Both Moses and God are popularly thought of as the opposite of grace as portrayed in the Old Testament. Exodus 34 tells the story of a God who does measure out justice to his creation, but magnifies his grace far beyond measure. The difference is that of the life-horizons of an individual contrasted with countless generations. Dr. K. Lawson Younger is Emeritus Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His publications include A Political History of the Arameans: From their Origins to the End of Their Polities, which won the Biblical Archaeology Society 2017 Publication Award for Best Scholarly Book on Archaeology, and Ancient Conquest Accounts: A Study in Ancient Near Eastern and Biblical History Writing. The origin and payload of the rocket part were unclear, and the impact could help astronomers determine what it was. In October 2023, NASA launched three sounding rockets during the annular solar eclipse to study how the sudden drop in sunlight affects the upper atmosphere, especially the ionosphere. The ionosphere is where solar radiation ionizes gases, creating a sea of high-flying ions and electrons that can affect satellite communications5. The rockets measured the temperature, density, electric field, and magnetic field of the ionosphere before, during, and after the eclipse. The mission, called APEP, was named after the Egyptian deity of darkness. The same rockets will be relaunched in 2024 for the total solar eclipse. These stories are written because people are seeing things hitting the moon. We play Reese Fake Moon Landing The American flag planted on the moon looks like it is flapping in the wind, which is impossible in the vacuum of space. The shadows and lighting in the photos and videos are inconsistent, suggesting that they were taken in a studio with artificial sources. There are no stars visible in the sky, which is odd for a place with no atmosphere. The lunar module and the astronauts left no blast crater or dust trail when they landed or took off, indicating that they were not actually there. The technology and equipment used by the astronauts were too primitive or unreliable to survive the harsh conditions of space and the moon (looks fake). The radiation from the Van Allen belts and the sun would have killed or harmed the astronauts, unless they were protected by heavy shielding that was not present in the spacecraft. The moon rocks brought back by the astronauts are identical to some rocks found on Earth and petrified wood, implying that they were not from the moon. Obama's latest movie on Netflix about a terror attack is Leave the World Behind The movie was executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama through their Higher Ground Productions company, which has a multi-year deal with Netflix. Barack Obama also gave extensive notes to the director, based on his presidential experience and his love for movies, to make the film more realistic and empathetic. The movie is a psychological thriller that explores themes such as race, class, preppers, dumbed down tech heads and human nature in the face of a disaster. Our view, this is WEF predictive programing. What is crazy, you see Obama shirt saying obey next to another characters shirt NASA. But what is wild is USA Today whitewashed the shirt Obey in a news article. Biblical Cosmology Michael Heiser is a biblical scholar, author, and semitic languages expert who has studied and written about various aspects of biblical cosmology, such as the divine council, the sons of God, the nephilim, the watchers, the angelic rebellion, the cosmic geography, the unseen realm, etc. He has published several books and articles on these topics, such as The Unseen Realm, Reversing Hermon, Angels, Demons, and The Bible Unfiltered. We cover his presentation of what the Bible says about God's Creation. Now Heiser does not believe God's word on Biblical Cosmology is literal. He attained an MA in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA and PhD in the Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he minored in Classical studies.

What is the actual context behind the famous verse about the virgin giving birth to a son named “Emanuel”? This line comes from Isaiah, and the context opens up deeper layers of meaning. Episode: In this episode Mark and Chris talk with Dr. K. Lawson Younger (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) about the Contextual Approach and its benefits for interpreting Scripture with caution required to avoid the paradoxical dangers of "parallelomania" and "parallelophobia." Dr. Younger is an Assyriologist who also specializes on the Arameans, so naturally they had to pick his brain for info on the impact of the Assyrians and Arameans on ancient Israel, particularly during the Divided Monarchy. They also discuss the genre of ancient conquest accounts and how the book of Joshua fits that specific genre, an important interpretive aid to understanding Joshua.  Guest: (From the TIU website) Dr. K. Lawson Younger, Jr. (PhD. Sheffield University) is Professor of Old Testament, Semitic Languages, and Ancient Near Eastern History at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois. A specialist in Assyriology, Aramaic, and Hebrew Bible, Younger has published numerous works involving ancient Near Eastern texts and their relationship to the Hebrew Bible. He is the author of A Political History of the Arameans: From their Origins to the End of Their Polities (2016), the Winner of the Biblical Archaeology Society 2017 Publication Award for Best Scholarly Book on Archaeology. He is also the author of Ancient Conquest Accounts: A Study of Ancient Near Eastern and Biblical History Writing (1990), and The NIV Application Commentary for Judges, Ruth (2002). It's about rethinking what we thought we already knew about the Bible. It's about taking those things that have become entrenched in our mindset, and bringing them back to the table for a little chat.I'm taking a couple of weeks off to do some planning for the next year. You can use this time to do a few things. You can get caught up on your listening. Odds are you've missed some of the episodes along the way. The church and its charismatic founder, Mark Driscoll, had a promising start. But the perils of power, conflict, and Christian celebrity eroded and eventually shipwrecked both the preacher and his multimillion-dollar platform.https://www.churchcalledtov.org - Tragically, in recent years, Christians have gotten used to revelations of abuses of many kinds in our most respected churches. We need a better way. The sad truth is that churches of all shapes and sizes are susceptible to abuses of power, sexual abuse, and spiritual abuse. Abuses occur most frequently when Christians neglect to create a culture that resists abuse and promotes healing, safety, and spiritual growth. How do we keep these devastating events from