P&C drink and review Purple Monkey Dishwasher, by Evil Genius Beer Company, and then discuss the dread math of human life. We like to say that every life is infinitely valuable, but do we mean it? Are we willing to eat better to extend our lives one year? Are we willing to reduce the national speed limit to 20 mph to save highway deaths? Should we all wear helmets all the time? There's clearly a math to life. We're willing to spend a certain amount to save a life, but there are limits.

Upon its release, I examined the underlying issues behind Solo: A Star Wars Story becoming box office bantha fodder. I will not rehash that all here. Suffice to say, though, it was a financial failure and not just a small one. Solo, for all the power and hype of the Disney machine, couldn't even break $400 million worldwide. For a film not tethered to a storied franchise like Star Wars, that wouldn't be too bad. But Solo is, and somehow, it grossed less than any of the original trilogy. Those films, for perspective, came out in 1977, 1980, and 1983. A lot has changed in the dynamics of the box office since then, not to mention the inflation of the dollar, so these numbers are more than just troubling. Not only was Solo meant to launch a series of films, chronicling the adventures of a young Han, it was meant to demonstrate the power of the brand. It did neither Its grand aspirations were nothing more than delusions; it fell flat. Yet it shouldn't have. It's a fun, smaller scale Star Wars adventure. Sure it may answer some questions we probably never needed answers to, but it also introduces us to Han outside of the main narrative. We get to see he and Lando (played by Donald Glover, who steals the show) match wits; we come to understand why he shot first (and, yes, he did shoot first, Harrison); and we even get a mind blowing reintroduction to a beloved character from the series' lore. Certainly it did not reinvent the wheel, but it did do the character justice. Alden Ehrenreich, who was also fantastic, and the rest of the actors deserved better. Even if you may not have wanted his backstory, or even cared to see it, there was enough good in it to warrant its existence. And, hey, it's free to stream now, so sit back, deal a hand of Sabaac, and sip on a Han Shot First Double IPA from Evil Genius Beer Company. About a decade ago, Trevor Hayward and Luke Bowen decided to start a business. With Luke Bowen, Trevor Hayward, Garrett Williams & Kevin Keller at The Lab at Evil Genius Beer Company Way back in July of 2013, Luke and Trevor journeyed to the Beer Busters Podcast Basement to join us for Episode 7 of our then fledgling podcast. The founders and owners of Evil Genius Beer Company were our first “real” beer industry guests. They, and many others from Evil Genius, have appeared on the podcast several times – but Evil Genius never had their own location…until now. We’ve finally had the honor of recording a podcast at The Lab, the tasting room at the newly opened Evil Genius Brewery in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. As wells as catching up with Evil Genius, in this episode we discussed at length the AB-InBev acquisition of Wicked Weed, played Years of Beers in Happy Fun Times, and Rich took over Know Your Beers again to talk about beer “muling”. And we drank, obviously.

With Trevor Hayward and Luke Bowen from Evil Genius The Evil Genuises return once again to the Beer Busters Podcast Basement and the usual debauchery ensues. Luke and Trevor got us up to speed on the latest developments at Evil Genius Beer Company, including some new recruits. News included some craft alternatives for certain macro brews, some tasting notes on 170 year old beer and a discussion on a recent change to PA distribution laws. Steph continued giving us some sage advice on hangovers in Know Your Beers, we played What’s in My Glass? in Happy Fun Time and sampled two new Evil Genius offerings as well as a slew of other brews the gents were kind enough to bring along.
