(00:00 - 06:22) - Soccer Saturday opens with the big news of the Indy 11's big win over the weekend where they scored a 4 - 0 victory over the Charleston Battery with the help of a red card three minutes into the match. (9:24 - 17:59) - Indy 11 Women's head coach Paul Dolinsky joins Rakestraw for the second segment. The 11 were head to head with Racing Louisville FC, the game settled at a 1 - 1 draw. It was their first time being down in a regular season game this season, but the team was fortunate enough to bring things to a draw before time expired in the second half. Four games into the regular season now and Dolinsky believes that the talent on this Women's 11 team has a lot of potential. The team is going to turn around and play Racing Louisville FC again as the away team, just three days after their home matchup. (21:00 - 29:31) - The halfway point of the program includes a replay of Rakestraw's interview earlier in the week with Brad Hauter as he was a part of the grounbreaking for 11 Park, the future home of the Indy 11. Hauter calls the experience surreal, finally getting to see years worth of work pay off and a bigger step towards their professional end goald being taken. Hauter details the future of Eleven Park as well as what it means for the organization in the short and long term. (32:30 - 42:18) - Head Coach for the Men's squad Mark Lowry comes on and breaks down the 11's impressive 4 - 0 win over the Charleston Battery last week. Lowry himself claims to have never seen a red-card penalty that quickly into a match in his career. Then Lowry has praise for Aodhan Quinn the team's penalty taker who managed to make two in that match. He says that Quinn has that "Under Pressure" personality where he can thrive in situations where most players would feel nervous. The team is still struggling with injuries, not just on the main roster but even academy players are injured making Lowry's job of roster management all the more difficult. (45:20 - 56:22) - Last on the show is the man himself, Aodhan Quinn joins the show. Quinn had two penalty goals last night, contibuting to the teams win and earning the squad 3 points. Quinn states the team has been focussing it on starting off quick and last nights opening penalty was the perfect quick start. Rakestraw wonders what makes Quinn the man for penalty shots and he responds that it is just a natural confidence he has on the pitch. While Quinn is supposed to have the weekend off, he has to get home and get straight into father duty as he has a 7 month old waiting at home. Finally, Rakestraw closes by asking Quinn his feeling on the groun breaking of Eleven Park. The program closes with Rakestraw breaking down the Premiere League's FA cup finals.

(00:00-01:31) – Greg Rakestraw is back with another edition of Soccer Saturday on The Fan. He opens the Best Eleven Moments show by updating you on if the Indy Eleven have any player news and wish you a Happy New Year. (04:33-21:51) – The countdown begins with moment 11, which is the entire month of April. The Indy Eleven rebounded off a less than stellar March with a defeat of last year's USL Champions Orange County. Moment 10 was Mark Lowry's mid-season roster flip, bringing in Jesus Vasquez, Juan Tejada, and Robby Dambrot along with other players all making a difference on the Eleven's season roster. Moment 9 is dedicated to just one player! Solomon Asante and his performance for the Eleven last season was standout and deserving of its own recognition on the countdown. Finally in this segment, Moment 8 is Indy's December transactions. It was announced that Cam Lindley would be returning to Indy for the 2023 season. Sebastian Guenzatti made it into this countdown at the last minute as his transaction was just finalized last week. (24:50-34:12) – Moment 7 is the specific date of July 9th, 2022. Otherwise known as the first double-header in Indy 11 history. The women's team played first getting a win over Detroit City FC, while the men fell short against Detroit City that same day. This was the last home game for the women's 10-0-2 season that year. Moment 6 features our first in-game highlight with Manuel Arteaga's first half hat-trick against the Charleston Battery. The last moment of this segment, moment 5, is another date. August 22nd being the date where the Indy Eleven broke their scoreless streak in a winning effort following twelve straight weeks without a victory. (37:13-49:07) – Moment 4 is the announcement of "Eleven Park." The construction of a soccer stadium will help legitimize the Indy Eleven's presence here in Indianapolis and in the USL as a whole. This segment sees Hauter dive deep into what his job entails on preparations for future seasons. Eleven Park is anticipated to open for the 2025 season. Moment 3 is the Indy Eleven's victory over Louisville in the Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest. (Or LIPAFC) The Eleven won the contest 2-1 following a draw in the teams prior meeting in Louisville that season. The last moment of this segment belongs to history as it is the women's Indy Eleven team and their debut in the W League of the USL. The women's team had a phenomenal debut season. While they finished the season in 10-0-2, the team made an even bigger contribution to the sport by opening up Indianapolis to women's soccer and featuring several Hoosier talents on the team (52:06-56:43) – The biggest moment of the year gets the final segment all to itself. Moment 1 is dedicated to El Capitan, Ayoze Garcia and his retirement form competitive football at the end of the season. The all-time leader in matches played, and assists was honored by his own team at the end of his career. Luckily enough for the organization, Garcia is staying with the organization post-retirement as an assistant coach for the Indy Eleven. The show concludes with Hauter recapping the 2022 season as well as his hopes for 2023. Final thanks from Greg Rakestraw as the show closes.