repeating themselves? We need a map to get us from where we are today to where we ought to be as the body of Christ. That map is in a mysterious and beautiful little Hebrew word in Scripture that we translate “good,” the word tov. Thanks for a great year… and we'll see you back here in a couple of weeks with the first episode in 2022.Show Music:Intro/Outro - "Growth" by Armani Delos SantosTransition Music - produced by Jacob A. He completed his MDiv. at TEDS and also holds a BA from Moody Bible Institute and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.Eric begins with a recounting of his childhood in the mission field in central Africa, a time during which he grew to appreciate the spiritual benefits of the Old Testament. From that point onward, he was committed to helping the church understand it well. This leads into a discussion of Eric's course on the “Book of the Twelve,” commonly known as the “Minor Prophets,” and the most coherent reasons we have for reading them as a unified set of texts. There is also an insightful conversation about the eschatological vision of the prophets, and how one's relation to God determines where one stands in relation to such a vision. Eric also expatiates on the importance of focusing on the Hebrew text for interpretation, both in his work in Hosea and in his co-taught course on the Psalms with Dr. David Luy. Finally, Eric shares his wisdom about the benefits of getting a PhD., especially the kinds of intellectual virtues one is able to cultivate through the process.Along the way, listeners will discover… Who shot first, Han or Greedo, and why?Eric's favorite drink. What the prophets uniquely contribute to what we know about God, and what we'd lose without them.To learn more about Dr. Eric Tully, visit his faculty page, or explore one of his many books, whether his Hosea commentary, his introduction to textual criticism, or his forthcoming work on the prophets, due March 2022. The poetry in Scripture can be hard to understand. And, especially when it is embedded within a story, such as the Song of Deborah, we might be tempted to skip over it. It uses a lot of allusion and metaphor and is pregnant with imagery and historical detail. We would rather the author just "get to the point" and give us a bullet-point summary. However, to ignore the stylistic force of biblical poetry (or any biblical genre) is to miss out on some of the deep theological underpinnings of the text. In this episode, Dr. Michelle Knight, Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, discusses biblical poetry and literary sensitivity to the genres of Scripture. She and Dr. Dru Johnson zoom in on the Song of Deborah in Judges and the violence it seems to celebrate, then expand to discuss Joshua and Judges more broadly. They cover biblical characterization, how the New Testament authors draw on motifs in Judges, and even compare Joshua to a Marvel movie. In the end, they aim to encourage us toward both theological understanding and literary prowess when we read the Bible. I was being faithful to what I knew at the time. I was doing the best I knew how at the time. And God was so kind. I didn’t actually succeed in killing that poor church I was serving as pastor, but I did not realize how clunky, and academic, and technical and tedious and “non-Gospel-ly” my preaching was back then." "When I first started out in ministry I was very interested in the mechanics of the biblical text, what’s happening in the text, and that’s great. But that should have been left more in my study and translated more into preaching that would actually help people. Back then I was good as an educator. I was not good as a pastor and a helper and I didn’t even know the difference." "I start early in the week (with sermon preparation) because my mind needs time. And my mind needs multiple exposures to funnel down to a sermon by Sunday morning that will lift people up, that will put hope in their hearts and energy in their feet and steel in their spines and joy in their hearts. So it takes time and every day has a purpose." "A hospital visit is a part of sermon preparation. It’s a very significant part. It’s an essential part, along with everything else." "In preaching, the problem is not the Bible. The Bible is a resource. The problem is me and the underdeveloped man that I am, the underdeveloped understandings I bring to the text and to the people. And so sermon preparation, along with everything else is - in God’s mercy - a Ray expanding experience. I start out in the process as a small, narrow, unformed man with very vague concepts. And what happens is the Lord guides me, shepherds me through the week toward clarity, specificity, focus, intentionality and a greatly increased joy. Then I’m ready to preach." "If I am writing out a point in my sermon I have to stop and ask myself - “Ok Ray is this what you believe because you think it’s right or does this really help you?” And if I have to admit honestly that this doesn’t really help me, it’s just “formally obligatory” but personally not liberating, not energizing, then why am I saying it? I’m still not ready to preach if that’s where I am mentally." "A healthy church is a culture of liberation. Where we are helping one another get rid of these grave clothes that we have been wearing all our lives that have never helped us at all. The Lord called Lazarus back to life and then invited the others around him to join with him to unbind him and let him go. He didn’t say to Lazarus “tear off those grave clothes”." "A healthy church is a culture of liberation; where we are hearing the life-giving, resurrecting voice of Christ in the Gospel and helping one another to get free to live for Him and glorify Him as never before." "Powerful preaching is not just a captivating personality on stage with his Bible open. Powerful preaching is a whole congregation, a whole church, a whole community, which has - by God’s grace - stumbled it’s way into the life-giving power of Jesus through his voice in the Gospel and together they are not a culture of oppression, they are not a culture of shaming, they’re not cornering people, pressuring people, embarrassing people… that’s just the opposite of the Gospel and they know it. And the whole congregation is rejoicing to gather together on the Lord’s day to help one another, encourage one another, liberate one another, get rid of the vestiges of death that we’ve been lugging around all these years and we don’t want anymore." "When you have a pastor at the front of the church in the pulpit whose Bible is open so he has some authority and he is saying what the Bible says and he is preaching through a Gospel hermeneutic so that Jesus and His Gospel are every Sunday the Great Message, and the Holy Spirit is moving in power and the congregation knows what to do and how to respond and how not to respond - that’s very powerful."

