On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including how with all the resources allocated to the Buffalo Bills defense through free agency and now the draft, it better be a unit that looks dramatically better in 2025.Since the 2024 season ended with an AFC title game loss at Arrowhead against Kansas City, the Bills notable offensive changes have consisted of signing Josh Palmer and Laviska Shenault while letting Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper walk. They failed to add a wide receiver until the seventh round of this latest NFL draft and did grab a primarily blocking tight end late in the fifth. Meanwhile they signed Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, Michael Hoecht, Darrick Forrest, Tre White and and Dane Jackson in free agency. They then proceeded to use their first five picks and six of the first seven on defense in the draft. It's essentially an entire defensive makeover from last year. That's fine, but as the guys discuss it better lead to consistently positive changes because if it doesn't, especially come January it should be a direct indictment against Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott, Bobby Babich and other defensive coaches. They also spend some time talking Joe's trip to Western New York over the past week, including meeting up with Patrick at Resurgence Brewing last Thursday for a Bills draft party and live podcast afterwards. That plus another Mt. Flushmore, fan comments and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran dives into what the Buffalo Bills have done at cornerback so far this offseason and perhaps more importantly, what they will do at cornerback before the 2025 regular season begins.Brandon Beane has been busy adding to the defense so far during this free agency period, but those biggest additions have come on the defensive line where they've signed Joey Bosa, Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi. The safety position has also seen Damar Hamlin re-sign as well as the addition of Darrick Forrest. The cornerback position is starting to stick out as a need at this point, perhaps the team's biggest. The Bills did bring back Dane Jackson after letting him walk a year ago, but Rasul Douglas remains in free agent limbo and former first-round pick/bust Kaiir Elam was traded to Dallas. Whether Jackson ends up starting alongside Christian Benford, cornerback is in need of talent influx. Patrick talks about Benford, his thoughts on Jackson returning and three veteran free agent possibilities that could still happen, including Douglas.More than likely however, the Bills long term and perhaps immediate starting solution come come through the draft at the end of April. Patrick breaks down three prospects that could be very enticing to the Bills in the first round as well as three others who could be solid day two picks and contribute right away. That plus some NFL rule change proposals and more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss and assign a grade for each part of the Buffalo Bills offseason through this point in addition to discussing the offseason for some AFC rivals. To say it's been an interesting offseason so far for the Bills may truly be an understatement. Props to anyone who had the Bills signing a Bosa in free agency and multiple defenders who will be suspended to start the season on their bingo cards, but here we are. Matt has plenty of thoughts on the Bills “swinging big” with Joey Bosa while Brandon Beane, rightfully so caught heat for inking Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi to deals despite pending suspensions, the former a situation Beane knew about. That's just a part of an eventful offseason. The Bills also extended three key young core players in addition to the big Josh Allen contract. That's discussed and evaluated as are a few re-signings including Ty Johnson and Damar Hamlin as well as a few more low key adds like Laviska Shenault, Dane Jackson and Darrick Forrest. The guys also evaluate and discuss how the rest of the AFC east has done during this period in addition to the Bengals ponying up for both their star receivers, the Chiefs having a very interesting offseason and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss the first three days of free agency for the Buffalo Bills and specifically what's become an overhaul of their defensive line following three significant additions. It wasn't exactly a secret that the Bills were going to look to improve a defensive line that was good at times in 2024 but also floundered too often as well, none more than last year's AFC championship game loss in Kansas City. Bills general manager Brandon Beane took some pretty big steps to try and improve the unit this week, signing Michael Hoecht on Monday before the big one, Joey Bosa on Tuesday and following it up with a third addition on Wednesday morning, Larry Ogunjobi. The guys break down all three moves and discuss what they like and don't like about them, and there's plenty of both on Bosa and Ogunjobi.Beane also addressed safety on Wednesday, bringing back Damar Hamlin on a one-year deal and also signing Darrick Forrest. Patrick thinks Hamlin being back is a reflection of an open market that rejected him, something Matt definitely disagrees with. With these moves plus the signing of Josh Palmer and re-signing of Ty Johnson earlier, it certainly appears the meat and potatoes of the Bills roster is set heading into NFL draft season next. That's with the exception of cornerback. Both guys have thoughts on where this roster stands as well as some reaction to happenings around the NFL and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Standig Room Only: A show about the Washington Football Team and D.C. sports
The Athletic's Ben Standig is back and talking about how the Washington Commanders might change, well, many things amid a three-game losing streak. Ben goes position by position to see what upside moves are even feasible. That includes the secondary where changes are coming after Darrick Forrest and Jeremy Reaves land on IR. That hurts the defense and special teams, but also creates playing time for Quan Martin, right? Also what to make of holding serve with the coaching staff, Chase Young's stats and more.
