Every community across the globe produces waste. This waste can come from landfills, decomposing food, animal manure, and wastewater sludge. As this waste decomposes, it emits natural gas – primarily composed of methane, which is a naturally occurring but very potent and harmful greenhouse gas. In fact, methane is nearly 30 times more potent at trapping heat in our atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) projects capture this methane before it harms our environment and repurposes it to create clean and reliable energy that is used to generate electricity, power our vehicles, heat our homes, cook our food, and many other productive purposes. In this episode, Chad and Gil speak with Michael Bakas, Executive Vice President at Ameresco, a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Michael details the various RNG production pathways and revenue streams, discusses his views on RNG market growth drivers, and makes a compelling case for the essential role of RNG in the energy transition.

With our minisodes having taken such a long break before returning to the podcast, we thought it would be fitting to discuss time skips. Are they a crutch in story writing or an important tool to pump new life into a show? All we know is Jason sometimes wishes Troy would disappear for a time […]
Did you know The Baka Club now has an official website for their podcasts? It’s true. And if you don’t know, this minisode is going to make sure you learn about it. A lot. Like this is straight up pandering to get the word out at this point. Also we talk about hacking in anime. […]
My guest this week is Iasonas Bakas. Iasonas is a full time structural engineer, part time PhD candidate and a creative at heart. He dedicates the majority of his spare time to drafting portraits in graphite and exploring the influence of graphic design on traditional drawing. He is fascinated by the individuality of each one of us and as such he tries to capture not necessarily the fine detail in his work but mainly the gesture, expression and emotion. He is just stepping into the use of oil paint, while he is also planning to start exhibiting again as art spaces become available after COVID. I loved talking with Iasonas about how his technical career as a structural engineer benefits his art. In my experience, we do not often hear stories exemplifying how we can be both corporate and creative (usually the end goal is making enough money from your art to leave the corporate world behind!). But, like me, Iasonas actively enjoys integrating both into his life. I am happy to share this conversation in the hope it inspires even just one of you to take up your space as a creative despite having a technical background... there's no rulebook for creativity and, as Iasonas shows in this episode, your multi faceted nature is what makes you and your creativity oh so beautifully unique. In this episode we discuss: - How Iasonas's career as a structural engineer, and pursuits as a PhD student, inform his art. - How he, as a self taught artist, structures and executes creative projects like learning to draw. - How to avoid overwhelm when juggling a career and creative pursuits on the side. - The importance of focusing on progress over perfectionism, and how to value progress first. - The harsh truths about the difficulties of selling art online and how he intends to set himself up for creative business success. Katrina Bakas is a senior technical product manager at Amazon Web Services, who’s working on CloudFront. Prior to this role, she focused on observability as a senior product manager at Pivotal Software (and VMware upon acquisition) and worked as a product manager at Firepoint Solutions and a senior digital producer at Transamerica, among other positions. Join Corey and Katrina as they talk about what exactly it is a senior technical product manager does and how that role changes from company to company and even within the same company, how CloudFront is designed to focus on the things it does really well without additional bells and whistles, how it’s easy to complain about the things we don’t have instead of the things we do have, how Katrina focuses on developing new features that will help the most users instead of optimizing for niche use cases, some of the most interesting use cases Katrina has seen in the CDN space, and more.

The Baka Club just watched one of those Troy pick’s that he didn’t properly research and that covers dark subject matter without any warning.

Poet's Row is set to release two new EPs this weekend -- "The Artichoke" and "The Armadillo." Both records showcase a different side of the Denver band: The former is solely the folk duets of founding members Mickey Bakas and Emily Hobbs, while the latter incorporates a full band. Poet's Row celebrates the EP releases with a two-night stint at Syntax Physic Opera on Friday and Saturday. Before those shows, the band stopped into the CPR Performance Studio for the first time since 2013. They performed four songs and spoke with Alisha Sweeney about recruiting members of Clouds & Mountains and Chimney Choir for "The Armadillo" and how Bakas and Hobbs balance their marriage with their band duties.
Pulse Points is an occasional podcast from the Indiana University School of Nursing. In this episode, we interview Dr. Tamely, Bakas PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN and discuss her research in caregiver support for stroke survivors and their families.
‘Echt’, zegt Bakas. ‘Er is zoveel moois te doen.’
