Our eyes often deceive us. We tend to confuse what we think about a person or a situation with all there is to them. But much of what we've come to believe is simply a reflection of our own internalized expectations or fears. Our projections distort their truth, and say more about us than about them. What does it take to slow down and see below the surface of life to what's actually there? And what's on the other side of what we resist? In this third episode of our "Welcome Your Life" series, we visit with Bernie Dickson, a photographer and mother of two special needs boys. Her profession requires her to see the world a bit differently than most of us. Hear the story about how photography and acceptance of her kids came together one beautiful night. And how a community came around to support her. See photos from the Acceptance Exhibit here.Act 1 | Photography (0:00-18:00) - Bernie talks about her approach to using the camera to capture a moment.Act 2 | Resistance (18:00-32:00) - In the wilderness of confusion, Bernie encounters a truth that changes her perspective on life.Act 3 | Acceptance (32:00-52:30) - A community comes around Bernie to create an unforgettable evening. It's been a while since we did a "counter programming" episode, covering the three movies released this weekend outside of theaters. We opened the show with a topical discussion about Lightyear's weak box office weekend and the overall direction of streaming releases as alternatives to theatrical event movies. Then we slide into our discussion of Spiderhead, a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller, which is now streaming on Netflix. After that, we head over to Apple TV+ for our full review of Cha Cha Real Smooth, which stars Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson. And we finish things out with Good Luck to You Leo Grande, which is now on Hulu and stars Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack. Welcome to the annual X-mas Dance Mix for 2019! I spent the better part of Thanksgiving working on this set because dinner wasn't served until 7pm. I had been busy scrounging my DJ service and various SoundCloud accounts to create this year's offering of holiday dance music favorites and really think I hit this one out of the park. I went back this morning to ensure the integrity of the set and made some minor changes that only I would notice. If I'm happy — then I know y'all will be. I've got all your favorite tracks that have appeared on various iterations of X-mas Dance over the years and scooped several new entries. I also added a few that only appeared once over the years. I also want to give a HUGE shout out to our good friends from Mark D and JD Arnold a.k.a. Dirty Disco for sending me an advance copy of their this year's entry into the holiday dance music landscape, "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" by the fabulous Debby Holiday. I've been begging them to update the Weather Girls classic "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas," but they completely forgot. Mark is all on board and promised to deliver their version next year. In the interim, I came across this fantastic version by Raquela in my DJ service and ran with it. The vocals are spot on and her version delivers a circuit-friendly re-work that stays true to the original, even if it could use a bit more energy. Overall, I think this year's X-mas Dance is the best one I've put together to date. From the serious and the solemn to the camp (without being too over the top) — this delivers the cheer to brighten up your holidays. I've got the rest of December all mapped out and may even try to squeeze in the final Ultimate 80's Dance Mix this next week. Expect a head-spinning succession of new releases (including the highly anticipated Year In Dance and Blow Your Own Horn) by the end of the month. I want to give a HUGE shout out to our good friend Glenn A. from the UK for his kind donation. They are always welcome as I'm not exactly getting rich from the subscription service. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: X-mas Dance Mix 2019 Genre: Dance, House, Funky Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:28:51 1. Wham! - Last Christmas (Synthmix 2011 PWL Style Mix) 2. Here it is, my LAST Podcast for 2018, This particular Poddy has some great new tunes, classic tunes and "Rejigs" that has made my year and will make it even bigger. "Rejig" implies adding to a track or remix that I felt needed extra or given a full vocal treatment, I have added two particular rejigs, the first one is me giving Fonzerelli's "Angel" bootleg a full Vox treatment by adding the full Madonna "Angel" vocal into it, the second is an Exclusive from me with using Matt Pop's "Fernando" version and adding Cher's version of "Fernando". Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the mixes I have added including Rip City, Kue, Until Dawn, Stormy, 7th Heaven, Division 4 & Matt Consola, Club Junkies, Danny Verde, Toy Armada and DJ Grind, Joe Gauthreaux & Leanh, Guy Scheiman and classic remixes by Wideboys and Lenny B.
