The red planet. The fourth rock from the sun. So, it made sense when we started to make plans for space travel, Mars would figure prominently into those plans. As far back as the inception of both the Soviet and American space programs in the late 1950s and early 1960s, space scientist started making plans to explore Mars. By July 4, 1997, NASA was able to land a spacecraft on Mars.  The Mars Pathfinder was launched on December 4th 1996. Six months later, it landed on Mars. The unit featured the first-ever robotic rover that sent an unprecedented amount of data on the planet back to scientists at NASA. After that, there were other missions, which included Mars orbiters, landers, and excavators.  And the United States hasn't been the only country working to explore the planet. The Soviet Union, then Russia, then China, then India, and even the United Arab Emirates have launched missions to Mars. Each time, we learn something new and something significant about Mars. But in the end, there is one question that continues to drive mankind's quest to visit Mars. Is there life on that planet, and if so, what does it look like? At Marshall, Dr. Green developed and managed the Space Physics Analysis Network, which provided many scientists, all over the world, with rapid access to data, other scientists, and specific NASA computer and information resources. In addition, Dr. Green was a safety diver in the Neutral Buoyancy tank making over 150 dives until he left MSFC in 1985. From 1985 to 1992 he was the Head of the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The NSSDC is NASA's largest space science data archive. In 1992 he became the Chief of the Space Science Data Operations Office until 2005 when he became the Chief of the Science Proposal Support Office. While at GSFC, Dr. Green was also co-investigator and the Deputy Project Scientist on the Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration (IMAGE) mission. From 1992 to 2000 he was also the Deputy Project Scientist for Mission Operations and Data Analysis for the Global Geospace Science Missions WIND and POLAR. He has written over 110 scientific articles in referred journals involving various aspects of the Earth's and Jupiter's magnetospheres and over 50 technical articles on various aspects of data systems and computer networks. From August 2006 to April 2018 Dr. Green was the Director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters. Estimating effective wind speed from Gemini Planet Imager's adaptive optics data using covariance maps by Daniel M. Levinstein et al. on Wednesday 30 November The Earth's turbulent atmosphere results in speckled and blurred images of astronomical objects when observed by ground based visible and near-infrared telescopes. Adaptive optics (AO) systems are employed to reduce these atmospheric effects by using wavefront sensors (WFS) and deformable mirrors. Some AO systems are not fast enough to correct for strong, fast, high turbulence wind layers leading to the wind butterfly effect, or wind-driven halo, reducing contrast capabilities in coronagraphic images. Estimating the effective wind speed of the atmosphere allows us to calculate the atmospheric coherence time. This is not only an important parameter to understand for site characterization but could be used to help remove the wind butterfly in post processing. Here we present a method for estimating the atmospheric effective wind speed from spatio-temporal covariance maps generated from pseudo open-loop (POL) WFS data. POL WFS data is used as it aims to reconstruct the full wavefront information when operating in closed-loop. The covariance maps show how different atmospheric turbulent layers traverse the telescope. Our method successfully recovered the effective wind speed from simulated WFS data generated with the soapy python library. The simulated atmospheric turbulence profiles consist of two turbulent layers of ranging strengths and velocities. The method has also been applied to Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) AO WFS data. This gives insight into how the effective wind speed can affect the wind-driven halo seen in the AO image point spread function. Pour ce trente-quatrième épisode, mon invitée est Féebrile, photographe. Féebrile est arrivée à la photographie un peu par hasard à la fin de l'adolescence. Dès le début de sa pratique, elle a développé un intérêt pour mettre en scène des images sombres et mystérieuses qui stimulent l'imagination. Nous avons parlé de son parcours d'autodidacte ainsi que de ses affinités avec d'autres médiums comme la vidéo, l'écriture et la musique. Elle m'a expliqué le processus créatif qui l'amène à faire naître une photo. Présente sur internet depuis une quinzaine d'années, Féebrile a développé sa pratique à travers les rencontres et les retours qu'elle a pu obtenir par ce biais. Nested Dust Shells around the Wolf-Rayet Binary WR 140 observed with JWST by Ryan M. Lau et al. on Thursday 13 October Massive colliding-wind binaries that host a Wolf-Rayet (WR) star present a potentially important source of dust and chemical enrichment in the interstellar medium (ISM). However, the chemical composition and survival of dust formed from such systems is not well understood. The carbon-rich WR (WC) binary WR~140 presents an ideal astrophysical laboratory for investigating these questions given its well-defined orbital period and predictable dust-formation episodes every 7.93 years around periastron passage. We present observations from our Early Release Science program (ERS1349) with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) Medium-Resolution Spectrometer (MRS) and Imager that reveal the spectral and spatial signatures of nested circumstellar dust shells around WR~140. MIRI MRS spectroscopy of the second dust shell and Imager detections of over 17 shells formed throughout the past $gtrsim130$ years confirm the survival of carbonaceous dust grains from WR~140 that are likely carriers of "unidentified infrared" (UIR)-band features at 6.4 and 7.7 $mu$m. Extracting the Heliographic Coordinates of Coronal Rays using Images from WISPR Parker Solar Probe by P. C. Liewer et al. on Wednesday 07 September The Wide-field Imager for Solar Probe (WISPR) onboard Parker Solar Probe (PSP), observing in white light, has a fixed angular field of view, extending from 13.5 degree to 108 degree from the Sun and approximately 50 degree in the transverse direction. In January 2021, on its seventh orbit, PSP crossed the heliospheric current sheet (HCS) near perihelion at a distance of 20 solar radii. At this time, WISPR observed a broad band of highly variable solar wind