MotoGP title rivals Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia treated us to some of the most extraordinary wheel to wheel racing of the 2024 season in the Malaysian Grand Prix, but even Bagnaia coming out on top didn't change the fact that it's Martin who is now on the cusp of being champion. The rivals' approaches to this enthralling GP opening laps at Sepang and the Bagnaia sprint error that maybe rendered them irrelevant in the big picture are delved into by Simon Patterson, Val Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer in the Malaysia episode of The Race MotoGP Podcast, with plenty of questions from The Race Members' Club about what was going through Bagnaia and Martin's minds. The whole weekend took place under the shadow of the tragic events in Valencia, home to many in the MotoGP world and where the series should have been heading for its finale in a fortnight. As Simon recounts, the floods and destruction in Spain made for a sombre atmosphere in the Sepang paddock - click here to donate to Valencian team Aspar's fundraiser for the relief effort.Want more MotoGP podcast content? The title race for MotoGP is heading down the stretch and it was time for the final flyaway round of the Gauntlet as Sepang welcomed the sport back for the first time in three years. And with it, the trilogy fight with Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini came to pass. Another intense fight for the win with Bagnaia coming out on top to take an absolutely critical win. His first in 5 races and giving him an almost certain Championship win, 23 points in front of Fabio Quartararo with only 5 left. We talk Fabio's 3rd, and that fight over the course of the show! We also had to talk about Ai Ogura in Moto2, who had one hand on the title following Tony Arbolino in 2nd, but went for the glory pass for the win and crashed out. Cam absolutely goes in on the young Japanese rider! All that and more (with Ryan King), on Motorsport101!

Is Formula 1 going too artificial by thinking of introducing ceramic microphones to enhance the sounds of the F1 engines? Or is it an acceptable solution from a sports broadcast point of view? Unlike the DRS, this is one solution that we don't mind supporting the sport for. In this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we wonder if the race organisers of the Malaysian Grand Prix blurted out the absolute truth about the sport, while also claiming that they wouldn't play host to Formula 1 even if it was offered for free! Ouch! We discuss Paul Hembrey's idea of introducing 'mini cups' along side the World Championship to make the longer seasons more interesting and Graham Keilloh's novel idea of crowning the driver with the maximum race laps led as that season's Drivers' Champion. And then of course, we have our usual Mclaren-Honda section, along with a much-needed one for Daniel Ricciardo. As we look forward to Suzuka, let's hope Ferrari's engines don't hit Honda mode yet again. Nico Rosberg is lucky that Mercedes built him a tank that went through the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix undamaged. Rosberg was lucky on multiple other counts too, including that he had a clean getaway (the Mercedes cars can’t take that for granted anymore) and the two VSC periods that helped him climb back up the order. Daniel Ricciardo had a great result to win the race. Will drivers not want to be on the podium with Ricciardo though, given his love for the ‘shoey’ (gross!)? Mark Webber was smart, he threw away Ricciardo’s shoe – the other podium victims need to learn from him. Given how much the FIA loves clamping down on everything that’s fun in F1, maybe they will ban the shoey on the podium too? A BIG thank you to Red Bull Racing for allowing Ricciardo and Verstappen to race fair and square. Ricciardo managed to do what not a lot of drivers have done this season – he kept Verstappen behind on-track (he claims to have learnt this from Verstappen himself!) Lewis Hamilton made the race interesting – not sure if it was thanks to his engine failure, post-race comments (or both!). Hamilton believes that ‘something or someone doesn’t want him to win this year’ – and he’s right. We tell you who this person in the Mercedes garage is, who has been mercilessly trying to keep Hamilton from winning. Nico Rosberg’s penalty was strange. It seems that the FIA does not want drivers to overtake on track at all! Rosberg has notched up so many penalties this season that he’s halfway to a race ban. Clearly, 'someone or something' is conspiring against him to get him so many penalties! Hamilton’s bad luck was Mercedes’ bad luck – they lost their second attempt at equaling the record for the most consecutive wins in Formula 1. Speaking of records, Jenson Button notched up 300 Grand Prix starts – and McLaren celebrated this by turning their paddock into an English pub (luckily no shoeys on offer there). Ferrari’s race was like how their whole season has been – all talk. Surprisingly, Raikkonen is outperforming Vettel. Perhaps Vettel go the Alonso way if Ferrari are unable to deliver a winning package in 2017! Is McLaren now part of the midfield teams with Williams and Force India? If so, they’re still at the bottom of that mid field. BMW recently announced their motorsport program and it doesn’t feature F1, but does include Formula E and the WEC. We guess they’ve been listening to Fernando Alonso’s criticism of the sport and decided to stay out! Here’s the big question: Can Hamilton still win the World Drivers' Championship? Of course! 