Oh, the irony! We've been looking forward to the December issue all year, and then when it arrives (super-late, for Rob) we get...more pink. Can we please declare a new It color for 2019? J. and Rob unwrap a holiday surprise when Santa reveals the hottest seasonal decorating trend: not using red and green. Stuff your stockings with thumbprint cookies, pom-poms, pom-ginger cocktails, water bottles (sooo romantic!) and clothespin dolls--if you're lucky to get them at the craft swap party. J. shares another childhood trauma (it involves glitter) and Rob gets a little tearful (with laughter). Yet in the end, the guys make peace with this season of giving--10,000 spoons and butt butter for everyone! Look for this month's recipe tastings on YouTube! Signature cocktail: Pom-Ginger Shandy. Recipe tasting prep and end credits: Tim Lawton. Theme music: Bensound.com. End credits music by Lenny B and Madison Park. Visit us at www.couldbebetterpodcast.com and on Facebook and Instagram. As Party Favorz winds down our 10th year, I found myself with some extra time and decided to pull together that one killer holiday dance set that I felt I had not yet achieved. X-mas Dance Mix 2K17 achieves that goal and more. Pulling together my favorite seasonal dance classics like Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas," Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas," Christine Aguilera's "The Christmas Song," and Kristine W's "Oh Holy Night" while adding a couple of new mixes like Dirty Disco & Jeanie Tracy's "Santa Baby," and George Michael's (a.k.a. Wham!) "Last Christmas" coupled with smooth transitions that are really hard to achieve on a mix of songs like these, you have the makings of the ULTIMATE holiday dance mix or one that I can finally say...YES! instead of "this will suffice." Since the holidays are always pretty rough for me as I put on a happy face and with all the crap being perpetrated on the world by our own demented, narcissistic and much-loathed president maybe, just maybe this can pull you out of the doldrums. If so, then I've done my small part in making the world a better place. ENJOY! Album: X-mas Dance Mix 2K17Genre: Dance, House, FunkyYear: 2017Total Time: 02:02:30 1. On Friday 22 March 2013 Larry took to the stage at The UN General Assembly in NYC with Steel Pulse as part of the UNESCO's International Slavery
HO HO HO!!! I swear on mother's grave, I didn't realize I had enough songs to put this thing together. When the new Kelly Clarkson “Wrapped In Red” remix rolled in, I added it to a folder called “Christmas Dance Unreleased” that contains holiday dance songs I was saving up for later. I've been putting stuff in there since 2010 when I first created the original X-mas Dance Mix. Low and behold, it was looking pretty stealth, so I dropped all the songs into my mixer and I'll be damned if this thing didn't come together in 30 minutes! Being a staunch supporter of Holiday Music in general, I felt it was my duty to give you folks something new to bounce around to for your holiday cheer. I am in such a giving mood, I've uploaded this in its full hi-quality 320 INSANE bitrate and made it available for free to everyone! So put on your Santa hat and drop this puppy into your phone and hit PLAY! HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND AND AS ALWAYS …ENJOY! BTW, my mom's still alive [grin]. LOVE YA MOM! This edition of Global Dance is a gentler mix aimed at before or after a night out. The set has a nice blend of down tempo house tracks but still retains the vocal energy to keep you moving. Kicking off with a great Lenny B mix of "World" by Gia & followed by a classic mix of Lisa Stansfield's "All Around The World". Peyton delivers a smooth version of "High" & Chris Willes samples Cher's "Believe" in Crazibiza's "Lonely One". Moving into some great new tracks by Shelter & the First Ladies Of Disco as well as Calvin Harris' "Pray To God" ft. Haim, & finishing up with the Wayne G. mix of "Problem" by Ariana Grande. You should be well & truly recovered. Enjoy Anthony 1/ "WORLD" (Lenny B. Filter Factory Club Mix) - GIA 2/ "ALL AROUND THE WORLD" (Norty Cotto Vocal Club Mix) - LISA STANSFIELD 3/ "HIGH" (Eric Kupper & Richie Jones Anthem Club Mix) - WAYNE G. ft.PEYTON 4/ "LONELY ONE" (Original Club Mix) - CRAZIBIZA ft. CHRIS WILLES 5/ "MAKE ME FEEL BETTER" (Don Diablo & CID Remix) - ALEX ADAIR 6/ "HOLD ME UP" (Steve Smart Remix) - CONRAD SEWELL 7/ "WITH U" (Dave Aude` Remix) - SHELTER ft. FRANK MUSIC 8/ "GO ALL NIGHT" (Freemasons Club Mix) - GORGON CITY ft. JENNIFER HUDSON 9/ "SHOW SOME LOVE" (KC Anderson Summer Love Remix) - FIRST LADIES OF DISCO 10/ "GHOST" (Dave Aude` Club Mix) - ELLA HENDERSON 11/ "PRAY TO GOD" (Calvin Harris & Mike Pickering Hacienda Remix) - CALVIN HARRIS ft. HAIM 12/ "ROOFTOP" (Simone Bresciani Club Mix) - SKYLAR STECKER 13/ "PROBLEM" (Wayne G. Throwback Anthem Club Mix) - ARIANA GRANDE ft. IGGY AZALEA