and multiple coronal rays. For six days around perihelion, PSP was moving with an angular velocity exceeding that of the Sun. During this period, WISPR was able to image coronal rays as PSP approached and then passed under or over them. We have developed a technique for using the multiple viewpoints of the coronal rays to determine their location (longitude and latitude) in a heliocentric coordinate system and used the technique to determine the coordinates of three coronal rays. The technique was validated by comparing the results to observations of the coronal rays from Solar and Heliophysics Observatory (SOHO) / Large Angle and Spectrometric COronagraph (LASCO)/C3 and Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO)-A/COR2. Comparison of the rays' locations were also made with the HCS predicted by a 3D MHD model. Cuando comencé a trastear con la Raspberry había algo que me daba mucha pereza y era la configuración y puesta en marcha. Pero no todo el proceso en concreto, solo la parte en la que tenías que conectar la Raspberry a un monitor para poder configurarla. Esto me daba una pereza que no es normal. ¿Porque era necesario esto?. Luego, como comentaré mas adelante descubrí que era posible obviar estos pasos. Pero ahora desde las opciones ocultas de Raspberry Pi Imager, todo esto se ha hecho mas sencillo. Y es que esto de las opciones ocultas de Raspberry Pi Imager, es algo que debería considerar otras herramientas y entornos de escritorio, refiriéndome en este caso a GNOME Shell. Y es que, entiendo que se quiera dar una experiencia de usuario minimalista, pero, para aquellos usuarios mas avanzados, o que quieren algo mas debería existir algo, como lo que hace Raspberry Pi Imager. ... After that, there were other missions, which included Mars orbiters, landers, and excavators.  And the United States hasn't been the only country working to explore the planet. The Soviet Union, then Russia, then China, then India, and even the United Arab Emirates have launched missions to Mars. Each time, we learn something new and something significant about Mars. But in the end, there is one question that continues to drive mankind's quest to visit Mars. Is there life on that planet, and if so, what does it look like? At Marshall, Dr. Green developed and managed the Space Physics Analysis Network, which provided many scientists, all over the world, with rapid access to data, other scientists, and specific NASA computer and information resources. In addition, Dr. Green was a safety diver in the Neutral Buoyancy tank making over 150 dives until he left MSFC in 1985. From 1985 to 1992 he was the Head of the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The NSSDC is NASA's largest space science data archive. In 1992 he became the Chief of the Space Science Data Operations Office until 2005 when he became the Chief of the Science Proposal Support Office. While at GSFC, Dr. Green was also co-investigator and the Deputy Project Scientist on the Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration (IMAGE) mission. From 1992 to 2000 he was also the Deputy Project Scientist for Mission Operations and Data Analysis for the Global Geospace Science Missions WIND and POLAR. He has written over 110 scientific articles in referred journals involving various aspects of the Earth's and Jupiter's magnetospheres and over 50 technical articles on various aspects of data systems and computer networks. From August 2006 to April 2018 Dr. Green was the Director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters. Today is Day 1491 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, on our Worldview Wednesday episode, we will continue our study based on a course I recently completed taught by Dr. Michael Heiser. Our study is titled “Sons and Daughters of God: The Believer's Identity, Calling, and Destiny” Throughout this multi-week course, we will demonstrate that, in the Old Testament, “sons of God” and “holy ones” refers to supernatural beings whose Father is God and who work with God to carry out His will and that this divine family was present before humanity. By fully engaging with biblical texts such as Psalm 82; Psalm 89, and Deuteronomy 32:8–9, our study will show that this divine family functions as a template for God's human family. God desires of humans, as His imagers, to participate in His council. This study addresses issues such as polytheism, the nature of the (little ‘g') “gods,” and Yahweh's uniqueness. This study will apply insights to the New Testament texts and show how the metaphor of being in God's family informs our sense of identity and mission as believers. Imager – A God-Breathed United Council·      Segment 24: Humans Animated by the Breath of God Introduction Last week we left off talking about the one outlier in our list of candidates for what the ‘image of God' idea might be: the possession of a soul, soul/spirit. People use different terminology; we're not worried about parsing the terms necessarily here, and you'll quickly see why. Animals Like Humans If we're going to go with biblical language, the idea of having a “soul” is having a nephesh. In Genesis 2:7—this is when God breathes into the man, into Adam, and he becomes a living soul—the Hebrew there is the nephesh chayyah. That's biblical language. It turns out, though, that if you go back to Genesis 1:21, we read this: “So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves. [the term there is ‘every nephesh hachayyah']” So animals and humans are described with the same terminology with respect to the “soulishness” of each of them. What it refers to—the nephesh chayyah in both passages—is a reference to this sort of animate life that we sort of know and experience. I can look at my dog and know that my dog is an animate life form. It looks at me. Something is going on up there in the head. It moves around; it makes decisions, so on and so forth. It decides to go into that room or this room. That's what animate life is. Animals and humans are both described with the same vocabulary in the Hebrew Bible. Animals also have a ruach. So for those who want to say, “Well, the nephesh is different than the ruach; the soul is different than the spirit,” we have a problem there too. Ecclesiastes 3:21 has animals possessing a ruach; it's the same word for “spirit” used of humans.  Nephesh and Ruach Interchangeable The problem becomes even more than that. If you studied the terms, you would discover that ‘nephesh' is often translated “soul” in English Bibles, and “spirit” comes from the Hebrew ‘ruach.' If you studied both of those Hebrew terms, you would learn very quickly that they are used...

