This week we had such an informative conversation with Dr. David Choi! Dr. Choi is a Specialty Clinical Pharmacist and the Associate Director of the IBD Center at UChicago. We talked to him about his role as part of the IBD care team and how he plays an important part in patient advocacy and in getting the patient the treatment they and their provider think is best. We discussed his research in pharmacist-initiated interventions and prior authorizations and in other insurance issues in patient care and what they learned from this work. We talked a lot about biologic medications and biosimilars and what patients should know about these options and about switching to one. We also discussed supplements and how your pharmacist can help you figure out what is safe for you to use or what might have medication interactions. Finally we talked to him about training new or more pharmacists to do specialty IBD care and about networking with other IBD Pharmacists through the IBD Pharmacist Network. This was such an interesting conversation and I think you'll learn as much as we did. So, in 2017, he began developing a proprietary deal sourcing platform, using a data-driven approach to sourcing and acquiring deals on a national level. So, in this episode, David will share where to get "clean" data and how to narrow it down to your target market. To successfully acquire deals, you need to keep the process simple and be consistent with your marketing strategies. David shares how to get in touch with those gold mine properties and sellers who are highly motivated to sell and follow up with them. What is his highest return on advertising dollars? Developing systems that can assist programmers or even generate programs independently could make programming more productive and accessible, yet so far incorporating innovations in AI has proven challenging. Recent large-scale language models have demonstrated an impressive ability to generate code, and are now able to complete simple programming tasks. However, these models still perform poorly when evaluated on more complex, unseen problems that require problem-solving skills beyond simply translating instructions into code. For example, competitive programming problems which require an understanding of algorithms and complex natural language remain extremely challenging. To address this gap, we introduce AlphaCode, a system for code generation that can create novel solutions to these problems that require deeper reasoning. Evaluated on recent programming competitions on the Codeforces platform, AlphaCode achieved on average a ranking of top 54.3% in programming competitions with more than 5,000 participants. We found that three key components were critical to achieve good and reliable performance: (1) an extensive and clean competitive programming dataset for training and evaluation, (2) large and efficient-to-sample transformer-based architectures, and (3) large-scale model sampling to explore the search space, followed by filtering based on program behavior to a small set of submissions. We sit down with David Choi to talk about Busta Rhymes, growing up in the Korean Church, and how he might owe it all to some guy's cranky wife. How much would you gamble on an idea? For David Choi, founder of Seoul Taco, the answer was everything. Just out of college and working three jobs, he took his whole bankroll and went to the East Coast hunting for a food truck. What followed is a success story that took him from truck, to restaurant, to restauranteur, and recently featured Busta Rhymes on a stage celebrating a decade of success. David joined us from his new home in Chicago to talk about those last 10 years, and Seoul Taco's growth from a novel concept in St. Louis' emerging food scene to a multi-state franchise that has captured the attention of food-lovers everywhere. He talked about growing slow and growing smart, but also the unshakeable support our city gives to those starting out in any industry, and how that allows those willing to risk it all the courage to do so.
