Do you believe in soulmates? How do you find "The One?"  -- that one true love of your life?  It seems so challenging at times that there must be some sort of secret code, right?  Well, here to demystify the process is relationship expert Katherine Woodward Thomas.  She talks about the dynamics of healthy relationships and how to set intentions in that direction. She also examines what happens when people divorce (especially through the court system). She explains how it IS possible, if things don't work out, to "consciously uncouple."  She notes that the "happily-ever-after" myth was invented just 400 years ago when people had much shorter life spans. Katherine Woodward Thomas, M.A., MFT is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Conscious Uncoupling: 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After" and the national bestseller, "Calling in "The One:" 7 Weeks to Attract the Love of Your Life." She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist. Katherine is the originator of the "Conscious Uncoupling" process as well as creator of the "Calling in 'The One:' 49 Days to Love" online course. What if you knew you held the power of destiny in your hands and could create your own vibrant future? Do you want to radically change your life for the better? According to today's guest, best-selling author Katherine Woodward Thomas, M.A., MFT, it is indeed possible! Katherine is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Conscious Uncoupling: 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After," and the national bestseller, "Calling in "The One:" 7 Weeks to Attract the Love of Your Life." She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and has taught thousands of people worldwide.     Today Katherine explains a very powerful technique whereby you look to your ideal future, then live from that future backward. She invites us to ask ourselves, "Who am I called to become," then begin living from that place. Who would you need to be now to become that person? She explains how we can start from the future, to essentially create that future by practicing acting as our possible self. What's possible? What do you need to let go of? She further discusses how this is different from hope. It's about purposefully living through intention and alignment. Katherine teaches us that it is possible to evolve beyond our painful past and truly create a life we love! She discusses these ideas in free online webinars. We are heartbroken to share that since recording this interview, Katherine Woodward Thomas has passed. In January, Krista had the gift of sitting down with Katherine for this conversation, and we feel deeply blessed to share her wisdom, presence, and legacy with this community. You've likely seen movies that depict someone having an accident and getting amnesia, not being able to remember any, or aspects, of their past. Imagine waking today and you know everything about yourself in the present moment, and are even aware of what you do and your future. But you can't remember any of the hurts and pains and disappointments of your past. Who and how would you be? This isn't possible of course, and I for one don't want to forget the past, but my guest in this episode is really calling us to detach from how much we let the past handicap us. Truly, through our memories alone, we inadvertently let the past limit us. My guest is renowned therapist, Katherine Woodward Thomas. Katherine was the New York Times bestselling author of Calling in “The One” and Conscious Uncoupling. She is literally credited with teaching hundreds of thousands of people in her virtual and in-person programs, and also trained thousands of other professional therapists in her methods. I can't believe how many people who have read and followed Katherine's counsel. Her brand new book is, What's True About You: 7 Steps to Move Beyond Your Painful Past and Manifest Your Brightest Future. At the end of her career, this is the climactic message she wanted to bring the world. I had the distinct honor of talking with Katherine on March 30th, 2026. We had previously rescheduled due to her treatments regarding late stage ovarian cancer. On April 27, not even a month after our conversation, Katherine passed away. She knew the cancer was serious, but as she told me, she was doing everything possible to fight it, and was hopeful. Katherine and I really connected, and were planning on following up together about a project I'm working on. We traded text messages and I inspired myself to think of collaborating with not only a profoundly accomplished and influential professional in the self-help space, but with someone I experienced as a truly bright light and tender, insightful soul. I'd like to think now that our conversation that follows was influenced by the mysteries of her leaving this earth only 28 days later. I ask you to tune in with special attention and an open spirit to what Katherine has to offer us regarding truly letting go of the past constructs of ourselves that we are holding onto and believing in and keeping us from progressing in the miracle that is our lives. We like to believe we know who we are. But what if the version of yourself you’ve been living as… isn’t actually you? In this episode of Question Everything, Danielle sits down with bestselling author and therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas to explore the hidden stories shaping our identities, our relationships, and the patterns we can’t seem to break. Katherine, best known for coining the term “conscious uncoupling,” is back with a deeper question: not just how we separate from others, but how we separate from the outdated versions of ourselves we’ve been living inside. This conversation challenges the idea that healing is only about looking backward, and introduces a new way of thinking about identity, growth, and what it actually takes to change your life. