In this episode of Stronger Marriage Connection, hosts Dr. Dave Schramm and Dr.Liz Hale sit down with Heather Holmgren, a marriage and family therapist and founder of Simple Modern Therapy. Heather shares insights on emotional regulation, the essential skill of deep listening, and how to approach conflict with curiosity rather than reactivity. She explains the importance of self- awareness, emotional control, and co-regulation to help couples navigate difficult conversations. Heather provides actionable advice for slowing down during conflicts, truly hearing your partner, and fostering a healthy, supportive relationship. Tune in to discover practical tips to strengthen communication and deepen your connection. About Heather: Heather Holmgren, LMFT and founder of Simple Modern Therapy, has committed her 20-yearcareer to understanding what makes a modern relationship thrive.Through it all she has foundthis much to be true: if you aren't happy with yourself, your intimate and professionalrelationships are likely to fail. She has built a flourishing career and flourishing practice helping contemporary individuals, relationships and families learn to love each other, “Love Yourself and Love Your Life." She is one of eight incredible therapists providing support to individuals and relationships indowntown Salt Lake City (and Utah, virtually). All Simple Modern therapists have additionaltraining and expertise in relationship work, as well as providing affirming care to LGBTQIA+relationships. Heather is passionate about professional mentorship and has supervised clinicians for the lastten years. She is a strong advocate for the practice of good mental hygiene, and can be foundspeaking on this topic, as well as relationship related issues on Good Things Utah, at EdisonHouse and for corporations across the state. You can also find Heather, with her colleagueAndrès Brown, providing training, support and consultation to the larger therapeuticcommunity, expanding the reach of skilled and affirming inclusive relationship therapy. Insights: Heather: "The more aware you are of where you are emotionally, what kind of outside stressors are impacting your mental health and mood can really be a big factor in how you're showing up in your relationships. So take care of yourself. Take care of yourself. It's not selfish, it is self care, and that helps us be much more effective in our relationships. And you know, secondarily, I feel like I have to say that listening is anart, and if we think we're good at communicating, we have to ask ourselves, how good am I at really listening to understand at relationally attuning." Liz: "Just thinking about speaking of being generous and kind. I think listening is one of the more generous and kindest things that we can do." Dave: "I think it's when you're talking about the pause. I just think that there's a power in the pause. The power in the pause to be able to not react, to be able to gives us at least a chance, pause, take a breath, allow our hearts, our minds, our brains, to be able to okay, I'm going to reflect and respond instead of react right now." She married the love of her life in 2020 and they adventured to Hawaii for the next year! She took on many roles in Hawaii and supported her husband while he was playing basketball and getting his master's degree at the University of Hawaii.    Upon returning to the mainland in 2021, she applied for an opening as a producer of none other than Good Things Utah. With a deeper sense of self-worth and newfound confidence in what she has to offer, she was offered the position and is currently striving to make a positive impact on the show.    In today's episode, Savvy dives into the different aspects that make up our identity. She hopes to help listeners see the gift they already are, not in what they 'do' but in who they have always been. Savvy will inspire the audience to own their power from within and step into who they were meant to be.    … #classy #inspiring #confident #mindset #mindsetmatters #mentalhealth #love #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #healing #recovery #hope #beliefcast #toddinspires #tsinspires   .... “It takes two years and then you'll be great,” is what Nicea DeGering was told after her divorce. Divorce can be horrible, but it can also be amazing. It all depends on how you set your expectations and perspective. Today's guest, Nicea DeGering, shares her journey to self-discovery and tips on how to move forward with life after divorce. I met my guest today when I joined her ABC4 show, Good Things Utah, last year while promoting my book, No One Dies from Divorce. Nicea DeGering has been a television news reporter and anchor on ABC4, and now co-host of the Emmy award winning morning show Good Things Utah for more than two decades in Salt Lake City. She has covered stories like Elizabeth Smart's disappearance and the 2002 Olympics, and interviewed everyone from presidential candidate Mitt Romney to superstar Garth Brooks. In her spare time, Nicea can be seen and heard on local tv and radio commercials, visiting her daughter in college at FIT in NYC or cheering on her high schooler at swim meets. Her favorite child is and will always be a fuzzy, blonde Goldendoodle named Miles.Although so much damage is done during such a life event, it can be an incredible opportunity for personal growth that will allow you to understand yourself better, understand how to empathize with others better, and find a new and better way to navigate your journey through life-stronger than you have ever been. Nicea got married in Utah pretty young (22), to her high school sweetheart and then was married for 24 years. Looking back now, she realizes how she lost herself along the way, and is now sharing the tips that have helped her live her best life after divorce. As you walk this path, consider this advice from her and Jill:Find your tribeBe proactive in finding ways Change “what if” to “next time”Focus on what you want before you start thinking about how to get itCreate your own opportunities Commit to your growthRediscover your values Do things your loveBe positive and a beacon for goodLearn to be more empathetic and compassionateForgive others and look forwardMend other relationships in your lifeDiscover love againNicea compares life after divoce to the “butterfly effect”, as she continues to make small changes to discover more of who she is and what she wants. It's time The hope she feels now, which took years to build up, has replaced the fear and anxiety of the unknown. Divorcing should not be the end. It should be the fresh start to live your fullest life. Start by believing you are worthy of happiness!

