Jarry traces the claim to a 2000 Institute of Medicine report and a 2016 BMJ paper co-authored by Dr. Marty Makary, exposing their flawed extrapolations from small, non-representative studies. He highlights issues like erroneous assumptions, small sample sizes, and the challenge of determining causality in deaths linked to errors. Jarry explains how this inflated statistic fuels fear, drives patients toward unproven alternative treatments, and erodes trust in healthcare. He offers practical ways to push back against the myth while acknowledging the need for improved patient safety systems. This episode is essential for healthcare professionals and patients seeking clarity on medical errors and their true impact.Three Actionable TakeawaysChallenge the Statistic with Facts – When confronted with the claim that medical error is the third leading cause of death, explain that it stems from flawed extrapolations (e.g., 62% of hospital deaths attributed to errors is unrealistic) and cite more reliable estimates (0.6%–5% of hospital deaths).Promote Patient Safety Transparently – Acknowledge medical errors as a real issue but emphasize ongoing efforts to improve safety, like rigorous error reporting systems, to maintain trust without dismissing legitimate concerns.Educate on Context – Share that small, non-representative studies (e.g., Medicare patients or regional data) were misused to inflate error rates, encouraging patients to seek evidence-based care rather than unproven alternatives.About the ShowSucceed In Medicine  covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. You cover outlets, block stairs, baby-proof the cabinets — but did you miss the biggest risk in your home? Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for children ages 1–4, but most parents don't realize how crucial water safety really is until it's too late. After losing her son, Andrea Montoya turned her grief into action, founding the Sylas Project to raise awareness, provide swim scholarships, and help families prevent the kind of tragedy she experienced. In this episode, Andrea shares what she wishes she had known earlier about water safety, the common misconceptions that put young children at risk, and what parents can do to keep their kids safe. You'll learn why survival swim is better than traditional swim lessons and the one product most parents trust but can actually put their kids in danger. This is a must-have conversation as summer approaches, so tune in now to start preparing! Connect with The Sylas Project: WebsiteInstagramConnect with Jamie at Truman Charities:FacebookInstagramLinkedInWebsiteYouTubeEmail: info@trumancharities.comThis episode was post produced by Podcast Boutique https://podcastboutique.com/

“Heart Care is the New Self-Care” – Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum This interview could save your life or the life of a woman you know. Please share it with every woman in your life. Heart disease is the number one killer of women but so many women are unaware of this information. Today's show is going to spotlight the importance of taking care of your heart health, what the key risk factors are, and how to focus on prevention. While on the show notes page, I'd love for you to join our community. You'll receive more inspiration and tips to love yourself and your life. You'll get a FREE copy of Michele's Book, Design a Life You Love. *This interview is for entertainment purposes only. For medical advice, seek out your trusted healthcare provider.   WHAT WE DISCUSS: The statistics about heart disease and how it is the #1 killer of women. 70% of women don't realize they are at risk. The role research, the doctors, and even women have played and not changing this statistic in the last twenty years. How we can take ownership of our health since 80% of heart disease is preventable. The importance of preventative care. The blood tests we need as well as the other factors that play into our heart health. The symptoms that women may have and how they differ from men. Knowledge is power here to advocate for yourself. Women still die in the hospital of heart attacks. The importance of exercise, sleep, and meditation. Why Dr. Steinbaum is launching Adesso (means now in Italian) and how it is going to change the landscape of heart health, and more.   RESOURCES MENTIONED Websites: https://www.drsuzannesteinbaum.com/ www.adesso.health Book: Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum's Heart Book: Every Woman's Guide to a Heart-Healthy Life IG: Dr. Steinbaum on IG Adesso on IG Connect with Michele on Instagram   “Since the dawn of recorded time in almost every culture, our heart has been the symbol of our ultimate essence as human beings. Cupid, St. Valentine, the source of songs, poetry and art, our heart elevates that which makes us fully alive: our capacity for love, passion, romance, purpose. Life at its fullest. And yet heart disease is the #1 killer of women. 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease and for the past 20 years, over the course of my entire career as a preventive cardiologist, that figure hasn't changed. This disconnect, this Grand Canyon from the abstract idea of our hearts and the real working function of the organ at the center of our being, is what needs to change. We know now that preventing heart disease is not defined just by medical data like blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, sugars and medication. True heart health stems from every aspect of our lives, like stress, relationships, sleep, how we nourish ourselves, how we move and yes, even how we love. As we fully put ourselves and our heart at the center of our lives, we will fully change the course of this disease that 80 percent of the time is preventable. We can and will change this. When we live from the heart, we live! Life at its fullest.”   MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum is a leader in preventive cardiology, now in private practice in New York. She launched heart prevention programs at Mt. Sinai Heart, Northwell Lenox Hill and Beth Israel. She is the CEO/Founder of Adesso, a technology-based prevention model. She is also the author of “Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum's Heart Book: Every Woman's Guide to a Heart Healthy Life”, and has been a national spokesperson for Go Red through the American Heart Association for 18 years. "Medical errors, hauntingly, stand as the third leading cause of death in many parts of the world, casting a shadow over the very institutions entrusted with preserving life. Behind this alarming statistic lies a sobering reality: despite advances in medical science and technology, preventable mistakes continue to claim countless lives each year. From misdiagnoses to medication errors, surgical complications to communication breakdowns, the complexities of modern healthcare harbor myriad opportunities for errors to occur. Acknowledging this grim truth is not an indictment of the healthcare profession but a call to action for systemic change. It demands a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement to ensure that every patient receives the safe, high-quality care they deserve."