Jeremy Reaves and Darrick Forrest are going to IR
10.9.23 Hour 21:00- We open up the segment discussing Jeremy Reaves & Darrick Forrest have been placed on IR, so we segway back into the talent/ depth convo we have been having. 23:25- Josina Anderson tweeted out some thoughts today on the Commanders and potential staff changes under new owner Josh Harris. We discuss that here.
Nathan and Stoner talked about how the team is loaded with professional leaders who have a ton of respect for Ron Rivera and would be embarrassed if Ron was fired midseason. Special teams All Pro Safety Jeremy Reaves and 3rd year Safety Darrick Forrest are both headed to IR. The team is still evaluating their injuries and will determine the length of time for either of them at a later time. So who will take their place? The Commanders made a couple of roster moves and expect to see a few more through the week. Jon Allen is now the franchise leader in sacks as a Defensive Tackle but Allen did not want to talk about it amidst the loss to Chicago. All of that and much more on your 9 October Daily Commanders Update. Let's gooooooo!
We break down all of the things that have to go right for the Commanders to be successful. From Emmanuel Forbes' takeaways to Montez & Chase wreaking havoc on defense. Washington Commanders held their first training camp practice and quarterback Sam Howell was a bright spot while we saw a lot of interesting things from Jack Del Rio's defense. As the Commanders got set for training camp head coach Ron Rivera told us he feels like he can finally focus on football more than ever before now that the team has been sold. He also acknowledged that he has something to prove, as does his team. In the first practice of the preseason, we saw Howell hit running back Antonio Gibson on a wheel route for an early explosive play, and that was in fact the Play of the Day. Looking at the secondary trying to decode how the many talented secondary players will be used we got no closer to figuring it out. But we did see an exciting array of combinations featuring cornerbacks Kendall Fuller, Benjamin St-Juste, Emmanuel Forbes, and Quan Martin, and safeties Kamren Curl, Darrick Forrest, and Percy Butler. In our first 'Howell Watch' we dissect the quarterback's 62 percent completion practice. Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

In this Commanders mailbag episode, we dive into the reports that running back Kareem Hunt has been contacted by the Commanders and what it could mean. Then, is it possible we'll see the fullback return to usage in new assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's offense? The Washington Commanders have five players that will be most critical in determining how much success they experience in the 2023 NFL Season. Starting with safety Darrick Forrest, the Commanders have five players they need to step up all year long in order to maximize their ability to have success. Running back Brian Robinson Jr., defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, quarterback Sam Howell, and wide receiver Terry McLaurin join the list as well. As the time ticked down for the Bearcats first round game against Arizona in the Maui Invitational there was no better time for a special edition of the Danco Transmission Bearcat Bounce Podcast. Brent Young, Aaron Smith, Chad Brendel and Ryan Royer start by breaking down the football win against Temple and a quick look at Tulane on Friday before they were joined by a special guest. Washington Commanders safety and Bearcat legend Darrick Forrest joined the crew to talk about his time in the NFL before reminiscing on his time in Cincinnati. BBP favorite and Strength Coach aficionado Brady Collins then joined the group to chop it up with DFoe and Royer. After Forrest and Brady hopped out of the pod, the group discussed the state of the basketball team before Maui then dove head first into the BBP Mailbag. The group wasn't done. They then had Barstool Sport's Dana Beers on to discuss his commitment to the Bearcats Fandom. All of these and more this week on a wild edition of the BBP presented by BearcatJournal.com.

