Peter O'Brien is an artist, a visionary, and a life-long Joycean, with the energy to not only dream up one major Finnegans Wake-centric artistic offshoot, but is busy scheming about how to top it. We first became aware of Peter as a brilliant artist, using “letterism” to artistically annotate the pages of Finnegans Wake. Exhibited around the world and widely published, most would be satisfied with that: but not Peter, who is now pouring his unmatched attention into a new opera despite (by his own admission) knowing little about music. Join us on this fascinatingly palimpsestuous discussion that touches on the nature of genius, memorisation, Glenn Gould, Virgil, nudity, and Wagner, and shows us that you may think you can be finished with the Wake, but it's never really finished with you. An exhibition of items to prevent workers from suffering heatstroke on the job, such as protective clothing that lets air through, opened in Tokyo on Wednesday for a three-day run.
NCMT is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In 1964, it was one of the first companies to sell CNC machine tools into the UK and Irish markets when it won the sole agency to sell and service Makino machining centres. Twelve years later, a second agreement was reached with Okuma, another Japanese manufacturer. In 2005, Makino-NCMT Grinding Division was established to develop and sell throughout Europe Makino machining platforms for creep-feed VIPER grinding of nickel alloys. Since 2015, NCMT has also been the Europe-wide agent for photo-activated adhesive workholding systems manufactured by Blue Photon in the US. NCMT has now signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Tritone Technologies, an additive manufacturing (AM) technology specialist in metal and ceramic applications. Typical AM parts will be available with representation on Stand 130 in Hall 19. Rigid, thermally stable construction protects the Okuma Genos M560-V-e VMC from deformation, resulting in high machining performance for an entry-level machine. At the show, the 3-axis machine will be equipped with a Cellro X20 robotic. The M560-V-e has a 1,050 by 560 by 460mm working envelope and a maximum table load of 900kg. The 15,000rpm BT40 spindle moves in the X and Z axes, with the table moving in Y. A 32-position tool magazine is provided. Software can be added, including Machining Navi to minimise chatter by finding the best cutting conditions. It employs a microphone to detect the onset of vibration and feeds information back to the control. The popular Genos M460-5AX VMC will also be at MACH and will be one of the first Okuma machines to be exhibited in the UK with the manufacturer's new OSP 500 control. It was the original 5-axis machine in Okuma's economical, series-built Genos range. The trunnion with a rotary table and 5-axis simultaneous control gives the machine the ability to produce highly complex components. The BT40 spindle is rated at 15,000rpm 22kW, which is served from a 48-position tool magazine. Features such as Okuma's 5-axis auto-tuning system that accurately fine-tunes the geometry of the machine for ultra-high precision, and Okuma's Absoscale linear encoders in the X, Y and Z axes, are all part of the standard specification. The competitively priced Genos L3000-e-MYW lathe from Okuma will be at MACH, fed automatically with shaft-type parts by a Cellro CoMate cobot. Maximum turning diameter is 300mm and the rotational speed of the 22kW spindle is up to 3,800rpm, all in a compact footprint of 2.5 by 1.9m. The turning centre has a sub-spindle and a 12-station turret with Y-axis and live tooling. With a 240-degree swivelling B-axis head and HSK-A63 (optionally Capto C6), 12,000rpm 22kW spindle for turning or milling components up to 1,500mm between centres, an Okuma MULTUS U3000 multi-tasking lathe will be demonstrated on the stand. The tool magazine has 40 stations as standard but is optionally available with a capacity of 80 tools. The machine is fitted with Okuma's linear scales for high-accuracy positional feedback. Servo motors deliver feed rates of up to 50m/min in the X and Z axes, 40m/min in the 250mm Y-axis. Together with the C-axis on the main spindle, the machine is capable of fully interpolative, 5-axis (X, Y, Z, B, C) machining of freeform surfaces. Next-generation Okuma control The OSP-P500 CNC system, manufactured in-house by Okuma along with virtually everything else on its machines, will be on show for the first time in the UK. It combines highly productive and precise machining with ease of use, energy efficiency and safety features to protect against cyber-attacks. Particularly well suited to high-speed machining applications and achieving top-quality surface finishes, the CNC has twice the computing power of conventional machine control, shortening cycle times by up to 15%. An on-machine Digital Twin facilitates high-precision simulation of machining processes, reducing set-up times and speeding production. By performing these simulations on the machine itself, production can start immediately afterwards. Ultra-fast 5-axis In a space on the shop floor of less than 3.3sq/m, the N2-5XA horizontal machining centre from Makino is capable of very high-speed machining of components up to 300mm