(0:00-7:34) Greg Rakestraw is back on 93.5 and 107.5 the Fan for this year's edition of the "Best of Soccer Saturday" for 2021. Greg dives into the eleven best things about 2021 starting with the Eleven's win over Louisville for the first time in three years by breaking down the matchups between the two teams this season. (10:35-20:44) In the second segment of this edition of best of 2021, Rakestraw touches on the fan experience at Indy Eleven games and the return to the Mike, a.k.a IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium, on the campus of IUPUI. Greg and Brad Hauter reminisce about the return to the "spiritual home" of the Eleven and how different it was compared to playing at Lucas Oil Stadium. More importantly, the fans were back in the stands for Eleven games heightening the experience at the Mike so much more. To round out the segment, the Indy Eleven will have a women's team in the W League, sponsored by the USL. (23:45-33:41) Greg gives some love to Manuel Arteaga, Nicky Law and Jared Timmer who made their debut with the club in 2021 and will be back in 2022. Rakestraw and Hauter provide some highlights from these three players and talk about what they each brought to the pitch this season. Arteaga was the goal leader for Indy in 2021 and both Law and Timmer were near the top of the club in terms of matches and minutes played. (36:42-44:05) Rakestraw and Hauter, two members of the Indy Eleven Century Club, a group of dedicated supporters to the club who have spent 100 matches or more with the club. Two new members were added to the group this season. (47:06-56:51) It wouldn't be a best of without touching on the Indy Eleven Academy's win in the first ever USL Academy Playoff Championship. Greg and Brad touch on how important a healthy youth system is for the club and why winning a championship on any level is infectious. The pair ends this edition of Best XI for 2021 with the only logical place to finish, the naming of Mark Lowry as the next head coach of the Indy Eleven.

Frackolopy: the Battle for the Future of Energy and the Enviornment (New Press) Over the past decade, a new and controversial energy extraction method known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has rocketed to the forefront of U.S. energy production. With fracking, millions of gallons of water, dangerous chemicals, and sand are injected under high pressure deep into the earth, fracturing hard rock to release oil and gas. A history of the fracking industry, Frackopoly exposes how more than 100 years of political influence peddling facilitated the control of our energy system by a handful of corporations and financial institutions. It provides the public policy backstory and the history of deregulation that has turned our communities into sacrifice zones. The book also examines the powerful interests that have supported fracking, including leading environmental groups, and looks at the growing movement to ban fracking and keep fossil fuels in the ground. Praise for Frackopoly “At this critical juncture in human history, Frackopoly is a must-read. Rich in history and science, it allows us to understand how we’ve got to this point and gives us the courage to continue the fight. Wenonah Hauter and Food & Water Watch were essential in legitimizing the call to ‘ban fracking’ across the United States. Her book is a powerful account of that vital necessary struggle and where we have to go from here.”—Josh Fox, director of Gasland and How to Let Go of the World (and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change) “Real life anti-fracking superhero Wenonah Hauter delivers the definitive story on how big oil and gas corporations captured our political system and schemed to frack America—and the growing grassroots movement to retake our democracy and protect our planet.”—Mark Ruffalo, actor, director, and advisory board member of Americans Against Fracking “Even though I have lived every chapter of this book, from beginning to end, I couldn’t, as a reader, put it down. What makes Frackopoly so riveting is not the economic evidence, public health data, and the political analysis—although that’s all here, too—but the brilliance of the author as the teller of this tragic-yet-hopeful tale. Wenonah Hauter is that rare narrator—a gifted writer and an environmental leader with a box seat in the public arena. A must-read for all who care about climate change, democracy, clean water, breathable air, and energy policy. Which is to say, all of us. Read this book and let your eyes be opened to the hoodwinking of America by the fracking industry.”—Sandra Steingraber, biologist and author of Living Downstream: An Ecologist’s Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment “A truly powerful manifesto about one of the greatest environmental fights on our planet today—from one of its greatest champions!”—Bill McKibben, environmentalist and author of Oil and Honey “A gripping and encyclopedic survey of the fracking menace, from the rise of a fossil-fueled U.S. oligarchy to the growing global wave of hard-won fracking bans. Hauter skillfully reveals fracking’s twin legacy: ghost towns, poisoned and quaking landscapes, and a scorching atmosphere on the one hand—and a remarkable wave of courage, resistance, and rising community power on the other.””—Naomi Klein, author of This Changes Everything andThe Shock Doctrine Reviews “Hauter delivers a passionate history and critique of the energy industry, from Standard Oil to Enron … [A] journalistic exposé of fracking outrages in which aggressive entrepreneurs in pursuit of profits wreak havoc on the land and poison the water.”– Kirkus Reviews “If Hauter had written this as a novel using the same characters, countries and global intrigue, it would quickly become an international bestseller and a miniseries would soon follow. She describes bigger-than-life captains of industry and colorful small-time scoundrels who play the system for their own gain. There are secret meetings and global conspiracies…a page turner.”—National Catholic Reporter Wenonah Hauter is an activist, author and progressive policy advocate. She is the founder and executive director of Food & Water Watch, an organization that, under her leadership, has fundamentally transformed the national debate about hydraulic fracturing (fracking), energy and the environment. Inspired by the works of his Academy Award-winning father, Ed Begley Jr.became an actor. He first came to audiences’ attention for his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series St. Elsewhere, for which he received six Emmy nominations. Since then, Ed has moved easily among feature, television and theatre projects. Ed co-starred in the Woody Allen movie Whatever Works with Larry David, as well as the Seth Rogan/Judd Apatow film Pineapple Express, and a number of Christopher Guest films, including A Mighty Wind, Best In Show and For Your Consideration. Other feature film credits include Batman Forever, The Accidental Tourist and The In-Laws.