Being An Imager Of God·      Segment 22: Plurality Language IntroductionThe question before us is: How does the plural language of https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+1%3A26&version=NLT (Genesis 1:26) link God and humankind and the members of the heavenly host, the members of God's council, as it were, together? Let me read that verse again as we begin today. Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” This is going to take a bit of abstract thinking for us. The plurality is important. To understand why it's important, though, we need to understand specifically the concept of the image of God, or as you'll hear me say, “the concept of imaging God.” RepresentationI will front-load a little bit of the perspective that we'll be getting into here. It's going to have something to do with representing God. We represent God in a specific way in our realm, the earthly realm, and spiritual beings represent God in their realm in whatever way God wants them to as well. So upfront, let's try to keep the idea of representation in mind, and that's going to be integral to this whole concept of the image of God. Avant d'être le nom du trou noir supermassif de notre galaxie, Sgr A est avant tout une source de rayonnement radio, qui est produite par l'entourage très proche de ce trou noir à qui on a donné le nom après coup. Imager la source radio Sgr A avec une toujours plus grande précision va permettre à terme d'apercevoir la silhouette du trou noir. L'image obtenue aujourd'hui est un des jalons importants de cette quête car elle donne des indices précieux sur la géométrie de l'engin sous-jacent.

NASA lost contact with IMAGE in 2005, and 12 years later, 47 year old Scott Tilley spotted it while searching for the Zuma spy satellite that was lost after SpaceX’s last launch. The crazy part was, it was still transmitting! Great news for NASA, Awesome discovery for Scott Tilley. Next, Russia offers tourists SpaceWalks for $100 million. Lastly, on  Tuesday February 6th at 1:30pm, SpaceX will launch it’s Falcon Heavy Rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida. For those who don’t know, SpaceX is revolutionizing Space Flight by making Space more affordable. They Launch payloads into Space or to the international Space Station, then they land their rocket booster back on earth to reuse. The Falcon Heavy has 3 Rocket boosters with 27 total engines on it and SpaceX has confirmed that they intend to land all 3 back on Earth for reuse.     Where did Space, But Messier get it’s name? This thesis presents an observational study of one of the nearest star-forming regions, the ρ Ophiuchi cluster, with the goal of characterising stellar activity in young stellar objects. Variability is a common characteristic of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars and originates from mechanisms related to magnetic fields, accretion discs, and circumstellar extinction. Variability surveys in the infrared (IR) can probe stellar and circumstellar environments and provide information about the dynamics of the on going magnetic and accretion processes. To this end, a large-field (∼0.8 deg2), near-IR photometric survey of ρ Ophiuchi has been conducted using the Wide Field Camera (WFCAM) at the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT), which monitored the cluster over 14 nights in two consecutive years. Statistical tools, such as the multi-band cross correlation index and the reduced chi-square, were used to disentangle signals of variability from noise. Variability in the near-IR is found to be present in half of the known population of ρ Ophiuchi. The behaviours shown are several and can be associated with the existence of spots on the stellar surface, variations in circumstellar extinction, or changes in the geometry of an accretion disc. Furthermore, this thesis explores the feasibility of using photometric variability as a criterion for selection of new low-luminosity candidates of galactic star forming regions down to very low masses. The use of this new selection method could help remove the biases from other techniques. For example, it has the advantage of identifying young sources that do not show IR-excess or have small Hα emission. The use of this relatively new technique should contribute significantly to obtain a full census of the young objects in star formation regions, which remains one of the most important goals of galactic star formation studies. Using variability, a new population of objects has been uncovered, that is believed to be part of the ρ Ophiuchi cluster. Using low-resolution near-IR spectroscopy, 4 candidate members have been confirmed as PMS stars. Finally, the survey presented in this thesis is the first of its kind in the IR, both in large area surveyed and sensitivity, taking advantage of recent developments in IR astronomical instrumentation. Of future relevance for IR variability studies is the new IR-imager at the Very Large Telesope (VLT), HAWK-I (High-Acuity Wide-field K band Imager), the most advanced IR camera on an 8-meter telescope at the present moment. The instrument was assembled and commissioned during the progress of this thesis, and is presented here, giving emphasis to the contribution of the author to the project.