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why you may still be living inside a story you formed as a child The concept of “source fracture stories” and how they shape your identity Why many self-help approaches keep us stuck in analysis instead of actual transformation How we can recreate our biggest wounds in present-day relationships The subtle ways we reinforce beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not wanted” A simple practice for speaking to yourself in a way that interrupts anxiety and spiraling How to recognize when you’re operating from reaction vs. consciously creating your life Why healing isn’t just about understanding your past, but changing your future The difference between your “wounded self” and your “wise self” How to interrupt emotional patterns in real time with one simple question Why Katherine says beliefs are formed in relationships, and must be transformed in them The role of identity in manifestation Tools for understand what you are uniquely coded for How to begin shifting into a new version of yourself The power of asking: What am I assuming is true? She was so deep in binge eating disorder that she became unemployable, non-functional, unable to move forward in life. So she did what you're supposed to do: therapy, 12-step programs, eventually becoming a psychotherapist herself. She spent over a decade analyzing why she was the way she was, helping other people do the same. And here's what she discovered that changed everything: understanding your past saves your life, but staying there won't change it. She realized around age 40 that she'd been solidifying her wounded identity by constantly focusing on it. The breakthrough came when she understood that it's the future that actually pulls us forward, not the past. What makes this conversation so powerful is how Katherine explains the hidden mechanism that keeps us stuck. When you believe you're not good enough, you over-function and over-give, which actually trains people to undervalue you. When you believe you're invisible, you can't even recognize your own needs, let alone bring them to others. When you believe you're not safe, you create push-pull dynamics that keep love at arm's length. We're unconsciously enrolling others in validating our deepest wounds through how we show up. Katherine's approach flips the script: start with who you need to become for your positive possible future, then clear what's blocking that path. She'll walk you through how to differentiate your wise self from your wounded self, how to stop letting your younger parts drive the car, and how to finally break free from the patterns that have been running your life.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode, I sit down with Ali Ryan, a trauma-informed embodiment coach and clinical nurse hypnotist, to talk about something we don't discuss enough: friend breakups.    I just went through one myself, and even as a relationship coach, I needed support and guidance, so I was up at 1 am googling, what are the steps in Conscious Uncoupling? And they were SO HELPFUL!    I share some of my process in my conversation with Ali and was so delighted to hear her insights!    On this episode, we explore conscious uncoupling (not just for romantic relationships!), how to have what I call a "loving ending" that honors the past while acknowledging when something needs to end, and why we don't have to make someone right or wrong when a relationship evolves.  This conversation is for anyone navigating the end of a friendship and wanting to do it with grace, integrity, and love. ✨ Episode at a Glance What conscious uncoupling really means beyond the buzzword Why we need to normalize talking about friend breakups The five steps of conscious uncoupling and how they apply to friendships How to stay out of survival brain when a relationship needs to end Why our society conditions us to be unconscious in both coupling and uncoupling The power of allowing relationships to evolve without making anyone wrong RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: The Questions for Couples Journal Private Coaching with Maggie The Growth Gap - Free Workshop Ali's Instagram: @ali_ryan__ Ali's Website: www.aliryancoaching.com  Katherine Woodward Thomas (creator of Conscious Uncoupling framework)

We've been taught that a successful marriage means staying together — but what if true healing begins when a relationship ends? In this eye-opening episode of HEAL with Kelly, I sit down with Katherine Woodward Thomas, New York Times bestselling author of "Calling in The One” and "Conscious Uncoupling," to reimagine how we love, separate, and heal. With deep wisdom and lived experience, Katherine challenges the myth of “forever” and shares why the end of a relationship isn't a failure — it can be a soul-level initiation into your power, truth, and capacity to love more fully. She opens up about her personal journey — from manifesting a miracle love and having a child at 43, to consciously uncoupling a decade later and facing the shame and social stigma that often follow divorce. Especially as someone who inspired millions to Call in The One.  With compassion and candor, she dismantles the outdated belief that “if it didn't last, it wasn't real,” and offers practices like the soul-to-soul meditation to help reclaim your worth and release lingering ties. We also explore how early attachment wounds create source fracture stories — core identity beliefs like “I'm alone” or “I'll never get my needs met” — that unconsciously shape our relationship patterns. Katherine shares how true transformation requires more than just healing the past; it asks us to align with the future we're being called into. Through intention, self-leadership, and the willingness to become who you need to be for what you truly desire, lasting change becomes possible. If you're ready to heal from heartbreak, reclaim your power, or simply love more consciously within your current relationship, this conversation is for you. Chapter 1What is Calling in "The One"Once upon a time, there was a woman named Sarah who had been searching for love without success. Feeling lost and discouraged, she stumbled