It's Wednesday, January 3rd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Pakistan, Nigeria, China, & Afghanistan increasingly persecute Christians Release International put out their Persecution Trends 2024 report last week. Paul Robinson, CEO of the persecution watchdog, said, “Anti-Christian persecution is rising in India and other nations around the world. Hostility is turning to violence. Christians are being attacked and driven from their homes.” Pakistan, Nigeria, China, Afghanistan, Eritrea, North Korea, and Iran are increasingly persecuting Christians as well. Despite being the worst country in the world for the persecution of Christians, the report noted that believers actually gained ground in North Korea. Under the cover of the pandemic, they ministered through radio broadcasts and online content.  2 Corinthians 4:8-10 says, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” Abortion: Leading cause of death worldwide Once again abortion was the leading cause of death last year. Worldometers estimates at least 44 million babies were murdered in the womb last year. The World Health Organization has an even higher yearly estimate, “Around 73 million induced abortions take place worldwide each year.” Based on that, abortion accounted for over half of deaths last year, far outpacing deaths from cancer, smoking, and disease.  Abortion remains the leading cause of death in the United States as well. Nearly one million babies were killed in 2023. Christian student's T-shirt: “Homosexuality is a sin.” The daughter of a street preacher finally reached a settlement with a Tennessee school in a religious liberty case. Three years ago, Livingston Academy public high school sent Brielle Penkoski home for wearing a shirt that read, “Homosexuality is a sin” with the Bible reference of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. Her father, Rich Penkoski, told The Christian Post, “Brielle got $100, which is way, way more than we thought she was going to get. The other part of this is all the teachers, at least from 2020, were told to start taking First Amendment courses. It was one of the things that I insisted on.” Trump back on Colorado ballot Former President Donald Trump is back on the ballot in Colorado. Last month, the state's Supreme Court ruled he was ineligible for the presidency based on the insurrection clause in the 14th Amendment.  Last Wednesday, the Colorado GOP appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. Colorado's Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, responded by announcing Trump's inclusion on the ballot until the high court acts. Meanwhile, Trump leads President Joe Biden in a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll 39% to 37%. Trump also leads or has made gains among Black, Hispanic, and young voters. Sound of Freedom: 10th biggest movie of 2023 The faith-based movie Sound of Freedom from Angel Studios came in 10th at the box office last year. Jim Caviezel starred in the film based on a true story about rescuing children from human trafficking. Sound of Freedom grossed over $184 million. It beat out several big productions with much larger budgets like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part One. Only 37% of Americans make New Year's Resolutions A CBS News poll found only 37% of Americans make New Year's resolutions. But of those who do, 59% said their New Year's resolutions will mostly be about praying or attending religious services more. The survey noted, “Those who already attend religious services at least weekly are overwhelmingly likely to say their resolution is to pray and attend services more.”  Bible remains best-selling book of all time And finally, the best-selling book in 2023 was, you guessed it, the Bible. It's also the most sold book of all time. Guinness World Records notes, “The best-selling book of all time is the Christian Bible. It is impossible to know exactly how many copies have been printed in the roughly 1,500 years since its contents were standardized, but research conducted by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 2021 suggests that the total number probably lies between 5 and 7 billion copies.”  On top of that, about 80 million Bibles are printed every year. Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, January 3rd in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. It's Thursday, January 5th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark How Chinese Communists are co-opting Christianity The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom released a report on China last month. The Chinese Communist Party is continuing its five-year plan to sinicize major religions in the country, including Christianity.  The report noted, “Official campaigns to sinicize religion have a disproportionally adverse impact on Christianity. … State-controlled religious organizations have been involved in altering, censoring, and controlling the content of Christian religious texts (such as the Bible) … doctrines, sermons, and hymns to ensure their alignment with the Chinese Communist Party's interpretation of religion.” Those who do not bow to such control face severe persecution. Abortion:  Global leading cause of death Abortion was the leading cause of death last year, accounting for 40% of all deaths. Worldometer statistics report over 44 million unborn babies were killed by abortion in 2022. By comparison, an estimated 16 million people died from disease last year, 9.6 million from cancer, 6 million from smoking, and 2 million from HIV/AIDS. In the United States, there are an estimated 1,500 to 2,500 abortions per day. This means nearly 20% of all