“Hey there, toy people!”In this episode, we are reminded that you can indeed chase your passion and make a fulfilling life out of it. We grow up with people leading us to believe that following your passion is overrated. My guest this week, “The Toy Coach”, reminds us that that simply is not the case, that you can in fact create a lucrative career from something you enjoy as long as you stay true to your path. She and I talk about pursuing dreams - for her in particular, being able to do what she loved as a kid even as now as a grown-up, and on a much bigger scale. We also talk about her journey from working in corporate to starting her own company, and how you too can thrive without having to give up things that make you happy.ABOUT OUR GUESTAzhelle Wade has been working in the toy industry for over a decade, climbing up and across the ladder, pushing against bias, surviving a cancer scare, breaking through glass ceilings and fighting for the salary she believed she deserved. Before the age of 30, she made it to Vice President of a toy company. Later, she decided that achieving her dream job wasn't enough - so she sought out to make a bigger impact on the toy industry…What does this mean in her case? It means that she transformed herself to become “The Toy Coach” - an educator and a source of inspiration for creative inventors and entrepreneurs who think they've got a good idea for a toy or a game, but aren't sure where to start. Her goal is to build a bridge into this notoriously closed off industry, that welcomes newcomers in with open arms.Listen to the full interview to find out more about her story!Azhelle is also the host of “Making It In The Toy Industry” podcast.Find out more about her work on: https://www.thetoycoach.com/ABOUT OUR HOSTKen Eslick is an Entrepreneur, Author, Podcaster, Tony Robbins Trainer, Life Coach, Husband of 35+ Years, and Grandfather. KEY TAKEAWAYS We often assume that success comes from iterating on the triumphs of others. But often, we can achieve staggering success through looking for the new ways to break ground. One of the more interesting effects of the pandemic has been the sudden uptick in playtime. With less travel happening, people are focussing on how to enrich their lives in playful ways closer to home. We often have our dreams derailed by those who cannot see the potential in them. Building a business based on what you love allows you to assert positivity into not just your ambitions, but the lives of others. The truth of the matter is that success doesn't become easier the more you have. The higher you reach, the more difficult the issues that you face. This is why being passionate about your idea or central conceit can push you to overcome even the toughest challenges. BEST MOMENTS 'That helped me to get in touch with my own creativity and get in touch with the purpose behind toy creation' 'Don't try to mean a lot to everyone. Try to mean a lot to someone' 'I want to build a business where I feel good about it, and I feel like I'm uplifting myself' 'You have to stay true to who you are, and if you have faith in that decision, then ultimately you will be successful' VALUABLE RESOURCES Scale Up with Nick Bradley: scaleup.vip/podcast Scale Up Your Business, coaching/consulting: https://suyb.global Join the free Scale Up Your Business community: scaleup.vip/community To download a free gift from Nick - The 5 Reasons Why Your Business Will Never Get To 8-Figures ... There are some people who are so interesting, who have such fascinating lives and jobs, that I can't wait to invite them to the podcast. Then they turn around and scare the life out of me with their book choices. That's what happened with today's guest, Azhelle Wade. Azhelle designs toys for a living, and mentors others in the toy design process. She is sweet and funny and an utterly delightful guest. But the book she chose, "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston, is about a near-catastrophic outbreak of the Ebola virus. I don't read a lot of scary books, but I can honestly say this might be the scariest book ever written. Azhelle and I had a great laugh about my raging anxiety, and then the interview turned surprisingly candid and honest. I know you're going to love her. Today's podcast guest, Azhelle Wade, has worked in the toy industry for over 10 years with companies like Toys R Us, Horizon Group USA, and now Creative Kids, as the VP of Brand and Product. Azhelle launched The Toy Coach when she noticed that too many inventors attend toy shows or pitch meetings with “half baked” ideas that they'd spent too much money on. Her podcast, Making It in The Toy Industry teaches inventors how to keep their toy and game ideas toyetic, cost-effective, and how to answer buyer needs. We discuss Azhelle's 5-step process to unlocking your ideas, which are game changers whether you're designing toys or anything else for that matter!
