Faced with inflation and the high cost of living, customers just weren't having it.In order to counteract the bad publicity it was receiving, McDonald's rolled out a $5 meal deal which seemed to win over at least some customers and gave the stock a boost as Americans came back for the more affordable burgers.McDonald's Quarter Pounders linked to an E. coli crisisIn a year with more than 300 food recalls, none seemed as well publicized, or as lamented, as the McDonald's Quarter Pounder recall in October. The fast-food chain's stock price plummeted after it became the center of a full-on E. coli outbreak, linked to onions on its Quarter Pounders. McDonald's plans to reintroduce the Snack Wrap in 2025 after it was discontinued in 2016 due to operational issues. The Snack Wrap features crispy chicken, lettuce, cheese, and a creamy sauce in a tortilla and gained popularity since its launch in 2006. This announcement follows a recent E. coli outbreak connected to the Quarter Pounder, which led McDonald's to change suppliers and prioritize food safety measures. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has declared the outbreak over. Other fast-food chains, such as Burger King, have offered similar snack-sized wraps, prompting McDonald's to enhance its market stance. Franchisees prepare for high demand while McDonald's strives for operational efficiency to prevent past issues.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/ Hosted on Acast. McDonald's worked on October 24 to reassure customers that its U.S. restaurants are safe as federal investigators tried to pinpoint the cause of a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to the fast food giant's Quarter Pounder hamburgers. McDonald's pulled Quarter Pounders from one-fifth of its U.S. stores on October 23 as a result of the outbreak, which the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said had sickened at least 49 people in 10 states. One person died and 10 were hospitalized, according to the CDC. A preliminary investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration suggested fresh slivered onions that are served raw on Quarter Pounder hamburgers were a likely source of the contamination. McDonald's also serves raw, slivered onions on one of its breakfast sandwiches, but that sandwich isn't available at the impacted stores. Other burgers, like the Big Mac, use diced, cooked onions. McDonald's said it was searching for a new regional supplier of fresh onions. In the meantime, Quarter Pounders were removed from menus in Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, and portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Adriean Madden, 37, pulled up outside a McDonald's in Denver on October 24 for his usual afternoon snack but then decided against it. He said he was unsure how E. coli spreads or contaminates other foods, and he thinks McDonald's should be more forthcoming. “This affects my decision with coming to McDonald's in the future,” Madden said. “I feel like the information isn't as widely spread. I didn't see any notices on the door, and then I saw vehicles going through the drive-through just as if nothing was going on.” McDonald's said it had worked closely with federal food safety regulators in October when it was alerted to the potential outbreak. The company said the scope of the problem and the popularity of its products have complicated efforts to identify the contamination source. McDonald's has more than 14,000 U.S. stores and serves 1 million Quarter Pounders every two weeks in the affected 12-state area. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

From McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers to frozen waffles to deli meats, it seems like food recalls are all over the place. Ellen Ioanes, world and weekend reporter at Vox, reports on why this is happening, and what to know as a consumer.
Summary: On October 22, the CDC reported that an outbreak of E. coli infections was connected to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers, leading to recalls of their quarter pound beef patties and fresh slivered onions from supplier Taylor Farms in several states. This outbreak has spotlighted the importance of food safety for restaurants and food services companies and has reminded us of an interview from earlier this year with food safety expert, and CEO & Founder of PathSpot, Christine Schindler. This is a timely episode and, whether you caught it when it originally aired or are listening now for the first time, one you won't want to miss. In an industry booming with customer-focused innovations, it's crucial not to overlook the backbone of an enterprise. Today's guest created a groundbreaking technology that prioritizes health and safety for both customers and in-house staff and is a critical asset for hospitality businesses as a whole. We're sitting down with Christine Schindler, who is CEO and co-founder of PathSpot, a technology company dedicated to protecting businesses and their customers from the threat of food borne illnesses and outbreaks. An engineer and entrepreneur who is passionate about utilizing technology to overcome gaps in healthcare, Christine invented PathSpot's hand scanner in 2017, following a transformative educational trip to Mount Kilimanjaro. The scanner instantly detects carriers of harmful contamination commonly spread through poor handwashing. PathSpot has now broadened its safety suite to include a comprehensive range of back-of-the-house digital health and safety tools that track temperature, expiration, and more. Christine has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Global Health from Duke University. Prior to founding PathSpot, she assisted with biomedical research for Engineering World Health at Mount Kilimanjaro and spent two years on the innovation and M&A team at Cigna. In addition to PathSpot, Christine is Founder and CEO at Girls Engineering Change, a non-profit focused on increasing female representation in STEM. She was also featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2021 and Hospitality Technology's Top Women in Restaurant Technology in 2023. Today's Headlines: With Election Day approaching, early voting has surged to 44 million ballots cast. Federal authorities are investigating ballot box fires in Oregon and Washington—both affecting tight races. The FBI and DHS have also issued warnings about possible election disruptions from domestic actors. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos reportedly stopped a Washington Post endorsement of Kamala Harris, potentially to protect Blue Origin contracts, leading to a subscriber loss of 200,000. Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner has sued Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC for an alleged unlawful lottery targeting swing-state voters. Lastly, McDonald's has resumed selling quarter-pounders after an E. coli outbreak was traced to raw onions from a supplier, not the chain itself. Het Duitse sportmerk zette even 200 nieuwe winkels neer in China. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

McDonald's pulled Quarter Pounders from one-fifth of its U.S. stores Tuesday as a result of a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to the fast-food giant's hamburgers. ABC's Jim Ryan joins the show this morning to tell us how, according to the CDC, at least 49 people in 10 states have become sick and one person has even died as a result. Reports say that a preliminary investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has suggested fresh slivered onions, served raw on Quarter Pounder hamburgers, were a likely source of the contamination.
AURN News) — Federal health officials are investigating a multi-state E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders that has sickened 49 people, hospitalized 10, and resulted in one death, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Wednesday. The outbreak, first identified on October 22, has prompted McDonald's to temporarily halt the use of slivered onions and quarter-pound beef patties at restaurants across multiple states while investigators work to identify the specific contaminated ingredient. According to the CDC, the restaurant chain has removed these ingredients from locations in Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, and portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. The majority of illnesses have been reported in Colorado and Nebraska. The CDC also reports that most affected individuals fell ill after consuming Quarter Pounder hamburgers, though investigators have not yet determined which specific ingredient is responsible for the contamination. "McDonald's is collaborating with investigation partners to determine what food ingredient in Quarter Pounders is making people sick," the CDC said. CDC officials advise seeking medical attention for severe E. coli symptoms, including diarrhea, fever above 102 degrees, vomiting, and signs of dehydration. E. coli symptoms typically appear three to four days after exposure, with most people recovering without treatment within five to seven days. Learn more about your ad choices.