The Washington Commanders (5-5) went to Philadelphia to take on the then undefeated Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) on Monday Night Football at Lincoln Financial Field and won 32-21, nearly covering the Eagles 11.5 point spread. The offense, led by Taylor Heinicke, Terry McLaurin, and Brian Robinson Jr., delivered a masterclass in time of possession and how to sustain long drives against a great team. Robinson was fantastic in his ability to continuously get 3-4 yards, leading to 3rd and short. This allowed the playbook to open up for OC Scott Turner and the offense would consistently convert on 3rd down. This led to a fresher defense, as the Commanders held the ball for over 40 minutes in this contest. Darrick Forrest aka DFoe had an interception and fumble recovery, Jamin Davis recovered a fumble, and Casey Toohill would griddy into the endzone for 6 to end the game. JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler and Pete Hailey truly cannot believe that they're discussing a Washington win, but they are discussing a WASHINGTON WIN over the previously-undefeated Eagles in this installment of their beloved program. During their time together, the guys do it all, from praising Ron Rivera, Taylor Heinicke and the relentless rushing attack from Monday night to detailing how electric the locker room scene was to doling out game ball after game ball after game ball. Eventually, you'll also hear JP's one-on-one interviews with Brian Robinson Jr. and Darrick Forrest, who both contributed in major ways to the upset. Kevin and Thom started with the Eagles' performance last night and their ascension to the overwhelming favorite in the NFC East after just two weeks. JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler and Pete Hailey open this Washington Football Talk by reacting to the Jamin Davis comments that Jack Del Rio made Thursday. They were... rather harsh. From there, the hosts get re-excited about how stacked the Commanders' offense is looking before getting into their weekly preview segments for the Lions game. After the trio finishes up, they toss to JP's one-on-one with Darrick Forrest, Week 1's defensive star. In that chat, Forrest discusses how he learned from a tough 2021 and the true meaning behind his nickname. If you like podcasts where Mitch and Pete are very upset with JP for not inviting them out to a recent social outing and a new proprietary statistic is introduced, then this is the episode for you.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler and Pete Hailey were in Ashburn for the opening practice of Washington minicamp — and so was Chase Young. So, that's where the hosts begin, reacting to Young's return to the field. After that, they chat about how Antonio Gibson is looking as well as the team's running back depth overall. Next, there's some Curtis Samuel injury talk. Then, JP and Pete go back and forth on whether Adam Humphries is a roster lock or not, which is a segment that actually dragged on for quite a while (which won't shock regular listeners). To close, the guys identify the One Thing that stood out to them from Tuesday's action before tossing to Mitch and Pete's interview with rookie safety Darrick Forrest, who reveals the impact he's having on special teams in addition to defense and also gives his stamp of approval on the nickname JP's been pushing for. If you like podcasts where Pete is loud wrong on how to pronounce a certain word and JP comes clean on the day he skipped high school football practice, then this is the episode for you.
In Part 2 in their recap of the selections made by the Washington Football Team in the 2021 NFL Draft, HTTD's Rajan Nanavati and Pat Rice discuss the team's picks in Rounds 2 through 7, plus its lone undrafted free agent acquisition. Specifically, they talk(ed) about: Ron Rivera clearly building the WFT around his long-term vision (2:45), the undersized but highly-productive Jarett Patterson being a legit possibility to make the team (9:43), 7th round picks Shaka Toney and William Bradley-King potentially having a "Day 1" impact (24:28), the freakish athletic profile plus special teams awesomeness of safety Darrick Forrest (35:04), John Bates being a deep sleeper-type pick in the fourth round (40:52), third-round pick Dyami Brown making Washington's offense that much more potentially lethal (48:41), the boom-or-bust "project" pick that is cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (1:02:17), and why Samuel Cosmi was an excellent value pick being overlooked through mostly no fault of his own (1:12:42).
Besides Jamin Davis, we ask you which rookies will have the biggest impact of the 2021 rookie class for the WFT. Dyami Brown is a popular name as well as St. Juste and Darrick Forrest. Who is yours? Hint for your Double Play: Cicadas are coming, and they aren't pretty. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