upon a book called "Calling in The One" by Katherine Woodward Thomas. As she delved into its pages, Sarah learned about the power of inner work and self-love in attracting her soulmate.Through Thomas' guidance, Sarah was able to release past hurts, limiting beliefs, and patterns that were blocking her from finding true love. She discovered that by embodying the qualities she sought in a partner, she could manifest a loving and fulfilling relationship. With each chapter, Sarah felt more empowered and optimistic about her romantic future. By the end of the book, she had transformed her love life and found the one she had been calling in all along - herself."Calling in The One" taught Sarah that true love begins within and that by embracing self-love, she could attract the love she truly deserved.Chapter 2 Meet the Writer of Calling in "The One"Relying on her well-honed writing skills, Katherine Woodward Thomas employs a smooth and engaging language style in "Calling in The One" to effectively convey the complex emotions and profound meanings surrounding finding love. By using concise words, she captures the essence of the transformative journey towards self-discovery and attracting an ideal partner. Thomas skillfully navigates through the depths of human emotions, offering relatable insights and practical advice in a way that resonates with readers on a deep level. Her strategic language choices evoke empathy, inspiration, and empowerment, creating a sense of connection and hope for those embarking on their own path to love. Through her mastery of language and storytelling, Thomas invites readers to explore their own beliefs, challenges, and desires, ultimately guiding them towards a more fulfilling and authentic experience of love.Chapter 3 Deeper Understanding of Calling in "The One"The concept of calling in "The One" has had a significant impact on literature, culture, and society. The idea that there is a predestined soulmate or perfect match out there for each person has captivated people's imaginations for centuries. It has inspired countless works of literature, from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to modern romance novels. In popular culture, the notion of finding "The One" has been perpetuated by romantic comedies, love songs, and dating apps. People often talk about finding their soulmate or perfect match, and many believe that there is someone out there who is meant for them. This idea has also had a profound influence on society's views on love and relationships. It has helped shape societal norms around dating, marriage, and commitment. The idea of finding "The One" has created a sense of hope and possibility for many people, driving them to seek out their perfect partner. However, the concept of calling in "The One" has also been criticized for perpetuating unrealistic expectations and putting pressure on individuals to find their soulmate. Some argue that this belief can be harmful, leading people to overlook valuable relationships or stay in unhealthy ones in pursuit of the elusive perfect match.Overall, the influence of calling in "The One" on literature, culture, and society has been significant, shaping people's beliefs and attitudes towards love and relationships. It continues to be a powerful force in shaping the way we think about finding love and connection in today's world.Chapter 4 Other Accessible Resources1. In this Language of Love session, I have a chat with Trina, who has been through some really tough times in her past relationships, facing big losses and struggles. She opens up about the toxic relationships and challenges she's been dealing with as she tries to rebuild her life. I emphasized how important it is for Trina to take the time to be single, rebuild and move deeper into love and accept herself before thinking about jumping into a new relationship. It's like building a strong foundation for a house - if you rush past this phase of post-relationship healing, you just make the same mistakes again and again. I suggest that she goes on a journey of self-discovery and self-love, one that's all about what she wants, not what others expect. After all, loving ourselves and understanding our own worth is the first step toward attracting the love we truly deserve. In this episode, we're diving into: The concept of vibrational frequency and how embracing our divine feminine power can attract the right kind of partner into our lives The impact of deep-rooted traumas and subconscious fears in our interpersonal relationships The importance of having a support system and holding oneself accountable Why setting boundaries is a vital component in healthy relationships Be sure to explore Calling in the One by my good friend Katherine Woodward Thomas! It's a fantastic resource for anyone looking to prepare themselves for love.  Visit my website to explore my range of books and courses on love, sex, and relationships, and be sure to tune in regularly to the Language of Love podcast for thought-provoking discussions and invaluable advice aimed at helping you love and be loved better. “They're holding you in that false narrative probably because you've enrolled them into that story. You know, we're always informing other people who we are. So if I have a story, ‘I'm not good enough,' there's all sorts of ways that I'm going show up as, ‘I'm inferior and they're better than me,' so when they leave because of that, it's validating the old story. So you have to go in and do this correction on a soul level.” Katherine Woodward Thomas joins me in today's episode about Conscious Uncoupling. Katherine is the bestselling author of Conscious Uncoupling and an award-winning marriage and family psychotherapist. We discuss changing the definition of success from longevity, the pain of detaching, how we've been doing divorce wrong, conscious uncoupling without our partner's participation, transforming difficult emotions, curating an empowering narrative, breaking our patterns, creating a positive future, building a new life, and rituals for uncoupling.
