VBO talks about why he doesn't consider himself a gangsta rapper. He talks about being inspired by Nipsey Hussle. He talks about being inspired to rap after hearing a song with Sneezy who he ended up collaborating with by giving him a tattoo. VBO is currently working on two albums. He says he was rushing to put out '1 Life 2 Live' and going through a journey of figuring out if music was for him. He also talks about coming from the streets how it was about discretion, where music forced him to be more visible. We also discuss our mutual admiration for Warren Buffett. VBO also discusses not being sure if he is the person that really wants to floss and his mom teaching him about the importance of money. Pat Conroy was a rare writer, both a critical and popular success. He wrote The Water Is Wide, The Lords Of Discipline, The Great Santini and The Prince Of Tides among many other titles. His 1995 appearance on Idiot's Delight came a week before the publication of the novel Beach Music. His visit with Vin was the first stop on a nationwide book tour. Months later he left an unsolicited tongue-in-cheek late-night message on Producer Kara Manning's voicemail, condemning us for ruining the rest of the tour; he had had such a rewarding experience on ID that every other stop on the tour was a huge disappointment by comparison. That reaction, and the interview which inspired it, is one of Vin's proudest accomplishments.

Summer kickoff concerts at Coachman Park in Clearwater are a QYK tradition. It used to be known as "Fun 'N Sun" but now it's the Bay 2 Beach Music and Arts Festival. But it's same great country event QYK listeners have enjoyed for years. While some of the biggest names in country like Jason Aldean have been headliners, it's fun to me to take a look back and see some of the bands that have played to tiny audiences because they were the opening act! Many plan their day out and only show up for the main act, but with QYK concerts over the years, you'd have been smart to get there early or you would have missed Brett Eldredge, The Band Perry, Kip Moore, Jon Pardi and Chris Janson. I talked with Steve Austin, who's been bringing the country superstars on stage for years at Coachman Park. https://www.instagram.com/p/BiFdPvAhqAY/?taken-by=wqykgeno

Shag The Movie (1989) is a great little entertainment! It captures perfectly, and with high humor and enormous love and heart, the Beach Music phenomenon of the 1960s. Today, however, it touches a current issue -- right from the opening credits. What do you do with distressing material -- images and associations that relate to things you'd rather forget? The general answer seems to be, well, you burn them! You do away with them. You haul them down -- and out.

Lee Kelley has learned to adapt his drumming style to fit whatever gig has come his way. Lee's range of gigs have included backing up many artists in Nashville including Gary Allan, Mark Chestnut, Heidi Newfield as well as alt-country singer Chris Knight. Originally from the Charlotte North Carolina area, Lee learned drumming from his neighbor at an early age and continued his informal education working with and learning from popular local bands such as Sugar Creek and Too Much Sylvia. Encouraged by Eddie Bayers to move, Lee hit the streets of Nashville in 1996. After embracing the drumming style of classic country music, Lee quickly found himself working with country artist Gary Allan. Lee talks about the many artist gigs that followed and how he has continued to stay busy in the Nashville music scene. This interview was recorded February 3rd 2015. See photos here.
