In this unique and exciting podcast episode, host Doc Jake interviews Danny Matta, the original founder of Athletes' Potential and the current founder and owner of PT Biz. It's a full circle moment as Danny was one of the very first guests on the podcast when Doc Jake took over AP.Danny takes us on a journey of how Athletes' Potential started as a side project while he was teaching, serving as a means to validate and test the concepts he was teaching clinicians. Through word-of-mouth, the business grew organically as Danny saw patients individually or in small groups. This allowed for a deeper level of education and personal connection with each patient. Danny's passion lies in working with diverse patients, and he values learning about their unique lives and values and using this knowledge to help others. The discussion delves into the benefits of the cash-based, one-on-one model that Athletes' Potential follows. This model allows for more time with patients, enabling a better understanding of their goals and the provision of personalized care, rather than solely focusing on their baseline health. Both Danny and Jake agree that this model attracts self-motivated individuals seeking something different from the traditional physical therapy practice. Interestingly, Danny shares that the most memorable patients are those with intriguing lives and values, rather than elite athletes.Danny's vision extended beyond Athletes' Potential when he founded PT Biz, aiming to have a greater impact by teaching other clinicians based on his experiences. Today, PT Biz helps over 60,000 patients annually. Both of Danny's businesses focus on helping people live active, pain-free lives so they can pursue their passions. Jake commends Danny for maintaining his high values and positive impact as his businesses have grown significantly in scale. As the episode concludes, Danny expresses the joy he finds in continuing to be involved in the physical therapy profession through his successful businesses.

He quickly scaled this practice past himself and is able to run the business in less than 10 hours a month today. In 2017 Danny set out to teach other clinicians to do the same thing by starting Physical Therapy Biz. He published his book F*ck Insurance in 2018 as a roadmap for all clinicians to succeed in the cash-based model. To date, he and the PT Biz team have helped 1000+ clinicians directly get started and scale their cash or hybrid practices. It's a timeless question: What makes a leader great?   Some will say it's empathy and compassion, others believe it's trust and accountability or the ability to inspire"    I'd argue it's none of the above but rather the skill of social agility-  knowing what to be in the moment, in accordance with the context, combined with compassion- that allows a leader to truly stand out.   It's for this very reason that we wanted to talk to Danny Matta. With experience as a physical therapist in the military setting, an entrepreneur, CEO of a cash-based PT practice, author and now educator, it's safe to say today's guest Danny Matta knows a little bit about finding that social agility.     And the leadership advice he shares today comes form years of iteration, and a willingness to learn, adapt and grow.   With that said, as opposed to an interview, today's episode is more conversational -  like you're eavesdropping on two people catching up over coffee.  We cover a couple questions asked from our 30-day Challenge members, along with other topics such as:  How to negotiate with somebody who may be hiding something or not telling you the entire truth (22:30) How being an authentic boss who cares about the wellbeing of your employees results in a more productive and happier employee (42:30) How to deal with the creeping fears of failure and/or success (48:45) How to get your point across when it seems like the person next to you doesn't really value your message (53:40) You can find out more about Danny below: Website Book - F*CK Insurance The P.T. Your price says a TON about your practice and what people expect. We're heading to our live event where we see so many cash PTs stuck in that 120 − 150 range. Broadcasting physical therapists around the world is this is the PT past. May I introduce to introduce you. Here's your host physical therapist Jimmy MacKay back on the show, host of the podcast and founder of athletes potential in Atlanta and Decatur Georgia. Adel comeback show, ma'am. Yes. Jimmy. Thank you so much for having me on again it easily my favorite podcast to be on good job of like interviewing people and just so like team listen to south you, and it's also cool. I don't know if I have a record in anything else. But when I told my I'm gonna tell my wife about this. And I she's gonna find me more tractive. Honestly, that's what I bring table. You bring that. Mabel up here. More attractive, but we gotta add something else to your resume. I mean, we should also let people know you do business coaching specifically within the world of physical therapy. But now, author I'll