Thomas Lacey was born on November 4, 1895, in Glossop, Derbyshire, England. His journey into the spiritual world began early in life, leading to a lifetime of mediumship. On March 18, 1918, he married Edith Emma Lomas in Whitfield. Edith, born on September 28, 1895, was not a medium herself, but she played a vital role in supporting Thomas's work.  In the early 1920s, the Laceys made a significant move to Canada—settling in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. It was here in 1924 that Thomas began conducting séances, with Edith actively participating.  Throughout the 1960s, Thomas and Edith held séances in the home of Otto and Nelda Smith in Kitchener with attendees reporting experiencing apports, materialisations, automatic writing, and even Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP).  My Special Guest Is Dr. Nick Richbell Dr. Nick Richbell recently received his PhD in History from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. His area of research is the history of Spiritualism, and his doctoral dissertation is a biographical history about the medium Maurice Barbanell and his guide, Silver Birch. The teachings of Silver Birch are still talked about in Spiritualist churches today, however, Maurice Barbanell's name is rarely mentioned. Nick has long believed that there is more to life than an earthly existence. However, it was not until he started work as the Head of Special Collections and Archives at the University of Waterloo Library that he started to further consider the afterlife. The archives had two séance related collections. The Maines-Pincock Family collection holds records of seances conducted by the American medium William Cartheuser in the private home of Jenny O'Hara Pincock in St. Catharines, Ontario. Another collection, the Thomas Lacey Lecture collection contains over 400 lectures given by Lacey while in trance. Nick was able to bring in a new Lacey collection during his tenure at Waterloo: the Thomas Lacey séance collection: over 100 reel-to-reel tapes from the 1960s of recordings of seances conducted by Lacey in a Kitchener, Ontario home. He is often invited to give talks about his research about this magnificent collection. Nick was the research associate on the audio-documentary, The Ghost of Thomas Lacey, produced by Anthroscope Media. Originally from London, England, Nick is currently the Head of Special Collections and Archives at Clemson University in South Carolina. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Nick oversaw the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. He also managed the archives of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal and worked at the McGill University Archives as well as the McGill University Health Centre. Becker in 2014, about the frightening, real-life experiences that he and his family suffered through in the early 1970s in their home in Chicago. Those experiences led to NBC's Carole Simpson filming the first televised exorcism in their home in 1971. Edwin's book, True Haunting, originated as just a journal to document it all. The accounts of the activity are just amazing, and as Patrick said in his review for the book over 10 years ago, it reads like amazing fiction… except it's not. In 2012, the Paranormal Witness series featured the Becker family in an episode titled, The Tenants, and Patrick highly recommends that you check that out, if you can. The 2-part interview for the Big Seance that we're revisiting today, was one of the first interviews Patrick had that he felt was really big, he was super proud of it, and Edwin later reached out to him to tell him that to that date it was perhaps the best interview he'd ever been a part of. :50 Sadly, Edwin died about a year ago in November of 2022. But to Patrick's surprise, today he discovered that there was a major motion picture in post-production, called The Haunting in Wicker Park, directed by Gary Fleder, and starring Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Henry Creel and Vecna in the fourth season of the Netflix series, Stranger Things. iMDb says it was supposed to be released in 2023, but 2024 is just around the corner and there are no trailers yet. There are, however, some behind-the-scenes production photos. Edwin was aware and knew about the upcoming film, because he excitedly announced it in one of his last social media posts. Becker's bio. 11:06 Background on Edwin's book, True Haunting. 12:41 Edwin takes us back to 1970 and a story that begins with the purchase of an old two-story building, a home made up of two apartments, each on its own floor. 14:08 “Eddie, I'm never coming down here.” Edwin brought his wife, Marsha, in to see the new home and the basement. He hoped that she would see that they could fix it up and make it into a home. She was not a fan of the basement. 21:03 Nasty fighting among the family of the deceased former owner, and a deal to keep Myra, a scary old remaining tenant for 120 days. 24:00 “We started having anomalies immediately. I believe spirits are intelligent. I don't know if they can look into your soul and see everything you've ever done, like a demon can, but I know that they can sense what you're going to do and read your mind. I learned that while we lived there, because they could anticipate my actions whenever I tried to record them on a tape recorder.” 26:49 It all started with Marsha and the phone. 27:14 Edwin finally understands that there is a problem in the home, and he calls in a priest for a house blessing. Vicki Talbott is a retired U.S. college professor, administrator, and a medium with a lifelong interest in afterlife studies. Featuring a collaboration of experienced EVP researchers, skeptics, mainstream scientists, and families seeking contact with departed loved ones, the series will document a landmark effort to solve one of the greatest mysteries of all time.The Kickstarter project is wildly ambitious at $500k and only 40 days long, but "there are a lot of people out there who are fascinated by this subject. Alex Halsted is a fish. Specifically, the Gnathonemus Petersii is an Elephantnose fish native to the Niger River in West and Central Africa. The fish has very poor eyesight and emits a weak electrical field from electro receptors covering its body. These receptors allow the fish to send a sonar-like electric pulse similar to the bats use of echolocation. On 24 September 2009, David More, a sound artist who creates sound works by harnessing variations from the fishs electric field, and I, executed experiments using the frequencies created by the fish as white noise to record for Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and additional energy provided by Heidi Harman using Reiki. The EVPs captured were not only very strong, but they seem to also refer to the fish, to David and also in some cases seem to refer to itself as the fish. Is it possible that disincarnate entities taping into available frequencies to communicate also pick up personality or other energies that define the identity of the being its taping into? Included in this adaptation is a previously unreleased composition created using the frequencies of the fish as well as the EVPs captured and separately, the EVPs captured during those trials.
