Hey listeners, get ready for an enlightening episode where I had an amazing conversation with Erin Nicole Porter, a powerhouse in personal growth and entrepreneurship. Nicole's journey from burnout to success resonated deeply with my own experiences, reminding me of the importance of inner work alongside external strategies. Her insights into nervous system regulation, trauma healing, and finding safety within ourselves were eye-opening. Erin Nicole's wisdom on embracing the ongoing journey of growth without fixating on outcomes hit home for me, offering transformative tools for both business and life. This episode truly felt like a personal journey of self-discovery, leaving me inspired to cultivate presence and resiliency in every moment. Erin Nicole Porter is a (Bestselling author, Podcast host +) Energetics of Business Coach for women entrepreneurs. Through somatic attachment repair, nervous system regulation, and energy work, Erin supports her clients on the deeper emotional work it takes to run a successful business. She is the founder of the Quantum Ripple Effect Coach Training Institute, author of Burnout to Breakthrough, and host of the Energetics of Business Podcast. Episode Highlights: Entrepreneurship is a journey that requires addressing not only business strategies but also the inner emotional aspects that impact success. Inner work involves untangling self-worth from business outcomes and understanding trauma responses that affect behavior. Conscious mindset work is valuable, but deeper inner work, addressing subconscious patterns and nervous system regulation, is crucial for sustainable growth. Internal safety and grounding practices can help entrepreneurs manage stress, uncertainty, and financial challenges effectively. The transition from high-stress states to present, regulated states can be achieved through intentional breathwork, grounding, and presence exercises. Quote from the Episode: "It's not fixing or healing to get something. While things land and opportunities come in, your intention shouldn't be driven by lack or unworthiness. Shift the focus and trust the journey." - Erin Nicole Porter About the guest: Erin Nicole Porter is a (Bestselling author, Podcast host +) Energetics of Business Coach for women entrepreneurs. Launched in 2023, the year-long public education campaign, #50YearsAndAWakeUp: Ending The Mass Incarceration Crisis In America includes a coalition of advocates, experts, and partners, such as, WE GOT US NOW, all working towards raising awareness about the dire state of the U.S. criminal legal system, the devastating impact of incarceration on communities and families, and proposes more effective crime prevention strategies for our country. The title for this campaign was born out of a colloquial phrase that incarcerated people sometimes use to describe the life of their sentence, plus one day (e.g. “I have 20 years and a wake up”). It also serves as a double-entendre, calling for our country to “wake up” to the harsh and dangerous realities of mass incarceration in America. The economic fortunes of rural communities across the United States are often deeply intertwined with the prison industrial complex. This poses a real challenge to the project of ending mass incarceration. How can organizers build political opposition to prisons in areas where prisons are the lifeblood of a community? And what should be done with former prisons once they are closed? The question of repurposing prisons in particular is too often neglected by state governments. A new report from the Sentencing Project finds that while 21 states have closed prisons since 2000, many of these sites have simply become other types of correctional facilities in the absence of clear transition plans. Today I'm sharing with you an episode that focuses on prison and sentencing reform that I co-hosted for the Justice Counts podcast with thriller author/attorney Mark M. Bello. Nicole D. Porter manages The Sentencing Project's state and local advocacy efforts on sentencing reform, voting rights, and confronting racial disparities in the criminal legal system.Named a “New Civil Rights Leader” by Essence Magazine for her work challenging mass incarceration, Porter joined the Sentencing Project in 2009 and her advocacy and findings have supported criminal legal reforms in such states as Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, California, Texas, and the District of Columbia.Porter's areas of expertise include research and grassroots support around challenging racial disparities, felony disenfranchisement, in addition to prison closures and prison reuse. She's authored articles on the collateral impacts of justice involvement on communities of color and how current social movements are challenging mass incarceration. The former director of the Texas ACLU's Prison & Jail Accountability Project, Porter graduated from Johns Hopkins University and holds a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. Some episode highlights:Porter calls for elimination of mandatory sentences for many crimes, including those involving drug offenses. She calls for reallocation of resources, including the closing of many prisons, with a focus on rehabilitation. She contends that many older inmates are no longer dangerous, and thus, should be released. She believes that because thousands of inmates that were subjected to mandatory sentences received unfairly harsh sentences, and because deplorable conditions in many prisons violate inmates' rights, that "reparations" are justified. Those payments would be used for community programs to prevent crime from occurring.Take a listen.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Thinking OTB | Thinking Outside the Box with Steve Valentine and Bernie Espinosa
This week on Thinking OTB we're bringing things a little closer to home to give you a little peek behind the Valentine Group curtain. Nicole Porter, one of our Rockstar agents is joining us on the podcast to talk about her life before joining up with Steve and how thinking outside the box and realizing her limitless potential has changed the way she views herself and her career as a real estate agent. The truth is her story before joining up with Steve is unfortunately not a unique one. It's been a hard couple of years for everyone. For some of us, it's been difficult to recover the flow we might have had professionally before, and it's been a game of catch-up ever since. Nicole found herself in that very same situation, having moved from Michigan to Arizona and working two jobs and trying to make her real estate career work for her. Sometimes the goals we set for ourselves take hard work and learning from what isn't working so that we can keep finding those solutions to keep your momentum going. “I think your story represents what a lot of people listening go through in that you haven't reached the end goal yet. Like maybe you know that you have this momentum and that you're growing, and it wasn't just success just falling out of the sky for you. You had perseverance, you had conviction, and you had a gut instinct of what you needed to do, and I think that that is super, super important.” – Bernie There are two great takeaways from Nicole's story. And no, one of them is not finding a way to work with Steve and Bernie, we could all only be so lucky! The first takeaway is that it's not always easy starting something new. Sometimes it can be the hardest thing you've ever done. It takes hard work and dedication to make those changes, and if the goal is true and right for you, the work is worth it. The second takeaway goes with the first, that if you're ready to work toward something you need to have the humility to know when you need help. “The bigger moment, though, was her mental shift of whatever it takes to put me in a place that I can succeed. How do I be around somebody that I can learn from?” – Steve Working in this industry as a real estate agent has great potential to help agents build wealth and strong professional roots so that they can help others achieve their legacy goals as well. It's not always easy, but if you keep working at it, if you keep growing and developing those outside the box ideas, it can take you places you never dreamed you would go. “It's about finding the right team in the right place and being willing to do the work. It's not always just about the split conversations and who's getting what. Everybody wants to know, well, what about all that? And I would tell them, look, I've sacrificed so much, and even with the sacrifice I made, I still made almost double my income from prior years.” – Nicole You can find Nicole at her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicoleporteraz/ Hey you! The current pandemic is creating a global scale traumatic event peppered with myriad micro traumas. It is impacting everyone in varying degrees. For those able to manage and integrate their emotional experiences, they may come out on the other end without any negative psychological effects from the experience. While others may surface experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. This may be especially true in areas of the country and world experiencing the highest number of illnesses and within the community of medical professionals on the front lines caring for them. Given the circumstances, Nicole Porter Davis and I thought it may be helpful to create this series on large scale trauma response. Today we talk about the role of Social Connection, for both client and therapist. We also discuss the role it plays in personal and professional emergency preparedness. This is going to be the last episode of the series for now. The next two topics seem more appropriate to discuss after we get through the current circumstances.