be honest, Pat myself on the back when I read a book, and you went out, and you wrote a book. Yeah. For somebody that also I have probably about fifty books that I'm halfway through have way through media. And I told my wife I was like, but if you add up the fifty percent of all of them, I'm through twenty five. Good. That's pretty good. Yeah. It's pretty solid. I just quick to kind of move on to something else. So the fact that actually sat down and for eight months put together my thought process on what I've learned in business. So for in particular in the cash practice realm is an interesting to me that actually you know, was able to finish it. But also, it's it's something that I think that will be there and my kids can pick it up and not granted the titles of extreme. But they're no they're no strangers to f word in the house, by the way, they they can use it in context, and they're five and seven I mean, they can read and they can see like, oh, man. Mom and dad like, wow, they did this thing. And you know, they started this business. And I kinda talk about how I got started. I have kind of like an interesting story about how we left the military and went into business that we knew nothing about and some of the mistakes we made along the way which is a lot and hopefully people can learn from that. And then we really dive into stages of a cash practice, which I think are important in. No because I look at like martial arts. You know, you don't just go one day and say, okay, I'm just going to get a black belt. You may think that, but you know, you go and you. For a while. And then you get a blue belt, and you get a purple belt. And then you have these stages along the way this show that you're improving your learning new things, and you should celebrate those. So for me, I thought it was important to define the stage of cash practice, then to go through the two main kind of linchpins that ...

Dr. Danny Matta is doing some of the most important work in the field of physical therapy and chiropractic today, he is educating practitioners. . If you are like most Americans, the first question you ask when considering a practitioner is "do you take my insurance?", this is the WRONG QUESTION. The right question is "Can you solve my problem?" Nothing else matters! . Dr. Matta is teaching practitioners how to answer this question with a resounding "yes", and he's teaching them how to get paid their value for it. As a potential patient, this is the position you want your doctor in. You want him/her to feel fulfilled in their role. You want them to be financially stable. If your doctor isn't financially secure, you run the risk of seeing a doctor who makes decisions about your health and well being based on what it's worth to them financially. Episode 26 – Hunter McIntyre This exciting show kicks off with a world class announcement from our very own Dr. Danny Matta of Athletes Potential.  Danny is donating 100% of the proceeds from Physio Coach foot and ankle course directly to Juliet and Kelly Starrett’s non-profit Standup Kids.  How cool is that! Not only can you get your CEU’s in check via the internet from a world class provider but you’ll also know that money off the top won’t be paying for some doctors 4th home, it’s going to help fight childhood obesity.  For more on Danny’s course and Stand up kids check the links below. http://www.athletespotential.com/physiocoach-foot-and-ankle.html http://standupkids.org/ On with the show notes! Hunter McIntyre is a world class obstacle racer.  In 2014 he was the Spartan Race Male Points leader and is looking to repeat the feet in 2015.  For more on Reebok Spartan Race check out http://www.spartan.com. Aside from racing Hunter is dipping into coaching, has always been into training, and going to be co- hosting a wild reality show coming soon where himself and his cohosts attack the world’s toughest endurance races – Boundless http://tv.esquire.com/shows/boundless. Hunter’s first recommendation for ramping up training for a race is to understand and acclimate to the distance of the race and get used to moving and hustling for that duration of time.  Hunter also realized early that building strength, joint stability and his lower back through weightlifting were paramount in his early success in the Spartan series.  Also, mixing running, large compound barbell movements like lunging and front squat, along with 1 to 2 AMRAP or crossfit style workouts throughout the training week are also important. The guys also spend a few minutes discussing the kettlebell.  Hunter gives his point of view regarding Charles Poliquin’s recent negative comments about the kettlebell on the Time Ferris Podcast and how he believes folks can utilize the bell without negatively affecting their back. The gang shifts gears into Hunter’s project, Obstacle Dominator, his business partner Ben Greenfeild, the world of podcasting, and nutrition.  Hunter also lets the guys know why he has gone vegan and how it is currently affecting his training and performance.  Carbohydrate consumption,
