Deal is essential for preventing catastrophic climate change and fostering economic justice, while critics claim it is financially impractical and would require massive government spending. Despite controversy, the Green New Deal has influenced climate policy discussions worldwide. source
Sadly, nine years into Trump's dominion and this supposed juggernaut of a MAGA movement, the RINOs are actually stronger than ever. Beginning in Florida, then moving to South Carolina and Idaho, I explain how RINOs are subverting Ron DeSantis' agenda and fighting with Freedom Caucuses everywhere. Yet they are now able to do so without fear of reprisal because conservative media have distracted the base with fake wins, they have failed to properly steer Trump's endorsements, and the RINOs lie to voters about the facts and motivations behind their actions. We also have candidates running for governor who are invited by conservative media, but they never press the candidates to take a stand on specific fights that will actually determine the outcome of their stated campaign promises. Finally, I note how congressional Republicans continue to subvert the election mandate, specifically to get rid of the Green New Deal. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I have a soft spot for the Dirtbag Left now that I never used to have. Listening to them viciously destroy the Democratic Party scratches that itch. They were ahead of the curve, and the Democrats would have been better off not snuffing out the movement way back when. But snuff it out, we did. Back in 2016, I was in a Facebook group devoted to doing nothing but hating on the “Bernie bros.” I spent too much of my precious time trying to stop them as a movement because they threatened Hillary Clinton's win. Like every Democrat now, I was afraid of democracy. The Democrats find themselves in that place where the three characters from Jaws end up. They've tried harpoons and three barrels on him, and nothing has worked. They finally decide to try Hooper's shark cage, even though Brody knows there's no chance it will work. “You got any better suggestions?” barks Hooper. That Quint entertains the idea of bringing in Hooper's cage at all was the miracle. And the desperation. The Democrats are ready for the anti-shark cage, and so Bernie Sanders and AOC are on a western tour to “stop the oligarchy.” They finally have the exact right enemy in Elon Musk and Bernie's “billionaires.” Musk represents the death of their dream, that no one can get there on their wits, hard work, and ambition alone. No, this is a country where no one can rise unless everyone can rise.Trump's tariffs are a potential solution to America's crippling problem of income inequality that has destroyed the middle class. That's the MAGA populism at work. Bernie's populism fixes the problem with much bigger government. The rich pay more to redistribute the wealth. Is this finally the moment when we can Make America Socialist Again? A major step forward from FDR's New Deal and Johnson's Great Society? Do the Democratic Socialists have a real shot at winning the nomination away from the feckless, flaccid centrists? Is this finally the moment when the Dirtbag Left and the identity politics utopians merge to create one big movement, a Green New Deal? Will Trump's radical change finally be the thing that pushes the majority in a direction they never would have gone?Recent polls show that younger generations are much more accepting and fond of socialism than older generations. It's not that hard to do the math and see what might be coming next. How it StartedAccording to Neil Howe and William Strauss's 1997 book, 2008 was the crisis that sparked our Fourth Turning. This pattern plays out every 80 years, with each generation being born and living a lifetime before everything radically changes to restart America in a new direction, like the American Revolution, the Civil War, the Great Depression, and World War II.We still don't know how big or how bad our Fourth Turning will be. To Strauss and Howe, the $700 billion bank bailout was the moment the public woke up to the imminent disaster of income inequality and a bloated oligarchy. The bailout birthed two populist movements: Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party.Occupy Wall Street became the Bernie movement which, after Hillary's loss in 2016, was dissolved into the Democrat machine. The Tea Party became Trump and MAGA. The question we have to ask is which side will prevail when the Fourth Turning comes to a close, when the policies are cemented and the country is united?According to Howe's new book, The Fourth Turning is Here, he edges ever so slightly to the Left's side of things because the dominant generation, the Millennials, are a “go along to get along” personality type.At the moment, at least to me, the MAGA side offers more for ambitious millennials, especially young men. MAGA is now the side of innovation and economic growth. If they succeed, there will be no need for a rescue mission. But if they fail? Ben Shapiro has been dropping the prediction for a few weeks now that if Trump's economy begins to fail, the power that will rise is the equal and opposite reaction to Trump's populism: a lurch to the hard left.Bernie and AOC are ready to bring the movement back.Is this finally the moment where both Bernie and AOC have the right kind of anger and the right enemy they need to tap into the collective outrage of all of those crazy people out there losing their minds? Ghost and Matt Ehret break down the rise of Mark Carney, the globalist banker now positioned to take over Canada, and his deep ties to the World Economic Forum, Bilderberg, and the British Crown. They expose Canada's long-standing role as a tool of the British Empire, the technocratic networks shaping its policies, and how Trudeau's departure signals a shift in the global power game. Plus, they connect the dots between Carney's financial schemes, the push for a Green New Deal economy, and the historic battle to keep Canada from being used as a wedge against US-Russia relations. If you think Canada is just America's polite northern neighbor, think again...this episode will make you see it in a whole new light.
Near the start of this episode, Yeva Nersisyan talks with Steve about leftist economists who are still wedded to the belief that government spending relies on taxpayer money. She says if an academic on the left uses the ‘taxpayer dollar' framing, then you cannot be surprised when the right uses it too – to say they're saving taxpayer money, cutting wastefulness, cutting inefficiency. It's why being consistent is so important. If one side can use it, the other side can too.“It leads to the Elon Musks of the world using this taxpayer money trope to basically take a sledgehammer or a chainsaw to the public sector.” Yeva and Steve revisit some basics of MMT, including the understanding that a government is not like a household. Our own spending doesn't really affect our own income. We'll still get our wages, we will still have that, and then we will continue consuming, but consuming less and therefore end up with more savings. But it doesn't work for the economy as a whole. Because for the economy as a whole, if spending goes down, that means there is now less income, and less income means someone somewhere is earning less and therefore they have to cut their consumption and they also have to cut their saving. And it becomes this cycle where, okay, someone cut their consumption, now someone else is earning less or the grocery store is earning less, right? And now they have to fire their workers. Now their workers don't have income and they are spending less, and so on and so forth. Yeva and Steve go into other insights of MMT, including sectoral balances and the reality of the so-called national debt. They unravel the absurd dynamics of current economic policy and look at the implications of proposed spending cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Fallout from the government's ruthless abandonment of social programs will be disastrous. Yeva Nersisyan is an associate professor of economics at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. President Trump's Administration Orders Sweeping Freeze on All Federal Grants and Loans Effective Today President Donald Trump's administration has enacted a temporary suspension of all federal grants and loans, effective today, Tuesday, January 28, 2025. This strategic pause, orchestrated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), is designed to facilitate a comprehensive review of federal financial assistance programs, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are utilized efficiently and in accordance with the administration's objectives. This initiative reflects President Trump's unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility and his dedication to eliminating wasteful spending. By reassessing financial assistance programs, the administration aims to redirect resources toward endeavors that bolster national security, stimulate economic growth, and uphold American values. In a two-page memo, the directive specifically targets programs associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, woke gender ideology, and the Green New Deal. This temporary pause will provide the Administration time to review agency programs and determine the best uses of the funding for those programs consistent with the law and the President's priorities.