diameter by 270mm high and weighing a maximum of 30kg, including fixtures. The machine is ideal for fully interpolative, 5-axis machining of complex components. Within its working volume of 300 by 300 by 230mm, the horizontal spindle design ensures that gravity assists swarf removal, prolonging tool life by avoiding the recutting of chips that are frequently harder than the parent material. The show will also mark the first UK appearance of the Makino DA300 5-axis, trunnion-type, VMC configured as a production cell with 40 pallet positions on five levels for extended periods of lights-out running. Maximum workpiece size is 360mm diameter by 300mm tall for the eight positions on the top row of the store and 280mm tall on all other levels. Maximum payload per position is 60kg. The automation package includes an integrated chuck, pallet interface and Single Pro6 graphically-driven cell controller, via which it is easy to manage the machine and pallet system. Makino's U6 H.E.A.T. Extreme wire-cut EDM centre will be on show. In addition to using standard wire from 0.1 to 0.3mm, it is optionally possible to run the largest diameter wire of any machine on the market at 0.4mm. The wire is coated and distinct from the uncoated brass wire that is commonly used in industry. Part of Makino's popular U-Series wire EDM machine platform, the U6 H.E.A.T. Extreme uses Bedra copper core wire with a double-layer coating having controlled zinc donation. It has been optimised for use with Makino's generator and is exclusive to the new machine, promoting fast cutting at a reduced wire speed, leading to lower manufacturing costs. Areas of application include aerospace and medical component machining, separating additively manufactured parts, machining tall moulds and dies and tackling tough nickel alloys. The Makino EDAF3 die-sinking EDM machine on the stand features a rigid, precise structure and integral thermal cooling of the Y- and Z-axis cast components to ensure long-term accuracy. Table size is 700 by 500mm and the dielectric reservoir is built into the base casting of the machine to improve stability and minimise the footprint. The machine uses Makino's latest Hyper-i control, which can be factory-ordered mounted on either the left or right, facilitating easy integration of one or more machines with a variety of commercially available electrode and work pallet handling robots. Exhibited on the stand will be the Blue Photon photo-activated adhesive system. The method is ideal for securing awkwardly shaped parts to allow maximum access to tools for tight-tolerance machining or inspection. The process involves applying an adhesive that is cured by ultraviolet light via an LED spot-curing system. After machining is complete, the adhesive contact points can be sheared to free the workpiece by rotating the gripper pins in the fixture plate with a spanner. The residual adhesive can subsequently be removed by the application of hot water.

Schindler is a name most everyone knows, for different reasons – and for different Schindlers. There's Schindler the elevator and escalator company, founded in 1874. There's German industrialist Oscar Schindler, hero of the 1993 movie Schindler's List, who saved more than a thousand refugees from the Nazis. Then there's Austrian Rudolf Schindler, the architect, who initially worked for Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1920 Wright sent Schindler west to Los Angeles. Schindler started moonlighting in 1922, which Wright hated, and eventually Schindler quit to became a huge success on his own. He and wife Pauline hosted many events at their Kings Road house, a model of architectural brilliance that's now 100 years old. LA photographer Mona Kuhn got her first camera at 12 and she studied at Ohio State and the San Francisco Art Institute. Exhibited internationally, she has published several books of photography, her most recent entitled Kings Road, featuring Rudolf Schindler's Kings Road House. Later, we found out that USModernist's own Michela O'Connor-Abrams lived there as a child - and witnessed a secret late night burglary. Later, profound cello with musical guest Helen Gillet.
Playing dead. Colloquial term for a universal phenomena. Exhibited by vertebrates and invertebrates alike. Seen on land, sea, and air. Practiced by birds, fish, snakes, possums, frogs, ants, spiders, ducks, rabbits, chickens, sharks, and even humans. Tonight, our study a specific strain of human – engineered sometime after WWII and manufactured on an industrial scale. Yes, tonight we are about to witness the modern suburbanite's version of playing dead.
After a quick review of fresh content they have seen over the summer, Andy and Sam talk about recent movie-related exhibitions they have seen: the brand-new Oscar Academy Museum in Los Angeles and the Fellini exhibition at Zurich's Kunsthaus. From these impressions, they discuss what makes an inspiring and worthwhile movie museum and what criteria should be behind the selection and presentation of such exhibits. Besides their favourite movie displays, they also ask whether cinema is increasingly becoming a thing to be shown at museums and if that is necessarily a good or bad omen for movie-making as a whole. Join us to find out!
