La première est que la société a conçu le Kindle pour s'interfacer de manière transparente avec la boutique en ligne d'Amazon. La deuxième est que le succès initial rencontré par le fondateur d'Amazon Jeff Bezos repose sur sa maitrise du marché du livre.