pregnancies in America (not including miscarriages) end in abortion. Psalm 106:37-38 says, “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood.” Hungary's tax policies urges married couples to have kids In contrast, one country is seeking to support families. Hungary  implemented a new tax policy this month that exempts mothers under the age of 30 from paying income tax. The tax exemption also applies to working adults under the age 25 and mothers with at least four children. The program offers financial support for buying seven-seater cars as well. Hungary has been enacting pro-family policies to encourage increased birthrates. GOP's McCarthy voted down time after time for House speaker House Republicans flailed through a long second day of fruitless balloting Wednesday, unable to either elect Kevin McCarthy as House speaker or come up with a new strategy to end the political chaos that has tarnished the start of their new majority, reports the Associated Press. Yet McCarthy wasn't giving up, even after the fourth, fifth and sixth ballots produced no better outcome. Twenty conservative holdouts still refuse to support him, leaving McCarthy far short of the 218 votes typically needed to win the gavel. Appearing on Fox News, Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas, one of the 20 conservatives opposing McCarthy, said this. ROY: “[McCarthy] has been in the leadership of Republicans since 2009. During that time, the debt has gone from 11 trillion to 32 trillion. In other words, we want to be able to have a check against The Swamp. This is about changing this town. Is anybody listening to this actually happy with what Congress is doing? Do you think Congress is doing a good job? The answer is ‘No.' So, why would we embrace the status quo? Why would we keep doing the same thing over and over again, that's what's happening in that room. “And this morning, a group of folks threatened some of us and they lost votes on that. Mike Rogers threatened to say he's going to kick those of us off of any committees who dared to challenge the coronation of the Speaker. And it was not received well by a lot of people in the room. Mike Rogers is emblematic of the problem. He is precisely why we ended up with bills like the $1.7 trillion monstrosity that was destroying our freedom. I'm not blinking!” House Speaker elections required multiple ballots 14 times Throughout American history, there have been 14 instances of Speaker elections requiring multiple ballots. Thirteen of 14 multiple-ballot elections occurred before the Civil War, when party divisions were more nebulous. The last time a Speaker election required two or more votes on the floor happened in 1923 with the election of Frederick Gillett, a Republican, from Massachusetts. Twitter previously suspended 250,000 accounts The latest batch of Twitter files show just how many accounts the social media company suspended on behalf of the U.S. government prior to Elon Musk taking over, reports CBN News. New Twitter owner Elon Musk tweeted, “US govt agency demanded suspension of 250K accounts, including journalists and Canadian officials!” Meanwhile, the Christian Post reports Twitter reinstated its account last Saturday. The Christian news group tweeted, “Our Twitter account has just been reinstated after a 9-month suspension because we correctly called Biden official Rachel Levine a man — and we refused to retract this truth.” 88% of Congressmen claim to be Christians Pew Research reports this year's 118th U.S. Congress remains untouched by two American demographic trends: the decline of Christianity and the rise of religious disaffiliation. Self-identified Christians have dropped to 63% of the population, and those who identify with no religion have increase to nearly 30% of the population. However, 88% of voting members of Congress say they are Christians, and only one member identifies as religiously unaffiliated. Since the 1960s, the Protestant makeup of Congress has dropped from 74% to 56%. Meanwhile, Roman Catholic identification has increased from 18% to 27%. Identification with other religions or no religion increased from 6% to 15%. Cardiac arrest of NFL player results in prayer on field And finally, NFL Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a game Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals that turned into a viral prayer meeting.  The rest of the game was suspended. Hamlin, #3, had just stood up after being tackled before collapsing to the ground. Medics immediately performed CPR to restart his heart which lasted for nine minutes.   At the same time, head coach Sean McDermott gathered with his team to pray over their teammate. An ambulance took Hamlin to the ICU where he remains in critical condition with signs of improvement. His uncle, Dorrian Glenn, told CNN that Hamlin remained sedated on a ventilator as doctors worked toward getting him to breathe on his own. ESPN commentator prayed spontaneously on air Across social media, players and fans alike offered prayers for Hamlin. A day after the game, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky prayed a spontaneous prayer for him on “NFL Live.” Listen. ORLOVSKY: “We just want to pray, truly come to You, and pray for strength for Damar, for healing for Damar, for comfort for Damar, to be with his family, to give them peace. If we didn't believe that prayer didn't work, we wouldn't ask this of You God. I believe in prayer. We believe in prayer. We lift up to Damar Hamlin's name in Your name, Amen.” ANOTHER ESPN COMMENTATOR: “Amen.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, January 5th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.