"For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." James 1:3 While exhibiting this virtue, remember that patience is not synonymous with suffering in silence or loneliness. Therefore, don't take the concept of patience as an excuse to keep quiet when you are hurt or experiencing pain in life or relationships. In fact, being patient often requires active participation and engagement. Patience is the ability to withstand difficult circumstances without losing one's composure or becoming frustrated. It is about remaining calm and level-headed even when things are not going as planned. Likewise, don't take the idea of patience as an excuse for doing nothing and just waiting for things to happen. Doing nothing is laziness that will only lead to frustration and unhappiness. Laziness and patience are two different things. Laziness is a tool in the devil's workshop that allows us to procrastinate and delay action. Patience is a tool in God's workshop that will enable us to go through the process of destiny in a planned and beneficial rather than destructive way. 2 Chronicles 15:7 says, "But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded." Being patient means no shortcuts. Of course, it is not easy to be patient when everything seems like all hell is breaking loose. But if you have patience with God, you can get through the tough times. Your patience in that business, career, ministry, and relationship can give you a chance to achieve anything, even the greatest. That is why Psalm 37:8 says, "Refrain from anger and abandon wrath; do not fret–it can only bring harm." Impatience will always be filled with pain and suffering. So next time you find yourself in a challenging situation, remember that displaying patience is not a sign of weakness but rather a strength. For one, it can help prevent us from making impulsive decisions that we may later regret. It also allows us to manage our stress levels better and maintain our mental and emotional well-being. Finally, patience enables us to build stronger relationships with others by demonstrating our capacity to understand and empathize with their situation. Amen. Psalm 37:7 says, "Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes." Amen. Prayer: Psalm 40:1: Oh Lord, hear me when I call upon thee and give me the strength to wait on your promises. Joshua 5:9: My Father, let every shame and reproach of marriage problem, business failure, marital stagnation, ministry lapse, or other misfortune be rolled away now in the name of Jesus. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-divineo/support
Over100 rare exhibits have taken space at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney as part of the Charkha and Kargha Indian Textiles Exhibition. SBS Hindi speaks to the Consul General of India in Sydney, Mr Manish Gupta and textile artisans about the curated exhibition that coincides with the 75th anniversary of India's independence.
"And endurance produces character, and character produces hope." Romans 5:4 Patience is vital to any journey of success. It allows for careful and informed decision-making, a sense of accomplishment, and the ability to be persistent and stay the course even when things get tough. Cutting corners is never an option if you want to achieve lasting success – it's simply not worth it in the long run. Being patient may not be easy, but it's always the best and most ethical way to reach your goals. As a farmer patiently waits for his crops to grow, he is committed to the success of his farm. His commitment to the success of his farm had paid off. The yield from his farm was greater than ever before. He was able to provide for his family and sell the surplus to many. His patience and commitment led to success. Similarly, you should be committed to the success of your business. Don't get discouraged if you encounter obstacles along the way. Instead, choose to persevere with faith, and you will work your way out of those obstacles in Jesus' name. Amen. Lamentations 3:26 says, "It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord." Patience with hope is the key to the household of faith and harvest of wealth for those who don't give up in their pursuit of God's will. People with an attitude toward patients understand that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Though it's not always easy to get through such a phase of exhausting hours, it is worth trying. It's okay to feel discouraged sometimes. It is okay to have doubts about your abilities or even your faith. However, that should not stop you from pursuing your dreams. Success due to a high degree of patience is a smart strategy to adopt. Success is a combination of many failed efforts. In order words, failure is part of the steps you have to place your legs on before you get to success. But the successful man never gives up when he steps on failure or faces any Herculean challenge. Even if he gave up in the end, he ensured that he fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept his faith. So, before you quit, give patience a try; you will be surprised it will lead you to a commitment that will open the door to great achievement. Amen. Luke 21:19 says, "By your endurance, you will gain your lives." Amen. Prayer Colossians 1:11; May you be strengthened with all power, according to God's glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy in Jesus' name. "Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit." Ecclesiastes 7:8 It is important to be patient when waiting for a breakthrough. I remember a couple who married and couldn't have a baby for years. Finally, after two years of unfruitful marriage, the woman visited her doctor for a checkup, and after divers tests and observations, the doctor confirmed that she could not carry a baby. That stunned and left her helpless. She got home and disclosed the information to her husband, but this man was a man of faith. He was so deliberate in not giving up on his marriage nor yielding to what the doctor said. He sometimes said, "my babies would look so much like me when they come." He kept praying even when he didn't see any result quickly; everything within and about him was never given up. Some of our dreams can't play out in real life because we tire of chasing them with patience. When God showed us the dream, He never said it would come easy like it was in the dream, but the reality of that dream is sure. It only depends on our tenacious move towards the dream. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." After twenty years of unproductive marriage, the woman miraculously got pregnant and gave birth to twins. That was possible because they never gave up. They persisted until their dream became a reality. If there is a dream you've got, please fuel it and never give up. The reality is near. Psalm 34:10 says, "Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing." When we exhibit patience with God, it creates a pathway for a breakthrough. When we are patient, we open the door for God to work in our lives. Remember, God is faithful and just and will never leave or forsake us. His timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than our own. So, don't grow impatient when things don't happen according to your timeline. I understand everyone wants to see results immediately but gets frustrated when we have to wait. But the Bible tells us repeatedly that God's ways are not our own. In fact, His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). Waiting on the Lord doesn't mean we sit idly by and do nothing. It means having faith that He will come through in His perfect timing. Amen. Hebrews 10:36 says, "For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what is promised." Amen. Let us pray, I thank you Jesus, for giving me the grace to wait patiently for the good plans you have for me Genesis 1:28; In the name of Jesus, you shall celebrate victory over that unfruitful business, marriage, ministry, or anything you are looking to experience a breakthrough in your life. Amen --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-divineo/support
"Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools." Ecclesiastes 7:9 Patience is a virtue that is important in life. It is exhibited when one is enduring difficult times with a calm and composed attitude. However, patience is often preached but not often exhibited because we are a society of instant gratification. We want what we want, and we want it now. Therefore, we are impatience with others and with ourselves. Not only that, but we are constantly on the go and don't have time to slow down. Patience is like a calm lake on a hot summer day. Just as the lake remains cool and serene despite the heat, we too can remain patient despite the trials and tribulations of life. It is being content and considerate of the things happening in the past and the present moment. It is having the peace that comes from knowing that God is in control and that he is working out all things for our good. Romans 9:22, Paul says, "What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction." God has shown us his patience throughout history. He has endured with much patience the sin of humanity. He has shown us mercy and grace, even when we don't deserve it. We can learn from God's example of patience. We can find contentment in the present moment, even when things are not going as we want them to. Likewise, we can trust that God is working out all things for our good. We can be patient with others, even when they are frustrating us. We can be patient with ourselves, even when we are struggling. Proverbs 15:18 says, "A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention." This is a great reminder that patience is a virtue we should all strive for. It's not always easy to be patient, but it's definitely worth it. When we're patient, we're more likely to have calm and peaceful lives. So next time you're feeling frustrated or angry, remember to be patient and slow to anger. It'll make all the difference. lets pray Lord, I thank you for exhibiting your great patience with me. I'm thankful for your patience and ability to respond to my needs. Isaiah 58:6; I pray every yoke of anger in me, disrupting my breakthrough, break and let me go now in the name of Jesus. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-divineo/support
"But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." James 1:4 The book of James tells us that faith without works is dead. One of the key works that faith should produce in a Christian is patience. Just as our faith is often tested, so is our patience. And like faith, patience is a virtue that should be exhibited to others. The virtue of patience is not just a personal quality to be admired; it's a public one that can positively impact those around us. Anyone who lacks patience believes in themselves to be a god who can make things happen instantly. Having patience toward others is considered impossible for some, while some practice it to the limit. However, the kind of patience that is acceptable is like that of God our father and his son, Jesus Christ. It is the kind of patience that made us, that once far away, but we can now approach His throne with boldness. Joel 2:13 says, "And rend your hearts and not your garments." Therefore, return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster." Humankind has been proven to be the worst of God's creations, yet God cherishes them, and His love for us had never wavered, even when we were once rebellious to Him. Expressing a growing determination when people do what we don't like also means