In this episode, Ken and Gisele share their experience in Barcelona, Spain. They had a complementary coach tour through the city, which they like to call a drive by tour. They've been to Barcelona a lot, so this tour was good to see a lot in a short amount of time. The Viking stop in Barcelona was a little odd because they landed there and THEN departed the next day. They visited restaurants that were open and discussed some great must-see spots such as the Sagrada Familia (get tickets obvioulsy!). Think about when you go as there are cool things to consider in terms of sunlight coming in through the windows at different times of the day. Viking Jupiter Tip of the day: Ken's tip is that since 70% of flights are booked for summer 2023, you ought to book flights sooner rather than later - prices are not likely to come down folks! Gisele's tip is to pay attention to your credit card perks when you travel. Ken and Gisele Fowle retired several years ago to pursue their lifelong love of travel. Their sojourns have taken them through hundreds of countries and have ranged from sublime cruises in the warm waters of the Caribbean to rugged treks up Mt. Everest and across the Galapagos. Join Ken and Gisele as they share their varied experiences and the tips and tricks that will help you create adventures tailored to your own passions and lifestyle. Scott Keyes is the founder and CEO of Scott’s Cheap Flights. In 2013, he found a flight deal he just can’t pass out on—a $130 roundtrip from New York City to Milan. When he returned home, his friends and colleagues asked him to let them know the next time he finds a great deal. In a nutshell, that’s how Scott’s Cheap Flights came about. Scott’s Cheap Flights aims to enable people to travel and see and experience the world. Unlike automated flight deals and alerts sent out by way of affiliated links, they leverage their team of human flight experts and innovative software to provide meticulously-vetted and high quality deals that are worth their members’ time and money. To date, Scott’s Cheap Flights has around 1.6 million members (and growing each day!). The total amount of airfare their deals have helped members save is already at a whopping $100 million! Scott’s Cheap Flights is ran by a remote team with members situated in many parts of the world. Undoubtedly, they are making people's travel dreams attainable, one deal at a time! Dan Miller lives in Cincinnati with his wife and 6 (SIX!) kids. You can follow Dan on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. TIPS FOR USING POINTS FOR FAMILY TRAVEL Stay at budget hotels like the Holiday Inn Express, where you will get free parking, WiFi, and breakfast, unlike luxury hotels Consider train travel instead of planes using Chase points -- plus the kids love train travel! Focus on convertible currencies, where you can transfer points to other programs, such as American Express Rewards, Chase, and others, so you aren't tied to any one specific program or brand Some higher end cards have annual fees but you can keep signing up for different ones to get the travel credits and then cancel so you don't keep paying annual fees Don't just sign up for a card because of a blog post or a marketing campaign -- read the fine print and make sure it is the best fit for you. Always pay off existing credit card debt first and only use it for what you can pay off each month Begin with the end in mind -- figure out where you want to go and then get the best card or points programs that will get you there Just sign up for 1-2 credit cards at a time and make sure you can meet the spending requirements for bonuses on spending you are already doing For flight sales: follow Secret Flyer and Flight Deals to get airfare deals (when you are paying with cash, not miles) Start planning 9-12 months in advance to build up the points that you need When booking for multiple people, you will need to be as flexible as possible. Chase the deal, not the location. You can only choose two of the location, deal or dates. If you can be flexible on your location and dates, you can get a good deal. Contact Dan at dan@pointswithacrew.com if you need help FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Dan likes to be comfortable and wear jeans and t-shirts when he travels.
