CEO of the Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers (ASSC), Fiona Campbell, joins Lets Talk for episode 76 to discuss the serious concerns of the measures introduced by the Scottish Government to regulate the short-term lettings industry.
Today Laura and Kevin speak with Fiona Campbell about legal strategy, legal forensics, the impact of legacy tech lingering around, Chat GPT, Open AI, Sarah Silverman, DSARs, and other pain points. We also reminisce about the eDiscovery Ireland conference in 2019 and what lawyers really want. Fiona Campbell leads the eDiscovery practice at Fieldfisher, a multinational law firm headquartered in London. She provides commercial and strategic advice to both individuals and corporate entities across a range of business landscapes, industries and sectors on litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Prior to joining Fieldfisher, Fiona worked at a US law firm and as in-house counsel at a number of London-based global consultancies. Fiona has focused on eDiscovery since qualifying as a lawyer, having previously been a barrister and also an in-house counsel focusing on combining law with technology to effectively manage high-profile disputes. Fiona is also an accredited mediator.
The amazing Fiona Campbell is with us today on Power in Diversity. Her career has been very diverse, going from air traffic control to hospitality to sales. She's a clinical hypnotherapy, an NLP trainer, an executive coach, and a corporate facilitator. As a certified NLP business trainer, Fiona is helping businesses with communication skills, leadership development, and sales training. KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the biggest breaks Fiona had in her career was getting into sales at Xerox without a university degree. The hiring manager said we can train you, you'll learn, you've already demonstrated how you can be organised, and the attitude you've demonstrated is what we're looking for. If you're telling yourself that you have imposter syndrome and feel like you're not deserving of your success, then you should listen to Fiona's advice on changing how you talk to yourself. Changing the way you think about yourself changes how you feel about yourself. recognise your successes, when you do something well, write it down and then when you feel like an imposter, read it. When a man is asked to do something in business, he'll normally say yes and do it. When a woman's asked to do something, she'll say, oh, well, I haven't done this, and I haven't done that. Women will start talking about all the things they can't do or that they haven't done before. They verbalise it to themselves, whereas the guys do it in their own heads. When you're in a leadership position, say yes and then find out how you're going to do it. Don't talk about everything you can't do. Talk about the things you can do. Something Fiona always says to leaders when succession planning is that they need to find out the people that want to be developed and grown. You pick the people that are putting their hands up. You cannot train in enthusiasm and motivation, You have to find those qualities in a person and develop the rest. BEST MOMENTS ‘It's lifelong learning, nothing stops, and age does not matter.' ‘Stop telling yourself you're an imposter. Stop it. Stop putting that label onto yourself.' ‘If you don't open your mouth in business and say what you've achieved, someone else is going to own it for themselves.' ‘Get me involved in something I want. How can I help? How can I do this? Say to your manager, in two years time, I would love to be in that position like you. How do I do it?' ‘If you use language in a certain way, you can influence behaviour.' EPISODE RESOURCES www.nlpbusinesscircle.com Fiona on LinkedIn ABOUT THE GUEST “I started my career in Air Traffic Control, moved into Hospitality and for many years worked around Europe running clubs and bars. I then transitioned into Sales and had been working in Dubai as a Sales Manager for Xerox in the late 80's when I got my big NLP 'WOW' moment. This is when I knew that I had stumbled on something special. My introduction to NLP was the catalyst to major life changes. I moved back to the UK and immersed myself in learning as much as I could about the way the mind works. I qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Life Coach, Business Performance Coach, NLP Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner, Licensed NLP Trainer and finally an NLP Business Coach Trainer. In 2001 I set up my own company focusing on helping others learn to use NLP techniques, to help them become better Business Leaders and Coaches. I developed a range of NLP based Corporate Communication, Presentation and Coaching courses. In 2005 I created my NLP Business Practitioner, NLP Business Master Practitioner and NLP Business Coach Programmes. I have been delivering these in the UK, UAE and India and since 2020, and I now deliver most of my training online. As we are living in a time of complete disruption, the need for business leaders to develop the mental agility that NLP skills provide, has never been greater. Having spent years refining the use of NLP for business and coaching it's now my passion to train as many people as I can to use theses amazing techniques to help others have more choices and lead the best life they can” PODCAST DESCRIPTION Power in Diversity Podcast is a space where professional women from diverse backgrounds, eager to grow as leaders, come to be inspired and gain wisdom from other leaders. As my guests share their journey, I hope that it will give you; an aspiring or established female leader; meaning to your journey, illuminating your path and equipping you with a greater understanding of how to carve and navigate your success pathway with greater ease. Power in Diversity Podcast is also designed to equip not only individuals but, crucially, organisations who must learn to create diverse and inclusive organisations practically and not merely as a tick box exercise; especially now in this ever-changing world, everyone's diverse insight is vital to solving world issues. I hope that this podcast allows organisations to appreciate the real barriers female and ethnic minority groups face in stepping into leadership, barriers sadly I and many others have faced, and many continue to face. I'm proud to be British and proud of my African Heritage, my tribe, part of the Benin Empire. I feel blessed to be a woman. This is a non-judgmental space, but a space to learn and to become aware of the gifts and Power in Diversity. There is a lot of talk these days about consumers data privacy, and with good reason. With many high profile