letting go of burdens and weights that can easily beset one of the heavenly races. Romans 9:29 says, "And just as Isaiah predicted: If the Lord of Hosts had not left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been made like Gomorrah." In other words, despite all our atrocities and disobedience, God has kept us alive. Therefore, remember, patience in interpersonal relationships is a kind of patience that is exhibited irrespective of the offenses committed. This is what the gospel requires, and believers should live by it. The role of the Holy Spirit in the place of patience cannot be shortchanged so as not to be patient beyond limits. Amen. Romans 2:4 says, "Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?" Amen. Let us pray, Dear God, thank you for your patience towards humankind and for showing us true patience. Holy Spirit, help me to live patiently with everyone so that I might reap my reward greatly in heaven in Jesus' name. Amen. 2 Thessalonians 3:5; May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-divineo/support

Creating playful objects and curious scenes inspired by childhood memories and dreams, Caterina Weintraub uses glass, a fragile and heavy material, to recreate iconic toys or re-imagine personal memories that evoke a sense of sentiment, wonder and discomfort. She utilizes a variety of techniques to create sculptures and installations in her Boston-based studio, Fiamma Glass. From intricate torch work to large-scale kiln castings and hot blown pieces, she chooses the process best suited to realize her vision. Fiamma Glass Studio was established in 2010 in Newton, Massachusetts, by native Bostonians, David and Caterina Weintraub. Both are graduates of Massachusetts College of Art & Design, where they met over 13 years ago. Fiamma Glass Studio offers flameworking and glassblowing instruction, design, fabrication and consultation. Caterina's glass experience includes internships with Dan Dailey and Bel Vetro Glass, Brockton, Massachusetts. She has been awarded scholarships to the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts and Mass Art and was presented with Habatat Gallery's International Award. Recent exhibitions include Not Your Grandma's Glass, Habatat, Royal Oak, Michigan. In 2021, the gallery promoted a year-long glass competition featuring 12 artists, including Weintraub, who push their medium beyond the norm. Each artist chose a single month of the year to create an online presentation. Habatat asked the artists to create on such a level that the body of work could be displayed at their dream museum. Says Aaron Schey, international art dealer, owner and partner of Habatat Michigan, founder of the Glass Art Fair and Not Grandma's Glass: “This exhibition promoted 12 unique online presentations by 12 artists that are pushing the medium beyond the norm – creating work that is probably not in grandma's collection…..yet. These artists are extremely innovative, and I propose that they will all be important in the future of the glass medium.” Glass Lifeforms, on view in 2021 at Fuller Craft Museum's Stone and Barstow Galleries, Brockton, MA, featured Weintraub's sculpture. Curated by Sally Prasch, Glass Lifeforms 2021 featured contemporary artworks inspired by Harvard University's acclaimed collections of plant and invertebrate models produced in the 19th and 20th centuries by Czech glass artists Leopold and Rudolph Blaschka. The exhibition included artists working in various glass techniques, including lampworking, glassblowing, pâte de verre, and others. Exhibited works were selected by a jury based on accuracy in representing the organism, aesthetic beauty, presentation, and originality. Unforgettable, Weintraub's signature polka dot bunnies, glass lab rats and humorous finger puppets linger in the viewer's memory long after initial viewing, proving this artist has conquered the ultimate challenge of finding a style and voice in glass.

In the beginning there was no fixed space. For the past 5 years there were different venues in different cities. The nomadic character of the curated exhibition series under the moniker "Cornelis van Almsick Satellite" with its temporal character and its special locations were unique to Vienna. Spatial conditions had a great influence on how our shows were put together, where there was always a close relationship within the works exhibited and the qualities of the space. During this period we had the chance to work and intensify the connection to the artists and their work, as well as curators and collectors, rather than having the burden of filling a permanent exhibition space. Unconventional places (including Telegrafenamt Lehargasse 7 or Telegrafenamt Berggasse 35) offered the artists the opportunity to be part of novel group exhibitions and to sharpen their profile alongside like minded peers. The constantly changing exhibition venues posed great challenges, but the sometimes-difficult circumstances encouraged resourcefulness. Many of the initial obstacles were opposed by a plethora of ideas and dedicated collaborations - a valuable bond between artists and exhibitors was established. Cornelis van Almsick graduated as an architect at the Technical University of Berlin in 2007, after studying at the University of Applied Arts in Zaha Hadid's masterclass between 2003 and 2007. Since 2012 he has been working increasingly as a freelance curator. Exhibited artists included a.o. Daniel Richter, Heimo Zobernig, Wolfgang Lehrner, Kay Walkowiak and Angelika Loderer. Magdalena Zeller graduated in 2008 as an architect at the Vienna University of Technology. Subsequently, she obtained a Master's degree in Architecture from SciArc, Los Angeles in 2010. In 2012, she initiated COMA Studios, which she has been running with Cornelis van Almsick ever since.
