Disclaimer – In this episode, we discuss disordered eating, and mental health struggles. In this episode of the MyoMinds Podcast, George speaks with Anne, a Registered Nutritional Therapist, lecturer, and supervisor. She has been practising for more than ten years and exclusively works in the field of disordered eating. Anne suffered with anorexia in her teens and now draws from her lived experience to blend her knowledge of nutrition with her CBT skills. She works with people all over Europe to help them achieve food freedom. She is also invested in helping other practitioners work with disordered eaters as she recognises that general nutritional advice can be extremely damaging to disordered eaters.Listen to the episode to hear us discuss:What led Anne to specialize in eating disorders and why she chose this field. The dogmatic thinking within the nutrition industry and why it's a problem. How to determine whether nutrition advice is something to follow or something to ignore.Devil's advocate: I worry the nutrition industry is like any other money-driven system—if leaning into dogma and making people feel bad about themselves increases sales, then it'll happen. Is there any point in us talking about it, if it probably won't change the company's minds? You can find Anne here:Instagram: @theeatingdisordernutritionistWebpage: https://www.theeatingdisordernutritionist.co.uk/ Please remember that no episode of the MyoMinds Podcast can be used as a replacement for medical advice and/or care.

Lissa Leader is a nutritional therapist, and has her own company – Nutrileader – and also works for Optibac, so is well placed to speak about the microbiome and healthy ageing. Lissa explains how the gut microbiome keeps changing from birth all the way through childhood and adulthood, and how this can affect a broad range of conditions, including: allergies, digestive health, bone and muscle strength, “inflammaging” and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. We also discuss the very different microbial balance in the urogenital tract, and their potential role in urinary tract infections, thrush and localised tissue health, particularly during menopause. Lissa then goes on to describe how best to support all of this is a clinical setting, including the pros and cons of a number of dietary factors, and how to choose the right probiotic supplement. “If we look at, say, the Lactobacillus rhamnosus strains, Lactobacillus rhamnosus have multiple strains, one of which is the GR-1 strain, and the GR-1 strain will adhere to cells in the urogenital tract, whereas the GG strain will actually adhere to cells in the gastrointestinal tract. So we can see that strains can exert completely different effects on the body because that's where they naturally like to gravitate to and and adhere to.”-This podcast is sponsored by OMED Health.OMED Health was established to help the 40% of the population that suffers from gut problems take control through the power of breath analysis. Throughout history, where there have been human beings, there has been fermentation. Human beings have a long-standing fascination with fermented foods, the question is: why? Fermented products are enjoying a huge boom at the moment, Kimchi, Kefir and Kombucha are all on the up. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The truly interesting fact is something like a third of all food consumed by humans is fermented. Fermentation is used in the making of pickles, olives, bread, beer, wine, chocolate, coffee, vinegar, soy sauce – the list goes on. And we have been doing it for thousands of years. So, in this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, we look at why humans ferment their food, find out about different fermentation methods, and ask what today's food innovators are taking from this vast, rich tradition. Guests: Simon Poffley, Founder, The Fermentarium Eve Kalinik, Registered Nutritional Therapist, Author and Podcaster

