He's a 3:57 miler, he's the Beer Mile World Record Holder @ 4:28, he's a top athlete, proudly hailing from Windsor, Ontario Canada, and now Corey is a RUNEGADE. Fame found Corey, one summer evening in 2016, when he unofficially smashed the Beer Mile World Record. With his friends recording, they posted the video of Corey smashing the World Record to YouTube. He became an instant celebrity and has been atop of the Beer Mile leaderboard ever since. Always with a big smile and a smooth stride, Corey lowered the World Record to 4:28. He now has his sights set on smashing his WR at the 2024 Beer Mile In case you're wondering, the Beer Mile is just like it sounds and not as easy as one may think. Drink a beer, run a 400m lap, lather, rinse and repeat 3 more times - Corey is the best in the World at this, by a long shot. But, there's more to Corey than drinking some brews and running around the track. Corey is an alumni of the University of Windsor, a professional runner for Adidas and has represented Canada on six occasions, allowing him to travel the world and run down his dreams. Corey remains a top athlete, is well-known in the community and across the globe. He shares a few training tips, what runners and spectators can expect at the Beer Mile World Classic and what's next for him - spoiler alert, he's making the jump to triathlons and longer distances - watch out world - Corey Bellemore has only just begun. And we will be cheering him on when he drops the World Record, even further, this August in his hometown - a can't miss event. Thank you to Corey, we're proud of how you represent Canada and Windsor. After weather and the NYPD threatened our traditions by canceling the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut, an American hero, stepped up to get the contestants back on stage before winning another title. Before the fellas talk about how great Joey Jaws is, they discuss the Beer Mile World Championships, and Corey Bellemore dusting the competition by 22 seconds with only one shoe. Plus, a runner in the Atlanta 10k lost out on $10,000 after making a wrong turn just before the finish line, costing her the race.  The fellas debate where Joey Chestnut ranks in terms of Greatest American Heroes, and it leads to Mike and Cesar drafting their all-time Team America.  The conversation shifts to football, as Mike and Cesar roast BYU for their horrible field reveal on Twitter after moving to the Big 12, and the guys discuss the new NFL game coming out with Colin Kaepernick as the cover athlete. The 2022 Beer Mile World Classic made headlines across Outside Magazine, Runner's World, Food & Wine, and Women's Running for a number of reasons. For starters, Corey Bellemore set a new Beer Mile World Record with cans in 4:49. Elizabeth Laseter also set a new world record on the women's side — or rather, she would have but was disqualified for drinking outside of the chug zone. Elizabeth joins us today to talk through that DQ. Thanks to the fastest chugging in the field, Melanie Pozdol took the women's title in 6:41 and joins the show today to share her experience competing on the world stage for the first time. The cans vs bottles debate is getting its time in the limelight as this was the first-ever beer mile world championship requiring the use of cans due to the host facility restricting glass. “I think a big reason why I went for a good beer mile time was because of that first Flotrack championship. I remember streaming it live and thinking ‘They’re running a 5-flat beer mile. This is fast.’ But, at the same time thinking, ‘These guys don’t have as good of a PR as me in the mile so why can’t I run that sort of time? I can do that.’" Chris Robertson is the second-fastest beer miler in history and the American record holder in the event with his 4:37 personal best. The only person faster than him is world record holder and Canada’s own Corey Bellemore who has run 4:34. Listener’s discretion is advised: There’s obviously lots of beer talk on this episode. We wanted to make it clear that we’re not encouraging irresponsible or dangerous behavior or drinking. That’s obviously the case if you’re not 21 years old or legal drinking age. Chris is a professional at it so some of what you might hear comes from his experience getting to that level. In this episode, I got a chance to sit down with him while I spent a few weeks in Chicago. We talk about how he got so fast at this, we’ll dive into some of the history and evolution since the first sub-five minute beer mile was run in 2014, how fast he thinks the limit can be and more. Chris has also run 10:18 for the beer two-mile, which is just a disgusting performance so we talk about that and his hopes as the new owner of BeerMile.com Subscribe to the Beer Mile Media YouTube channel. The story of Corey Bellemore is one unlike any other. First showing his hand as a runner to watch at the University level, running as a Windsor Lancer, it was his success as a beer miler that truly vaulted him to fame, essentially debuting as the world record holder. Throughout that time, Corey, with the help of a few sharp individuals, was able to turn that notoriety into a way to advance his race opportunities, sans alcohol, including spots at a Diamond League meet and the Millrose games. The last few years have shown Corey taking full advantage of those opportunities given, and they paid off in a big way this season when he finally dipped under the 3:40 1,500m barrier in Sweden. This week we chat with Corey about that race, switching coaches, and a whole lot more.