Motivated by what she saw around her on her island Kaua’i, Andrea Brower embarked on a career of social and environmental justice. The largest pesticide companies in the world use Kaua’i and other islands in Hawaii to experiment with genetically engineered crops. Crops are created to either be herbicide resistant, or to create their own resistance.Monsanto, Dow, Dupont, Bayer, BASF and Syngenta all operate their research and development programmes there. Virtually every type of GM seed variety passes through Hawaii and is tested in open air field trials for their new technologies. This involves very high use of pesticides and herbicides. 15,000 acres of land on Kaua’i are used for this research.Ecological and health concerns are growing as a result of this continual onslaught of chemical residue which blows onto communities on as many as three hundred days a year.Last year Kaua'i passed a county law that would allow greater public disclosure of pesticide use, as well as modest no-spray protection zones around schools and other places where children live, learn and play. Now Dow, DuPont Pioneer and Syngenta have contested this  and filed a law suit against Kaua’i. Andrea began with a degree in environmental studies and feminism in California. Then she returned to Kaua’i to work with a non profit organization called Malama Kauai. Here she worked on issues of food, energy, economics and sustainability. Malama Kauai have community gardens and while there Andrea also looked at global systems, larger processes and structures that affected how they could operate even at this local level. This drove Andrea to study further and she attended Sussex University in the UK where she did her masters in International Development and the Environment. She is now working on her PHD at Auckland University’s sociology department where she is preparing a thesis on Social Movements that Change Food Systems.Andrea is most concerned about the capital structure that incentivises profit making  in scientific research around our food, and not for the public good. Now decades of research is finding genetically engineering highly unsuccessful so increasingly these companies are buying up conventional seeds .  It now seems almost unable for even small community gardens to be free of these corporate giants who aim to control global markets.Angela cites a book called Foodopoly .  In Foodopoly the author, Wenona Hauter, pulls the curtain back from the little-understood but vital realm of agricultural policy, showing how it has been hijacked by lobbyists, driving out independent farmers and food processors in favour of the likes of another GE giant Cargill, and Tyson, Kraft and ConAgra.  She demonstrates how the impacts ripple far and wide, from economic stagnation in rural communities at home, to famines overseas. In the end, Hauter argues that solving this crisis will require a complete structural shift—a change that is about politics, not just personal choice.Andrea talks passionately about this and her own research into our food systems. She is not convinced that the labeling of GE food is an answer, although important, as it just means good food for the elite market and is not an answer for those consumers who cannot afford good food. She is keen to see policies and economic structures changed to stop a handful of global companies controlling the food market. Some of these structures that need rolling include trade agreements, national policies, and laws that allow banks to speculate on the price of food. Changes are required to subsidy structures so they can support local and co-operative initiatives. Above all Andrea would like to see grassroots opposition to the corporatization of our food.A vivacious and intelligent young lady, Andrea Brower is has much to contribute and I really recommend that you listen closely to what she has to say. This programme was sponsored by The Awareness Party.

PNN's News Director Rick Spisak will interview Ms. Hauter regarding some of the threats to both our food and water resources. Wenonah Hauter is the Executive Director of Food & Water Watch. She has worked extensively on food, water, energy and environmental issues at the national, state and local level. Her book Foodopoly: The Battle Over the Future of Food and Farming in America examines the corporate consolidation and control over our food system and what it means for farmers and consumers.
