Guten Tag in Bilbos Butze.
Hark, Void! Middle-Earth's 007, Gamgee, Samwise Gamgee, saves the world from ring-obsessed Gollum while Frodo staggers into danger constantly. Literally, Elrond will only let Arwen marry Aragorn AFTER he's defeated ultimate evil in the world. Now THAT'S a father-in-law. ORCS HAVE NAMES TOO!! And feelings! No one hates orcs more than other orcs! Aragorn runs like a Muppet, Gandalf acts like a dad on a road trip, wraith tractor-beams, Jennifer Coolidge has thoughts on Minas Morgul, and Osgiliath is such a pleasant word to say. But really, this movie is about the Rohirrim and Theoden's epic speech. But also, they should just have armies of women to fight the Nazgûl. DEEEAAAAATTHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Cue tears)

Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss their collective choice of topic: Peter Jackson's version of The Return of the King. It's been twenty years since the conclusion of Jackson's three-film effort to adapt the entire Lord of the Rings was released, and it was easily the biggest profile release of the series, coming in with massive interest and attention, setting a variety of box office records in the process along with gaining widespread critical acclaim. It all resulted in a series of worldwide film awards and honors culminating with a famed clean sweep of Oscar wins including best picture, resulting in a tie with Titanic and Ben-Hur with eleven Oscars total but also the only one of those three films to literally win every category it was nominated for, a combined record that still stands. The film's general impact and that of the series as a whole is at this point undeniable, but how it holds up in a look back, caught somewhat between Fellowship's own unquestionable triumph and Two Towers's more stop-and-go successes, warrants its own discussion. What are the many changes made to the tangled relationship between Frodo, Sam and Gollum, and how does that play out as a result for both the film and the wider themes? How does the use of practical models and actual landscapes feed into the feeling of how the film both landed in the moment and held up upon later rewatching, even while it was also the biggest demonstration yet of the possibilities for CGI with massive military clashes and the like? Is it possible to actually lose count of just how many remarkable moments on a grand scale exist throughout the film, even as there are various “well, but…” caveats and questions to raise along the way? How has the whole series of film changed both the perceptions of Tolkien and the film industry in general? And how many endings are there, after all? (Surprise! It never ended, it's running somewhere in a theater right now, maybe.)Show Notes.Jared's doodle. And that's another epic trilogy down. But that's all they needed.Trilogy Tuesday! It was a crazy time and it was great. Here's a photo of the all-day pass given out, and here's an example of that film frame memento given out as well. The opening scene is really something, no lie. Friendly little worm there. The screenwriting guru Ned mentions is Robert McKee – per Brian Sibley's Peter Jackson biography, McKee had come to Wellington, New Zealand to give one of his lectures in 1988, and the New Zealand Film Commission invited Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and future contributing screenwriter for The Two Towers Stephen Sinclair to it and they all apparently took it very much to heart. So a long term impact but even so.The opening exchange between Sam, Frodo and Gollum. Really are some beautifully shot moments in this sequence.Oh did Christopher Lee have things to say in the run-up to the theatrical release. Our episode on the Rankin-Bass Return of the King. It is NOT very good.Yeah yeah the Arwen vision and Arwen dying and…well whatever. But boy that introduction to Minas Tirith. THAT'S how to make an entrance. And the beacons sequence, wow, still. Time zone issues aside. For examples of the Gondor theme earlier on in the series, skip ahead to about a minute into this clip.Ride the Empire Builder! If you like.Hurrah for John Noble (and hurrah for Fringe). Skip ahead three minutes for “The rule of Gondor is MINE!” moment, and the parting between Denethor and Faramir, phew.Minas Morgul, a triumph of John Howe design, glowing and clamped. (The skybeam is the skybeam but the sonic buildup rules.)The Holdo maneuver (it really was great, like the film itself)When Theoden and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, boy that'll ruin ya. That's two good actors very much in the moment. When Aragorn and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, it is very…shippy.“...and Rohan will answer!” Perfect.“The stars are veiled.” Are they, Legolas?Oh you know the Shelob scene. Great acting moments, wonderful moment for Gollum, but not over the cliff again…And yeah when Mount Doom completely explodes…Will they? Won't they?A great way to do individual bows via a movie.“You bow to NO one.” (Cue big emotions.)A wordless toast indeed. And a pumpkin. (And a case of the not gays.)The Grey Havens sends us off. It really is a great Turner-inspired scene.“Into the West” and the end credit portraits. Great job Annie.
The inimicable Mel K. is with me completing another "Home and Home" series of appearances. Mel,like her show on Rumble, is fearless and always a good time. In our last chat she let it slip to me that she spent 18 years in the belly of the beast, not Mordor on the Potomac, but in Minas Morgul on the Pacific, Hollywood. That, to me, screamed "Movie Podcast," and that's what's on tap for today. It may seem a little 'off-brand' but for us, nothing ever is. So, relax and enjoy a trip through the predictive programming wasteland that is Horrywood!

