Send us a textJUROR #2 It's late-December and, foregoing our usual Christmas-adjacent movie watch, this year TGTPTU has a very special treat for the holidays. That's right, listener, we bring to you our hot takes on what may prove to be Clint Eastwood's final film--and even more likely his final theatrically-released film--JUROR #2 (2024) in time for its MAX streaming release so that you might celebrate with us and have yourself a very Merry Clint-mas. Eastwood's latest film with Warner Brothers continues what was a trend (excepting Cry Macho and The Mule) of not starring the star of the 70's ape comedies and the Dirty Harry series, instead keeping Eastwood off camera and bringing in a murderer's row (some pun intended) of character actors, including Nicholas Hoult from multiple Bryan Singer flicks as the titular Juror #2; Toni Collette from The Sixth Sense as Assistant DA Faith Killebrew who may put her career on the line to explore whether the person she put away for murder is guilty; J.K. Simmons from Postal (and likely some other films) as a former detective on the jury who also has suspicions of innocence; Cedric Yarbrough from Reno 911! as juror out for justice; Kiefer Sutherland from multiple Joel Schumacher flicks as Juror #2's AA sponsor and lawyer confidant; and even one of Eastwood's many children--Francesca Eastwood--giving the double bird in multiple, retold scenes Rashomon-style playing the once-and-future corpse.  From The Mule & Richard Jewell, cinematographer Yves Bélanger is back with Mark Mancina returning from Cry Macho for the score. And surprisingly and, as discussed, perhaps as a first for Eastwood as a director, the man who addressed an empty chair at the RNC and practices TM actually worked with the film's writer to GASP! rewrite the script, an act host Ken who has seen and reported back on every Eastwood film takes to mean Juror #2 is the 94-year-old director's swan song.   And the song is good! While the hosts conflict on where the movie lands politically in its cynicism and realism, all four of the folx talking in your earholes believe the moving picture a solid mid-budget thriller that harkens back to a time/era of pre-streaming moviegoing. Speaking of an era ending, Warner Brothers appears to believe the Time of Eastwood is done, releasing this latest film from the long-time collaborator in under 50 theaters seven scheduled weeks before releasing it for streaming on MAX.   So get your spoilers here, and listen to the end of the p for what starts as a rant against WB's treatment of Eastwood and becomes men complaining about previews and ads before films that eventually ends with the four hosts recapping their 2024 movie-going experiences before awarding their best films of the year. Also fun: Evidence is presented throughout by hosts Ken and Thomas for whether provisional cohost Ryan should be promoted to a full-time host. Congrats, newly fully-fledged host Ryan. Don't rush to mess this up. We're covering the Disney seafaring animated classic(?) Moana, its themes of ancestry, forgiveness, and restorative justice, where it ranks among other classics when it comes to songs, sidekicks, and more, and discovering that we, too, are Moana.   Moana (also known as Vaiana or Oceania in some markets) is a 2016 American computer-animated musical fantasy action-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 56th Disney animated feature film, it was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, co-directed by Chris Williams and Don Hall, and produced by Osnat Shurer, from a screenplay written by Jared Bush, and a story by Clements, Musker, Williams, Hall, Pamela Ribon, and the writing team of Aaron and Jordan Kandell. The film introduces Auliʻi Cravalho as the voice of Moana and also features the ensemble voices of Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. It features original songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina, and an orchestral score also composed by Mancina. Set in ancient Polynesia, the film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a chief of a coastal village, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with the goddess Te Fiti. When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of returning the relic to Te Fiti and saving her people. The plot is original, but takes inspiration from Polynesian myths.