Whether you’re just trying out your first pair of track spikes, or you’re running at the world championships, for most runners inclined that way, it all traces back to the twilight meet. These “all-comer” affairs provide the venue for testing tactics, setting personal bests and pretty much everything in between. While twilights can often be a local affair, maybe featuring clubs from a few towns over, there is one such meet in London, Ontario that has grown into something a lot more. 1,500m Night put on by London Runner, as part of the Runner’s Choice London Runner Distance Series, is, as the name suggests, an evening of strictly 1,500s, with seed times ranging from 8 minutes flat to 3:40. This year’s iteration featured over 400 runners from 4 countries and 7 provinces competing in 30 different heats, but while the stats are impressive, it's the stories that come from it that are truly memorable. Whether it be the countless tales of PBs from runners that run the range of times, or when Nicole Sifuentes looked to qualify for the 2015 World Championships with pacer Melissa Bishop, and ended up bringing a young Gabriella Stafford to her first sub-4:10 1,500 (a 4:07.44), or last years meet when the entire collective of engaged spectators got on their feet, making all sorts of noise as Corey Bellemore raced his last lap, finishing with a new PB of 3:40.1. The lore is building for this meet, which is why I felt it appropriate to bring in a couple of runners who found great success at this year’s edition. Lucia Stafford, a 4:09 1,500m runner, who has spent much of the last year bouncing back from a medical procedure, and is having one of her best seasons (as well, she is the younger sister of Olympian and national record holder Gabriella), and Isaiah Frielink, UWO standout, last year’s national junior 1,500m champ, and owner of a new 3:44 PB. Both had the fastest times at 1,500m night, and both are on the show.

The Speed River Inferno and Canadian 10,000m championships, with the high performance sections kicking off at 7 o’clock at Alumni stadium, features guys like Nick Willis, Anthony Romaniw, Genevieve Lalonde, Kate Van Buskirk, Corey Bellemore and way more, including 11 Olympians. I know you’re a track fan, that’s why you’re listening, so I really can’t stress enough how important it is for us as a community to come and support meets like this. Anyway on this week’s bonus episode, we’ll catch up with two bahds of the show, Anthony Romaniw and Genevieve Lalonde. As well, if you listen close, you’ll catch the Macho Man make a cameo appearance.

Breakthroughs...they’re what we live and train for in sport. They can be years in the making, the fruit of consistency, or they can come relatively quicker, perhaps a reaction of realizing a different part of training. Either way, the feeling that comes from reaching that next level is one that we chase, and one that is made of pure elation. On this week’s show, we chat with 2 runners who have recently had big breakthroughs: Corey Bellemore, training out of Windsor, became the latest Canadian to break 4 in the mile going 3:57 in Boston last weekend, and Colin Fewer, a newly minted master out of Newfoundland has handled adversity in the form of injuries and an invasive surgery, but at 40, he just ran an amazing 66:53 at the houston half.

What a wild week it has been. The 2017 Canadian Track and Field Championships are all wrapped up for another year, after days of top level action in Ottawa brought to you by the Ottawa Lions and Athletics Canada. I was lucky enough to take a few days in, enjoy the action, listen to some great stories, and package it all up into this file you're currently listening to. This episode doesn’t quite follow the regular format of long form interviews, in fact if I had to describe it, I’d say it’s something like one of those old time christmas variety shows with a ton of surprise cameos along the way. This week, we catch up with Kevin Nault from One Track Mind, Rob Denault and Justyn Knight battle for trivia supremacy...again, Evan Dunfee talks about broadcasting, walking and his place in the world as an athlete, Jeff Tweedle, Corey Bellemore, Rachel Cliff, Chris Winter, they’re all on the show this week.

With nothing but the World Championships left to go in this indoor season, I think we can call this one a success. Whether it be Melissa Bishop setting a new national record in the indoor 8, “friend of the show” Justyn Knight getting 3rd in the NCAA 3000, or countless other memorable moments, it’s been a good one. On today’s episode, we’ll take a look back at the season that was, with, Corey Bellemore, the golden Lancer who cleaned up at the CIS Championships last weekend, and our in house run pundit, Jeff Costen, who will join us to chat indoors, marathons and H2MCs.