data breaches exposing customer data, as well as a lot of uncertainty about how consumers' data is exactly being used, there have been moves both from a regulatory perspective (such as GDPR in the EU and CCPA in the State of California) to provide greater protection for consumers and their data. Yet, we also see that when customers have trust in a brand to use their data well, they are open to providing more information. For instance, a recent MediaMath survey showed that 74% of consumers are willing to share preferences, interests and demographic information directly with brands if that would improve their online shopping experience. Today we're going to talk about the importance of consumer privacy in fostering stronger relations between platforms and customers. According to Fiona Campbell, NLP is the methodology of how we create behavior. In my podcast conversation she explains that all behavior is a structure. This structure can be replicated, modelled or changed. It means that we are in control of our life. Fiona says that we are creating our own perspective of any situation, depending on where we put our focus & depending on what we decide to filter and what information we delete, distort or generalize. In NLP we recognize that our thoughts create our results and behavior. But what most people don't know is that we can take control of our thoughts. When we take control of our thoughts, we can change our perspective in any situation. NLP has lots of uses and amazing applications for communication, influencing, persuasion and accelerated learning. In this amazing conversation we talk about: ✅The importance of positive self-talk and how to practice it ✅The importance of focusing what you want to happen vs. what you don't want to happen ✅2 NLP Techniques to help you overcome unwanted and un resourceful behaviour(s) ✅NLP Techniques to help you change your limiting beliefs ✅NLP Techniques to help you alleviate Perimenopause symptoms ✅Importance of nutrition & staying hydrated Fiona also shares with us her inspirational story, the best advice she's ever been given and her favourite Self-Care actions for good health and wellness. When you think of a woman who founded a successful global company, what do you see?Now add presenting at conferences, delivering training workshops and working with high-profile organisations. You probably picture a person full of extroverted confidence, who must never struggle to speak, network, or feel doubtful, don’t you? It’s easy for us to assume that others don’t experience the same anxieties that we do. And for us to believe we’re less capable than they are. Or for us to strive for success based on what we are told it is meant to look like (even if it’s not what we actually want, or suits who we are).In this episode, Introverted Entrepreneur, Fiona Campbell-Howes shares why it's important for you to redefine success on your own terms, work to your introverted strengths, care for your wellbeing in the workplace (as an employer, employee or business owner), and to seek out support when you need it. I’d like to offer a warm thank you to quiet volunteer and community member, Julia, for her comfort zone stretch in reaching out to Fiona and leading this interview. Well done! On episode 24 of the Maximise Potential Podcast we interviewed Fiona Campbell, a globally renowned Leadership Development Trainer and Author, who introduced us all to the fundamentals of Nurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and today, we are very pleased to join Fiona once again. A short time ago I was participating in a training course run by Fiona who was discussing the subject of successful outcomes and how, when seeking to improve our outcomes, the majority of people focus their efforts in the wrong place. Up until this point, I like most others had always assumed that in order to change the outcome of any situation you must focus on changing the actions that you put into it. However, Fiona explained that changing your actions alone will not nessessarily lead to improved results, explaining how you must begin the process of change by initially focusing internally, upon your thoughts and feelings. Here is Fiona to explain more... Key messages from Fiona: T (thoughts) F (feelings) A (actions) = R (results) The 'little voice' inside your head can be re-directed to ask positive, resourceful questions If you or someone in your team is not achieving their goals, don't just try and fix it - ask them questions, find out what they are thinking and help them to find their own solutions Further reading: ARTICLE: "How we achieve our results" by Fiona Campbell and Kevin Matthews Additional notes and resources (just click on the links for more information): AMAZON: Fiona Campbell's e-Books on Amazon INTERVIEW: Listen to Fiona's first interview with Maximise Potential WEBSITE: Fiona's website is packed full of excellent communication and NLP advice Follow and Connect with the Maximise Potential Podcast on TWITTER: TWITTER: @MaximiseMyLife Rate the Maximise Potential Podcast on i-Tunes: http://bit.ly/itunes-maxpotential Interview Transcription: Transcript: Max#42 - Fiona Campbell, Achieving Success Results Sponsors: Jenrick Recruitment - specialists in Engineering, IT and Commercial recruitment services Xerxes Music
In response to the amount of interest that our interviews have generated within the subject of NLP, we decided to interview one of the most prominent trainer's and coaches within this field. Fiona Campbell is one of the UK's most distinguished NLP Trainers, who specialises in NLP for Business Success. She is has over 20 years of NLP and Business Coaching experience, having been personally trained by the Founder of NLP, Richard Bandler, who she continues to work with today. When I was preparing for the interview I amazed by the abundance of glowing testimonials that Fiona has received from so many of the people she has trained. Here are just some of the quotes . . . "Fiona really helped me to become more positive in my workplace and become a better leader." "She has helped me particularly in improving my communication and influencing skills in sales situations and making me more successful." "As Fiona works regularly with Richard Bandler, she has firsthand knowledge of new ideas and developments that make her the most current NLP trainer in the country." So, in between a hectic schedule of courses, we managed to sit down with Fiona to record this interview, where she very eloquently explains the fundamentals of NLP and then gives us all NLP techniques which we can immediately apply on the phone, in person and through email to improve the effectiveness of our communication within business.