Author Ludwig Gartz explains how The High Finance is the control mechanism for our enslavement and how that is gradually coming to an end with the collapsing Deep State and people's breaking free of the mind-controlling mass media. He explains how the enslavement and road to freedom is laid out in symbolic form in the Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien. The High Finance (Sauron) rule this world through their control of money (One Ring), through the Deep State (King of the Ringwraiths), and by controlling our minds through the media (Minas Morgul). In the symbolism of the Orc War in Minas Morgul, all three of these are interwoven. The High Finance controls the BIS in Basel and the Central Banks, including the Chinese, Russian and American Federal Reserve Bank. They own the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Blackrock and Vanguard, and in this way is the majority owner of the largest corporations on earth. With their control of money, the High Finance dominates the corporations and the billionaires, and with money, Deep State and media, they also dominate the governments of this earth. The dialectic with which the High Finance rule the world consists of capitalism and communism. For the automatic redistribution brought about by capitalism, which gives rise to ever larger corporations, conglomerates, cartels and monopolies, they extol socialism and communism as the solution. For the enslavement brought about by a communist dictatorship, they extol capitalism as great freedom (liberalism, libertarianism). As long as the vast majority of people are inclined to one of these two sides (right or left), we cannot escape this dialectic prison. The Deep State are organized in two blocs pretending to the world that they are competing, while, in reality, the theatre thus staged is controlled by the High Finance. To ensure that people cannot escape the dialectic with which the High Finance rule, the Western bloc is set up so that the corporations and billionaires are more powerful than the governments (see the power of a Bill Gates, George Soros, Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk), and the Eastern bloc is set up so that the governments are more powerful than the billionaires/oligarchs, see especially China and Russia. However, it is the High Finance alone that determine whether the corporations/billionaires are more powerful than the government or the government is more powerful than the corporations/oligarchs. Without the High Finance in the background, the billionaires in the West would not be more powerful than the governments. And without the High Finance in the background, the governments in Russia and China would not be more powerful than the billionaires/oligarchs.Ringwraith Annihilation Book in English: Ringwraith Annihilation - https://neunheit.de/en/pages/ringwraith-annihilationWebsite (mostly in German): https://neunheit.de/en——- My book:I have written a book on health and well-being. Frodo and Sam have passed the Dead Marshes with the help of Sméagol, went to the Black Gate of Mordor and found it impassable, decided on an alternate route, and coincidentally ran into men of Gondor, the captain being Boromir's brother Faramir who succeeded in what Boromir failed. Thanks for sticking with us as today we tackle the final five chapters and finish The Two Towers in it's entirety by covering The Forbidden Pool through The Choices of Master Samwise. Keep up as we stay with Frodo & Sam as they receive the blessing of Faramir to leave the temporary safety of Ithilien with Sméagol and continue their journey, view the evil city of Minas Morgul where the King of the Wraiths resides with an army set for war, climb along the secret pass to a tunnel, fall into a trap, fight for their lives against an ancient evil, and Sam having to make seemingly impossible choices. With Chase & Josh providing the major takeaways from each chapter, notating key full circles and foreshadows, pointing out a potential plot hole, coming up with our own draft of who each of us would take in a Fellowship re-do of who goes on the journey from Rivendell, and debating some fun scenarios, don't miss out! "He spun round, and rushed wildly up the path, calling and calling his master's name. He was too late. So far Gollum's plot had succeeded."