It's a film that takes several well-worn, sometimes quaint, and seemingly disparate cinematic tropes and combines them into a transcendent and irreplicable experience. We discuss the rise and fall of filmmaker Jan de Bont, from his time as one of Paul Verhoeven and John McTiernan's key collaborators, to his work on back-to-back 90s action hits (this film and 1994's 'Speed'), to his gun-for-hire status for the 2003 'Tomb Raider' sequel that stands as his last film as director to date. Then, we talk about the film's host of influences, most notably its screwball comedy premise wrapped in a disaster movie's skin. Finally, we discuss the movie's groundbreaking special effects and champion the film as a state-of-the-art blockbuster spectacle.Follow Jackson on Twitter. CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVORITE PODCATCHER CONTENT WARNING: Discussion of terrorism, explosions, murder, bombs, bomb threats, car crashes, gunfire, police, death. By all logistical rights, this movie shouldn't exist, let alone be a massive hit. The director used a highway in construction to set up massive special effects sequences that quite often had to be done multiple times and reset in different locations to match continuity. And all of this is because the movie is about a bus. A bus that has to go faster than 50 miles per hour. Somehow, some way, Jan de Bont mustered up all of his filmmaking experience to come out swinging with a debut feature that redefined the action genre. And it doesn't hurt that a slow-burn action star and a breakthrough comedic actress had some of the best chemistry we've ever seen, and they're alongside Dennis Freaking Hopper. This is one of those movies that really makes you think of that term “movie magic.” Hold the remote real tight and don't drop it as we discuss Speed this week on Macintosh & Maud Haven't Seen What?! It's not too often you get a movie that stars two of the most outstanding and strong actors of a generation that is just plain boring. But this week's film is more than up to the task, with a political thriller that isn't very political and is absolutely not thrilling. To be fair, most political cover-up stories fall apart before the conclusion, but this movie ups the ante by ruining the plot within the first 10 or 15 minutes. The remaining two plus hours is spent just rehashing plot points and trying to save a script that was dead on arrival. It's not that this movie's bad, or badly made - it's so utterly meh that it'll bore you to tears. Lorne was a guest on Film.Music.Media for the first time 11 years ago, and he was the very first All Access video interview over 7 years ago. We've had many great conversations over the past decade, so it's a true pleasure to have Lorne back for a new All Access. For this conversation we discuss what has changed in the entertainment industry over the past decade, and what it means for younger people starting their careers now versus back then. We also discuss how integral music editors are on films and television, and why Lorne wholly believes that every aspect of filmmaking is a team effort including scoring. We dive into Top Gun: Maverick and how Lorne worked with Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer on the music for the film. He shares how they had to adapt during the pandemic, and the key to making a team effort be cohesive to serve the story. Lorne also talks about how much of a fan he was of 90's action films especially those from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. We talk about our shared love for 90's action, and how Lorne is now working with people like Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer on different projects. We also talk about Lorne's scores to Bad Boys For Life, and how he made sure Mark Mancina's theme was front and center. Lorne also talks about working on Michael Bay's Ambulance. As always, it's a pleasure to have Mr. Balfe as a guest and this conversation is a fantastic insight and reflection on some of his current projects. Our Very Special Guests on Part II of The TJS Radio Interview with the Filmmakers of Miss Lillian" More Than A Presidents Mother with Director Vivian Winther + Composer John Van Tongeren and with Steven Ullman | Producer + Carol Swarbrick | Actor/Co-Writer + Jim Dries | Co-Writer. - - - About The Film: At 97 Jimmy Carter is the oldest living former US president. He only served a single term, but his dedication to humanitarian efforts and down-to-earth personality have made him a favorite amongst progressives. Documentarian Vivian Winther examines the woman who helped shape him in Miss Lillian: More Than A President's Mother. Lillian Carter was born in 1898 to a humble family in Southwestern Georgia. Her father ignored the segregationist norms of the time, preferring a hard work ethic over the color of someone's skin. A passion for helping people drove her to nursing school, after which she became a successful local nurse who treated the local African American community equally alongside her white patients. Lillian Carter later dedicated her life to social activism and served in the Peace Corps, where she treated lepers in India. When her oldest son was elected president, Lillian Carter became popular with reporters and Johnny Carson for her blend of Southern Hospitality and directness. She never hesitated to tell it like it was or put people in their place when they got out of line. Carter loved baseball, especially the Dodgers, and she became friendly with their manager Tommy Lasorda. - - - About The Filmamakers: Vivian Winther (Director) is a multifaceted creative producer, director, and writer. She was born in Toronto, Canada but has resided in the Unit- ed States for 30 years. Her career spans thirty years and three continents. Vivian started in front of the camera in the '80s as a top print model. Her work took her to Europe, Tokyo, and the United States. However, it is the behind-the-scenes aspects of film that has a much stronger pull for her. Initially, this translated to script development with a passion for develop- ing unknown writers. In order to realize these projects, Vivian began producing and started Harvest Table Pictures. She wound up in the documentary film world. Her premiere feature documentary is Miss Lillian: More Than A President's Mother, for which she won the award for Best Director of a Feature Length Documentary at The Seattle Film Festival. Her next project again teamed with producer Steven Ullman, is IMPERFECT, an empowering film about women's self-love as well as a cautionary tale about the side effects of breast implantation. The film is currently in post-production. She also has another project in post-production about photo-journalist Lisl Steiner called LislBaby. - - - John Van Tongeren (Composer) won the 2019 Emmy Award for Music Composition for his work on The Tom and Jerry Show for Warner Brothers Animation. He also won