Hey there and welcome back to The Emotional Eating Therapist show. I'm glad you're here. This episode features my second sleep expert guest. You might be wondering why I brought on two gals who do similar work. Well, that's a good question. 1. We learn differently from different people. You may resonate with one person more than another and therefore learn more, even if the two people said the exact same thing. 2. I believe in tearing down the competition between women struggle. You'll hear more about this in my episode with my friend and colleague Vanessa which will air in Dec. Because we all have value to share and all have different personalities, there is no competition. Like I said before, you may hear many people say the same thing but it will resonate more when one person says it. 3. Repetition is great for learning. And when we hear multiple experts say something we are more likely to follow it.Let me introduce my guest for this episode. Krista Cumming is a Sleep Expert and Registered Nutritional Therapist who helps midlife women learn how to balance their hormones so they can fall asleep and stay asleep without medication and wake up energized and refreshed.A 30-year wellness industry veteran, Krista believes that sleep is the most important pillar of health. We spoke with Rewilding Guide and Registered Nutritional Therapist, Becs Steele, about her tumultuous experiences with pregnancy, due to a rare genetic disease, and how looking back she can see now that her expectations about what her life was supposed to be like were adding to her anxiety. This exacerbated her health issues. During the years of trying for a second child, Becs suffered from several health conditions including autoimmune thyroid, endometriosis, rosacea, and anxiety. She now pinpoints them as symptoms of the stress she was going through. Upon learning about the understanding behind the Rewilding metaphor, Becs saw that expectations about life are really just made up. And yet she recognizes that she and so many others can get so stuck on these expectations and obsess about reaching them. For Becs, reaching her goal meant enduring very traumatic pregnancies, which she does not regret at all as she now has two beautiful children. But reflecting on her experience, she can see now how she was not aware earlier that she was going to be OK regardless of outcomes. Becs also reflects with us about how stuck we get when we try to control our experience and our emotions. If we can soften around our feelings, and make space for them, they move through us more gracefully than when we attempt to stuff them down. This goes hand in hand with not beating ourselves up for not being "spiritual enough" or using spirituality as a measuring stick to beat ourselves up with. Instead, we can be with the full breadth of the human experience, and allow our grief to heal naturally.Show NotesTranslocation: a type of chromosomal abnormality in which a chromosome breaks and a portion of it attaches to a different chromosome. This can result in stillbirths or severe disabilities.Bird by Bird: a documentary about Anne Lamott where she beautifully describes how being open to grief doesn't mean we won't have a scar, but it will heal cleanly.Becs Steele helps people who experience anxiety or depression to have more personal freedom in body, mind, and spirit. As a registered Nutritional Therapist, she is constantly discovering the power of the mind and body connection. She brings clients to their present moment experience to uncover what is keeping them stuck. Using nutrition in combination with coaching she witnesses clients have big shifts in their bodies and minds.Angus Ross & Rohini Ross are “The Rewilders.” They love working with couples and helping them to reduce conflict and discord in their relationships. Welcome to State of Mind podcast hosted by Nutritional therapist, Grace Kingswell. Today I am discussing Fertility and pregnancy nutrition with Registered Nutritional Therapist, Cara Redpath. Before you begin listening I will say that if you're planning on trying to conceive then this is a truly useful episode, and that if you're pregnant then there's a lot of good info in here about supplements to take during pregnancy, diet, lifestyle and so on. Slight trigger warning however, we discuss a few topics that might be sensitive to some so please bear that in mind as you go. Cara and I discuss the concept of 12 months to make a baby, the importance of pre-conception care, foods to consume and foods to avoid if you're planning to get pregnant (and also whist pregnant), breastfeeding, the importance of thyroid health, gut health and the vaginal microbiome, and we discuss some studies that have seen probiotics hugely reduce risk of childhood allergies and so much more. There is SO much good info in this episode! Find Cara online @cara_redpath_nutrition @gracekingswell

This episode of The Happy Menopause is all about energy. Have you lost your Va Va Voom? Do you feel tired all the time? Do you blame your age for your lack of energy? If this sounds familiar, then it's definitely time to take action, because whether you're 29 or 69, it's far more likely that your diet and lifestyle are the main culprits and a few simple changes and new habits could make a world of difference to the way you feel, so that's what we'll be focusing on today. Registered Nutritional Therapist and The Happy Menopause host, Jackie Lynch is flying solo in this episode, because nutrition for energy is a specialist subject of hers. In fact she's written a whole book about it called Va Va Voom: The 10-Day Energy Diet. We're all feeling a bit weary from the impact of Covid, whether we had it or not. Our lives have changed a lot in the past year and dealing with all the associated issues around the pandemic have ground many of us down, so it wouldn't be surprising if you're feeling generally tired. And that's before we take into account all the hormonal havoc that comes with the perimenopause and menopause, because that also has a significant impact on physical and mental energy. So this episode takes a close look at energy for all you tired midlife women out there – how the body produces it, the different types, the role of different nutrients in the energy production process and Jackie's written some little quizzes to help you identify whether a deficiency might be playing a part in your symptoms. Tune in for her best energy nutrition tips to help you get your Va Va Voom back so that you feel like a whole new woman! Jackie Lynch is a Registered Nutritional Therapist and founder of the WellWellWell nutrition clinic where she specialises in women's health and the menopause. Keen to break the taboo about discussing the menopause, she launched the popular diet & lifestyle podcast The Happy Menopause and her new book, The Happy Menopause: Smart Nutrition to Help You Flourish is out now. If you've enjoyed this episode, please tell your friends and family, and leave a 5-star rating and a review on Apple Podcasts or whichever platform you listen on, as it really helps to spread the word, so that new listeners can find the show. Because every woman deserves to have a happy menopause.