Conversations with Phil Gerbyshak - Aligning your mindset, skill set and tool set for peak performance

You I'm so excited to share this episode with you. Eric Dodge is an amazing musician, terrific speaker, and really wonderful human being. I met him several years ago at a national speaker's association event, and we've been friends ever since. Why Not Today is one of his best songs, but it isn't just a song, it's Eric's mantra. His way of being. He explains why this means so much to him, and how we can all use that to soar beyond our wildest dreams.  Eric Dodge's music is what makes him famous, but his heart is something you'll notice as soon as you listen to him. And as a bonus, just for us, he performs one of his songs. You won't want to miss this episode! For more from Eric, visit http://EricDodge.com Why Not Today?!? More about Eric Dodge Eric Dodge discovered his passion for singing in the most heartfelt of ways. While always having a strong love for music, his greatest fear was to share that passion publicly. On September 11th, 2001, as our great country suffered a terrorist attack, Eric was on a cruise ship outside of Mexico. That fateful day was when Eric made his decision to no longer be afraid. He stepped up to the microphone aboard the ship to share his voice and love of music. He was no longer willing to let his fear keep him from what was truly his gift to the world. He opened up his heart and sang Garth Brooks’ song “The Dance”. After his performance, a passenger approached him and encouraged him to pursue a singing career. Just as many others were changed by the events of 9/11, Eric took her words to heart and decided to follow his heart into the world of country music. Eric has worked with Seth Riggs, vocal coach to the Stars in Hollywood and from there was sent to train with Jeffrey Skouson in Las Vegas. Thanks to these great coaches, Eric began sharing his talents professionally in 2003. He’s performed hundreds of shows all over the United States and Canada. He has opened for many of Nashville’s finest country music stars including: the late Chris LeDoux, Diamond Rio, Little Texas, John Michael Montgomery, Justin Moore, Collin Raye, SheDAISY, Terri Clark, Julianne Hough, Clint Black, Travis Tritt,  Lorrie Morgan, Pam Tillis, and Carrie Underwood at the Stadium of Fire – 4th of July Celebration in Provo, Utah in front of over 50,000 people. Eric has been featured in America’s largest country music magazine, “Country Weekly” on several occasions, and on the popular website, Music News Nashville. He was also recognized as “New Country Star—Best Male Vocalist”. Eric has also appeared live on many television shows. While performing on Good Things Utah on ABC 4, he met the very popular author and website mentor, Marla Cilley (aka the FlyLady) of www.FlyLady.net. She was so impressed with his performance, she asked him to record a song Titled “Why Not Today” which prompted the release of Eric’s album titled “Why Not Today”. Since then, Eric has accompanied FlyLady to many of her nationwide events where he has performed and been welcomed by thousands. Eric has recorded many of his albums at OmniSound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked with the best producers, songwriters, and musicians. In March of 2006, his first radio single, “Anything for You” was released and hit #19 on the New Music Weekly-Independent Artists chart. His second Country album “Why Not Today” reached #3 on Amazons best seller list and his album, “A Christmas Wish” sold thousands worldwide in its first season released. His fourth album, “Home to Me” was released in April 2010.  Unplugged Journey was a limited release album and was released in November of 2011. A Fork In The Road, a collection of Broadway and other hit songs was release in August of 2012. In 2013 Eric produced his gospel Hymn CD titled Never Walk Alone and in 2014 Eric’s greatest Hit’s CD got released titled Ultimate Collection. In 2015 Eric wrote and released his signature self help book “Why Not Today? Face You Fears and Chase Your Dreams!” a book about creating the life you were meant to live. Eric Continues to produce and release new music and books to this day and has released 8 full length albums and 2 books to date. In 2013 Eric released his debut book called “Baby Steps to Music Industry Success.” It is a book about Eric’s journey and all the small steps he took that got him the music career and recognition he has today. Eric is also a member of the National Speakers Association where he gives musical keynote events across corporate America. Eric Dodge is a country boy at heart. When not on stage performing his favorite country songs, you can find him out riding horses or 4 wheelers or camping out at his family’s ranch. He loves anything outdoors including fishing and hiking. Summer, winter, spring or fall his favorite moments are sleeping outside by the campfire under the stars. From the brim of his hat to the tips of his boots, he is a true country boy.