5 races, 125 points to go. Let's hope a clutch, an engine or swapping of teams doesn't decide this year's champion. Suzuka is up this weekend, and it promises to be a real cracker. Will it be a Mercedes 1-2 again, or can Red Bull Racing challenge them? Tune in! (Season 2016, Episode 32) The Inside Line F1 Podcast is hosted by Mithila Mehta and Kunal Shah. Welcome back to Motorsport 101, dear listeners! In this absolutely stacked episode, me and the returning Ryan King (See what I did there?), we take a look back at the insane Triple Header of Motorsport we had at the weekend. First up, the Malaysian Grand Prix in Formula 1, Sebastian Vettel’s 40th win and his first for Ferrari, we’ll be looking at how Mercedes got it wrong, Kimi Raikkonen’s comeback, Williams mediocrity, Force India’s scalps, McLaren and Manor at the back, as well as the Toro Rosso’s beating the factory Red Bull team, and Max Verstappen becoming F1’s youngest ever scorer. Then, MotoGP in Qatar, and Valentino Rossi’s continued GOD-like tendency of winning at the tender age of 36. Also, the resurgence of the Ducati’s as they scored their first double podium in nearly 5 years, Andrea Dovizioso pushing Rossi to the limits, and Iannone’s first podium. Also, Lorenzo’s collapsing helmet, Marquez’s mistake, and why Dani Pedrosa’s career hangs in the balance due to his arm pump problem. I also lost my IndyCar virginity! We’ll be talking about the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, all the broken endplates and why a fan had to be hospitalized for one, and Penske curb-stomping the opposition as the super-team of four finished 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th, Montoya taking his 17th IndyCar win. And finally, a look at Bernie’s comments regarding a female F1 series and why it causes more problems than it solves, and why we should really stop looking at Susie Wolff like she’s the gospel leader of women in Motorsport like many see her as, and realize she’s actually being very shrewd. So, I really hope you enjoy what I think is, is our best and most robust Podcast to date. Enjoy!

If you are reading this then you are most likely to be a high-achiever or on the road to becoming one. You see, only 10% of people read or listen to material with the sole intent of self-improvement. You probably read productivity blogs, business magazines or listen to industry leaders, in your particular employment sector, talking about the future so that you can stay one step ahead of your competition. Whatever you are doing, you are doing it because you want to be more informed and, in doing so, become more productive. As you’ve most probably noticed, the top high-achievers seem to be calm, confident and, above all, incredibly productive. The amount they write, talk and accomplish is phenomenal. They seem to be able to do it all - they have truly mastered the art of multitasking. How can you be as awesome at multitasking as them, for surely here lies the holy grail of productivity? Or does it? Formula 1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, does not multitask. At this year’s Malaysian Grand Prix, on Lap 41, Lewis was in second place and struggling with the team’s current tyre choice and pit stop strategy. He’d recently used the radio to complain about the tyres when suddenly his team accidentally broadcast a message from Mercedes technical director, Paddy Lowe. Hamilton responded: “I can hear you. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. Paddy says I might be doing another stop!”There was confusion in the cockpit. But Lewis kept on pushing - he had only 14 laps in which to catch the race leader and he was only 14 seconds behind. He was focused. And then, another radio call came through. It said that if Hamilton kept pushing he could catch Vettel with 5 laps remaining. But that one radio call almost ended the race for Hamilton. He was entering a corner when the radio call came and his attention was momentarily diverted - he struggled to keep the car on the racetrack.‘Don’t talk to me through the corners! I nearly just went off!’ he responded to his race engineer.Yes, real world champions - they don’t multitask. Those at the top, the high-achievers we all aspire to be, they do one thing at a time and they do it very well. You see multitasking actually does two things to your brain; it makes you less productive and it reduces your Emotional Intelligence (EI).Stanford University professor Clifford Nass, who studied the social and psychological impacts of media, says that multitasking and the swapping back and forth between different types of interactive media makes us less not more efficient."The research is almost unanimous, which is very rare in social science, and it says that people who chronically multitask show an enormous range of deficits, they're basically terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks." says Nass.He says that not only are those who multitask less productive than those who focus on one task at a time but they tend to be socially and emotionally immature and find it hard to read people in social situations. They also prefer to hide behind a text or email rather than call someone. When was the last time you called someone instead of sending them a text?Multitasking lowers your performance because your brain can only focus on one thing at a time, your brain works sequentially, so when you attempt to do two things at once you perform badly at both.Let’s look at some everyday examples.Watching TV whilst eating and using your phone or tablet to look something up on the internet.Writing an email whilst in a business meeting.Texting whilst driving.Working out whilst listening to music and reading a book.Cooking, talking on the phone, texting, watching YouTube and uploading photos of the awesome meal you’ve just made. When was the last time you were driving and turned the radio off so you could concentrate? A common example is when you are driving in a busy city and looking for a parking space.Pilots don’t multitask either - it might look like they do, but they are just prioritising a task list.  