It's time to kick things into gear with the first EDM post of 2015. Party Favorz is back in the driver's seat and gearing up for what's bound to be an exciting year in dance music. The 2K15 Winter EDM Sessions starts off with the electro-power-pop hit "World" by Gia currently riding up the club charts. This is shaping up to be Gia's first number one on the charts likely propelled by a bucketload of remixes by Dave Aude, Funk Generation, Lenny B, StoneBridge, Eric Morillo, Mike Cruz, DJ Ranny, Dirty Pop and several more. This quickly leads to newcomer JimiJames "Drop Dat Bitch." The Dirty Pop remix hits hard on this WOW Jones produced track. Look for it to be lighting up floors at 1 am around the globe. We keep up the peak hour with Gwen Stefani's latest "Spark the Fire" and then begin descending into some AWESOME house, which bounces back and forth between current electro-p0p faves. Special attention should be given to two Terri B tracks. First is the current number one club hit in the country "Big Fun." This D.O.N.S. produced track was originally released in 2007 on Hed Kandi records but has been re-packaged with new mixes. Big Fun is a remake of the Inner City classic from 1989 and holds a very special place in my heart landing in my Top 10 all-time house favorites. It takes some big shoes to fill the space with a remake, but Terri delivers the goods. The second track featuring Terri's vocals and currently moving up the club charts (possible second #1 in a year?) is the Cazzette produced "Blind Heart." The original is a heavenly slice of deep house tracking a new direction for the Swedish duo. Terri's vocals add a soulfulness, which sets it way apart from the standard white-girl-with-a-thin-vocal-range currently berating the EDM scene. 2015 is shaping up to be a BIG year for this veteran chanteuse. 3LAU & Nom De Strip with Estelle doing vocal duties drop a remake of the 1995 Eurodance classic "Rhythm of the Night," simply titled "The Night." Over the years, there have been a plethora of remixes and covers of this song but these folks hit it out of the park! Finally, the UK's Ella Henderson single "Yours" closes out the set. She hasn't completely taken off in the states yet, but "Ghost" (original or remixed) was an excellent debut and Yours further solidifies her potential for mass stardom. Instead of attempting a big room electrifier, the Wideboys fallback on a more familiar housed-up remix and deliver some soothing ear-candy, while allowing Ella's vocals to shine. That's about all I got for your weekend. Hoping everyone's year has gotten off to a good start. Have a great weekend and as always ...ENJOY! Are you ready to get your disco on? I said, are you ready to get your DISCO ON??? Because if not, then this mix isn't for you. Just in time for your Memorial Day weekend mischief, I'm delivering two heaping servings of some of the freshest, phattest and funkiest slices of heaven this side of the galaxy or more like intergalactic space funk that's so fierce, even your mom will have to wiggle it, just a little bit! Starting things off, Joe T. Vannelli delivers an updated version of the classic "Doctor Love" originally performed by First Choice. For all purposes, this version is titled "Doctor House" and definitely sets the mood for the rest of the mix. This, of course, is followed by Lonnie Gordon's 1991 classic "I'm Gonna Catch You" and with 7th Heaven at the helm, you can't go wrong. We also have Ricki Lee's latest "Wiggle It" which basically turns the table on the 90's house classic originally performed by 2 in a Room. Other notable ditties worth mentioning are Lenny B's latest "Turn Up the Radio" which is a discofied version of the Sylvane mix, which recently appeared on my latest BPM edition and Sabrina Johnston taking an old church hymn "Peace in the Valley" and turning it into a disco floor stomper. Two other songs you should keep an eye on, only because you'll be hearing them a lot this summer are Kurd Maverick and Sam Obernik's "Love Emergency" and the Pussycat Dolls "Hush Hush". With the chorus "If you should fall, fall for me.Stick around I'm what you need.I'm not asking for eternity. It's just a little love