the Gemini Award (Canada's version of the Emmy Award) for Music Composition in both 2000 and 2001 for his work on The Outer Limits for MGM, which he worked on for seven seasons. He composed the scores for the films Swindle, Suite Life Movie, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Miss Congeniality 2, Malibu's Most Wanted, The Cheetah Girls, and Twitches 1 & 2. Other television series include The 4400, Poltergeist The Legacy, Thief, and Wanted. John was one of the original three members of Media Ventures, along with Hans Zimmer and Mark Mancina. Claudia Elvidge, creator of The Beacon, joins us this week for a discussion of a film renowned for its bonkers quotient. You know, that point where an objectively not great movie suddenly becomes awesome just by the sheer force of will of its cast and crew. This movie is one of the best examples of that phenomenon, bursting with incredibly talented actors across the board being asked to say and do ridiculous things. I mean, your three leads for this film are Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, and John Malkovich, all playing very against type at this point, and all going for broke even though the roles may or may not be right for them. There’s a very, very weird alchemy going on in this movie: its premise is enough to render the entire movie unbelievable, it’s got terrible dialogue and pretty big plotholes, and the director is all over the map on how he’s filming things. But it oddly works - it might be garbage, but it’s really, really fun garbage. We’re watching Con Air on Macintosh & Maud Haven’t Seen What?! http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John and Grant as they venture to Disney's Animal Kingdom to watch the nighttime spectacular, Rivers of Light! Recorded on October 2, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode takes us to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World to experience the park’s nighttime spectacular Rivers of Light.  The guide map describes this show by saying, “Surrender to the beauty and harmony of all living things during this music-filled spectacle of water, light and legend.  This is an all ages attractions and FastPass+ is offered. Now before we hear the show, here are five fast facts about Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. 1.  First announced in October of 2013, Rivers of Light officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on February 17, 2017.  It had been originally planned to open on April 22, 2016, but technical difficulties prevented it from doing so. 2.  The 15 minute long show is unique in that it is a Disney Park spectacular that features no fireworks.  The reason for this is because the fireworks would scare the animals that call the park home. 3. The animals that called DIsney’s Animal Kingdom home got a sneak preview of Rivers of Light before anyone else.  For months before the show opened, the soundtrack of the show along with prerecorded audience noise was played as the park’s animals were bedding down for the night so they could get used to the new sounds in their environment. 4.  The music for Rivers of Light was composed by the team of Don Harper, Mark Mancina and Dave Metzger with lyrics by Miriam Stockley who also performs some of the chants during the show.   5. The show's unique animal barges that float around the lagoon on Discovery River do not have drivers aboard as they are remotely controlled. Now it’s time for us to experience, Rivers of Light.  Joining me for the show is John B. deHaas and after the show we’ll give you our thoughts on this attractions.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.   The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron.  Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia Episode edited by Stephen Staver FOLLOW US http://www.facebook.com/attractionchecklist  http://www.facebook.com/saturdaymorningmedia  http://www.twitter.com/SaturdayMMedia  https://plus.google.com/+Saturdaymorningmedia  https://www.linkedin.com/company/saturday-morning-media http://www.youtube.com/user/SaturdayMorningMedia?sub_confirmation=1 FOLLOW GRANT http://www.MrGrant.comhttp://www.twitter.com/toasterboy  https://instagram.com/throwingtoasters/ WALT DISNEY WORLD WEBSITEhttps://disneyworld.disney.go.com/entertainment/animal-kingdom/rivers-of-light/ WIKIPEDIAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_of_Light ORLANDO SENTINEL https://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/theme-park-rangers-blog/os-et-disney-rivers-light-first-look-20170213-story.html Show ©2019 Saturday Morning Media/Grant Baciocco

Every year, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO presents a year-end countdown of the best new film, TV and video game scores written that year. Therefore, it was difficult for me to compile and present a definite… or at least an educated best of 1996 list at the time. Skip ahead 20 years, I have now own an enormous collection of 1996 released and I think now is the time to right a wrong as I present for you, for the very first time on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, my top 10 scores of 1996. This week on The HMC's Now Playing Reviews, MOANA, the latest animated film from Disney Pixar studios, is set in Ancient Polynesia where a young girl, Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) embarks on a great quest to return a stone, The Heart of the Ocean, to its rightful owner restoring life to the island where her people live. Aiding her on her quest, Maui (Dwayne Johnson), a demo-God who thrust them into this fine mess by stealing The Heart of the Ocean, must recover his mystical hook to regain his shape shifting powers and redeem himself. The cast is rounded out by some veteran New Zealand actors including Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and the amazing Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Gramma Tala. Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) co-wrote the original songs along with Opetaia Foa'i, original score and songs by Mark Mancina. Despite the films stunning visuals and many fun moments (Look for Jemaine as a giant singing crab), the story itself has a dragging second act and too many unexplained anecdotes--Most notably; when Moana and Maui are attacked by a giant ship filled with coconut pirates who also want to recover The Heart of the Ocean in Moana's possession. It's one of the coolest sequences in the film from a visual perspective, but completely out of left field and these coconut pirates, though super fun, are never given an origin story or explanation as to why they too our pursuing the stone. Though it may not secure its position in the Pixar hall of fame, by our measure, MOANA is fun and entertaining and visually fantastic. And bonus! The Rock sings, can this guy do literally everything??? Justice for MOANA, it gets a 8.3/10 on the Justice & Doom Movie Meter 8.3/10