After the sun sets on the Black Gate, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum set out and take the road south towards Minas Morgul. They soon find themselves in the “garden of Gondor”: Ithilien, a land of fragrant herbs and other exotic flora that even Sam does not have names for in the horticultural word-hoard of his mind. We let the sensory imagery wash over us as Tolkien mentions one new plant after another, many of which never appear anywhere else in the legendarium. But Gollum thinks something stinks, and it's not just the pits of Orc filth to be found along the road.

"The Age of Men is over. The Time of the Orc has come." So says Gothmog, the doughy-faced Lieutenant of Minas Morgul and regular Fox News pundit. And jeez, does he seem to be right, based on this section of the movie: cherry tomato junkie Denethor sends his only remaining son to certain death; a bunch of soldiers from Gondor get Nazgul-ed while others polish their fancy armor and pine for Rohan to save them. Meanwhile Gollum engineers a rift between Frodo and Sam. All while still wearing... that loincloth. That horrible goddamned loincloth.
Pippin and Gandalf spend a lot of time yakkin' on a balcony... Statler and Waldorf much? Frodo, Sam, and Gollum reach Minas Morgul, which actually used to be a nice place before the big box stores moved in. Beacons are lit, Orcs ride on boats, and we're introduced to the great and meaty-faced GOTHMOG!

Frodo and Sam make it past Minas Morgul, up the famous stairs, and have possibly the most memorable conversation in the whole series. Please enjoy and send to a friend. Thank you for listening!
We return with Kirsten to chat more about Return of the King. First up, we check on Kelcey’s dog bite (she’s doing okay)! Then that Fool of a Took! Pippin gets his hands on the Palantir, but maybe that was secretly a heroic thing after all because it sets the stage for the rest of the movie. We follow Pippin and Gandalf to Minas Tirith, where they meet Denethor and Faramir, and the wizard and our favorite Hobbit have a touching moment on the balcony. Plus FINALLY the timeline of the stories makes sense as it intercuts with Frodo and Sam arriving at Minas Morgul! Follow us on Instagram @HobbitsatHeartPodcast for more Lord of the Rings content and behind the scenes pictures and videos.
The Stairs of Cirith Ungol - Gollum urges Frodo and Sam on toward Cirith Ungol, and soon they can see Minas Morgul glowing with an eerie light. Frodo feels the Ring has become very heavy and it pulls on the chain around his neck. Suddenly, the gates of Minas Morgul open and out of them issues an army led by the leader of the Nazgûl, the same one who stabbed Frodo on Weathertop. Frodo feels pain in the old wound and has a strong desire to put on the Ring. By holding on to the phial given to him by Galadriel, he is able to resist this urge, and the army passes by without noticing them. Cirith Ungol, Gollum tells them, is made up of two stairways—one straight and steep, and one winding but less steep. They climb the steep stair, then rest for a moment before going on to the longer one. After a while, they take a break from walking to have some food. During this time, as the hobbits talk together, Gollum disappears. When he comes back, Sam and Frodo are sleeping, with Frodo resting on Sam. Gollum seems to recall, however distantly, what it was like to have friends or family, and he reaches out for Frodo's hand as if to hold it. But Sam, waking up suddenly, thinks Gollum is attempting to do harm, and speaks harshly to him. When Frodo wakes up, he tells Gollum he has now done what was agreed, and may go free. But Gollum wants to continue as their guide.
The Forbidden Pool - In the middle of the night, Faramir wakes Frodo up and takes him to look at a pool of water nearby. There seems to be some sort of creature catching fish in the pool. The creature is Gollum who followed them all this way, drawn by the Ring, unable to leave Frodo because of it. Faramir's Men are ready to shoot Gollum with arrows, but Frodo asks them not to, telling them the creature is his guide. With Frodo's help, they capture Gollum. Faramir questions Gollum about where he intends to lead Frodo and Sam. When he finds out that Gollum's planned path is a pass called Cirith Ungol, he is disturbed. He later tells Frodo that going to Cirith Ungol is a bad idea, because the pass has an evil reputation and will take them very close to the city of Minas Morgul, which used to be Minas Ithil—a city of Gondor. Now, however, it is the home of the Nazgûl. Frodo feels that because he can't abandon the quest, and this is the only option that has presented itself, he must try it.