In the second verse of the Book of Mormon, Nephi claims that he was engraving on gold plates “a record of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians.” Ever since this verse appeared in the first verses of the Book of Mormon, critics of the Church, and particularly of Joseph Smith and the book he translated, have been laughing themselves silly. For those with a knowledge of linguistics and who have studied the lifetime work of linguistic scholar Brian Stubbs of Blanding, Utah, aren't laughing so loudly anymore. For three decades Stubbs has been making a comparative analysis of ancient Semitic languages of the Middle East, particularly Egyptian, Aramaic and Hebrew and their relationship to 30 different languages in the Uto-Aztecan language group spoken by Native Americans in the American Southwest, (the U.S. and Mexico) and has discovered some amazing similarities. Specifically, his findings in two books conclude that 40 percent pf the vocabulary of these Native American languages can be attributed to having Semitic roots. By comparison, Yiddish, a Germanic dialect spoken by Ashakanazi Jews in Eastern Europe only contains 15 percent of its vocabulary from Hebrew! In this podcast of Latter Day Radio that was first broadcast on KLO 1430am in Salt Lake City in 2018, Stubbs details his work and concludes that statistically speaking, these American Indian tribes got their language from the Middle East, substantiating Joseph Smith's claim. Listen and you decide.

The Enneagram is a great tool for discovering why we feel the way we feel, act the way we act, and think the way we think.  For Fives, who are unconsciously motivated by Avarice (or Greed), the Enneagram can help identify when fear begins to take over and they are operating with a perpetual scarcity mentality.  On auto-pilot, Fives can be inclined to disassociate and observe from a distance, rather than jumping in and participating in life.  In today’s episode, Tim Mackie and Jon Collins from The Bible Project, discuss how the Enneagram has helped them tackle undiscovered territory in their own temperaments and value systems, and how learning to name, pay attention to, and honor these parts of their personality has allowed them to release control of different parts of their lives and receive every part of what each day brings. Do you have many theological questions that nobody seems to be answering for you? You're not alone. Mike Heiser, our special guest today, has met many people who have questions that pastors and theologians don't have the answers to, or simply don't have the time to explain. Tune into today's episode of Are You Real to hear some of those questions and finally get some answers.  Mike earned his PhD in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Before going to the UW-Madison, Mike earned an M.A. in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania (major fields were Ancient Israel and Egyptology), and another M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Hebrew Studies).  He also attended Dallas Theological Seminary.  Mike's undergraduate degree is from Bob Jones University, but he also attended Bible college for three years.   Mike has an active ministry to people whose worldview is molded by occult, paranormal, and esoteric beliefs.  He observed that many who have adopted “alternative” worldviews were formerly traditional theists and Christians who left the faith when their questions on difficult passages and topics went unanswered, or when spiritual leaders failed to address experiences they had had.  Mike seeks to fill these gaps as a Christian scholar and has become well known in these circles through writing, speaking, and numerous radio appearances.    What you'll hear in this episode: A little bit about Mike Heiser and his past When Mike really started to understand the Bible and what it says  The first thing Mike taught that offended people How mythology and pop culture ties into the Bible and Mike's book “Supernatural” Why are there so many “bad things” in our world? Welcome to the Shaun Tabatt Show! Today my special guest is Dr. Michael S. Heiser and we're talking about his book The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible (Lexham Press, 2015). About The Book: In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of Scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's Word. Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her? How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood? Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his Angel together in his prayer? Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over? In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions? Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits? Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership? Who are the glorious ones that even angels dare not rebuke? After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again. About The Author: Michael Heiser is a scholar in the fields of biblical studies and the ancient Near East, and he is a Scholar-in-Residence at Faithlife, the makers of Logos Bible Software. Michael has an MA in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania, and he has an MA in Hebrew Studies and a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Many evangelical Christians have buckled down to study apologetics or biblical studies in just that spirit—and wound up not professing any more! Their stories are often eerily similar yet always fascinating! And such a delver was Jaco Gericke. First he read the "safe" stuff, then the books they warned him not to read, and then everything else! Today Dr. Gericke is on the faculty of Humanities at North-West University in South Africa. He holds the Doctor of Letters degree in Semitic Languages and a Ph.D. in Old Testament with a specialization in Philosophy of Religion.