Welcome to series 1: “Self care” was one of the most searched phrases on Google last year, along with “how to make a face mask” and “when are schools reopening?”I start the series with this fact-packed, myth-busting episode on nutrition, featuring our mysterious, yet vitally important microbiome, our hormones, our vagus nerve and the weird but inspiring science of FMT (Fecal Microbiota Transplantation) Karen Jones (www.karenjonesnutrition.com) and I delve into the links between our gut health and our brains and how our mood can be impacted by the foods we eat. If you meditate to lower stress — or as a respite for illness or as a means to balance your nervous system and improve immunity, consider how improving your nutritional health might compliment that. This is a must-listen for anyone interested in the mind-body connection. It's too easy to compartmentalise ourselves and forget how much the mind and the gut are connected. Karen takes a holistic approach to the microbiome as we discuss how everything we do — from sleeping, exercising, being outdoors and eating is interwoven. Listen out for Karen's 5 life hacks that you can do today to improve your gut (and brain!) health.LINKS:FMT (Fecal Microbiota Transplantation) - what is it? https://www.openbiome.org/about-fmtTaymount Clinic - https://taymount.comStudy - Ridaura et al 2013 Gut microbiota from twins discordant for obesity modulate metabolism in mice. From The Heart, a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, Healing and Wellbeing
Join us in conversation with Diana Herve, a Registered Nutritional Therapist (BSc(Hons), DTLLS, Dip.NCFED, Cert.EFT, mBANT), where we discuss eating to support your health, eating disorders, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Diana's passion for taking advantage of what's on your doorstep. Diana qualified as a Registered Nutritional Therapist 19 years ago, a career path she took after being a professional cook & caterer, for 22 years, and in that time she set up and ran a cookery school from home, whilst her 3 children were very young. She found it manic and incredibly stressful, trying to juggle a family and working long hours. And just like she sees in so many of my clients nowadays, the chronic stress eventually undermined her own health. She ate herself back to wellness, following the recommendations of a very forward-thinking doctor and became fascinated by how practicing functional medicine and nutritional rehabilitation was so effective in rebalancing the body's various Systems, to bring about good health and wellbeing. Diana now runs a private nutritional therapy practice (Diana Hervé Nutrition), addressing various health issues (gut/digestive, weight management, hormone imbalance/autoimmune, cholesterol, Eating Disorders/emotional eating). She holds a Diploma – Practitioner in Eating Disorders from the National Centre for Eating Disorders, (Accr. British Psychological Soc.), and a Diploma in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She works with people of all ages to help them overcome their emotional issues with food, body image and weight. During her career, Diana has been a lecturer in nutrition, health, psychology of health & health research in further education, (qualifying as a teacher in 2008), lecturing at SEEVIC & University of West London, where she is currently an Assessor in Clinical Nutrition. Diana also spent 3 years coaching/mentoring on an NHS programme for obesity and pre-diabetes. She finds it a privilege to share her knowledge and experience with her clients, whatever their health concerns, to help them to achieve their health goals. She always tries to practice what she preaches. A very brisk walk along the beach every morning sets her up for the day and makes her feel very positive. She loves yoga for relaxation and meditation too. Diana has always swum in the sea and this year has joined lots of other crazy but brilliant people, wild water swimming through the winter! Studies show it boosts the immune system and is great for mental health. As you can imagine, she loves food, cooking and cooking for family and friends, and believes the kindest thing we can do for ourselves, and others, is nourish ourselves well! Following on from last month's popular episode How Nutrition Can Help You Manage Your Menopause, I'm shining the spotlight on nutrition again for this World Menopause Day special as we look at the top 10 foods to support a healthy menopause. Get your notebooks ready so you can add them to your shopping list!My usual pattern for the podcast is to interview an expert on a menopause related subject, but I'm flying solo for today's episode, because it's all about nutrition, which is my own area of expertise. I'm a Registered Nutritional Therapist with a special interest in women's health and the menopause and my WellWellWell nutrition consultations are available online. We look at the best food sources of vitamin C and calcium, with some practical ideas of how to include them in your diet. It's October at last and my regular listeners will know that my new book The Happy Menopause: Smart Nutrition to Help You Flourish comes out this month. This book has been burning away inside me for a long time now, as there simply isn't enough information out there to support women during this hugely transitional phase of life. So I've drawn on my clinical expertise as a nutritional therapist and included all the information about diet and lifestyle that you could wish for to empower you to build you own menopause diet and specifically target the symptoms that are troubling you. It really is the one-stop solution for every woman juggling her menopause with the daily challenges of a busy life. This episode provides a sneak preview to some of the diet and lifestyle advice in the book and I've handed the reins of the podcast over to my colleague and friend Christien Bird of the excellent White Hart, because I'd like you to get the perspective of another health professional. Christien is a Chartered Women's Health Physiotherapist and features in Season 1, talking about bone health. She's a stickler for a proper evidence-based approach, so if she approves, then it's definitely a good sign. I know she'll take her usual forensic approach to questioning me, so that you can be sure to get an objective inside track on the book.We discuss my favourite nutritional strategy for managing menopause symptoms and take a deep dive into the range of different symptoms that can affect women and how the right diet can make a material difference to how you feel in your 40s, 50s and beyond. Find out why this is really not the time for a crash diet and why magnesium is every menopausal woman's best friend! If you've enjoyed this episode please leave a 5-star rating and a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts as it helps to spread the word, so that new listeners can find the show. Because every woman deserves to have a happy menopause.

This episode was recorded just before the Covid-19 lockdown began, as the pandemic was starting to become bigger news. We released the previous 2 episodes of the season before this one, even though it was recorded before, as they were recorded during lockdown and we wanted things to be very relevant for our listeners during life in the midst of this new normal. However, we are so excited about this episode as it really sums up one large facet of what Healthy Happy Home is all about – a root cause, individualised approach to healthcare, which of course can be applied to life during a pandemic to help our bodies cope but – and perhaps even more importantly – during regular life, as this is what an integrative approach to healthcare is; boosting immune system year round to ensure optimum health. We speak to Debbie Lewis, Lauren's personal functional medicine doctor, to get a deeper understanding of what a functional approach to healthcare really means, and how we can all incorporate the basics into our lives to be able to drastically improve health and reduce likelihood of chronic disease.