emergency" "Love Emergency" is a surefire winner! Woo daddy.it's getting HOT in h-e-r-e! I guarantee you, the boys will be clamoring for this one. Now you may be asking yourselves.Pussycat Dolls? Followed by your second question, Dave Aude? I can hear it now . . . WTF??? Let me tell ya, the Dolls and Dave combo is a winner! I think this is the first time Dave has shown us his funkier side and the Dolls really deliver the goods. "Hush Hush" is a song about the dissolution of a relationship where the protagonist finally declares about 2/3 of the way in that she's broken.then the song just drops and those oh so familiar words are uttered."At first, I was afraid, I was petrified." Now, if you don't know those lyrics by now, we may have to strip you of your gay card and send you back to gay 101 for a refresher. Yes, they manage to work in the classic Gloria Gaynor disco anthem "I Will Survive" and never once does it sound cheesy. Folks, this is gonna be big, mark-my-word. There are four volumes to this set, which will be released each day until Friday. I broke it up between funky and soulful. I wanted to get the funky mixes out first for those of you taking an extended holiday so you had your soundtrack ready to go by the time you're out the door on Friday. The soulful mixes will come out Thursday and Friday, just in time for any weekend bar-b-cues or parties you may have planned. I've finished all four mixes and have to say they are smokin'! Then again, I'm partial to house in it's purest form and think everyone pretty much knows that by now. Anywho, I've gotta get out and enjoy this fabulous fall weather we've been having! You heard right, it's been pretty cool at night and in the mornings, but the sunshine and cool breeze during the day are alright with me. I'll be back tomorrow with the next installment. Until then, enjoy! Album : T-Dance Edition v3 Genre : Dance, Disco, Funky, House Year : 2009 Total Time : 1:19:12:00 Track : 1 Title : Doctor Love (Doctor House Remix) Artist : Joe T Vannelli feat. I am officially declaring summer! I'm sorry, but I can't wait and the music contained in this four-volume set and the subsequent T-Dance series that will be coming out next week will be a testament to that fact. So it is written, then it must be true. After pouring through hundreds of promos, I somehow managed to cut it down to four volumes each containing fourteen of my picks for some of the hottest tunes coming to a dance floor or radio sometime soon. Granted, this is all subjective and sometimes I am wrong; but I can assure you my overall track record is generally pretty darn good. That being said, here are my picks to click: First we get not one but two brand new tracks featuring the very talented Simone Denny. We start off with the blazing electro of "Luv Sick" a collaboration with Jean Maxwell and later what is sure to be the anthem of the summer "Your Love" with Max Vangeli and Digital Lab. Keeping up with the harder electro squeeze, we get "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by Sweet Mercy featuring Veba. This is a big room electro track with powerful vocals that will have you grooving from the first note. Out of all the promos I went through, there was no shortage of 80s remakes and this one by the S.O.S. band in 1980 is a surefire winner that didn't try to copy the original. I have to say that the overall majority were just plain donkey doo. Among that list were "She Drives Me Crazy"," "Billie Jean" and the most atrocious of them all "Eye in the Sky" originally performed by the Alan Parsons Project. As Moon Zappa once said, "Gag me with a spoon." Next on the list is "Love Sex Magic" by Ciara and Justin Timberlake which is already blowing up everywhere. Take special note that I went with the unreleased Alexander and Mark VDH mix which is just awesome. Though not their typical mixing style, it further proves their flexibility and someone you need to watch in 2009. Other favorites include the 2009 update of the classic "Summerfish" by Leonid Rudenko and Daniella, Studio Apartment's "I Want U 2 Move", Lenny B and NJ's "Turn Up the Radio" and "Wud If I Cud" by Anthony Wright. One other thing of note: I've decided to remove the rating system from each song. If I talk about the song, you can guess this is a 4 or 5-star mix and if I don't it's at least 3-1/2 which is still very good and certainly noteworthy. I've also got a lot planned for the remainder of May, so stay tuned. I'll be back tomorrow with volume two. Until then, sit back, relax because summer has arrived. Enjoy!
