Kevin emphasizes the need for internal champions and external agitators to drive meaningful change. The episode highlights the growing network of organizations like Catapult working to create innovative pathways for students, moving beyond traditional education models. Key takeaways include the importance of mindset in pushing through resistance, the increasing support for alternative education programs, and the power of small changes in language and approach to have a significant impact. Episode 30:  What do you want to be when you grow up?  It's a question we've all answered when we were young, but how many of us really knew what all of the options were back then?  The department of labor claims there are about 950 jobs that exist, some of them far beyond the imagination of a 5 year old.  My guest today, Dr. Kevin Fleming, is on a mission to broaden the imagination of people of all ages when it comes to career options so they can live lives that are both financially and emotionally fulfilling.  Kevin is a national speaker, best-selling author, and the CEO of Catapult, a company that offers dynamic and impactful professional development masterclasses for educational institutions.  In our conversation we touch on what it means to be underemployed vs. unemployed, and why a four-year college plan is not always the right educational choice for everyone.  We also discuss program marketing and Kevin's children's book There's a Hat for That!: Exploring Careers That Fit You Best, that encourages exploration towards activities that align with a child's personality and points them towards satisfying and meaningful careers.  It's a super fun episode that I think you will really enjoy!

Kevin Fleming is the CFO at Elder HQ, a UK-based company working to revolutionize eldercare by providing an alternative to traditional residential care homes.Since starting this position in June 2019, the global pandemic has changed a lot about the world of healthcare and eldercare. It was up to Kevin to make sure Elder HQ was up to the task of handling it.To Kevin, finance is at the heart of a well-running business with a strong value system. Especially in rocky times, where the future of the eldercare industry — not to mention the worldwide economy as a whole — is in flux, a company with a finance team that's ready to take the lead is going to have a better shot at success. On this episode of The CFO Playbook, Kevin talks about the importance of a knowledgeable CFO, how to make financial technology systems work for you so you can leave the menial tasks to the automation systems, and the importance of agility when working in an industry that's as mercurial as the healthcare system is right now.Connect with Kevin on LinkedIn.Connect with our host Ross on LinkedIn.If you want a better way to track and control your team's spend, checkout Soldo.com.

Bloomberg's involvement as a financial information leader with the OpenAPI Initiative and the open source community is built on wider aspirations than it is about choosing the right tools to grow its business. The stakes are especially high in these turbulent times as the ravages of COVID-19 continue to take its toll, already wiping out large swaths of the economy . In this The New Stack Makers podcast, we speak with two open source leaders from Bloomberg: Richard Norton, head of the data license engineering group. Kevin Fleming, head of open source community engagement and member of Bloomber's CTO office. Bloomberg's collaboration and backing of OpenAPI as well, its involvement with open source and what this means for the financial sector are discussed. From the outset, APIs are seen as a core underpinning of what Bloomberg offers with, of course, its famous Bloomberg terminals. The data and analytics Bloomberg provides its financial institution and other customers — which might include data feeds for futures or commodities — allows for key decisions to be made, often affecting world capital markets.