Pilots have a process that organises the most important functions above the less important ones and they call this mantra - 'Aviate, Navigate, Communicate'. At a recent presentation I gave, to business leaders in the health industry, I told them that they need to look at what their core daily task was and priortise their focus in that area. If they strayed off their primary task and start doing other things then they must come back to it, periodically. In flying that primary task is to ‘Aviate’ - ie. fly the aircraft.Take instrument flying for example - when in cloud, you have to prioritise the main instrument that shows your aircraft’s attitude over all other activities. If you look away from it for a second, to change a radio frequency, check the fuel or look up details of the approach you’re about to fly you must always come back to the primary instrument else the aircraft’s attitude can change, resulting in unintentional height, heading or speed changes. So, we are starting to see why focusing on one thing at a time is so important.Aircraft generally aren’t very good at flying themselves when in dynamic situations and that’s why we still have pilots - for the moment, anyway! If a pilot gets distracted, especially when in formation, at low-level or taking-off or landing then crashes can happen - distraction is a killer; we prioritise the flying of the aircraft over all other things. After ‘Aviate’ come ‘Navigate’ - knowing where you are and where you are going and lastly, ‘Communication’.The picture in this paragraph was taken on last Friday morning just after 0800 local. I had climbed to 9000 ft over Snowdownia National Park, Wales. I had a radio failure but it didn’t matter as I was in control of the aircraft and knew where I was. I can deal with the radio problem later. So, when Lewis almost left the racetrack in Malaysia he was focusing on one thing - driving fast and catching Vettel. When his team made the poorly timed radio call he was instantly forced to multitask and, as we’ve just seen, humans are exceptionally poor at this. So, the next time you find yourself trying to complete a multitude of activities just stop and think about focusing on doing one thing at a time.Only then will you be truly on the road to becoming that calm, confident and incredibly productive high-achiever that you aspire to be. The Inside Line F1 Podcast is produced by Rishi Kapoor and Kunal Shah (Image Courtesy: Red Bull Racing) The 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix provided all the excitement on and off track. My post ‘Emotions, Tensions And Vettel Score A Win’ saw debates and opinions fly all over on my Formula1 blog and on social media. While the initial comments were all in favour of Webber, the scales tilted Vettel and his ruthlessness as fans slept over the incident! Hopefully Webber did too…! Given the incidents and topics in Sepang over the Malaysian GP weekend, Rishi and I had to make an effort to keep this Formula1 podcast short and simple. When we saw the final length, I know we had succeeded in our efforts. Here’s what’s in store for you: - Multi 21, we try and dissect the term! Rishi gets innovative in his ways, again. - Webber vs Vettel, we give our view on the situation. We try and establish how both drivers saw the incident. And did this incident showcase an imbalance of power in Red Bull Racing? - Also, could Red Bull Racing have managed this better? And we mean like Brawn did at Mercedes? - On the Hamilton vs Rosberg incident, we offer our view too. Will Brawn take Rosberg’s side when it is time to? - Rishi’s question - ‘Why on earth did Perez pit on the penultimate lap’? And I try answer it! - What if Mclaren served Hamilton’s Mercedes? Who would FIA penalize and why? - Finally, Ferrari and Alonso’s first lap mistake. Argh! Who is to blame? - And Rishi believes that there was one driver who used Harry Potter’s ‘invisibility cloak’ in Sepang. Any guesses who it was? - We try and establish why Jules Bianchi and Marussia were probably the only happy team-driver pair to leave Sepang on Sunday night! Much like Narain and Karun, we too move away from Formula1 as we go talking about Narain’s switch to AutoGP and Karun’s decision to race in the FIA GT Series. Some interesting content for Indian Motorsport fans! And as Rishi asks, is controversy good for sport? Go hear what our view is…! Till then, make your predictions, earn your bucks (or lose them!) and sit back and enjoy the action as ALL of Formula1 tries to understand the Pirelli tyres! Returned, we have. Before, there wasn't F1, then suddenly, there was F1. Yes, we are indeed back! The return of the Formula 1 also brings with it the return of the F1InPubs events around the country, and the return of those have the unfortunate side effect of bringing with it the return of the F1InPubscast. Sorry about that everyone, can't be helped, but we'll get through it together! The first race always brings with it a special atmosphere taking place as it does in the early hours, dedicated fans give up precious hours of sleep to watch their favourite sport live and the result is a great atmosphere that makes for a great podcast. Those with a keen ear might be able to detect a slight difference between the pre-race predictions and the actual race result. But only if you listen very, very carefully. Thanks to all involved in the podcast and the F1InPubs events that it is based at. We'll return to the Apres Bar in Birmingham at 7:30am for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Please direct any feedback to @f1inpubscast for reading out on the podcast. If you'd like to join in the fun, log on to www.f1inpubs.co.uk to find out where in your area is showing the race.
